The Westleton Crown
Head Chef, James Finch, and his highly skilled team pride themselves on their imaginative and varied menus which have earned us a 2 AA Rosette restaurant award, as well as a considerable reputation.
All of our meals are prepared on the premises, using the finest, freshest ingredients and local suppliers wherever possible. The same level of care goes into the preparation, whether it’s a hearty breakfast, a simple lunchtime snack, a relaxed meal with friends, indulgent dinner or traditional Sunday roast. Our breads are baked daily in the kitchen; the soups, pâtés and all of our delicious desserts are home-made – even the ice cream.
Our menus are perfectly complemented by an extensive and sophisticated wine list or maybe our selection of real ales.
We look forward to you dining with us soon.
Unfortunately our visit coincided with the corona virus restrictions and our stay was curtailed. We did have our meal as booked though. The staff dealt with the problem very pleasantly.
Just a bad night for the chef - unexpectedly busy - med rare steak came out well done and the tomato ( a mean half) came out raw along with a quarter of a mushroom and six cold chips. The two up front did an amazing job, I have been before and will go again.
The food was amazing I had the vegan roast which was one of the nicest wellingtons I’ve had
Great staff, nice food , would definitely come again.
Excellent staff. all very busy but always friendly, human and efficient.
Visited on Sunday evening. Very quiet on arrival. Staff friendly. Ordered roast beef and pork. Disappointed. Roast pots had obviously been around since lunch time.... rest of veg were flavourless. Ate in dining room at front of pub. Lacked atmosphere. Like eating in a church hall. Puddings were ok but not overwhelming. Having read previous reviews and visited partly on the strength of them we were left disappointed overall. Perhaps it was just because it was Sunday evening but that ought not to be the reason.
We dined at The Crown on Saturday night and had popped in for a drink earlier in the day. All the staff were lovely, particularly our waitress who I think was quite new and originated from the US. The food was too notch too, though we simply couldn’t fit in any puddings, settling for an apres food cocktail instead. The acoustics in the dining room were a little loud, it may have been a particular table quite near us who were slightly noisy, and oblivious to the fact that at least 2 parties asked to be moved elsewhere. But there was a real buzz about the place, and I am sure we will be back
Marvellous ambience, superb food and very helpful and friendly staff made my stay at the Westleton Crown a great experience.
Our Sunday lunch at The Westleton Crown was just the ticket after a cold walk around Dunwich Heath. We had the pate which was just lovely, along with the celeriac soup for starters. Mains were a tasty beef roast and a beetroot wellington. This is the second superb Sunday stop in as many months. Will return. The bar staff and the restaurant waiting staff were all top-notch and very welcoming. Highly recommend.
Waited quite awhile to place orders and reorder dessert.
Main meal very tasty and well presented. My husband had the veg meal and I pork.
We were very disappointed with the cheese board. The Brie was solid (reckon just came out of fridge). A restaurant of this reputation should know how to serve cheese! My 3 different ice creams were yok but all tasted the same. Complained about cheese which was taken of menu.
This being our first visit and celebrating a birthday. The staff were extremely helpful, efficient and polite. Food being excellent. A lovely experience and being able to take our little terrier made it so much friendlier. We are recommending to our friends. Thank you.
My husband and I had dinner and I am vegan. There was a fantastic choice of starters, main course and desert as they have a plant based menu. Both mine and my husbands food was excellent.
We have been going to The Westleton Crown for many years and my parents have been going there forever. The quality of the venue and the food and drink are always outstanding.
It was a celebratory birthday dinner. The staff were very welcoming and attentive. A nice touch that "happy birthday" was piped on the pudding plate. Would highly recommend the Crown to all friends and we return there on a regular basis.
A very good meal as always. Fine food, friendly helpful staff.
A very good place to cheer up a cold February weekend. The staff were very welcoming and the food was excellent. The evening meal and breakfast were cooked to order and to a high standard. The room we stayed in was very clean and modern. We would definitely return. We felt it was good value for money. No complaints at all.
Another Excellent meal at The Crown. Great Food and service. Having praised the establishment , there are a couple of points to raise. The special was the same both nights, so more like a menu extension than a special. The service charge was not mentioned.
