The Windmill Bar & Restaurant
Head chefs Richard Lenik & Thomas Curtis have earned an enviable reputation plus over a thousand 5 Star reviews for their delightful cuisine.
A beautiful Cathedral Marquee in our gardens completes the perfect picture.
Fantastic evening, lovely surroundings and great service, will definitely return soon
Rather overcooked haddock cake. One poor waitress did very well but made for slow service.
Lovely setting overlooking the valley, service and food very good. Appreciated the complimentary bread, oil & balsamic whilst waiting for our order and didn’t even need to ask for table water.
Would definitely return and no hesitation in recommending. We had the lunch deal which had plenty of choice.
This was our 5 or 6th visit and on this occasion we was very disappointed food very poor not cook beef very raw vegetables not cooked very hard that had to put a lot of force to cut potatoes broccoli parsnips carrots, we complained and was told the head chief has changed.
I booked my birthday meal back in April for September 22nd and have been assured this will be perfect. If its not be sure I will complain.
Welcoming atmosphere and warm greeting to begin our Windmill lunch. Venue is nicely decorated with live piano music as a background noise which wasn't too loud. Service was good overall although a couple of staff were much friendlier than the others. Food arrived on a large platter and there was plenty of it. It all tasted delicious and would definitely have been 5 stars other than it wasn't as hot as it perhaps could have been. Ours was the last table to be served so maybe it had been plated a few minutes? Would definitely recommend and we will return. Great value for this area. Very pleasant afternoon.
I was wanting to write a rave review about The Windmill Restaurant owing to its ambience & setting but sadly I can’t . There were six of us for the 3pm Sunday Lunch menu. On arrival our table wasn’t ready, fine, we were happy to relax with a drink but sadly that never arrived. When we eventually got to our table we had to wait a further thirty minutes. Our order took ages to arrive but when it did it looked like a dogs dinner. The scraps of pork, beef & lamb were plonked on beneath a pile of Yorkshire puddings. The roast potatoes were cold & soggy. Maybe we were unlucky but we certainly had the dregs!! On to the desert, took over 30 minutes to place our order so asked if we could have it outside. No problem & although we had to wait another 30 minutes we were at least in great surroundings where a six year old could let off steam. For the number of guests we could only see two waitresses & a supervisor which wasn’t enough. We had to ask a couple of tunes for water when previously it had been in the tables. The waitresses were rather sullen which made us feel uneasy & shy of asking for anything.
Arrived early and was seated straight away, lovely service definitely go again and recommend
Host certainly made our experience here a great one. Nothing was too much trouble. Food was amazing and just the right amount. Will definitely be back highly recommend
Arrived at 2.45 for 3pm sitting completely ignored for 45 mins after we received bottle of table water..after 4 newly arrived tables were served we decided enough was enough... left without having lunch
Not good service at all
The outlook was very pretty.
The restaurant was very nice, with spacious seating.
The service was good and welcoming.
The food was very good and filling
Overall a very nice dining experience
A peaceful, lovely, relaxing evening as it was a rare night out away from our children. The service was great, staff friendly, accommodating. Food great, set menu was value for money although not blown away by seafood linguine (main) otherwise would have rated 5. Also, whilst I understand a business need to make money, the Prosecco was way overpriced. When it arrived at our table, it was the same label as in our fridge, so we know how much it cost.
The setting is beautiful. The place was very clean and lovely open space. Plenty of parking.
It’s a set menu with a set price with additional surcharges if you have steak.
I was disappointed that it wasn’t a carvery any more, but overall it was very nice.
Great live entertainment, amazing food & nice wine. What more could I ask for, nothing....excellent once again.
Stunning meal and great value
We chose to dine at The Windmill because there was one of their 2 vegetarian options which sounded particularly nice. Upon arrival we were told that they were unable to do this option as their head chef had left early. I didn't like the other option so had to order a starter with a side of fries for my main instead.
My husband was also told that his first menu choice (pie of the day) was unavailable.
It's a nice setting, but quiet for a bank holiday weekend (Saturday night), and now we know why. The menu is quite limited anyway, so when around half the items on it aren't available, it leaves you with very little choice. It's also rather overpriced!
