Lovely evening meal. Staff were brilliant, friendly and attentive. Asked the right questions regarding food allergies and nothing was to much trouble.
Lovely hearty food brilliantly cooked steaks. Desserts where substantial and stunning. We will definitely go again.
Me and my girlfriend were staying in Bishopsthorpe for the night and decided to try out this local pub, booked a table for two and were seated in the window, service was efficient and friendly, the food was divine and fresh (we saw a chef pick some rosemary from a plant outside for our Camembert), we will be visiting again if we are ever nearby.
Friendly family run pub, excellent food and service. Local and nice decor. Nice outside space and seating.
Great food great service would highly recommend for all occasions
Fab as usual good home cooked food. Friendly atmosphere great staff highly recommend.
Nice food, attentive and friendly staff. Menu varied and small meals catered for.
Bishopthorpe is extremely fortunate to have such a wonderful pub in the Woodman!! The food is very good and the beer is kept well. Phil and Victoria are to be congratulated on creating such a good dining/drinking experience.
Not keen on too many people knowing how nice this place is as may have a problem booking next time!!!
The most gorgeous Sunday lunch in Bishopthorpe! The roasts are very reasonably priced for the massive portions you get, everything is cooked perfectly and the staff were very friendly. My only minor criticism would be that as we were sat by the door and it was a wet and windy day, we did feel cold each time someone came in or left. Overall I would love to return!
Food was great and overall would recommend. The only thing letting it down was the service after our pudding. We waited 20mins after finishing and no one came, despite the table next to us getting and finishing their main and being cleared up in this time. In the end we went to the bar to pay. We actually really enjoyed the pudding and with the good value sized portions we were going to ask for the leftovers to be boxed up- but we gave up on this- just a shame as the food was lovely.
The food and atmosphere at the Woodman were very pleasant and just what we were looking for in a casual Sunday lunch with friends. We were seated next to a large group of people who became quite loud soon after they were seated, but this was to be expected at a busy period.
Very good food the meat was delicious! Would definitely recommend if you are in the area!
Great find, lovely place and lovely food. Would definitely go back.
Thai green curry was very very salty but otherwise overall experience was fine
Very good food and service always a warm welcome!
Great home made pies
An excellent Sunday Lunch with good portion sizes and speedy service
Really enjoyed the food from an original and diverse menu. Great service and surroundings. Just one thing... Wobbly coasters (ruined my evening ;-) Highly recommended!
Went for Sunday lunch with parents and 2 children. All enjoyed, with great food and excellent service.
Lovely service, brilliant children’s playground, the owner even went and got our kids when the food was ready. Good value, friendly and relaxing would recommend to anyone
This is THE place to eat if you are looking for good, honest food at very reasonable prices in a family run, friendly environment where - after just a few visits - you are treated like an Old Friend every time you return. Can't fault the place, absolutely top notch!
Absolutely delicious food, top marks!
Friendly service, very polite and attentive.
Second visit here, food was ok but felt it was better last time, service to start getting a drink the food order been taken was as it should be, friendly greeting etc. Three of the meals were not really enjoyed by the group, i enjoyed the wedges style chips but one of the party didn't maybe an option between this style chip and normal chips should be an option especially when you order fish and chips. Service after the mains did take a nose dive we ordered puddings which arrived as they should, and the waiter went off to serve another table of diners, only for us to realize we had no spoons or forks for them! so we had a five minute wait while the other table were served to get them not very good the waiter should have made sure we had them before moving on. Then i asked for the bill which arrived and they had missed all the main dishes off so was about £75 below what it should of been. So i pointed this out to the waiter who didn't seem to understand he thought we were saying we had been overcharged! so i had to go the bar to sort it out and pay the correct amount. I have to say the blonde girl serving on was brilliant and couldn't apologize enough for the mistake, and seemed as though she was having to take the lead in restaurant and didn't seem to stop working. So overall a little bit disappointed. But it didn't spoil a nice evening
We were very disappointed, the chips had skins on which my husband cannot eat and when he asked if any other type of chips available the assistant went to ask and we were told “no sorry about that”
My lasagne tasted very salty , I like salt but it was as if the chef had tipped the whole pot in. When I mentioned this , i was told the same”oh sorry about that”
Ladies toilet handryer not working and no paper towels .
