Twenty, Princes Street, Grill & Smokehouse
Had a lovely meal for friends joint 60th but also their 40th wedding anniversary. The service and food was excellent and our server was extremely courteous
Scallops as a starter were cold and the main course burger was inedible - dry, over cooked and like cardboard. Sent it back. To be fair they didn’t charge us for the burger that said going home hungry wasn’t ideal.
Extremely disappointed. Went in for breakfast as wanted to experience Burns Benedict but did not justify paying £16.95 for it!!! Didn’t want to have breakfast buffet too. Maybe should cater for those wanting a simple breakfast and not a feast!
Highly recommended fine dining on Princes Street. We had great dinner this time, but can also recommend a window seat overlooking the gardens and castle (if you can get it) for a sunny Sunday lunch!
It is my favourite eating house in Edinburgh having first discovered it 4 years ago through my daughter who is in the hospitality industry.
Everytime we visit Edinburgh from highland Scotland it's my choice of restaurant. I have recommended it to several people.
The food is excellent and the staff are well trained, polite and friendly. We love it !!
Very nice lunch! Beautiful dining room. Service good. Had read reviews about restaurant being cold but we found it warm and comfortable.
Would definitely go back !
Service was very good, our seating position was very draughty and cold and the food was awful! Having dined several times at Twenty my expectations were high of receiving a well prepared meal, however, the overpriced brioche with haggis and black pudding was mediocre at best, the mac n cheese was watery, tasteless and barely warm, the risottos were bland, tasteless and, thankfully for my friends, very small portions, the burgers were dry and tasteless overall we spent a lot of money on what was a terrible meal which was only saved by the professional and friendly staff! Disappointed to be giving such a bad review but hopefully the constructive criticism might serve to help you bring the restaurant back to the wonderful place it once was!
Food was excellent the service was top class really relaxed atmosphere will definitely return
I cannot fault this restaurant for its overall customer service, and qualiy of food. Myself and my Fiance visited the restaurant on Saturday the 22nd.
Due to poor weather we were running late and had to change our booking time. The restaurant were very accomodating and it was no problen to reschedule for a little later in the evening.
The setting, atmosphere, food and the staff make this an excellent place to go. Cant recommend highly enough.
Good value for money, tasty food and wine! Excellent service.
Disappointing visit. Food was cold and waiting staff unfriendly and brusque. Not a great atmosphere and too expensive .
Great restaurant in the middle of the city
I’m torn how to review this restaurant. The staff were lovely but seemed flummoxed by our breakfast booking. The food was nice but the menu was very confusing. The menu states that for £16.95 you get the breakfast table and your choice of hot breakfast but the staff won’t support that. Us asking for a glass of fresh orange seemed to be an odd request. The view was great but we spent our time feeling unwelcome and uncomfortable. Maybe breakfast time is just meant for guests but that should be made clearer.
Went for family birthday. It was Monday night so quiet. It was quite cool and older family members really felt the draft.
The service is well above average. Food is of high quality. We were a party of 8 and unfortunately a main course and a side order was missed and came late to the table (after the rest had finished). The wine list is super but you will pay for this..
Saying all this I would go back. The quality of the food, setting, ambience and service would make it a special date for the future.
The food was lovely however upon entry we felt very awkward as the bar staff gawped at us as if they were closed.
We’d had drinks prior to coming for dinner and as such we just wanted soft drinks however it felt as though we were rude for not buying drinks by the way in which the waiter behaved.
The steak was amazing and comes with a complimentary sauce pot to lather your meal in which was a nice touch, it also came to the table remarkably quick. The chips were also lovely however the salad tasted and looked like it was just a handful of greens taken from a salad bag from a supermarket.
When we were ready to pay and leave it felt like I was on Takeshi’s castle, waiters are running around in different coloured uniforms and sprinting past you so fast you don’t get a chance to say anything, all you can do is stare them dead in the eye and pray they notice you.
