Fantastic position with wonderful views ,food above average ,well worth a visit, we shared popping prawn baguette and crab sandwich last summer ,both were excellent fresh and tasty
We come back to the Winking Prawn year after year. Fantastic setting, delicious food, great service and such hard working people working there. It is busy from breakfast all the way through to late evening dinner and it is always clean and tidy and welcoming.
You have a fantastic reputation Winkng Prawn, we are from Gloucestershire and many people know of you there already!
We will be back, thank you again.... a piece of heaven!
Top drawer - had the outdoor BBQ - great value at 20 quid a head. Nice vibe beside North Sands and student waiters. Went back for buffet breakfast this am - superb!
Very well located seafood restaurant just outside Salcombe and opposite the beach.
Obviously a popular venue and food was very good.
Wine list a little predictable but not too bad.
Generally rather good.
A bit stuffy inside when it‘s a nice day outside. An overly pushy maitre d‘ destroys the charm of this coastal eatery...
Great meal and service great way to start our holiday week
Good overall but felt rushed. Food came too quickly.
The lobster was tough ( frozen?) and my monkfish was pretty tasteless
Annoying kids were left to run amuck
Next time we will book later in the evening
great restaurant, always a good atmosphere. its a beach café, but starting to look a little tired. ready for redecoration - would restore it to near perfection
Miserable service waitress and boss. Over priced average food. Lobster a complete! rip off: size of one scampi, £25: utter joke.
Have been here plenty of times but not for some time to eat dinner. Whilst food was lovely the service was not good at all with the exception of one young lad who was spot on. Real shame it has gone like this.
Just really good food nice atmosphere can't really fault it to be fair
We were given 2 options of dinner 6 or 8
We chose 6
A bit early but I’d rather eat earlier than later
We arrived at 5.45 and walked in on a very wet and windy day
We approached the staff and told them that we arrived
Immediately we’re told you need to vacate the table at 7.30
As the table was booked again
Most annoying
I don’t like being told how quickly we need to eat
Anyway not needed because the speed at we we were served was incredible
This was our 2nd visit to TWP and our last visit 2years ago was delightful
Ok it was August bank holiday and the weather was better but now hint of being hurried along
However the food was good and we were out and on our way by 7.15
Note to staff
Don’t drill your customers about time limitations
It’s not good for the digestion or for your reviews on places like this
Probably wouldn’t come again in a hurry
Great food friendly and efficient staff nothing was to much trouble. I will be booking again as soon as I can
Great place for early evening meal with children. Great menus choices for adults and children. Fish was delicious. Children entertained themselves with colouring books and the dressing up box!
Great food, lovely location, will be back
Very atmospheric with Storm Brian outside. Lovely food and what a transformation from the daytime beach cafe!
Lovely atmosphere even though Storm Brian was howling outside! Thoroughly enjoyed a delicious meal, attentive excellent service
Great menu, friendly staff, good views over the beach.
Overrated . Food average. Expensive. Would not return.
The food was fantastic the half lobster was particularly good, the service was great and they are dog friendly
Ich würde mir eine größere Auswahl an vegetarischen Gerichten wünschen, insbesondere mehr Gemüse und weniger Käse. Am besten hat uns das Ambiente gefallen. Die Fischgerichte waren ausgezeichnet.
Fantastic family meal, ticked all the boxes , diner aged 70+ to 10 years old. Great service super fish menu at dinner. Also great break, fast. Amazing location.
First time eating here in an evening but have been previously for breakfast & lunch. Excellent menu & service. Relaxed atmosphere & amazing seafood. Always worth a visit. Our local place to eat.
Great ambience, but food obviously mass prepared in advance as arrived within one minute of ordering. Mains were ok
The food is always reliable and service slick and friendly. Only let down this time were two complete large cloves of very strong garlic in the sauce with the fish and one of which I ate thinking it was a small potato
Very good food and service as always. Great location and only a short walk from the quay side.
Always a great restaurant food and service excellent
Great family friendly restaurant with a great menu choice. The portion size is good and the fish dishes are delicious.
Really enjoyed the Fruit de mare for two with the lobster! Decided to push the boat out as it was our last night on holiday and we the food didn't disappoint.
The only thing was a large group of young drunk adults sitting near us were very loud and sweary. I thought the lively atmosphere was good at first but unfortunately for us the loud group were there the night we were and as far as I could tell the staff didn't ask them to keep it down.
I am really sorry for the poor scoring but my wife and I had both been looking forward to our evening meal at the Winking Prawn and even changed our arrangements to make sure we could get a booking.
After reading the menus online I was set on the BBQ and my wife decided a la Carte but we arrived I was told we both had to either one or the other not a combination which I don't believe is explained clearly on the web site so I was very disappointed and had a la Carte.
My starter was the scallops with black pudding and was ok the black pudding was diced extremely small which was served different to how I have had it before and the salad had no dressing iam sure if I had asked they would of offered me dressing.
My wife had the crab and prawn tower which lacked flavour again very disappointed.
I had the sea bream main which was nice and my wife had scallop Cassoulet which was ok nothing amazing and seriously lacked flavour.
The restaurant was very noisy which is understandable for the time of year and there were a large party placed right beside us which did not help.
On the up side the Prawn juice Ale was exceptional and locally brewed.
So to summarize we were both very disappointed and felt the meal lacked flavour and the option of either BBQ or a la carte not a combination should be more clear on the website.
To be honest the bill came to £68.40 and we have had better from other sea food establishments.
Been here a number of times in recent years and always found it to have a great buzz with good service, sadly the latter was really poor on our last visit. May have just been a bad night but staff really not interested and very abrupt affecting our usual high praise for the place.
A little under whelming in terms of ambiance. It was rammed and as a result quite noisy with tables close together. Some larger parties especially loud. The service was not brilliant. It felt like all hands to the pump to cope.
On a minor point the table had too many items on it leaving not enough room for the food. So we had to ask the waiter to take away quite a number of items.
Expensive and unbearably hot in the restaurant. Staff not flexible at all, and the customer certainly isn't always right here. Looking at the owners car and personal number plate highlights what a gold mine this place is. Top tip is to have the BBQ outside and order two plates for four people.
Always good value, wholesome food, great atmosphere and excellent service. Our joint favourite restaurant in Salcombe. Well done Winking Prawn
A good Salcombe, beachside stalwart ...relaxed & fun for all the family for breakfast, lunch, supper or just icecreams or a cream tea! Exactly what we need every time we visit Salcombe!
We had an absolutely amazing time at the winking prawn, a lovely relaxed ambience with candy colours throughout. We both had starters - king prawns in garlic sauce which were delicious! Followed by fish mains. Highly recommend a visit.
A great location, excellent service, good atmosphere. Food was good but we didn't believe it was good value for money.
As always the winking prawn lived up to expectations a holiday down here would not be complete without a visit excellent seafood , dog friendly and great fun for kids . Been for years and never disappoints 😊
Had a delicious meal with attentive staff. Ambience was great, right on the beach with a relaxed seaside vibe.
It's a fun place but we were located by the fancy dress box which my children loved but so did 20 other Children and they were screaming. The Parents obviously thought it was an acceptable volume as they were on the other side of the restaurant. The waitress was very polite and efficient but she whacked my son on the head with a heavy plate when passing my meal so We had to ask for an ice pack. I had the half lobster which was very tough. The salad was very small for 2 people. Generally very over priced but I guess you are paying for the location and novelty factor and not quality food.
