The White Horse at Tilbrook
Our aim is to do the simple things right, go the extra step, make you feel at home and let you realise food is about fun!
Our influences and inspirations come from all across the globe, this may be an authentic pizza from a trip to Italy, chicken wings we tried in Malaysia or an amazing burger we ate on a trip to New York.
We received fantastic service as well as fabulous food. Our waitress was a great laugh and made our evening a lot of fun. They were welcoming of our birthday cake which we took along with us and all. The staff came out and sung happy birthday when they brought his cake with candles. We had a superb evening and the food servings were plentiful and great value for money.
This was our third weekday lunchtime visit in recent weeks. Our first visit had been fine, the second visit not so good and so we wanted to give it another go.
It transpired that there was to be a very large party of people who had obviously pre-ordered food. We were not told, until we were at the table, that we could only choose from the set lunch menu (no reason was given), this was particularly annoying. Had we known about the large party and limited choice when we had reserved, or been told subsequently prior to arrival, we would have gone elsewhere. Wish we had.
We were a party of 6, including 2 elderly, 1 teen and 1 pre-teen. The set menu (only 1 copy available) was limited and when I asked whether it would be possible to order something a bit more run of the mill (the large group were tucking into fish and chips!), we were told that we could only order from the limited set menu, although the chef would be happy to remove certain elements! The children therefore reluctantly ordered food that they didn't want. As this was a birthday treat for my father-in-law, it wasn't appropriate to get up and leave.
The Cobb Salad with chicken and pancetta, had pancetta but no sign of chicken. The Chef kindly sent a generous portion of chicken when we pointed this out. The lady that served us, whilst very pleasant appeared unsure and at times out of her depth. There was also a lengthy wait when we first arrived whilst the staff dealt with the arrival of the big group.
The group were noisy and it didn't make for easy conversation - sadly the impact on the other diners in terms of lack of menu choice was extremely disappointing, in particular as the large group were being served food other than the set menu.
Frankly the entire experience was underwhelming and rather embarrassing for us. The food was unfortunately mediocre - the choice very limited. The children did enjoy the puddings. Bad experiences (and reviews) are avoidable if you manage expectations.
This is the only Sunday lunch I’ve had without greens. Was told that the chef won’t serve them as it upset the look of the plate!!!!spoilt a good meal
Great venue and the food was delightful.
I treated my mum for lunch choosing here based on reviews and the menu and it did not disappoint.
The Lamb Shank was so tasty and the Chicken fajita burger was huge. Great flavours and a really extensive drinks list.
We were too full to try pudding but I'm sure it would have been just as good.
Lovely atmosphere looking out over the fields and a very secure area for children.
Will be visiting again as service was outstanding.
We tried the lunchtime menu which looked appetising. The service was very good, although there was something of a pause between the starters and main course. The food was fine but not outstanding, and, we felt, slightly pricey for what we had. The steak sandwich was very good.
That said, the ambience was good, the small dog was made welcome and we would certainly go again.
This was the fourth time we have visited the White Horse. The first two times we felt we were rushed in and out. The third time was very good all round. This time, ambience and service good, however food was decidedly average. My wife’s macaroni cheese we felt was a very small portion, an my burger was over cooked.
Great food served here, pleasant staff and good value.
As Gastro pubs go this is in the upper tier with high quality presentation in a pleasant environment, the food was very presentable and full of complex tastes, the children's menu had a good range of items however the macaroni cheese chosen by our daughter was far too thick and cheesy, yes they do say the cheesiest on the menu but eatable would be a bonus. The veggie burger was exceptionally good as was the beef however the limited vegetable selection; only button mushrooms, shallots and overly peppered cabbage left the dish short of gaps between the very well cooked huge portion of beef provided. Deserts were superb and very different to other establishments in the area. Car parking was a bit chaotic, at 6pm on a Saturday there were hardly any spaces left, and the cars that were there were parked such that they were using 1.5 spaces per vehicle. We will be back, but not next week.
As a family on holiday in the area to find such a gem made our break. Over the week we used this place three times, must say what we thought of such a fantastic pace.
Are at the white horse for mother’s day, the pub was very busy and lively but we weren’t made to feel rushed at any point. The staff handled the number of people very well and everyone was really happy, the food was glorious and we had a wonderful meal! We brought my nanna from Wisbech and she said she would make the trip again!! Will definitely be back! Thank you!
Lovely location, lovely people and a very relaxed atmosphere! Food was lovely and the service was very good too!
Good food shame the service staff can’t keep there thoughts too themselves and get a simple order right
Good value fixed lunch menu. Nice conservatory, would recommend.
Lovely food, service was good but could have been a bit cheerier. Overall it was good
We enjoyed a lovely Sunday lunch at the White Horse this past weekend. All the roasts, the burger and the mac n cheese went down very well. My veggie courgette, mushroom and ricotta tart was a little bland but was certainly edible. Would definitely visit again.
