Friendly service and great food. We went for Sunday lunch and everything was amazing, especially the cauliflower cheese, so we ordered a second one!
We had a very nice meal. Place was crowded and noisy but that was to be expected this time of year. Service was wonderful and food was lovely
Love this little place - Best roast dinner in Woodford. It is bright and spacious and the food is delicious. The cauliflour cheese is naughty, but very nice. Thank you team.
Great restaurant staff are very good, the only moan was they need to work on there roast potatoes
Not our first trip to the revamped Travellers Friend. It was an un-busy Wednesday lunchtime and only two other tables were occupied. The lunch menu is a stripped down gastro-pub affair but everything on it is a winner in my book. Despite the lack of customers the service was a bit hit and miss but thoroughly polite and charming nonetheless. The food is first-rate, especially the fish on offer when we visited. A big lunch for 3 of us cost £60 plus the tip, which is good value considering the quality of the food and the comfort of the smart dining room.
Sunday roast was great although service was a little slow, felt like they needed one more member of staff
The only reason I would not recommend to a Friend because of the Service the staff they have are lovely but there are not enough staff to cater for the clients we wait along time for drinks etc, they would ask if we needed anything and when we said we wanted extra things like fork glass salt & pepper etc we had to keep asking other wise the food was nice and the atmosphere was friendly
A great decent local with decent food and wine and good service - what more could you ask for on your doorstep
Lovely restaurant with great service and lovely food.
This was the first time we had eaten at The Travellers Friend having only popped in for a drink previously and we were all so impressed. Warm, friendly service and a great uptempo atmosphere. Big portions of excellent roast dinners with delicious side dishes including red cabbage, cauliflower cheese and freshly steamed green veg. Only marked down slightly for the roast potatoes which were not quite as crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside as I like them, but all in all a big hit. Thank you!
We were advised on arrival that they were very busy & that we might have to wait 15-20 minutes for our table. In fact we only waited 10 minutes. We were however astounded to be told by a waitress after only 35 minutes at our table that it was needed as they were so busy. We were totally astounded and were just conveying that to the waitress when the manager came over & said that she couldn't ask us to vacate as we'd not been there long. It was a bit of a shambles though. The food was good, but other people were having long waits for tables that they'd booked. Not sure how we feel about going back again.
Decent roast very large kids’ meals, lovely desserts especially the creme brûlée, exceptional service, waitresses really on the ball
It’s a lovely pub with an even better restaurant at the back. Very lively with lovely staff and good food.
Slightly restricted on the food choices but perfectly acceptable.
Nice wine selection too.
Makes for a good time out as it’s got a great ambience.
Sunday lunch really nice. Had a table for 5:30- only issue was service was a little slow and the food was all luke warm. I requested more gravy which also arrived not as hot as it should be. This is a shame as the quality of the roast dinner is lovely
Excellent ambience and service.
Food in the main very good although the pork wasn’t the best I’ve had at Sunday lunch. The beef apparently was amazing!
Starters pricey and small.
We eat here quite a lot. There's been an change of management recently but the food is still excellent. We dined on a Saturday and its was unusually quiet (indeed almost empty by 9.30pm). Someone has taken down all the decent artwork too. The bar is still very much a "locals" hangout which might be keeping the more casual punters away. You have to run a gauntlet of local and regulars to get to the restaurant who "size you up" as you walk through the door; some people will find that intimidating. As I say, the food is first rate and the service is good (if a little forgetful).
A Saturday brunch with friends - lovely decor, good food, especially the house pie.
Lovely new restaurant.. good food..Sunday dinner for the family.. we all enjoyed .. will definitely be returning
Service was excellent, really welcoming and friendly
Restaurant was cold and pretty empty
Food was ok but overpriced for what is was and location
It was the first time we had gone and we wouldn't go back and wouldn't recommend to friends as too expensive
Delicious food, family friendly and very efficient service. Definitely recommend and looking forward to returning.
Always have a lovely time when we go to The travellers
It's great at Spivs and the dining area is comfortable and stylish. The food could have been hotter, better cooked (the lamb rump) and served quicker but we had a really nice dinner.
