We sat outside, and the ambiance is so charming! The food was great (definitely order the mozzarella sticks), and the service was prompt and attentive
Horrible experience! Three out of six meals were so salty. Nothing came out at the same times. We had to wait 20 minutes for other entrees to come out for the rest of the party. No bread It they did give us the oil for the bread. Service was horrendous and just utter chaos.
The outside seating in the alley is wonderful. The staff works so hard and quite friendly. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.
Really really good food. Love the cold salads, garlic bread, eggplant parm. Been here three times and it’s my kind of old style Italian joint that I use to find in NYC little Italy decades ago. In April I had the Spaghetti Bolognese, garlic bread and a couple of Peroni’s. Simple yet great!
Made a reservation for outdoor seating however we were seated inside, ended up being ok though. The ambiance is very cute. Service was good, no complaints. The food was excellent, garlic bread, gnocchi, chicken broccoli ziti, and pasta alla vodka were all delicious. Highlight were the meatballs and the house made limoncello! House wine was also wonderful. Great experience overall, would highly recommend for someone looking for a casual Italian place in Boston
Great service, delicious food. Nice, casual atmosphere
Good Italian American food. If it's sunny, try to seat outside.
Service was a little slow, but we weren’t in a hurry and the server was very friendly. Great overall experience.
Young server was horrible, understanding to find out it was just first day but we had to ask for more water three times. We sat at our table alone for about 15 minutes until one person in our party asked the young boy if we were finally going to get served in which he replied “oh yeah sorry”. Our aranchini came out frozen in the middle twice and we finally just asked for the server to take it away.
We arrived early for our reservation as google indicated the restaurant was open. A nice man named Connor said they would open at 5 pm. We asked for suggestion for an appetizer and he did not steer us wrong! Alcove nearby was exactly what we were looking for.
We arrived for our reservation and were promptly seated. Having just had appetizers at Alcove, we opted for the garlic bread only. Wow! What a great choice! Their garlic bread paired with the dipping sauce (tomato-based) was the perfect match!
For entrees, we chose spaghetti and meatballs (excellent) and shrimp scampi (the best I've ever tasted). This is a hidden gem and we will visit again when we are next in Boston!
Do yourself a favor and try this excellent restaurant!
The only reason why I didn't give this 5 stars is because they ran out of bread before we got there. We love to soak up the extra sauce, which was spectacular, or eat it with our salads and there was none. But the vodka sauce and the bolognese was very delicious! A very small but super quaint space, like you're at a family party. I would send my friends here if I know they'll be in the North End. Away from the crazy traffic of the main North End drag, this was a gem.
We chose Tony’s and Elaine’s because the ads promised huge portions of traditional Italian fare. The portions were actually on the smallish side. We were upstairs and it wasn’t terribly “Italian.” It was sort of nothing. Our waitress was nice but busy and distracted. I’ll stick to Hanover/Salem Street for the street ambiance at least.
Repeat meal for me and my daughter. The food is outstanding. They ran out of Diet Coke (my favorite) but that will never sway my love for Tony and Elaine’s!
Always amazing food and service. Can’t wait to go back again!
We enjoyed our dinner choices and service but it was a hot and humid day and it turned out their air conditioning was not functioning. It was very stuffy and sticky in the ground floor dining room, with no fan or air circulation -nor even an acknowledgement of the situation or apology. Overall, good basic Italian cuisine but not as pleasant as it could have been.
Tony & Elaine’s is a very quaint restaurant with excellent service and food. My husband and I had the baked gnocchi and chicken parm. Both were to die for!
Excellent old school Italian
A great meal as per usual
Wonderful restaurant with great food! You could tell that all of the food was made to order and the pasta was made there. The meatballs were fantastic. Inside there were about 7 tables, very small. There is an outdoor seating area that is not covered. Definitely recommend reservations any time that you plan to go. Definitely go to this restaurant!!
Good service. Friendly waiter. Ambiance nice. Proportions good. Chicken parm too dry. Eggplant parm good.
