We normally enjoy our experience here but last Sunday (8th March) I think the chef had a day off. Food was cold or burnt and the table next to us made such a complaint saying that they wish they had gone to McDonlads. We sent back our deserts (crumble with custard) as the were stone cold and I sent back a glass of bubbles as it was flat.
Come on guys, what is happening?
Very good experience, even though it was New Years Eve it was not too noisy and could hold a conversation.
Great service and excellent food. Would recommend. Went for lunch, nice atmosphere and good menu
Ambiance very good service extremely satisfactory but the proportion of food relevant to the cost was very small.
....from start to finish it was a very good experience ....staff were polite and not intrusive, overall I can’t specify any fault. Will certainly visit again.
The Whittington Arms is a big place and it was nice to feel uncrowded at the table. The initial welcome was friendly and that seems to be the vibe of the pub. The young waiting staff were well trained and attentive. The menu covers most food requirements and my family were all able to find options to please. The dishes themselves were cooked with care and presented well. We were all pleased with the meal and for having chosen this pub.
The Whittington Arms has easy access and great parking. The staff are professional and knowledgeable of the menu which is always a bonus when visiting for the first time! The food is very good, and a wide menu to suit all palettes. Will be back for definite when in the area again. Thank you Whittington Arm!
It was our Anniversary and I wanted something special so we went here having not been for a while as the last time we went wasn't the best but we thought we would try again. The starter was good but when the main came out my wife's fishcakes were just warm and consisted of mainly mashed potato on a pea volute which was very grainy with no taste she also had a side salad that was served in a tiny bowl and it consisted of rocket leaves a couple of slithers of cucumber the tops of spring onion and two tiny slices of tomato which was £3.50. at the end of the meal my wife had left half of it and we complained and it was removed from the bill but that is the second time we have not had a good experience there and wont be going back
Lat minute booking for an early dinner and the service and food were great. Not bad prices too for the quality of food.
First time at this restaurant & will definitely be returning. The food & service was excellent & it was very busy, I would highly reccomend this place.
Lovely food .willl visit again. unfortunately our online booking via opentable was not received by the restaurant. Clare one of the senior staff.sorted out a table for our group, even though the restaurant was fully booked. Staff were all very friendly
Well presented traditional Sunday lunch with a range of excellent roasts. We were pleased to receive attentive yet unobtrusive service in this light, airy restaurant with well-spaced tables.
First time I’ve eaten at this pub and it was great. The food was lovely, the service was excellent. The pub is friendly and modern. I will be going again and have told a number of friends already to go there
Very good meal, my girlfriend and I would highly recommend :)
Eaten there a few times before and as the time previous excellent food and service
What a shame!
Our maiden visit following a friends recommendation and first impressions were very good. Offered a table and orders were placed. Then was subsequently asked if we wanted to move table after placing our order due to a large party being situated at a nearby table. We took up the offer.
Starters arrived and no issues, mains then took a further 50 minutes to arrive which is where the problems lie as I felt having waited that long that it would be worth it.
Afraid not, my order of roast beef dinner was luke warm at best so i asked the waitress to come over who apologised and fetched me another at which point my two daughters and wife were already working through their meals. My replacement meal was just as bad, again luke warm!
The waitress apologised and blamed staffing issues so after speaking with the manager agreed to knock my meal off the bill.
I personaly would have expected the manager to come over and apologise as my visit left a sour taste and a cold one at that which is very disappointing considering first impressions.
Have been on a number of occasions and the standards have always been consistent. The cuisine is always excellent with a varied menu catering for all tastes.
We came for the valentines menu, which was £29.99 for three courses and a glass of prosecco, however the glass of prosecco was never brought over and when we ask about having an alternative to the prosecco (as neither of us wanted it) I asked for a small lemonade instead. When the bill arrived we had still been charged for the small lemonade, so I had to ask for it to be removed from the bill, which was done but as a result we were still effectively overcharged as my husband did not get the free drink. The food was also below the standard that we would expect of the restaurant. I doubt we will be back in a hurry. (Previously we had had the chateau Briand steak which had been over cooked and the manager offered us a refund on that without us saying anything.
I would suggest avoiding this place if you want to celebrate or treat yourself.
Perfect evening for my wife’s birthday , efficient and attentive staff without being overbearing , everything ordered arrived at a good temperature , well presented , lovely tasty food , with plenty of variety to choose , and a good vegan option available , just had a look as it’s fun to try something different .
After being shown to our table we waited nearly 30 minutes before anyone came to take our order although the pub was by no means full we then had to wait about 40 minutes for our food to arrive and although it was nicely presented when I ate one on my sweet potato fries it was Lukewarm I also had to ask the waitress to change my cutlery as there was food residue on my fork and the knife handle felt tacky all in all it was a long distance to travel (we came from Great Barr Birmingham) for an overpriced mediocre meal. We will not be going back.
Really lovely food, good portions, attentive service but slow for a Saturday night. We waited an hour between starter and main and finished our bottle of wine we wanted to savour with our steak during the wait.
Excellent service and friendly front of house. Nice atmosphere which was relaxed and still busy.
Starters were very tasty; we had calamari and the crab pot! Sunday roast was great and the beef cooked perfectly, with more that generous portions. My only criticism was for the monkfish special; very small piece of fish with greasy butter aftertaste.
We will be back for Sunday roast for sure!
