Our seasonal menus are changed regularly and offer fantastic Set Lunch and Dinner Menus, available Monday to Saturday, Lunch and Dinner. We also have an excellent A La Carte and Sunday Lunch menus, not forgetting the little ones with their own menu too.
We have won several awards at The White Oak and a thank you to all those fabulous customers who help make The White Oak a success, without you there would be no White Oak!
We hope you enjoy The White Oak as much as we do.
Great food with lovely staff.
Loved the ambiance and friendly service. The food was excellent! Will definitely return.
Superb Sunday lunch, excellent service, lovely atmosphere. The sticky toffee pudding was insanely good.
We were a party of 6 yet were asked to move off the table well before the allotted time of 2.5 hours for such a party. The lunch was only ok because I and others could not understand why the Yorkshire pudding took up over half the plate size and noticed that they had been cooked probably hours before service but then just heated up when required. Chosen lunches were said to come with a selection of vegetables yet we only had one buried half carrot plus some cabbage. For dessert , I chose the treacle tart but the tart base was rock hard and probably undercooked.
I rarely write reviews about restaurant meals but this time, I was rather astonished by the above facts whilst attending this establishment.
Lovely evening celebrating our wedding anniversary. Received a complimentary glass of champagne at the start of our meal. Food delicious, attentive, pleasant staff. We both had starters, mains (steak and cod) and desserts. A side order of the Parmesan cauliflower cheese, the best we’ve ever tasted! We will be back.
The food is excellent, but very rich (much use made of butter etc.).
After ten years away we preferred it as it was then and not as it is now which is OK but not worth a 10 mile trip.
This is our go to restaurant and were there twice this week. The food was up to the usual excellent standard.
If I have one comment it would be that with wood on the walls and tiles and wood on the floors it can be noisy when busy.
Lovely food but stingy portions, more beef/veg in the Sunday dinner needed. Delicious nonetheless
Consistently good food. Great service - the staff are so great here. We never disapointed
Food was lovely and service great. V. noisy in there though due to another table being loud - didn't bother us but did bother a lot of the people around us!
This restaurant is always a good and safe bet for food. We were 5 people and most everyone really enjoyed their food. I would have given 5 stars, but the fish special of turbot, was a little disappointing, Quite a lot of large bones in a fairly bland sauce. Otherwise the scotch egg and all other dishes were fabulous.
Been here a few times and food has been good. Recent meal spoiled though by serious over-salting. Another table complained of same issue. Probably just a one off but meant couldn't finish by meal. Always a bit noisy (acoustics) so not the place for a quiet meal. Service was slow.
Excellent character inn lovely setting good food and service
Really lovely service from Russ and Nic. We had a couple drinks and truly enjoyed the evening. It was made extra special for my friend who was delighted to be surprised with bday bubbles and a dessert. Thanks so much.
Nick the manager, so incredibly helpful to our guest, who has serious health problems and needed a special diet meal to be created. By talking to Nick in advance he
Loved his choices of menu and was blown away by the special customer service he received.
We were a group of six and the table given to us was very comfortable. there was a good and interesting choice of food; vegetarian, meat and fish. The food was generally good. The service was friendly and charming and time between courses was well-judged. It was a little noisy but we were able to hear each other quite well. A very pleasant evening.
I love this place. Fab cocktails, fab food and fab wine. Great staff
Food was as excellent as ever, although I still miss the days when you could choose from a huge variety of steaks and sauces. I was glad that no-one was sitting at the next table, though, as things could've become rather cramped.
AS ever - great service and superb food from the team at the White Oak.
Service was extremely slow and food not that fantastic
The attention and food was great. We did wait a bit too much between starters and mains, but the food was worth the wait.
I might recommend it, nothing special, food quite tasty but not a lot of veg within the dish although mentioned on menu. It would have been nice to be told this. We did love the triple cooked chips. Overall thought the menu choice limited. Price of dishes in relation to what you get seems to be excessive. When visiting another gastro pub last week, we paid a few more £ per dish but the portions were far larger! Only had 1 glass of Chenin Blanc - tasteless but the G&T was beautifully presented.
This was a birthday meal and the staff made it a very special
Evening. Lovely evening, would definitely go back
A really enjoyable Sunday roast in a lovely setting. A special mention for the brioche donuts that rounded off the meal perfectly.
Excellent food from a varied menu, great venue and good service too. Will definitely be back...
Delicious food a cut above your average pub food. Service was good I would of liked a little bit friendlier. Will definitely return.
The food, wine, and service was outstanding. A little gem.
This was the first time our party of four had eaten at The White Oak. We were all very impressed by the whole experience: the food was delicious as evidenced by all plates being returned empty! Main courses of cod, pork belly and lamb rump were all cooked to perfection and presented with style. Not the cheapest, but well worth it.
Fantastic Sunday lunch roast beef perfectly cooked great crispy roast potatoes everything seasoned correctly - cannot fault anything . Pleasant and attentive service
What a delightful evening. As I had mentioned it was a birthday celebration we were given a complimentary glass of bubbles whilst reading the menu.
Delicious food , attentive staff and a birthday treat again with dessert. Also the best coffee ever and even the waitresses own soya milk.
Will definitely be back and recommend to friends.
Thanks for spoiling us.
I love this place, the food is always great and Sunday roast is excellent. This time was rather noisy as screaming children did not seem to be under control by the parents.
A return visit to The White Oak with family to celebrate a birthday. Both children were well catered for and really enjoyed their food, whilst the two adult meals were very good quality. The kitchen was also very good, taking into account the dietary requirements of one guest and providing an excellent meal.
A slightly prosaic looking lunch menu turned out to be an exceptionally well conceived and prepared meal. We enjoyed such dishes as pot belly, panna cotta and cheesecake but each dish was prepared to a standard seldom, if ever, seen in a gastropub or in an up-market restaurant, for that matter.
Unfortunately we are not local to Cookham but I am manufacturing an excuse to re-visit ostensibly for some noble and selfless purpose but, more truthfully, to enjoy the Whole Oak lunch table.
Inadvertently we booked for Monday night which is 25% off steaks. The steak was beautifully done. But those triple cooked chips - I would go back for these alone. Recommended course for strength training - 16oz steak for 2 have for 1 person and follow it with the doughnuts (I know you’re all clamouring for strength training tips on here). The chorizo jam with brioche toast that came with the parfait is what has been described as yum-yum by anthropologists. Finally - Cookham itself - a wonder. Go to the Stanley Spencer gallery then repair here.
A group of 5 of us had a lovely meal last Saturday night. The staff are friendly, attentive and efficient - nice balance. The menu is quite limited but seasonal. Nicely presented and fair size portions. Good wine list and cocktail selection too. The atmosphere and decor is lovely - being a pub as well of course the noise level is buzzy. I do think that the prices are about 10-15% too high overall for the overall experience. If you accept the over pricing and slightly limited menu (esp for vegan/vegetarians) everything else is lovely.
Ive been to the White Oak on a few occasions now. On my most recent visit I eat dinner in the restaurant with friends, menu has a good choice of options and the food quality and presentations was very good. I felt the service at the table on this evening was not as attentive as it could have been and no one came to ask how our food was either whilst we were eating or when the table was cleared! It also took a long time for someone to bring the card machine to the table so we could pay the bill at the end and the restaurant was only about half full. Overall we enjoyed the food and the atmosphere but I feel the service needs to be a bit sharper.
Excellent high end Gastropub food. Have also eaten at sister restaurants Three Oaks and Number 5 .... very consistent standard across all 3
The portions of food were a little small
Lovely local pub in Cookham with back garden. Excellent food, with reasonable set-menu.
