The Woodmans Arms
We are the proud winner of the Newcastle Chronicle’s Eddy Eats’ pub of the year for character, quality, service and value. UK top 3 in the Seafish National Fish and Chip awards 2019 and Diners’ choice award for best ambience.
We support our local farmers, and work closely with a number of local suppliers to ensure the very best fresh produce. All our food is cooked freshly to order so whether it be a bar snack, light bite, leisurely lunch, evening meal or Sunday Roast it is safe to say that you will in safe hands.
Restaurant was busy so had to wait for our table but it was worth the wait. Food fantastic and service great. The staff were efficient and pleasant. Would highly recommend.
Went for Sunday lunch I chose the beef it was delicious you got loads of veg and it was all hot and extra gravy
Staff were very efficient they work extremely hard as they never stop
Food was very good, considerably over staffed but service was very poor. A waitress started clearing the table when not all had finished.
Great night at the Woodman’s with friends. The service was 10/10 helpful, attentive, made recommendations, made sure we had everything we needed superb! Food was great and so much we couldn’t eat it all. Great place with great ideas. Really good vibe. Will definitely return.
Having been here on a number of occasions I knew the food was good, booked a table for 9 for a special occasion,th table was set for 8 and another chair had to be added, there was not enough room for 9,the next large table behind us could not get there chairs out very easily,it appears that they are trying to cram too many people in,it was uncomfortable.the food was good as usual.
Three of us had roast beef Sunday lunch, one lamb shoulder. Meat was very well cooked very tender. Vegetables were quite hard, greens were fine, carrot & parsnip not so good. Sweets good, ginger sponge, cheesecake & lemon bake well all very tasty. Overall meal was enjoyable, service excellent and ambiance good. Would return and recommend.
It would be nice to have a menu for smaller meals as there is far too much on the plate and this causes a lot of waste.
This is the second time I have dined here for Sunday lunch and I wouldn’t go anywhere else now. The food is out of this world and the meat just falls to pieces on the plate. The staff were extremely helpful and accommodating to my self and my party considering one isn’t in good health at the moment. Wonderful place, good atmosphere and definitely the best Sunday dinner in the north east, very satisfied and pleased.
First visit but definitely not the last!
It was a real fantastic evening, great staff and the food was cracking. Highly recommended.
Thanks for a great evening
Excellent food, really nice venue. We will definitely be back. It’s not the cheapest but quality never is cheap!
Love the pub decor , and the combinations of the different foods ,and the pizza oven .
Such a lovely place to eat staff are so polite and friendly
Best sunday dinner ive had from a restaurant/pub in a LONG time! Staff were so friendly on the bar, and the waiting staff were very polite and pleasent. Will definitly recommend. Thank you c
Overall good. Food good, service slow but was a busy afternoon.
We booked for 8 people for Sunday lunch. The food was spot on, generous portions and cater for gluten free. The staff were great, really helpful. Only one blip. When we arrived there were queues to park so we were 14 minutes late. The table we booked was given away so we had to wait 20 minutes for another. Having said that, the staff were lovely and got us sorted asap and we were given complementary garlic breads. Sunday's seem extremely busy and the staff were rushed off their feet and yet they were all so helpful and food came promptly and was delicious. I would definitely recommend.
Excellent Venue, great atmosphere, great choice of food on menu, food quality excellent with very helpful and pleasant staff
Have eaten here several times and never had a bad meal or bad service. We had starters and mains and 4 out of 6 were disappointing, tasting different to previous visits and some bits not cooked enough
First time we have been for many years. Vastly improved look and feel and felt comfortable straight away. It was busy so a little bit of a wait but not bad and food good although doubt if I got what I was told I was getting! I asked what was the curry of the day and was told Rogan Josh and ordered that but it didn't look like Rogan Josh to me although still very nice. The one down side is the price of wine. We had two medium whites and two small reds and I haven't paid those prices in Hotels never mind a country pub.
We will probably visit again but stay off the wine.
Great food and service, lovely atmosphere
Good service Good food good environment. Took friends who hadn't been and they were highly impressed with the quality of food. We have dined there a lot of times but this was our first Sunday lunch and certainly won't be the last!
THE best Sunday dinner I have ever tasted. Really lovely friendly staff aswell and a beautiful place. Can’t wait to go back already!
We visited for the first time for Sunday lunch over the bank holiday weekend. The food, service and ambience were perfect. As a vegetarian with a family of meat eaters we were all really happy with our lunch. I especially enjoyed the nut roast. Staff were really friendly and polite. We will be back!
Cask beer was served warm. Not good! The food was delicious. Lovely serving staff.
A beautiful place staff very welcoming and the food gorgeous
Great food and service very friendly staff, been many times always a lovely experience
We visited the Woodman's Arms for our wedding anniversary as we'd heard good things about it. My husband had the award winning fish and chips and he enjoyed it very much. I had the sea bass and it was lovely. The portions were generous and good value for money. It's nicely decorated and the staff were friendly and helpful. Thanks for a pleasant evening.
First time we have been for years but we were told how good it was so decided to try it. Had a lovely meal in a lovely setting ,really like the way it has been transformed so different, love the outdoor seating area so pretty ,will be going again .
Arrived to be met by a waitress whose first words were “before you get stuck into menu I’ll tell you what we don’t have”..........then basically everything, and as it was only a limited Sunday lunch menu anyway and not full menu too, we left to go somewhere that offered a full range...... very disappointing.
Amazing venue, fantastic food and fabulous service.
Absolutely worth a visit!
Love The Woodmans, food is beautiful, service fantastic, staff extremely helpful and accommodating. a lovely pub to visit ❤️
Fantastic food and super service.
Excellent food, generous portions, good service and great value for money.
First experience of Sunday Lunch and it is well recommended. We all really enjoyed our meals with plenty of meat served and plentiful vegetables. Looking forward to returning and sampling the midweek menu.
Wouldn't hesitate in going back would have given 5 stars but they made a small mistake with our order. Put rigbt immediately though
Third meal here and the last being for my birthday; couldn't have been better in all aspects and now looking forward to trying a sunday lunch!
Long wait between starter and main. Parsnips raw and yorkshires burnt. No atmosphere. Friendly staff. Wouldn't revisit
Amazing food and service as always. best Sunday roast I have had for a long time.
Having been to woodmans on many occasions and been very happy with food and service, we ve been disappointed last twice visited, on 11th , meals and side dishes didn’t arrive together had to ask for them.
No mint sauce for lamb !!!!!
No vanilla ice cream !!!!
A little expensive but lovely food and the staff were very attentive, will be back
Very good food and service - the only thing we didn’t like was the over-loud pop/chart music which was quite annoying and detracted from the overall experience