There really is no excuse for tepid bread and butter pudding when the dining area isn't busy.
Previously been here on 2 occassions and it was amazing. Unfortunately this time I can not say the same.
The food was not of the same standard and neither was the service.
Such a shame as previously I’ve raved about the food to friends. Hopefully it was jut an off day.
Been to the pub a couple of times, but never eaten here. The Sunday lunch was really good. Portion sizes generous, good accompanying veg and friendly and helpful service. Good wines available too. We shall return!
First time we've eaten here. It was a special occasion, Birthday, and we had no regrets. Very friendly staff, good extensive menu with meals cooked to perfection. Would have no hesitation in recommending.
Food and service were excellent. Only downside was the awful smell of chip fat
The restaurant looks amzing however the service and food quality was pretty poor.
Neither my boyfriend or I are picky but we had to send 2 dishes back.
The mac and cheese was really cold in the middle and the oil was off. They also forgot parts of our order (there were only 2 of us). It was a pretty frustrating meal
We had a Sunday Roast here on Sunday 19th August at 5.30pm and to say we were disappointed was an understatement. To start there was no mention that the aircon wasn't working and it was honestly like sitting in a greenhouse it was ridiculously uncomfortable. The food was average, not anything I would rave about. As we were trying to finish off our roasts we were swarmed by about 6 flies that would not leave us alone which in the end put me off of my food! When we asked to be moved outside so we could finish our drinks and have dessert we were greeted with an attitude from the waitresses. Then upon sitting outside we were forced to pay for our meal and re-order more drinks and desserts. It just seems as though we were being rushed out the door which isn't a pleasant dining experience.
Staff attentive, food ok, although my duck was a little overdone. Suggest they add a couple of salad options to the menu.
I would definitely go back but only if looking for the usual pub food.
Although the food is good I believe it is slightly overpriced for the standard served. Also the Service is a bit hit and miss with quite a few waitresses just standing around.
Having said that the food was of a pretty good standard and I like the feel and ambience of the Restaurant , with a few improvements I think this could be really good and I will definitely return to see how it's going in the future
excellent been recommend by a few friends thought I would try it and was not disappointed food excellent atmosphere great well worth going to .
Good roast dinner and good service. Pleasant surroundings.
Booked a table for Sunday lunch as a birthday celebration for my mother-in-law (92yrs old).
I remember the old pub and I have to say that the new owners have done a great job and appear to have balanced the old and the new really well.
Really welcoming atmosphere from both the bar and restaurant staff. The restaurant is really well set out with plenty of space between tables. It is refreshing to see a restaurant not sacrificing space for the sake of a few extra covers !
The service was extremely good.
The food ( Sunday roast) was ok - probably slightly above average( the puddings were especially disappointing). The only other negative point was that no mention was made by the staff of the fact that it it was a special occasion which was a shame. A small point but one which might have made our visit even more personal
Despite this we all enjoyed the visit and I will be more than happy to visit again - perhaps to try the a la carte menu.
My two friends and I enjoyed a very nice meal, and also real ale during our visit. The service was very good, and when we made an observation on the salt that was sprinkled over the Fish and chips which was a little heavy for one diners palate we were offered a free round of drinks, how nice that feedback was taken in such a positive way. If I were to make any other observation it would be that the very nice piece of Plaice which I enjoyed had rather to much butter with it.
Food was well cooked and plentiful. Menu isn't huge but something to please most, mainly steak and burgers. The veggie burger was delicious.
Third time at the restaurant and it always delivers. Very good food and friendly service. Nice atmosphere.
A very enjoyable experience that we look forward to repeating. Lovely to have an independent pub restaurant locally serving good food.
They really have transformed this old pub to the unrecognisable. Looks great, really enjoyed the food - both the meat eaters and the vegan, and very friendly service. We'll be back soon!
Restaurant was good, but the bar very cramped, noisy and very expensive.
On two separate occasions was harassed by very drunk men, spoilt the whole evening.
lovely food, lovely staff and lovely, relaxed atmosphere.
