A beautiful Cathedral Marquee in our gardens completes the perfect picture.
Amazing. Great food. Great service. Great setting. Great ambiance. Great value
Very enjoyable Sunday lunch. Excellent friendly service with plenty of food cooked to your requirements. Would definitely recommend to family and friends.
Love this place. Always great. I always tell people they must go! The food is so Good! And it’s not expensive.
Great service , food was very tasty just a little disappointed on desserts do like the old cheesecake that they do which was not on menu but say ing that it was tapas night see you soon
We were most impressed with the quality of the cooking the refinement of the dishes and the taste of the food. Service was excellent and we were made to feel very welcome. We will be back
Excellent food excellent service
Atmosphere excellent- generally excellent all round!
Excellent service and food, we will be recommending the restaurant to friends and family.
This was our first visit to The Windmill & we were pleasantly surprised. A very cheerful atmosphere & friendly staff. The carvery set meal was clearly explained & easy to order. The portions of beef, lamb & pork were very generous. The accompanying vegetables were plentiful & perfectly cooked. An added bonus was having their own supply of water included. There was a good choice of deserts. All in all we had a relaxing lunch & able to enjoy good conversation as the acoustics enabled us to do so. A rare event these days!
Had an Easter meal here last Sunday. Faultless food, staff and ambience as always.
Gravy was very thin, like oily water.
Roast potatoes were too crispy verging on hard
Had a lovely evening with my girlfriend & thank you for being so accommodating. My favourite restaurant of 2019!!
Great dinner and very friendly staff, owner is a interesting guy.
Absolutely loved it. Great setting and amazing food and atmosphere
The service was best to none and food was excellent. The views are awesome.
Could do wit a bit of better background music to attract younger generation.
Initially I was impressed with the greeting/service. However, once the food was ordered things went downhill fast. We ordered just beef and lamb, but got pork as well - not too much of a problem as my companion was happy with this. There was no mint/horseradish or apple sauce. It seemed to take forever to attract someone's attention to request, by the time it arrived the meat was cold!
The wait to have our plates cleared and order the next course were unacceptably long. At one point there didn't appear to be any serving staff. We were not alone in waiting so long. One lone waitress was doing her best and was very good, but she seemed to have been left to it and not supported by the management.
The food itself was pretty good, but the bill was incorrect and when queried, we were given a long explanation as to why the lemonade to go with the gin was charged as extra - not something we were expecting or was clear from the menu. As for the meals being charged at an extra rate, we were told that the culprit would be dealt with and the bill would be amended. I'm not interested in the whys or wherefores - I don't want anyone reprimanded on my account - surely it's down to management to ensure this is correct anyway?
Apart from the young waitress who was really doing her best, I felt that once the management had made their intial introduction and sales pitch, they lost interest. I noticed the manager joined a large party which were served very promptly.
Overall, the experience was very disappointing. I had taken my cousin, who was over from Canada and feel very let down. Initially she'd been impressed and thought we should take her husband when he comes over to join her. Sadly we will not be returning and as a local, I most definitely will not be recommending to anyone soon.
The best restaurant in West Oxfordshire by far. Everything from start to finish was enjoyable, cant wait to go back
We went a Sunday lunch WOW, 7 of us including 3 men with hollow legs full to bursting. Big platters loaded with 3 roast meats, Yorkshire puddings, roast potatoes and a wide selection of vegetables. Extremely good value as we could choose how much to have depending on appetite, no waste and top ups available if we wanted them. A good selection of puds and UE locally roasted coffee.
Outstanding food and service. Excellent choice on the Prix Fixe menu. I particularly recommend the Midnight King Prawns and the Slow Braised Blade of Beef. The staff were attentive and friendly but discreet. I will certainly be visiting again.
Living in Witney we have driven past many times, but we finally decided to visit and were not disappointed.
Ww were met by friendly, welcoming and attentive staff who quickly seated us and saw that we were comfortable.
The food was fantastic - started with the complimentary amuse-bouche, followed by beautifully cooked and well presented main courses. Finished off with a simple but very tasty dessert.
We highly recommend The Windmill and will certainly be back again soon.
A lovely find and excellent location. Great views across the valley.
Lovely food and excellent service.
Excellent attentive service, at a lovely location and ambiance. Food of high quality, without being rushed or waiting too long.
Lovely meal great service was a little disappointed as looked at the online menu and was completely different to what was in the restaurant there was a cheese board online but not on the menu when we got there.
Apart from that was lovely will definitely revisit thank you
A camembert to share, indulgence that is oh so rare
A blade of beef that melted to the touch
and a supreme chicken supreme that was sublime
Two desserts shared, Pancotta with just the right consistency
and Rhubarb and Berry Crumble with just the right balance of fruit and pastry
Attentive staff, and a range of nice gins, not a fault could we find, no praise could we spare
Went out for my husband's birthday to what we thought would be a pleasant evening. We got there for 7.30pm which is when I was booked for to be asked what table we would like which is fine got shown to our table and served our drink after 5 minutes while was also fine. It then went downhill from there the girl that was serving us seemed to have a attitude anyway but she was wondering round serving everyone else and not us. 25 minutes later said we then had to wait another 5 minutes for someone to take our order bearing in mind people came in after us other waiters had already taken their orders!! Her customer service was bad the whole evening was bad we walked out after she said we had to wait even longer for our order to be taken I've never been to a restaurant that makes you wait to take an order. The whole time was a shambles and ruined his birthday. I will not be recommending.
A little tricky/disappointing when we arrived. We had to wait for a while, even though there was a member of staff available who had clearly seen us. That said, the staff in the restaurant itself were fantastic. We had a French waiter who was really friendly but also incredibly professional - a balance that is quite hard to get right!
This restaurant has very friendly and welcoming staff. The presentation of food was very good . I'll recommend this to anyone who like a good day out and I looking for good food.
PLEASE note you have to book a table a week or two in advance because it is pretty busy
From walking through the door the host made you feel so welcome to the food was superb and the waiting staff were all so nice and pleasant.
We had such a wonderful time this evening. Thank you so much. Will definitely be back again.
The Windmill Bar & Restaurant in Asthall makes it all look so easy: food, drink, service, pleasant surroundings, courteous staff - the lot. However, as with all art, the grace and elegance are the fruits of great effort, much dedication, boundless goodwill, endless practice, and a constant desire to do things the right way. From welcome to goodbye, customers are made to feel at ease. Staff are present, but never intrusive. The food and drink menus cater for a range of tastes, with dietary and allergy-related requirements being part of the selection. If room could be found for a disabled loo, the place would be perfection itself. However, that does not detract from the wonderful product on offer.
Very pleasant experience, friendly and efficient staff, very good food.
