The Woodmans Arms
We are the proud winner of the Newcastle Chronicle’s Eddy Eats’ pub of the year for character, quality, service and value. UK top 3 in the Seafish National Fish and Chip awards 2019 and Diners’ choice award for best ambience.
We support our local farmers, and work closely with a number of local suppliers to ensure the very best fresh produce. All our food is cooked freshly to order so whether it be a bar snack, light bite, leisurely lunch, evening meal or Sunday Roast it is safe to say that you will in safe hands.
We went here on Sunday 19th for Sunday lunch and I must say first impressions were excellent.
We were seated within seconds of arriving, orders taken very quickly.
There was 8 of us eating, the food arrived apart from my lunch - I did tell one of the staff and 10 mins later I was still waiting, she then chased this again and it promptly arrived along with new hot fresh veg - this was then taken off my bill without me even having to suggest this and staff full of apologies - I am not stupid enough to not know these things happen but they put it right and I thoroughly enjoyed my meal.
The whole group said they will be back - thank you for a lovely meal.
Enjoyed a pleasant evening with good food and friendly service. Only minor inconvenience was being sat below a speaker playing tunes at a little high for my liking even though I did enjoy the songs being played 😉
2nd time here, lush atmosphere and unbelievable food. Again there was no pie left, will be back to attempt it again.
The food was really good service was excellent however the pub is still very draughty. We used to go regularly when our son was small and the pub was always cold and draughty then even though it has had a refurbishment where we were sat was cold and draughty. Saying that would still visit again but look for a warmer seat.
Went for Sunday lunch for a birthday, food was lovely, staff friendly. Would recommend booking a table.
Gorgeous Sunday dinner and great service staff. Really enjoyed it - lovely decor too!
Excellent Sunday dinner and great service. Highly recommend
Fantastic meal!! Quality Sunday Roast, I cannot fault the food or service.
My partner could not make the booking so for the restaurant to allow me to plate up and take a dinner away was great. He really enjoyed his dinner. Thoroughly enjoyed the experience again. I will be back to try the other menu and offers.
This was our first time at the wood mans arm, came highly recommended by family who regularly visit.
Can't say we were disappointed at all , from the views the helpful cheerful staff the fast and efficient service and most importantly the wonderful Sunday roasts we ordered myself the beef my partner the leg of lamb. All cooked and presented to our liking.
We will definitely be returning and passing on our recommendations to all our family and friends.
Fantastic Sunday lunch, very generous portions. Only slight downside was we felt they were trying to rush us at the end ( gave us the bill without us asking when we were still finishing drinks)
We go to Woodmans Arms semi regularly ans have never had a bad experience. The staff are always on point, food is always great no matter what day you go. To coin a phrase, I'll Be Back.
Had a lovely meal on Saturday. The food was excellent, something for everyone. Fantastic kids menu. The staff were approachable and friendly. Everyone in our party has said they will definitely be visiting again.
Cosy restaurant with log burners. Unfortunately no Guinness working but a lovely pale ale alternative. Service was good but could be better organised as we had 3 different waitresses ask us for drinks orders within 5 minutes. However we were well informed about waiting times for our food and staff were extremely pleasant. Overall a great meal and great restaurant I would highly recommend.
Amazing amazing amazing! A few of our friends recommended so we finally decided to try it out. We decided to go for Sunday lunch and and my word... best choice we ever made. It was delicious. The beef brisket melted in my mouth! 5star
Unreal food and amazing service. I would highly recommend the woodman arms to family and friends.
Lovely food lovely venue will definitely come back
attentative polite staff. Prompt service and hot delicious food, beautifully presented.
Took quite a while to get our drinks and they didn’t have the food we wanted, so we ordered something else, they didn’t have the sweet we ordered either.
Very disappointing waited 45 minutes for average luke warm meal one of our guests had steak pie which he couldn’t eat due to a lot of gristle in the meat
Won’t be back
This was my second visit but my husbands first. We both really enjoyed the food and thought the choice was good. I have a number of dietary requirements but found the menu easy to follow.
The prices and service were good too. We will be back again soon.
Unfortunately we didn't stay to eat as the majority of the main menu was unavailable although we had reservations.