To have to wait over an hour for mains is unacceptable
Also,to have ordered and then be told there are no burgers left seems strange, considering diners who sat down after us got burgers - how can this be?
Overall a very disappointing experience.
Much improved since we last visited. The food quality is better and nicely presented. I do miss the fact that there are no “specials “ and the menu is always the same. As a local this is likely to soon feel rather boring.
We had a friendly welcome, which is always a good start. Service was excellent throughout the meal and our 6 year old granddaughter was looked after particularly well, with extra drawing paper being provided without any complaint. The food was excellent and the beer in good condition (I had the Young's). The pub has been renovated very well to create more light and space than before. Cannot fault anything.
Having been to the new White Horse three times now it is bound to be a regular. There are two or three excellent notable pub restaurants in the area and this is on a parr with the best of them.
We have brought two others for the first time twice now and their remarks confirm what I have said.
We had a lovely meal. Service was a bit slow but it was very busy, and actually it was nice to be forced relax over the meal! The waiters were polite. The food was lovely. Overall we were pleased and will return.
Trying too hard to be something is not. Perfect country pub Fayre is steak pie, lasagne, ham egg & chips ... None of which on menu. Service was friendly but food delivery was slow and when it finally arrived my burger was burned and hubby's bun was black. Took too long to bother complaining, just wanted to eat and leave by this point. Couple at adjacent table used frequent loud bad language and or son was dining with us-not the establishments fault but no-one said anything. Mediocre at best. Not somewhere for a special occasion
Fabulous Friday chippy menu. The haddock was melted in the mouth the batter done to perfection crispy but not heavy. Doughnuts were naughty but nice, with chocolate dipping sauce that just rounded off the Friday night perfectly.
Lovely place to eat,Great Staff extremely Welcoming.I hope to have a T Bone Steak next time and a Apple Pie and Custard but that's just me.
My husband and I are visiting a different venue every week and giving marks out of ten. The White Horse got a big fat ten. The first of many visits.
This was not our first visit to The White Horse, we are always impressed by the food and standard of service. It is our favourite place to eat and we particularly enjoy bringing friends. The staff are always friendly and welcoming whilst still managing to provide swift and efficient service. We're looking forward to being able to sit outside in the summer evenings and watch the sunset over the field - what a view!
great pub. stunning decor. lovely full menu. great presentation on the plate. friendly warm staff. def will be back. well done
Arrived and given the a table right in the doorway every time the door opened you were frozen by a gust of cold air. Had beef bourguinion aske if it came with potatoes. Told it came with pureed potatoes. Just came with curly Kale.
Definitely would not recommend and will not return.
This place is lovely, we are going back as only 10 mins away
The decor is amazing, we were seated in the new extension which has been decorated to an exceptionally high standard. The service was prompt and attentive. The menu was a great mix of tradtitional pub food and new recipes. The lamb shank was so tender it was falling off the fork. The wife's half chicken was accompanied by a large portion of chips and onion rings. Both were perfectly cooked. I would highly recommend the White Horse to anyone
Lovely meal with the family to celebrate my sons birthday. Will definitely be back!
Great service..great food. Lovely bright inside and a nice seating area outside
The White horse has gone from strength to strength since it's refurbishment last July and is clearly enormously popular and the number of people dining demonstrate that it is a 'destination' pub.
if you want to dine Fridays and Saturdays - make sure you book in advance.
We took three grandchildren for an early evening meal. The food was great, the surroundings and atmosphere lovely but what made the experience outstanding for us was the excellent service. Nothing was too much trouble for these super friendly staff. It was not our first visit, and will definitely not be our last. We love the place.
Been a few times now. Lovely setting, very nice food - My girls like making their own pizzas from the children’s menu. Veryfamily orientated. Lovely evening. Thank you.
This was our second visit to the pub (we'd had lunch there the week before). The ambiance is lovely, certainly it was when we sat in the conservatory on our first visit. On our second visit the conservatory was not being used - I'm not sure why - and we were all seated at tables in the bar, where it was quite chilly.
The food choice was excellent and, when it arrived was delicious. The pub was busy again, and the service pleasant but slow. One element of one of our dishes did not arrive, but this was rectified quickly.
A very nice experience, but would have been enhanced had the service been a little bit quicker. Our visit lasted 2 hours.
5 friends and I went for an all you can eat Rib night on a Monday. The food was amazing (unlike some all you can eat challenges). I can’t fault the value for money. The time between plates was quite long but in hindsight I don’t think I could have eaten any more anyway! 100% will be going again if they do another challenge night.
Lovely place to eat. However no lunch menu i.e sandwiches or lighter bites but really nice country pub.
Lovely meal yet again x amazing flavoured steak !! Landlord introduced himself x fabulous ambience great evening xx
We went as a group as had a lovely time. Gorgeous setting. Bit disappointing as a few items we wanted to order were not on the menu and there was a mistake with one of the sides. The food is good pub grub and I am sure we will return at some point.
Great service with a smile. Food was enjoyed by all 7 in our party with a good variety to choose from.
