The Wine Place Covent Garden
From breakfast to nightcaps, The Wine Place offers an authentic Italian experience focusing on an unmatched range of Italian wines that can be purchased or tasted by the glass.
The wines, spanning all 20 Italian regions, can be enjoyed alongside meticulously sourced Italian cold cuts and cheeses or complemented by hot snacks.
Morning coffee and a new Italian breakfast menu are available, together with a selection of ‘breakfast wines’. Choose from Espresso and Cappuccino with freshly baked ‘Cornetti’, or try the low-alcohol Moscato or Prosecco for something different!
Lunch and dinner are served with hot and cold dishes.
Saturday breakfast starts at 9am!
It was closed even though I had a booking on open table.
Lovely and cosy, particularly Christmassy with the carol singers outside.
The Wine Place has a lovely wine selection and yummy menu options, but is ridiculously overpriced considering the “simplicity” of the food. We spent £80 for a 500ml caraffe, meats and cheeses platter, focaccia bread (that should come with the platter, never as an extra) and 2 more glasses of wine. Could have had a full meal in any good quality London restaurant for the same price. I suppose they charge “tourists’ prices” given the location...
Service was poor, did not select the fact that I had booked through OpenTable. Overall service slow, had to move to counter to pay
Great wine. Great service. Okay food at reasonable prices for the area.
A delightful location and excellent wine cellar. Try the meat and cheese platters as an alternative to typical mains. The staff are very knowledgeable -- follow their guidance!
A good experience - efficient and very pleasant staff. Good food and especially lovely mixed breads. Excellent Lazio wine. We bought a bottle to take home. A calm haven in a very busy part of town in Covent Garden.
We enjoyed the venue, food was good. Very quick service
Booked for a nightcap two nights in a row. First night they told us on arrival they were closing as the night had been slow. Second night we were told at first they couldn’t find our booking then when they found it and we were 30 mins early after 20 mins we were told it was last orders. I asked for a coffee and was told the machine was off. Would not return.
The wine was a little pricey (by the bottle), but the food first class and the staff more than friendly. If you can talk Italian you will chatting untill closing time. Wonderful evening.
We had a very poor experience as, when we arrived, we found that most of the restaurant was booked for a private party and the only table was a bench with very high stools close to the door. This was totally unacceptable as I am disabled and so we left to try to find an alternative restaurant nearby which fortunately we did. The staff were not very helpful and did not seem to very concerned that our evening was spoilt. There was also very poor access to the restaurant with a few steps with no handrail - totally unacceptable today.
Food was decent although lasagne pasta was very over cooked and stodgy. Service was average as we had to ask a number of times for things. Could have been more attentive. Great music outside in Covent Garden and pleasant setting inside.
Food fresh and tasty with plenty of vegetarian choice. Good for what we wanted - pre-theatre drink and bite to eat in pleasant surroundings. The excellent busking group outside were a bonus. Big and unusual wine list but would have been nice to have a few more reasonably priced bottles but hey ho guess this is London and Covent Garden at that. Would come again.
Had a fantastic meal at Vini Italiani before going to the theatre. I would say quite rustic and a small menu so if you want something a bit special then probably not the place for you but my husband and I absolutely loved it and the food was fantastic and the service.
Excellent spot for a lunch in the middle of Covent Garden. We even had an opera singer performing outside, so bound to be other acts that set up there for lunch time. Lovely food and really nice ambience. Lovely staff and very decent food. Would recommend.
excellent couple of drinks at vini italiani - great service and great price, thank you!
I had booked table for my husband and myself on Sunday 19th of November as it was his birthday , I had previously visited vini’s with my son and loved it , I had the aubergine parmegianna and my son the lasagne which was amazing, so when I knew I was cling to London for my husbands birthday I was so excited to bring him to try the lasagne as it’s his favourite , we popped in on Friday afternoon for a drink and thought we would have some food unfortunately they didn’t have the lasagne(they had sold out ) so I had the aubergine and my husband had a toasty , I said to the the lady serving us that we were booked in for my husbands bday on the Sunday at 12.30pm and could she please make sure that they saved us some lasagne as they had sold out that day , she promised that the lasagne would be reserved ,however we were hugely disappointed upon our return on my husband’s actual birthday to be told again “I’m sorry we have sold out of lasagne “ I mention the server had reserved us some on the Friday ???? But no she didn’t ,I know it sounds silly but I’ve waited over a year to take my husband to the wonderful little
Italian I have raved about only for it to be far from wonderful . We were so disappointed we just left and then had to find somewhere to eat on his bday . I would till reccomend going as it is a lovely little place BUT to avoid disappointed maybe call ahead to make sure all the menu is available !
A delightful little Italian in the heart of Covent Garden . Mainly renowned for its amazing selection of Italian wines they also serve an excellent array of Italian food i.e. Breads , cheeses . Meats , pastas and salads. We started with Parmesan Lollipops just delicious then a selection of breads and pestos followed by some delightful meats & cheese before our mains which were a Porchetta Platter and Gnoc N Cheese yes gnocchi smothered in Cheese very tasty though . I would definitely recommend a visit especially if you fancy a nice glass of Italian wine a lovely meat and cheese plater or a nice meal and you can listen to some nice music outside aswell or just people in the buzzy atmosphere of Covent Garden
Was very nice, table space is very small if ur having food or anything other than a glass of wine.
Otherwise great place.
The wine was lovely and pretty good selection. Limited seating indoors. So sat outside in covered courtyard. On show, not very private, very touristy. Although there was some pretty good entertainment with fiddle players and an opera singer.
This little spot has a very limited menu, It is more for wine and tapas. The live entertainment was fun, not a good place if you want to talk. It could be a fun, especially people watching and some local talent entertaining. However, unfortunately the night we went, someone burnt something in the kitchen and the fire alarm went off for the most part of our meal. The owner/manager was very apologetic and kind and comped our water and service charge.
Fantastic wine bar - great food and drink and wonderful service
Lovely little Italian wine bar under the Covent Garden piazza. Good place for a first date over wine and a sharing board of cheese and meats. Busy, but not loud. Would visit again.
Reminds me of bars in Italy, lovely Puglian Settantacinque red wine and great food. Will be back.
Unfortunately another patron scraped our cheeseboard with her coat as she brushed past the table. But for the most part it was a nice experience.
Great wine, great service, not cheap but on par with the location. Loved that string quartet playing in the yard!
We booked a table for sunday evening at 19.00.
When we arrieved at the restaurant we were told that the kitchen would closed at 19.30. We would never had come to the resaturant if we knew that in advance!!!
When we asked for more bread at 19.35, the waitress answered: "No, sorry, the kitchen is closed". The meny in internett had also much more different food yhan the meny in the restaurant.
New winter dishes on offer are great (lasagne & aubergine bake were delicious). Wine selection is great if you are ordering a bottle but there aren't as many choices of wines by the glass as in their sister outfit in South Ken. Would return!
Best Italian wine list in London by far, but food service this time was poor - 2 out of 3 hot dishes were not available so we had to go elsewhere for our meal. We did enjoy two excellent and unsual bottles of white - a Vermentino from Sardinia and a Pecorino from Les Marches.
Nice cosy place with plenty of wines on offer. Friendly staff, only wish the place was a bit bigger. It is well located for central London with a lot of options around.
Postitive was its a Great Wine Bar! - so many differnet types of good wines you could ask for!
Negative was the food was very bland and tasteless.
Unfortunately despite booking, the venue had booked a large party in over the top of the booking. This was rather disappointing as I had chosen this venue particularly for my parents prior to the opera. The waitresses did all they could to make up for the mistake but we left quickly.
