The Woodmans Arms is a beautiful ‘country feel’ pub and dining room situated within the village of Whickham, at the top of the hill, hidden amongst rows of spectacular trees. We are more than just a venue, we are a destination worth travelling to serving classic comforting food made with love, served in cosy surroundings overlooking the most amazing views of the North East.

We are excited to welcome guests to sit back, relax and celebrate The Jubilee in the luxurious surroundings of our Aviary Lounge. We will be serving Afternoon Tea between 12pm and 5pm on Sunday 5th June. You can book for up to 6 guests for £25 per person. Beef was fatty and inedible. Pork may have been bought from the local shop? It definitely wasn’t off a joint. Potatoes weren’t cooked and therefore taken off the bill. No seasoning on the veg. Gravy arrived 5 minutes after everything else so we weren’t bothered. No chicken or mash - this should be told beforehand as we would have went elsewhere. Nowhere near what we had last time. Really disappointed. Maybe the chef was having a bad day?

Very busy restaurant with a very well trained staff who were friendly and efficient. The food was of fair standard- roast beef was quite tough. The meal was spoiled by music which was too loud - it was impossible to have a conversation with a small group of 4. Shame.

We enjoyed our starter of tempura prawns. The main course of ribs in sauces was disappointing for £16. The ribs were pieces of boneless, over-cooked fatty meat. The sauce was very rich and over-powering.

Lovely setting. Great atmosphere. Interesting decor. We were seated quickly to a large table in the bar area. It took quite a while for someone to take our drinks order, at which point we also ordered Sunday Roast Lunches. It took maybe 30-40 minutes for the food to arrive. Beef brisket was good. Lamb was way overcooked, dry, tough and ‘crusty’. The pork loin was also very dry and really quite tough. Overall the meat was only just warm enough - it went cold quickly. Vegetables are served in separate dishes and some (Cabbage with Pancetta) were very nice. Others though were way undercooked (broccoli) - very inconsistent.

Wanted to go for a long time, mid week so went with the social media popular Fish n Chips.... Very basic, Fish was very greasy and batter not crispy, chips were soggy and not hot, peas were tasteless. My partner had the Salmon, it was "OK". Service was very basic, 2nd drink took forever. Very disapointed with an experience I thought would be much better. On the plus side its a lovely place. May try again over a weekend, sorry but an honest review. I eat out alot and was really looking forward to this one 😣

Service was very slow and poor. Meal was nearly cold by the time sauces and extras were brought to the table. Either overbooked or understaffed. Rather worrying as my niece has a wedding booked here for October.

Customer service is not as good as it used to be. No one came to see if we were ok. A girl wanted to be in a cabinet behind me but instead of asking me to move for a minute she just shoved the door open until I said should I move. Could be great if the service was better

We originally could only get an outside table. Although outside looked really nice it wasn't the hottest of days. When we got there we enquired about an inside table. The staff were able to do this for us. Inside was just as nice as outside. The whole experience was great.

Wasn’t as nice as first time we visited. Waitress was miserable and zero customer service skills. Hardly any veg with Sunday lunches. Other tables had cauliflower cheese and carrots and we only had parsnips and greens. I ordered Eton Mess as I don’t like ice cream. It was basically a small glass full of ice cream with tiny bits of meringue in and two pieces of strawberry with cream on top. When I told waitress I wasn’t happy with the pudding she said that is how they make it there and I still had to pay for it. Also I paid £6.95 for ice cream sundae’s for kids from adults menu. These were in tiny glasses and not worth it. Last visit they were in big Sunday glasses. Wasn’t worth the visit and don’t think we will go back

Food was excellent apart from the Mac and cheese which had a odd taste and smell. The blue cheese pie was amazing I would of liked more mushy peas. Pizza and burgers very good. Duck scotch egg was brilliant. Soup of the day very nice. Service was very good. We were sat next to a noisy table, i wasn’t too bothered by this but may have been too loud for some. All in all 4.5/5. Would definitely recommend and return.

What a great venue, well decorated, warm and welcoming. Nice to be greeted at the door by a man who introduced himself as Simon who explained everything to us in regards to service and how we were going to be looked after, which we were extremely well, service is probably the best i have encountered as nothing was to much trouble and we were made to feel very comfortable and welcome. Drinks arrived quickly after ordering and the food was amazing and well presented we were not rushed and enjoyed our time here, we were bid a nice farewell on leaving again being asked if we had enjoyed our stay. Will be coming back very soon, thank you to everyone who made our visit so good.
