After eating here many times with the previous management, this was to check out the new proprietors. The food range was varied and interesting, and our choices were excellent. Service was attentive, enthusiastic and helpful. We will certainly keep coming here. Our only reservation was that the place needs some redecoration / refurbishment, and we understand this is on its way.

They had accepted far more bookings than the kitchen could cope with. Our starters came promptly but we then waited over 30 minutes for our main course. I accept that it was a Bank Holiday but the very least that could have happened was for the manager to come and had a word with us. The serving staff were fine but needed far more guidance from the manager as to what to do in this situation

We planned a reunion for 6 ladies who worked together for many years and now retired. We’d been before and enjoyed it. It was pretty on the outside with lots of tubs of bright coloured flowers and a good sized car park. Going in we were given a friendly welcome and shown to our table. Drink orders were taken immediately and asked if we wanted water on the table. All the staff were pleasant, polite and friendly. We didn’t have to wait long for our food orders to be taken. We were given the main menu with two courses for £27 and a specials for that day at a supplement. We had a little time before the food came but not unreasonable when having freshly cooked food which also looked attractive when I came. I had the cod cheeks starter which was delicious and the Sea trout and salad for mains, sharing some chips with a friend. The portions were just right for us. We all enjoyed the food, the service and getting together. There were just two minor issues. Firstly one of my friends had a starter with Burrata, walnuts and nasturtiums. We did point out it was disappointing as only four tiny crumbs of walnut and half a nasturtium leaf which didn’t warrant the supplement. They quickly reduced our bill accordingly. I think it’s better to say at the time do they know, rather than complain anonymously later. The other thing was they had workmen in ( fixing the floor?) who weren’t noisy but had doors open making it chilly. Once again they responded quickly to our request to close the outside door. Only two minor niggles but I’d recommend this restaurant for its delicious food and responsive service. Much better than most so called gastro pubs.

Sunday lunch with friends. Sat outside in dappled shade as it was a sunny warm day. Everyone enjoyed their food. Service was great. A throughly enjoyable afternoon.

The meal was okay and edible, but unfortunately didn’t live up to the previous operators of the White Oak. Previously the food quality was amazing as confirmed with their Michelin recognition, but the current operators don’t have the same quality level or refinement. It’s a great shame as the White Oak used to be a regular go to restaurant for celebrations and events.