Food overpriced and somewhat bland, especially the blackberry sorbet. However the rabbit starter was very good.
Waiting/bar staff in noisy conversation with customers sitting at bar. Had to seek out bar staff for service.
Nice and cosy feel to the bar although the outside door was constantly left open.
Had a very nice evening - very good food and lovely atmosphere in the restaurant. Have booked to go again soon.
Another lovely meal at The Westleton Crown. Good Menu and good sized portions. Food hot and well presented. Staff helpful and polite. All in all an excellent experience. My one issue is that there is now a 10% service charge on the Bill, this was not explained to us.
Very nice and helpful staff, but average , nothing special food,
Lovely old world charm...great food not too much on menu but it’s quality produce
Excellent friendly service in good surroundings food was excellent will definitely return for another visit
Very good dinner in the bar with my daughter and our dogs, one big and one small.
Nice friendly atmosphere in the bar/restaurant of this lovely old country inn.
Thoroughly recommended for a winter break in their feelgood bedrooms, which are all dog friendly.
Hearty cooked breakfast included sausages for the dogs
Will be going back soon
As usual, excellent staff service but, food emanating from kitchen needs vastly improving, after having experienced warm (as opposed to hot) and over-cooked ‘traditional’ Sunday lunch! Our cream tea comprised ‘warm’ tea, coupled with very ‘hard’ scones, followed by an exceptionally late serving of cream! Breakfast lacked variety of fresh fruit, with bread restricted to ‘white’ bread only; bacon and sausages over-cooked! All in all, very disappointing dining experience!
Excellent service and excellent place I love the relaxed feel of this place – like a comfortable dining room in a friends home. I definitely would return to try more dishes. The potato-leek soup was amazing and the Bibb lettuce salad was refreshing. The table was split on the monkfish – one person thought it was great, but another felt that the tastes didn't quite mesh. Service was well-timed and friendly, wines were affordable.
Food should have been hotter, just warm, over priced. Service was good
Great meal - lovely atmosphere. Definitely recommend this.
Generally very good. We had three courses and the only let down was a burger, which was dry, had no sauce or relish with it and was a little overdone. The starters, vegetarian main and puddings were excellent. Service was very friendly and helpful but the food was very slow to arrive between courses, the meal taking over two hours. Could have done with being a little quicker.
Great food as always. Wish there was somewhere you could eat where children are not allowed as there always seems to be unruly children, which spoils the ambience. There is a place where you can dine with your four legged friend, so why not make a place for children away from other diners? Otherwise a great place to eat!!!
Fantastic food as usual, but unfortunately on this occasion let down by the service. I think perhaps it was a changeover of personnel, or just the Christmas period taking its toll. Service was so slow we decided not to have dessert, and I just ordered a couple of quick espressi instead as I paid. However they also took forever and we even ended up leaving without having them. Shame. The man serving on the bar was excellent though.
We dined at the Westleton Crown on the 28th Dec and thoroughly our evening and food. The service was excellent and we were well looked after by our charming and attentive waitress, she ensured she checked in after each course was served.
All four meals of starters, mains and desserts were well cooked and presented, personally the chicken liver parfait with red onion marmalade was the stand out dish- simple yet perfectly executed, from the mains, the local reared pork chop with cider jus was equally outstanding.
We will return to the Westleton Crown and have no hesitations in recommending this great 2 AA rosette gastro pub.
We couldn’t have asked for a better experience. From coffee in front of the wood burner with a contented dog to lunch in the bar ( dog similarly happy!) we were made to feel welcome and nothing was too much trouble. The food was delicious and a decent quantity. All this on a busy Boxing Day. Congratulations Westleton Crown.
Great food and service in a lovely atmosphere
Excellent food. Well will be back...…………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………...
A very pleasant meal here while staying at the hotel. Quite expensive but we cleared everything so all good.
3rd Time we have been, always very friendly staff, good value.
Very attentive service even on a busy Saturday night. Good menu choice including GF and veg options. Food we had was of very high standard and the wines were excellent too. Highly recommended.
Fabulous food as always! Lovely seating areas and friendly staff
Had a lovely meal on Saturday night, everything was delicious and everyone we encountered was really friendly too.