The chef visited the toilet whilst my husband was in and left without washing his hands.
We paid our bill of £78 and we never got our change back.
We have eaten here on several occasions and always been very happy but I am sorry to say we won’t be visiting again in a hurry.
We celebrated Father's Day and the service was outstanding along with the food. Loved it.
First time for Sunday Lunch, but been before for weekday lunches. Great choice of menus, Excellent Service, all with a smile. Arrive early to park!
This pub never fails. Great meal every time. Large portions and excellent quality. Well worth a visit
We have visited 4 times now when we go to see our daughter at university in York. Excellent service and excellent home made food . We will be back .
Despite the credit card terminal proplem's (Visa issue, not the Woodman) the whole experience was 100%. My wife, daughter (7) and myself had a great table, good food and drinks. Great area outside in the rear garden form children to play in good weather. Friendly staff.
Well done Woodman, we will be back.
Really really nice food, great atmosphere, again lovely team of staff. Make you feel very welcome. Would highly recommend.
Made a booking to celebrate son's birthday & chose The Woodman because of the large outdoor play area for our grandson , aged 18 months. Sadly, the weather ( first significant rain in about a month !) put paid to that idea. Table was set as agreed, including high chair & our order was taken after a short wait. Meals duly arrived & everyone was pleased with their choice. Only one problem, the " birthday boy" had been forgotten ! This was rectified pretty quickly ( server had forgotten to order two of the same dish ) & we were on our way home in time for little one's bedtime.
A very pleasant experience with attentive, but not over fussy staff. Would happily return again, if only to sample the kid's play area !
been quite a few times since we moved to next village away, mostly for sunday lunch, food is always fantastic, and this time they had their new menu out, i had a trio of sausages with parsly mash was really nice, to be honest i couldnt make my mind up what to have, so many things i liked on the menu as well has the sunday lunch of course, always friendly always efficient always a good atmoshere and always a nice meal, we will be back again shortly
Some new items introduced to the menu and found to be excellent, along with traditional dishes. Try the new Thai curry and keep the steak offer for two persons in the choices! Desserts also great.
The Woodman is a big favourite of ours, it ticks all the boxes - amazing food, excellent service and a really warm welcome. This Sunday we went traditional and had the beef and the leg of lamb, both cooked to perfection. Loads of different veg from cauliflower cheese to carrots with star anise plus loads more. Yorkshire puds and roasties were delicious and then there was lashings of gravy. What's not to like
Met up for a Family Sunday lunch. The food was very good and the Woodman Inn was a lovely place to eat in.
This is probably our 4th or 5th visit since moving close by, love the food and ambience, and the service is quick and friendly, we particularly like the sunday roast where you get lots of meat and giant Yorkshire pudding and scrummy gravy, nice variety of veg too. will be back soon
Lovely well presented food. Wonderful flavours and home cooked. Service a little slow- mains arrived but our starter plates had not been cleared. Unfortunately gluten free items are not marked on the menu so the waitress had to keep going back to the kitchen to ask what was suitable.
We were seated next to a really loud family with poor behaved children so ours was not a relaxing experience but hopefully if we visit again it may be.
Excellent service. Good, tasty food well presented. We cancelled another restaurant to return the next day!
Great service from the guy that served us. Food was lovely. Will be returning
Been to the woodman on a few occasions & they never disappoint. The food is beautiful and its overall a lovely place to go and eat at. Great atmosphere, lovely staff. Cant recommend them enough.
Excellent food that was very tasty. Ambience was good and service excellent.
