Enjoyable dinner. Good food, good service and good atmosphere.
Best dining experience of my life. Chef Jon Cropf is a master of his craft, each course just as amazing as the last. The grits were life changing. Highly recommend the Mercy of the Chef with tasting menu. Sommelier Nicole is so knowledgeable and professional. The wait staff was attentive and the entire experience was sublime. ❤️❤️❤️
I’ve known about Trummer’s on Main for many years but never made it there until this past Saturday for dinner. We and another couple were celebrating our 50th and 48th anniversaries and Trummer’s was the perfect choice. I had noted our anniversaries in making the reservation and had requested a nice table not near any large groups. We were seared at a table in a lovely small room (6 or 8 tables total, as opposed to the much larger main dining room) in front of old fireplace. The hostess who told us she been with Trummer’s for many years and who walked us upstairs and seated us was entirely engaging, and warm and had a wonderful sense of humor. The serving staff was charming, attentive but not intrusive. Our appetizers soup, salad ((salted beets) were winners as was the cornbread brought to the table. The entrees (salmon, sea bass,
2 halibuts) were superbly prepared and beautifully presented, Each couple shared a trio of sorbets, great flavors for a great finish. At the end the server brought to the table for each couple a plate with Happy Anniversary written with chocolate and 2 really yummy chocolate truffles with liquid centers. Really a wonderful dining experience for a wonderful occasion.
Bonus: Trummer’s is in Clifton VA, a quaint very little town in Fairfax County. Since the parking lot was full we wound up parking on the street several blocks away from the restaurant. That gave us the unexpected pleasure of walking past the many restored historic homes or buildings marked with signs showing what they were used for in the yesteryear.
Great service, excellent and creative dishes at a good value. The main dining room was a little loud but we Love Trummer’s.
We have been to Trummers many times and they are usually fantastic. This day must have been an off day. Waited a bit too long to get our 2nd round of drinks, and they brought my Fiance the wrong dinner (he ended up eating it and we didnt mention it to the waitress as he did not want to make a scene). I little disappointing as we were celebrating his birthday.
Place has really great ambiance, with some really great drinks but probably way over priced. Food was ok truffle fries rocked however took about an hour to get main meal. Would go back but only to eat/drink at bar.
We went to Trummer’s for our first wedding anniversary. We visited them for dinner on our wedding night, and we decided to return to celebrate our first anniversary. Just as we remembered, the service was impeccable. The host greeted us when we entered and immediately acknowledged our anniversary. Then, once we met our server and he acknowledged my note in my reservation about being vegan. There were no vegan entrees listed on the menu, but he said the chef would create some options for me. The options were perfect! I had a delicious watermelon salad to start and then had farro with vegetables which was also very good. On our wedding night, another guest in the restaurant ordered Titanics for our cocktails and we ordered those again. We loved them just as much. Everyone we encountered was polite and friendly, and Trummer’s on Main remains one of our favorite places.
As always, a wonderful experience. Brought my friend from Texas with me to show her why I love this place. We all loved our cocktails, meals and deserts. Flawless service. And they made our 8 year old son feel like a VIP.
One of my favorite places to eat any meal. Never disappointed.
Great food, nice ambiance, good value. Staff was attentive and pleasant. Highly recommend.
We always enjoy Trummer’s! Can’t beat the beignets. Yum!
Friendly service, great drinks. My Boil was not great - over cooked - timing is everything.
Everything we ordered was outstanding, the food was fresh and innovative and the service was outstanding.
Celebrated our 33rd Anniversary and loved everything. The shrimp and grits were not on the menu and the Chef created one just for me!
Had our anniversary dinner there. Service and food were fantastic but not stuffy. Enjoyed our chef surprises too.
Dinner date with my wife. I had the flank steak and she had halibut. Great flavors, ingredients were fresh and cooked properly. The food was presented beautifully but the protein portions were already cooling and not warm, taking away from the enjoyment of the meal. Still, we enjoy Trummer’s and will return soon. Nice to have a great restaurant close to us.
Very friendly and accommodating service! Vegetables are given as much love as the meats and fish, which highlights the seasonality of the area.
The food was excellent and beautifully served. Our server was Outstanding!!
Excellent food and prompt service was our experience. A lovely restaurant with a very imaginative chef. We thought the value was very good for the meal we received.
Larry was fantastic!
Excellent tasting menu and wine pairing!
First timers- chose chef’s mercy - 5 course w/wine
Cocktails were appropriate for season. The Titanic and pleasure/pain. Titanic was right balance of sweet and crisp. Not too sweet. Pleasure and pain wasn’t too spicy. Server offered to make more spicy, declined.
Upon ordering asked for no fois gras and chefs compliments came with fois gras.
Server Cindy made up for it w/truffle fries on the house.
First server couldn’t pronounce dishes and struggled w/explanations.
Napkins should be lint free. Also swap out dirty napkin with fresh when available
Bread was amazing, both ancient grain one and gluten free.
First dish, summer squash salad excellent/fresh.
Second dish- sous server didn’t know what was in it. If servers are going to present chef’s meal, should be able to explain.
Was told mushrooms were In it and clearly it was eggplant.
Sous server needed to wash hands/dirty appearance when presenting food.
Third and fourth dish could have used more Salt/Season to coax out the flavor a little more.