Food service and atmosphere was amazing, just gutted there was no pies
Waited over an hour to get main courses. Once they arrived fish extremely greasy to point the grease was running of the plate. Presume there is also an issue with the heating as building was extremely cold. 3rd visit here and previous 2 been exceptional so will try again at some point in future.
A busy New Year's Day and a very busy pub but the service and the time for the order to be taken and the food served was great. Clearly everything was freshly cooked too.
great food, friendly and helpful staff and great ambience.
The staff couldn't have been nicer. The whole pub was beautifully decorated for Christmas and had a warm friendly atmosphere. Food was beautiful and service excellent. Will return and would recommend without hesitation.
Was our t visit time visiting The Woodman Arms and after after following them on social media for a while I looking forward to it. Had booked a table (which is advisable as they do get busy). We ordered quickly and starters arrived within a reasonable time. We opted for the sharing Camembert which was lovely - unfortunately this is were it all started to go wrong! We waited and waited for our mains - after waiting just under an hour we queried with a waiter who advised there was still a few orders before they would even start our mains!! It was at this point we cancelled and paid for the food we had eaten. Might be a good idea to let customers know if there is a lengthy wait on food before they order! There was a few other tables who were unhappy with the wait and I appreciate it was busy but if the kitchen can’t cope then maybe restrict how many people book at a particular time. Very disappointing
We dine at The Woodmans Arms often and enjoy our meal. However, at every visit we are advised of menu items that are not available. We would be grateful if this could be looked into. Surely, the stock levels could be checked against estimated customer numbers/numbers booked. When we were there just in last week, there was no Fish & Chips left which left very little choice for vegetarians.
In addition, despite dinning there 3 times in December, the festive menu was not available.
Could we also ask about condiments i.e. mango chutney/parmesan cheese - these are never available despite serving curry and pizza.
Easy online booking system, friendly and attentive service, good choice of food, and a nice ambience
Absolutely dissappointed. Service not the best, half the menu wasn't available, food took over an hour to come to table after I complained to 3 members of staff including the manager. Myself and my partner both had bad tummys the following morning. I'm sorry we won't be back and I won't be recommending this place to any of my friends or relatives.
Spur of the moment booking, my wife and I shared a Camembert starter which was beautiful but unbelievably filling, so much so I can’t really comment on my main as I was uncomfortably full, but had we not opted for the starter I’m sure we would have enjoyed the mains too, I barely touched mine.
Definitely worth a visit but be prepared for big portions.
Ps we had 2 x soft drinks, a starter & 2 x mains for £40 👍
The food was very bland. I was really looking forward to this meal however they had a small menu as it was Christmas! Not sure why though as they didn’t serve a carvery to run along side the small menu! The portion of chips was very small (7 in total) and the chicken dish I had didn’t mention the fact it came on the bone, my daughters burger was under cooked and tasteless as if it had been in the freezer. Very disappointed and I travelled fro. Durham to go there
Had a very enjoyable afternoon. Very good food and service from friendly staff. Loved the ambiance of the country style bar and restaurant areas, and appreciated the real effort that had been made with the Christmas decorations, turning the entrance way into a winter wonderland. Also enjoyed the log-burning fires and fine views from the restaurant. I will definitely be returning again, and would highly recommend The Woodmans Arms to anyone looking to visit a lovely country pub/restaurant.
Favourite pub but slightly let down today. Went early on Boxing Day and it was freezing .. had fires on but think they’d forgot to put the heating on. Did mention it to staff but no change noted. Service was good but Staff were all hanging about chatting and even sniggering at poor family whose kids were upset rather than helping. Hardly anyone in the restaurant when we got there but still took over 40 mins to get the food. Food was delicious as always tho! Busier and warmer by the time we left. Lovely Xmas decorations tho.
All was very nice. Order was slightly wrong but food was really lovely. Definitely going back soon.
Good choice friendly atmosphere. Like that you can book online.
Lunch on Christmas Eve with my girl and little fella food was nice and a very nice atmosphere
A lovely place to come for Christmas Eve lunch and Christmas decorations at entrance are fabulous. Food was really good although service a little slow. Only one portion of vegan dessert available and no alternative offered. Nevertheless, would definitely recommend.
Beautiful Christmas decor.
Calamari starter dried out otherwise rest of food acceptable.
Long wait for mains - over an hour. Kids finished their dessert when we were served main meal
Both kids and adults desserts served without spoons and had to find staff
Pricey but worth it as a treat