After looking at menue on i booked a table for Thursday 22nd august when we arrived we were presented eith a Wednesday menue which only did steak and burgers no starters very disappointed there was only one other couple seated so service should have been good but we found it very slow
Waitress a little lax. Never bought the ordered beer. One of the meals was completely wrong, turned out there was no asparagus so the requested meal replaced by another without informing us. It was all nice though and the bill amended accordingly. I dine here often and that is the first time such occurances have happened. Staff training!
Not great!! I dont like to leave bad reviews but I felt inclined too.
I mean lots of excellent places within the Cotswolds and this just isnt one of them.
The food was bland, the service was okay but they didn't seem to know what they were doing.
I was made to feel important and special both myself and my partner.. xxxx
I put on website when I booked on line that it was my husbands birthday as it asked was it a special occasion , but there was no acknowledgment of this on the night , it was lovely food and venue but lacked atmosphere , could do with soft music maybe in Back ground, the food was excellent but just lacked ambiance , not that we wanted a fuss but maybe just an acknowledgement would have been lovely, would go again on a different night we went Saturday maybe try Friday next time , and maybe Sunday lunch as heard it is nice
The food and service was very good but the menu could be improved by having a wider selection. The atmosphere and location are exceptional and our guests from America enjoyed there Cotswolds experience.
This place has the potential to be great with better staff and management
Timely attentive friendly service high quality food within a relax atmosphere, topped off with subtle live music.
A very disappointing visit compared to previous excellent lunches. No tablecloths on tables, food was bland apart from the beef and side salads were wilting and dry . I really wish they change the limited menu occasionally. Maybe it was just a bad day, but even the toilets were grubby with empty toilet rolls everywhere. We will try again another day and see if the joy returns!
Really good restaurant for a meal of good quality and good service
beautiful food - beautiful presentation. staff were very helpful. sat on the terrace, very comfortable chairs, which makes a difference and a very pleasant view. we didn't ask if we could take our dog next time if we sat on the terrace, but we will definitely be returning.
Amazing value for money.
Have been for their sunday lunch but this is for the first time we have been mid-week.
The food as always was excellent, however on this occasion the service was poor compared to what we’ve come to expect at The Windmill. We will certainly return but will stick to evenings instead of Sunday lunch.
I was disappointed on our visit this time , as previously the food was better quality and the service was more professional than this visit unfortunately. I had been promising to take my son and his partner and my partner there for a few months now and having finally arranged it we all thought it was disappointing quite frankly . It will
Not put me off visiting again and I am putting it down to an off day .
A warm and welcoming place. Extremely good value for money and super service
Excellent food and excellent service in a lovely location.
Stunning place. Gorgeous food and service to match. I will be back again and again.
We were warmly greeted..
The carvery on Sunday was excellent. It was presented on a large plate, to help yourself. Lovely selection on 3 meats, lamb, beef and pork. Vegetables cooked to perfection, sometimes hard. All the condiments. Desert selection lovely choice. Definitely be returning. We’ve been on a Saturday evening, that was also excellent.
Fantastic beautiful setting wonderful atmosphere and fabulous food impeccable service very welcoming and friendly absolutely love this place this was our second visit would definitely recommend
Wonderful place and came recommended. However, service by waitresses was slow and seemed uncoordinated or directed. Starter was good but main course of expensive streak was not the best cut of meat and lacked real flavour. Although ordered medium rear as advised on the menu I felt it was over cooked and rather chewy! Waited over 15 minutes for main course to be cleared and offered dessert menu. For the cost of a meal for two at almost £100 I did not feel it was value for money.
Great service, lovely food, good value, lovely view. The piano was lovely but a bit difficult for deaf people as it sort of dominated the noise space so made talking harder.
Would recommend this venue ( and have done), but would really like to keep it quiet so I can get a seat on the deck and enjoy the view!
As always the food, service are superb. Great value for money and a fantastic seeing
Once again the food was excellent with the only downside being my own decision to try something different which wasn’t quite to my taste, however the fact they still provided me with my usual dessert when it wasn’t on the menu made up for my own error! The atmosphere was superb with an excellent pianist providing entertainment whilst we ate. To top the food & entertainment is the service, it truly is exceptional & we look forward to going back again...& again!
My steak was cold so I didn't get the taste that I wanted.
A fabulous meal on Fathers Day for our family of four. Excellent service from the staff, who are always really good with our young Daughters. This and of course the setting and delicious food are one of the many reasons we love key to eat here. 5⭐️
