The Wheatsheaf at Combe Hay
Stunning in every way. The food was scrummy. We were made to feel very welcome and enjoyed befriending one of their dogs. Loved the whole experience. S x
As always another fantastic meal in a lovely location and friendly staff. Of course Ian was greatly missed no special snifters but a fantastic experience all the same.
We were a family group and all thoroughly enjoyed our meals. The youngest child was well catered for the older two had adult meals (12 and 14) Desserts were delicious!!
It was a Tuesday lunch and very quiet. Beautiful garden with lots of seats. Food was very nice indeed.
Your setting is wonderful but the service was very slow and our garden table was covered with bird droppings. The garden does not seem as well kept up as in previous years.
Superb - the ideal gastro-pub experience, with perfect terrace seating, superbly professional service (even in the younger members of staff), a splendid wine list full of good things (and a number of them very reasonably priced), and food that could not be bettered at this price-point in Bath. Simply ideal.
Tasty food in a lovely setting. Friendly staff and timely service.
Had booked to sit in the restaurant but as it was a lovely evening sat outside on the terrace.
It is worth mentioning that this is a dog friendly place and there were alot of dogs roaming around. 3 of the dogs belong to the pub and they do sit at your feet waiting for food scraps. This has happened on a previous visit too inside the restaurant so not just outside. This might be fine with some people but can be distracting not to mention unhygenic around food. If you don't like dogs this place isn't for you.
Fabulous food, warm atmosphere, beautiful garden and view
First found this place about forty years ago and always remembered the lovely setting with a lot of colourful flowers growing on the wall. (courting my wife then happy days)
Returned again last year, now with a grown up family, and was still impressed with the meals service and setting. Went back again this year and things just as good (can't say that about many places these days). Sitting outside in the garden with a good meal in beautiful weather. Reminded me of England as it used to be. Staff very good/friendly. The only (slight) criticism the chap behind the bar who I guess is the owner/manager seemed a little abrupt and possibly more interested in talking to the locals as opposed to a stranger. But that said I would still return.
Super food great service and a lovely venue, staff were polite and efficient we will be returning very soon.
We try and visit The Wheatsheaf as often as possible, particularly for special occasions , the food and
service is always first class and its such a lovely setting and fun atmosphere. Would highly recommend to
to anyone who enjoys the best.
great food, lovely setting, delightful staff, we will be returning
Slow service, inefficient staff, noisy football and no ambiance as it was so quiet for a Saturday night!
My wife says this is her favourite place and Harry our Cockopoo would agree
Lovely country pub with great atmosphere - food and menu great ( I am vegetarian). Note must like dogs which we do as they have a couple of dogs who added to the ambience but didnt mis behave at all.
We had to wait a while for a table to become free although we had booked for 8 pm however the manager did not charge us for our initial drinks whilst we waited when we came to pay which was kind. The food, decor and service was great.
A fantastic lunch, in lovely surroundings. The best pub lunch we’ve had in many a year.
We had a lovely visit one afternoon. Very welcoming and fab food! Brilliant for dog lovers too.
A great pub restaurant. Warm welcome, sophisticated food and a terrific wine list. A cut above
We visited on Steak night, great steak, great value, will be repeating again soon.
Such a accommodating and welcoming publican.
The ambience is excellent and the food also.
A cut above normal pub grub or chain restaurants! The food was refined, beautifully-cooked and well-presented. Although the restaurant was crowded, the service was excellent. We visited on 'steak night' which may have been an added attraction but early booking might be advisable.
Gorgeous lunch arranged at very short notice!
When ever we travel to Bath to visit family, we come to the Wheatscheaf for Sunday lunch. The food is always excellent, generous portions and nice atmosphere. The menu changes frequently and is never predictable. Service is good.
We enjoyed a superb Sunday lunch at the Wheatsheaf, Combe Hay. The food was delicious, with main course choices including two roasts, fish and a vegetarian option. Despite the fact that a couple of things were off the menu, excellent alternatives were offered and, with two courses costing £19.50 and three, £24.50, value for money was fair. Service was attentive and pleasant without being intrusive and the ambience was very relaxed, in attractive surroundings.
Super meal; friendly service - especially as we made the booking at very short notice
Sea bass with capers and shrimps was excellent: texture, flavours, portion size all spot on
Shared the treacle tart: exquisite
Lovely French Sauvignon Blanc (by the glass)
Lovely venue for a Sunday lunch. Good value and tasty local food.
I had a dinner at The Wheatsheaf.
Restaurant and staff were so lovely.
We will come back soon.
Very nice, fresh food. Good service, located in a lovely part of Bath. Would certainly return. Best cheese plate in a long time.
The Wheatsheaf, Combe Hay - not that far from Bath and well worth the drive along the single track road as it is a goregeous place. Lovely gardens - fantastic for a nice long lazy lunch
I took my Girlfriend here for a special meal as I planned on Proposing. Once we arrived at the Wheatsheaf I was very impressed as it is a beautiful little restaurant with lovely surroundings.
We were welcomed at the door by our waiter for the night and we sat by the fire place while we read the menu and waited for our drinks. Very nice touch!
The food itself was delicious and the service was outstanding. After dinner I popped the question and she said yes to cap of a wonderful evening. 10/10
Visited The Wheatsheaf at Combe Hay for Sunday lunch...absolutely fantastic meal. The beef was perfect!
The Wheatsheaf at Combe Hay offered a limited Sunday lunch menu that nonetheless offered excellently prepared food using good quality produce. Very good and efficient service, although we felt a little rushed. Overall cost was on the high side due to wine list, which only included pricey albeit good quailty wine. All round this was an excellent lunch and we will certainly be returning.
the wheat sheaf was a lovely venue the waether was niceso all the tables were outside creating a lovely ambience with stunning views . This is a casual restaurant with fine dining foods . the food was very good - would highly recommend - beware it is tucked away down many a country lane but it is worth it.
We spent a very enjoyable evening at "The Wheatsheaf.Combe Hay,BATH.
The food was outstanding,as was the service and atmosphere. I would think a 'Michelin Star" is not far away.
Very good food and service, was put out a little that the owner went and spoke to all the customers but ignored our table.
The Wheatsheaf is a lovely venue with superb food and the prices reflect that. If you want a special meal in a delightful location, this is for you. Gents- don't get indigestion: toilet is outside and pretty nippy on a sprong night!
Fantastic food, location and service. I recommend this restaurant to anyone who wants to have a good meal in a beautiful English countryside.
What a find and what a secret. I knew it was going to be special with the fresh breadsticks and smoked nuts. The menu was exquisite but not pretentious. Four fresh types of rolls were servred all baked on the premises. Chose from the Market menu which was a very good value but wanted to try everything on the menu. The portions just enough without being "designer /minimal "The wine list extensive and maybe a bit pricey but for true connoisseurs an amazing choice.
