The White Horse
After your meal, cosy up by the fireplace or soak up some sun in our beautiful pub garden. We have a newly refurbished, contemporary-meets-traditional restaurant space for dining, which is also available for private hire, weddings and celebrations.
Either Open Table or White Horse eliminated my reservation for 7:30 Friday August 23. The reservation mysteriously got deleted and showed in my Open Table as reservation in the past. Either a glitch in the system or a bad actor jacked my reservation.
Hi Darrin, I'm sorry to hear there was a glitch in the Opentable system following your visit. Your booking is displayed our end from 23/08, and we can see you confirmed for a table of 2, attended, and were seated by our team. I will definitely take this up with Opentable as a result, as we rely on them to enhance our customers' experience, not detract from their visit. I hope you enjoyed your visit aside from that, and we look forward to seeing you again. Regards, Adam Richardson
Had a great evening, will book again, lovely staff, very helpful.
We came for starter/main and singer. The food was really nice and the singer was really good. A fab eve :-)
Brilliant atmosphere, fun and friendly staff, excellent food 👍🏻
Sunday lunch was delicious! Gorgeous starters and yummy main course!
First time at this pub nice little place, garden nice size. Food good. However bar staff are not very welcoming unless you are a regular, tend to stand chatting to regulars whilst your waiting to be served, no apologises for keeping you waiting or a smile or polite. We asked for a tab to be opened they only do this if you leave a bank card behind the bar, I checked my bank the next day and a transaction had been taken out of my bank half way thru our visit via contactless. The owner refunded the monies 4 days later and was very apologetic and said he was investigating how it happened. Very nice chap. But beware if opening a tab.
Had a lovely Father's Day lunch here on Sunday. The roast beef was amazing and puddings great too. Will definitely be back!
I was expecting this to be a really good gastro pub experience but was terribly disappointed as I had booked for 6 including 4 friends who had come to visit. The menu was very limited and only very simple pub-style food. There were no specials on a Friday night, service was slow because there weren't enough waiters. We shared starters which were OK but waited nearly an hour for the main course which when it came was wrong. One person had to wait even longer for the replacement. The fish and chips was OK but the salad that came with the fillet steak was limp, straight out of a bag with nothing done to present it well or make it more interesting. In the end we complained and they did deduct 3 mains from the bill but I will never go there again and wouldn't recommend it if you want more than just some food to fill you.
My party had a lovely salad and another had a good roast beef. but my fish and chips was disappointing. Otherwise excellent service, ambient and good overall.
Lovely village pub with great selection of ales, gins and wine. Food is good with a varied choice of menu. I recommend the tapes as value for money if you want something light.
Not to sure about cold treacle tart
Nice little pub – tried it on a bit of a whim after not being able to get a table anywhere for Sunday lunch in St Albans or Harpenden. Was great, nestled down a side road in Old Welwyn. We'll definitely be back!
Good Sunday lunch & great to be offered a children’s portion
Friendly staff & lovely garden for children to play
Very slow service. We only managed to get on me drinks order in throughout the meal. They seemed short staffed.
It was so good we booked for Sunday lunch. This was our first time here. We love the decor and the food was lovely.
Had a great evening, food was delicious service was friendly always with a smile. Atmosphere was brilliant . Definitely will be going again.
Great service and very tasty food. Mark was extremely helpful and v polite.
Very friendly staff from the start. I met with a very good friend for Sunday lunch. The food was lovely but the noise was a little intrusive at times. Not surprising though, it was Sunday and there were families there. We will be coming back.
Always a lovely meal, brilliant service and lovely atmosphere! Would always recommend to anyone.
Great Sunday Roast enjoyed by all, could have been a little hotter though.
The restaurant was so noisy we could not hear our conversation. We asked to be moved to the one empty table in the public area, however this was next to an on tv and a music speaker that was also pumping out music. We asked for the tv volume to be turned down. The food was good but the table was not laid out so it did not look professional. This was our first visit after googling good restaurants in the area but I am afraid we will not be returning.
Lovely food and very good service.Loved it.Always a lovely friendly reception when you arrive. The surroundings are very pleasant and a lovely homely feeling.Sunday roasts are a all brilliant.
A favourite local restaurant and always consistently good
Long wait, lower quality than previous visit and expensive
Had run out of some dishes and we booked for 6.15pm and restaurant was empty. Ribs full of fat , no atmosphere considering it was 27th Dec. Will not return
This was our third visit, great food as always though they had run out of quite a few items, despite making this reservation way in advance. The server wasn’t happy either and it showed. No conversation, quite rude in fact - shame as it was our family Christmas get together.
Dinner was delicious, really cosy and inviting restaurant and service was great! The waitress serving us was very personable, friendly and efficient. Would always recommend the white horse!
Best Sunday roast in the village!!
Great country pub, with a good sized restaurant and garden seating.
Staff are pleasant and helpful and service is always good.
Would thoroughly recommend. You won't be disappointed.
Great pub expensive starters. Lack of choice to be fair. Noise levels a little loud. Staff okay depends on who serves you.
We like the pub and it has a good atmosphere however on this occasion we felt that the roast beef Sunday lunch was let down by the beef being a bit tough. Service has been better on this occasion it was a little indifferent and a little slow to pay
A quiet, unhurried evening meal. Quiet location with limited parking. Excellent food and a good selection of Gin's. Baby ribs to die for!
The staff were nice enough but service was very slow had to go to the bar to get our own drinks. Noise level was unbearable due to a large party. Sunday lunch was quite tasty but portions were small and my Yorkshire pudding was a fraction of the size of others.
We dined here on my birthday. Service was good, decor of the dining room v nice. Varied and interesting menu and Our choices didn’t disappoint. We are going as a larger family group for Sunday lunch shortly so we’ll see if it’s as good!
Lovely pub, friendly staff and great food. Will be back soon!
Good food and attentive service. Shame no cocktails and poor selection of non alcoholic drinks.
After a 40 minute wait the food arrived. The table adjacent to us had returned their food as it was cold- the Yorkshire puddings being referenced as very cold.
Our lunch arrived with cold Yorkshire puddings, which were returned, and despite a request to have the gravy served separately this had been poured onto the plate and quite clumsily wiped off!
It would have been a more pleasant experience had we been informed of the delay in service. The dining area was full with every table waiting for food with no update.
The only small criticism is that we waited 45 minutes for 2 steaks. There were only 2 other customers so it wasn’t busy. Nobody came up and explained or apologised about the wait.
Everything else was fantastic.
A really enjoyable, girly Sunday Lunch. The roast beef was delicious and the service was brilliant. A warm, friendly welcome with very attentive waiting staff. We had a great time and will definitely return soon.
The Sunday roasts were very disappointing, vegetables lukewarm, hardly any meat & potatoes hard and not worth £15, would not recommend.
Food was good but the pub is very small full of locals so after we had our meal in the dining area had to leave as there was no room
