The Wine House
Excellent dinner, as usual. The rack of NZ lamb was particularly special. The personal attention of the owner in her role as sommelier is something we always look forward to.
Birthday. AC was down and it was pretty uncomfortable. The food was so good we sat and enjoyed the food
Would have rated it higher. Felt rushed even though the restaurant was not busy (day after 4th) otherwise a lovely evening
Great dinner of mussels.
Always a great time at the Wine House. Lamb chops were excellent as was the short rib. We will be back again...............and, again:)
Great evening with delicious food and good wine!
We went for appetizers & the flight of Australians wines. I had the tuna with mango salsa which was very good. It was a nice enjoyable time.
Father’s Day dinner!
We love the Wine House and come fairly frequently. The food is always outstanding. I had to take a star away for this particular visit, because one member of our party didn’t get her food until about 5 minutes after the rest of us. Other than that, everything was wonderful, as always.
The Wine House is a little gem in downtown Fairfax. We have been there many times and have never been disappointed.
Wine value was excellent. Food quality was very good. Great casual date night.
Best al fresco dining in area. Great ambience for conversation.
Menu is varied and offers interesting takes on traditional entrees. Exceptional wine selection. Will go back again.
Lovely Friday evening al fresco dining with live dinner music compliments of city of Fairfax quartet. Delicious fish and vegetables and good white wine. Perfect storm for the senses.
Had a great dinner here when meeting a friend. The Wine House had snapper as one their specials & it was really delicious. Also had another favorite of mine - the beet salad and a glass of a NZ sauvignon blanc.
Went on a Wednesday night flight night for wines from Provence. Always a great experience!
It was the perfect place to meet up with friends and catch up with some delicious food.
Was were seated outside in a pleasant setting. The meal started out fine, but somehow, we felt ignored towards the end of the meal. A wrong dessert was served to us by another waitress. We asked for espresso which did not appear for a prolonged period of time till we sent a reminder. Our original waitress was around but seemed to be busy with other tables. We asked another server for the check. The restaurant is small. There were 3 people serving, one other appeared to be a manager who was doing a lot of talking. We had had great experiences at the restaurant in the recent past. Not sure what happened that evening, but it sure gave us a wrong vib.
Our group thoroughly enjoyed our dining experience at the Wine House. Mixed green salads were fresh and large enough to share between 2. We also enjoyed the scallops, shrimp and grits and pork tenderloins. Not a morsel was left on anyone’s plate. All dishes were seasoned and prepared nicely. We shared a vert nice bottle of Red Silk Shiraz, sommelier’s featured wine.
‘We look forward to returning soon. Thank you for your hospitality and attention to detail.
Outstanding as always. Consistently excellent food and service.
We usually go in to DC from McLean for dinner out but didn't want to hassle the traffic so we looked south and The Wine House was a great find. Very good reasonably priced wines and the food was great.
Good food with a perfect wine pairing. I highly recommend the carrot ginger soup.
the food seemed great, but I only got the cheese. My partner had meat, and it was great. Huge variety of wine to choose from all prices and the prices were very affordable.
I will definitely go back to try a dish. Service was cordial.
The Wine House staff just seemed unable to cope with the level of business. Drink orders were forgotten. Water orders were very late. It took twenty minutes to get the check.
On the other hand the food was well prepared and the wine by the glass selections were quite good.
Location was great, service was perfect and the food was phenomenal!!
As always, the meal, service, and wine met all expectations. We love to introduce friends to the Wine House - this establishment never disappoints.
Can you believe our waitress brought me a glass of wine that had turned! Really unforgivable. No real apologies! Replaced the glass of course but what's the name of this restaurant?! Otherwise the entres were delicious! The cod is a fantastic dish. I would recommend this place but wish they would train their staff better. The dessert was an overpriced disappointment so beware.
One our favorite places for dinner. Lots of fresh menu choices and I really like the great wine selection. Highly recommended for a nice enjoyable meal.
Great wine great food! Would definitely like to go back soon!
Food as always was excellent. I have enjoyed the food and wine at this restaurant many times over the years, but this time the experience was ruined by excessive sentiment in my $15 glass of wine and the server's snitty response.
We have been to the Wine House quite a few times and always enjoyed ourselves. On this visit, the food was excellent; however, the overall experience was a different because of the server. He did not inform us of the specials, forgot to replace cutlery, had to be reminded to bring a requested glass of wine. Throughout the dinner, he never checked that things were okay; and, aAt the end, he just dropped the check without a comment or "thank you."
The other waitstaff there have always been friendly and appropriately attentive. Saturday night's experience, unfortunately, didn't live up to our previous visits. We'll come back, and hope for a different server.
I love this place, but sometimes - this was Sunday early evening - the service seems to slow down and lose momentum. The food is great, and the portions are generous. Desert portions are, in my view, over generous! But excellent! As always, the wine never disappoints!
We’ve eaten here several times before. The food is always great. Today was my birthday and we arrived on time for our reservation. There were no tables available and they were waiting for guests who had payed to vacate. Our table close to a window had an ant problem which we reported. Again we had to wait for guests to leave. We made our decisions about ordering while we waited: salmon and asparagus soup for starters and braised short ribs and steak frites for entree. The waitress came back a few minutes later to double check that I had ordered crab cakes so we reminded her of our choices. My husband had ordered his steak medium and it came out red and had to be sent back to the grill. We ordered a cappuccino and latte to go with what we assumed was a complimentary dessert for my birthday. Instead my cappuccino arrived on a plate with Happy birthday written in cocoa powder. We thought there might be some compensation for the ant issue, but there was none. Quite unusual compared to most other fine dining establishments we patronize. Consequently, our review reflects a less than stellar birthday dinner.
This was my second time having dinner at The Wine House. My orzo pasta dish was delicious, and my friend enjoyed her meal as well. It was a nice evening, so there were people dining inside the restaurant as well as at the patio seating outside!
This was a special birthday dinner for my wife. We wanted to try something closer to home and this was phenomenal. Great wine. Great food. Steady service that never rushed us. It was fantastic.
Nice dinner in a relaxing atmosphere. Nice wine selection
The Wine House is a small restaurant in Fairfax City. It could be called a hidden gem. The menu is fairly constant although there are usually a few specials. The food is always excellent. The service is friendly. We were happy to see it comfortably full on a Saturday night as we would hate to have it go out of business. Many people pick a bottle of wine from their ample supply and enjoy it with dinner. We dine there before attending performances at George Mason's Center for the Arts and noticed several other diners had the same idea.
Great food and wine. We traveled 30 minutes to get here. If it were closer, we’d go regularly. Will you open in Alexandria?
Outstanding! Food was wonderful and
Wine fantastic.. we will
Be back very soon!
Collin was great bartender/server! We will be back!
My friends and clients LOVED it! They had never been there before and couldn’t believe how great your restaurant is!
