Now in the care of Mick and Lydia Binnington, The Windmill has been sympathetically refurbished to maintain its character and original features including the lovely floor to ceiling oak beams.
A seasonal menu in our relaxed, cosy restaurant offers elegant, simple food sourced from the best produce from around the local area, paired with a friendly and efficient service.
This was the perfect choice for my birthday lunch. Everything was really perfect from the moment we arrived at the Windmill which is off the beaten track!!.. the welcome, the ambience, the food and the owners and staff. Fabulous!
Always a pleasure to dine here! Friendly attentive staff delicious food we love it here! Best sunday lunch in Essex!
We have been to this restaurant a few times the food and service is very good.
Simply stunning, ridiculously good value, a must go.
First visit to the windmill we were greeted by a friendly waitress , had a drink at the bar and served by another friendly waitress we were not rush and everything was super
Found a hidden Gem..
We made the reservation to celebrate birthdays with friends.
The food was excellent and they helped with dietary restrictions.
Everyone was so friendly and helpful, we had such a lovely evening we’ve booked it again.
Firstly food is excellent. The staff extremely efficient and friendly. A truly wonderful experience.
Everything about the Windmill is superb ! No complaints at all ! Love it! 😜
Nice restaurant food good went for Sunday lunch but found menu very limited
Our food was outstanding. Lovely welcome from mine hostess and excellent service. The ambiance was relaxed, warm and friendly. We'll be revisiting soon.
Amazing food! Simply superb!
Really super evening in a great setting
Best food I’ve had in a long time. So delicious. Friendly staff also. Would highly recommend.
8 of us dined on Thursday evening to celebrate our wedding in this beautiful pub/restaurant, and we were all very impressed with everything from the friendly welcoming atmosphere to excellent service and delicious dinners. We will definitely be back and, although there were other tempting options on the menu, I would not hesitate in choosing the same again - scotch egg to start, rib-eye steak for main course and passionfruit creme brulee for dessert - all to die for!
Some of our party of 8 + 2 toddlers were half an hour late having gone to the wrong venue but the staff were very understanding and overall we had a very relaxed and excellent meal.
The food was absolutely fab! Will definitely be back. Recommend the scotch egg no end!!
I had the scotch egg to start which had a crisp outer shell with a runny egg inside, absolutely delicious.I followed this with the rump of lamb with celeriac purée and samphire. The lamb was very tender with a beautiful flavour. Dessert was a date and salted caramel toffee pudding, again it was delicious.
One minor grumble was that the chips were an extra £3:00. The price of the two course meal is £21:00, I would have willingly paid £24:00 for it.
I loved the atmosphere of this place. It has a very relaxed feel and the staff there really make you feel welcomed - the food was also lovely and there wasn’t a long wait for it either. We went for Sunday lunch and it wasn’t too busy. The music went well with the design of the restaurant.
Never fails ! Love it here!
Fab food, great service, excellent value.
Had a really great meal at the Windmill, manages to keep a restaurant feel despite having a busy bar and the service was friendly and welcoming.
The food is what really made this stand out though! Absolutely amazing, the scotch egg was second to none and my main was also amazing (chicken with ham pie). Will definitely return again! Thank you
A really excellent experience from start to finish; outstanding food and attentive service in a very pleasant setting.
Possibly the best food pub in Essex- certainly in my top 3
The best steak I’ve ever had, spotless inside and amazing experience; well worth the extra money
It's our second time eating here and we'll back soon for sure.
There's something these guys are getting right that others aren't. I'm not even too sure exactly what it is? Perhaps it's because...
...the food is to die for...
...you're greeted with a beaming smile...
...the service is top notch...
...the venue is homely, quaint and cute...
...the atmosphere is relaxed.
I think it's all these little things combined that make dining here a memorable experience. A rare find.
We're already looking forward to our next visit! :)
My wife and I had a lovely meal to celebrate our anniversary.
The food, service and ambiance were spot on. Nice to see some locals enjoying a drink at the bar too.
Many thanks to all.
I was meeting two friends for lunch to whom I’d really recommended The Windmill. I was wondering if it would live up to everything I’d said and it did. They loved it - the food was delicious. Also the service and the ambience were perfect for friends who hadn’t seen each other for a long time.
First class dining and food. People are lovely and friendly.
Could not fault anything. We had a fab time. Can’t wait to go again.
Our recent dinner at The Windmill was lovely. From arrival at beautifully finished building, we were made to feel very welcome by the staff. Inside, the restaurant is nicely finished and quite cosy.
We opted for the very affordable two course menu (£21 a head) and were absolutely delighted by the food, which was some of the best we've had in a while.
On the whole, I'd happily recommend this to friends and family and will be sure to return in the near future!
We have been to the Windmill several times, and always had a well cooked (not reheated), delicious meal with excellent personal and friendly service. We tend to go out for meals only during the week which is easier for us, so we don't usually have a problem booking a table, but I am sure they are very popular at the weekend.
Two of us had the pea and ham soup , one had the mushroom risotto both delicious ! Then it was roasts all round cauliflower cheese my fave ! Plenty of veg selection and gravy ! Desserts the creme brûlée’s were to die for ! Lovely waitress cosy and warm pub love it here !
Excellent hot food. We all ordered differnt meals & all loved them.
Good wine list
Delicious meal well presented and vfm. Staff were very attentive. Will definitely rebook
This was our second visit to The Windmill. It’s was as equally good as the first time.
We enjoyed the good value set menu although 2 of us opted for the steak which had a supplement (both agreed it was excellent). It was the first time we had been and will definitely go back.
HAVE VISITED AROUND 4-5 TIMES NOW. ATMOSPHERE ALWAYS LOVLEY AND FOOD AND SERVICE REALLY GOOD BUT WOULD WOULD BE GOOD IF MENU CHANGED MORE OFTEN.
Simply put, this one if best quality food restaurants in the area. Please keep up the standard.
Excellent high quality food and good value. Very enjoyable and a definite place we will return. Good location.
We are never dippointed when we dine here...no matter what the occasion.....from the staff, to the food to the service to the atmosphere it alway feels special ...and you feel special
Eaten here many times with different friends , never fails to impress. Our friends are very envious we have such a wonderful restaurant so near us