Purse holder for the table needed
Over all server was excellent, but helpers were confused. Kept bringing random food to table and took clean wine glass
Chef accommodating gluten free was excellent!!
Dessert was highlighting oranges and carrot cake which is hard to do, but chef did an outstanding job with two different presentations.
Overall awesome dining experience and a great place. I wanted to clarify that my lower score on service was not due to our server - he and his team were phenomenal. However, when we arrived, we were told there was a short wait for our table, so we decided to grab a drink at the bar. There only 5 or 6 people at the bar and it took almost 20 minutes to get a drink. There were 2 bartenders - one was working and the other was being pretty nonchalant.
We WILL go back, but this was just something that bugged us. Also, the S'mores were awesome, so save room!
This was our first visit at Trummer's, after living in the area for 7 years, so we've been missing out. Mr Trummer seated us on the outdoor patio (weather is still cool enough) and Larry was our server. We enjoyed apps/salads, salmon, poached Halibut, and two desserts. We will definitely return.
Everything is thoughtfully addressed: drinks, service, food. They have never disappointed me; they have delighted me each visit.
Trummer's is a very fine restaurant with a great wine list and good food
Nice place, quiet and clean. The service was fantastic and the food was very good.
I can't say enough wonderful remarks about Trummer's On Main. My husband and I made reservations for our anniversary, and we had an exceptional experience. Our server (Larry) was excellent. He gave a gastronomical walk through of each course as it came out, letting us know the care that went into every aspect of the meal. The owner, Stefan, checked in with us to make sure we were having a perfect evening. He regaled us with the history and cuisine of his native Austria and helped introduce us to wines from his homeland. We even received a special glass of champagne and chocolates in recognition of our special occasion. We could not have had a more perfect night, and we can't wait for our next visit.
We dined at Trummer's on Tuesday, 6/11. It was a pretty frustrating experience. We've been there multiple times and decided to go to celebrate a special occasion for our family. We had a group of five. Our server was pleasant but we spent the evening waiting. We waited, waited, and then waited some more for our appetizers and entrees - especially our entrees. We asked about them multiple times and each time we were told they were coming "shortly". No one apologized, no one came by to explain what was going on, but each time we asked we were just told they were coming "shortly". Newsflash - if a table has to wait more than 50 minutes for entrees with no explanation about what is going on SOMEONE should check in with them or apologize, not just give the same rote answer over and over. Apparently "shortly" doesn't mean the same thing to Trummer's that it does to me. We FINALLY got our entrees and they weren't even all hot. I saw someone in a suit walking around and assumed it was the manager, but he didn't come by our table to say anything. I wanted to give up on dessert but we had one person who really wanted the s'mores. A disappointing experience, not at all worth the money. Save the frustration and dining dollars and choose somewhere else.
I usually don't write bad reviews after dinning out but there's a first for everything. My wife and I, with our two young daughters were at Trummer's celebrating my wife's birthday on a Tuesday night . The tea was awesome, service was OK, and the Titanic cocktail was good. Now the bad part. It took 20 minutes to take our order and over 1 hour since we were seated for one appetizer and the truffle fries to come out. We didn't get our main courses until about another 40 minutes later. The food was nothing special and worst of all, arrived cold. We hurried up and finish our meal and left. We were so disappointed since it was my wife's birthday and we've been looking forward to trying this place out. Its left a bad taste in my mouth, even until now, so I have to spit it out.
They always make our Anniversary or Birthdays a special occasion, that’s what make us repeat customers. We also take advantage when Trummers has Restaurant week twice a year. The wine tastings are fabulous if you want to try wines or sparklings from Austria 🇦🇹 or others they offer. The wait staff has been trained to make the customer feel they are the only ones in the restaurant and describe the menu to a tee.
Happy and very satisfied customers
Just fabulous! Ordered the “Mercy of the Chef” tasting menu + the wine pairing again after first being impressed by it 10 weeks ago (our first visit). Completely different dishes from the prior visit and a superb complement of wine tastings. Stefan (the owner) was an attentive host and Nicole the sommelier has an incredible recollection to describe all the wines and detail of their home regions. We’ve been incredibly fortunate to dine in some of the very best restaurants across the globe, this one is becoming our favorite local! We’re blessed to have this place within 30 minutes drive of home. My only concern is that it will become a challenge to make a reservation when Michelin discovers this place!!
Celebrated nephew’s graduation with chef’s tasting menu and wine pairing. Every course was special and delicious. Service was impeccable. Can’t wait for the next special occasion.
We chose it as a special place to celebrate our wedding anniversary. It did not disappoint. Perfect evening out.
Outstanding service matched only by the superb quality of the food in a very comfortable and inviting atmosphere; what more could one ask for?
Delicious food and beautiful atmosphere as usual; unfortunately we were the last reservation for brunch and I couldn’t help but feel our server was rushing us to leave.
Trummers on Main has an excellent selection of brunch fare and drinks. The staff are courteous and attentive. The flavors and presentation are outstanding. The general ambiance is outstanding. I highly recommend Trummers on Main - for brunch. I am looking forward to their dinner and lunch fare with very high expectations based on our brunch experience.
Excellent service in a beautiful, historic location. Food was good but not great. Parking is difficult. Overall, would recommend for a nice, romantic dinner.