Located just outside the immediate North End, Hanover, Salem street area. 3 minute walk. Casual dress for sure. Hot spot for people going to the Boston Garden for a game. Small space (as most North End restaurants) with two levels. We were seated in the basement level which is cute and cozy. (It has an exit door within feet of all tables) Red & white plastic table clothes and bottles of Chianti line the brick walls while 80's music plays, cute retro feel. Our table was right next to the servers station so we asked to change and they happily obliged and gave us a cozy, corner table. We started by sharing a Caesar salad which was excellent and HUGE! Easily shared. Then we each had what we came for, their spaghetti and meatballs which is fantastic! We've lived in the NE for 4 years now and it's the best around. There's a reason they won the meatball contest at the festival! Their prices are very reasonable. Shout out to our great waiter Connor too. We never waited for service, he poured our wine when the glasses were low, and made sure we had all we needed but was never hovering. Great place.
The good….meatballs are fantastic and a must try. Pasta dishes are very good and the service is also fantastic. Prices are reasonable. Detractors….it is really cramped, even by North End standards. The portions are small because the tables are not large enough for a plate of any significant size. Even getting in and out of the restaurant is via a steep set of stairs. The location is not in the quant part of the North End. Overall it is good and some aspects very good, but with all of the choices in the North End, this is middle
The food was terrible! This was our second time going, the first time everything was perfect! This time, the chicken was so clearly reheated…absolute rubber!
Our group of 7 ate outdoors. Food was terrific! Service was very good, despite our being a larger group. This was the first time any of us dined at Tony & Elaine’s. Would definitely go back.
Had a great time at Tony and Elaine’s! Good value for delicious food and a fun ambiance. Our server was fantastic.
Amazing character in this small North End spot. If your looking for a smaller casual spot than the others this is it. Not a lot of tables, get a reservation. Food & ambiance 10/10.
Surprisingly good food. Was afraid it may be a bit of a tourist trap. It was legit good food. Friendly and accommodating staff. I will go back.
Super delicious old-school Italian food. Casual place with feel good vibes. Great for friends or family to get a good solid meal. All pastas made fresh daily. The meat sauces are delicious and so is the homemade limoncello!
Solidly prepared and tasty food, including house salad, calamari, Bolognese, and eggplant parm. We sat outside in the charming parking lot set up because of COVID.
Chicken Parm was great, as well as the meatballs! Also, on Thursday’s they have a great date night special for 2.
Great atmosphere and the food was the perfect accompaniment to it!
The only thing positive was the ambience of outdoor seating. The waiter after we asked for bread forgot and never brought us bread. We asked another hostess and she said she will be right back with bread and never did. My spaghetti was cold I think it was sitting out and the meatballs were not cooked through pinch in the middle. When I asked the waiter to split the check he said you can just cross out your amount and figure it out. It was not a very friendly or service oriented atmosphere. For the price you are paying it should be much better.
Loved this neighborhood institution. The basics done right. Actually, the basics done spectacularly well.
We decided to come to Tony and Elaine’s in spite of the fact that there were a hundred or so Italian Restaurants in the North End. We were drawn to the written description of the casual atmosphere of an Italian restaurant of the 50s. At first, entering a dark, rather run down building and being shown to a downstairs room, I was wondering what we had gotten ourselves in to. However, we were more than pleasantly surprised by the quality of food, the service from our excellent waitress, and the casual/neighborhood feel of the restaurant. We Would definitely come back.
Our first visit to Tony and Elaines was terrific. It was a relaxed setting with traditional Italian dishes that were super tasty. They had a nice variety including a shared 4-course option that they call "Cheap Date" and a good wine list. The service was outstanding. It is on the edge of the North End with indoor and outdoor seating. Great location. We will definitely be back.
The midweek “Cheap Date” special was great and a really great value. The food was amazing and although a bit noisy from Washington Street traffic, the outdoor dining was quaint and cozy.
Great food. Lasagna had a soulful sauce that included chunks of braised short ribs.
Excellent apps & desserts.
Service was spot on; every employee paid attention to the details.
Excellent food and service. It was our first time here and we enjoyed it very much. Highy recommended.
Great place to eat but limited in terms of alcohol because it does not have a bar.