The food is great as is the speed however the service is very average and almost feels like a fast food restaurant, so it depends what you’re after really, but personally I wouldn’t scream and shout about this place.
This was our first Valentine’s Day. And also our first trip to Edinburgh. We arrived early hoping to have a drink in the bar before. Instead we were rushed to the table and before we’d even had chance to take our coats off (which weren’t taken from us) and even sit down, the specials were read out at us giving us no time to digest them. Then finally our order was taken, drinks brought 5 mins apart (only 2 of us). Food came, ordered a medium steak and it was the most well done, driest piece of meat I’ve ever eaten, food came and was thrown on the table and the waitress ran away before we’d had time to ask for condiments and sauces. We weren’t asked how the food was and sat with empty glasses for 20 mins until the waiter came and instead of asking if we wanted another round of drinks, Took our plates away, by this point we skipped dessert and asked for the bill. A very disappointing experience, they could’ve easily had another 2 rounds of drinks and dessert from us but it felt like they didn’t want us to be there. We couldn’t wait to get out in the end, would not recommend to anyone unless you enjoy average food and below average service. Waste of £60 and would’ve had better service in a 2-4-1 pub. 2/10!
Very much enjoyed our lunch and very nice surroundings.
Thomas was the perfect waiter and host. Always a pleasure to dine at twenty but the services makes it extra special. Thank you
an attractive and unusual room, good food and attentive waiting staff
Beautiful ambiance, gorgeous dining hall with stunning pictures of Scotland. A nice atmosphere! The service was pretty good, very nice staff, but a little slow to respond. The food was tasty, nicely displayed. We chose the 3-course menu which was decent value. The portions are pretty small, but not bad for the price. Good GF and V options. Overall a good choice.
As a regular visitor to Twenty, I was delighted to find that the service had significantly improved since last visit (which it is why it was a while ago)!
Five of us had an amazing lunch on Saturday. The Wild Mushroom soup was enjoyed by three of us, and our main courses were steaks (of course!), burgers, lamb and ribs. Everything was well presented and simply delicious.
Service - wonderful. A warm welcome for all, prompt response to drinks orders, regularly topping up the water on the table - all with a smile! The courteous team did not rush us, which we really appreciated as this is the first time we had all seen each other since before Christmas so we had much to catch up on before attention could be diverted to the menu.
The dining room never fails to delight and I am sure that the two members of our party who were on their "maiden visit", will return, as I certainly will. Thank you all at Twenty :)
Food was fantastic and it’s a beautiful restaurant. It was very busy so perhaps they could have had more staff on.
Tasty food with good service and particular attention to my dietary needs. Good value.
We always visit Twenty when in Edinburgh..... good food, very good value , nice atmosphere and attentive staff.
Very disappointed in the state of the toilets- paper on the floor, soap dishes falling off the wall and not working at least one tap faulty.
Didn’t think the food was good value for money.
I have visited this restaurant many times and I keep coming back. Excellent service and food. Thank you
Excellent service, and very good food!
Nice place and the food was good but the waiters weren’t very friendly
The food was good enough but the size of the portions was a disgrace I’m a grown man not a 8 year old boy so for the portions of food the price was extortionate but never the less very good
My experience was not great my whole meal was cold not great.
Usually slick and expertly served food and wine. On this occasion required to ask to be served wine and food 20mins and 60mins respectively. However we are all susceptible to off days and this was evidently one.
Ok, so my fault for losing track of the days over festive period, thinking of having booked the ‘frites deal’ but it was actually Friday and the deal only available Sunday to Thursday! Anyway, had noticed the ‘lunch deal’ on arrival and as it was lunch (2.15pm) we asked waiter for lunch menu. Was told the deal wasn’t available so had to settle for the main menu. Very abrupt and then also overheard table next to us get the same response. Had the Twenty burger, which was nice enough but at £16.50 not great value compared to most other places! On leaving, double checked the lunch offer on display, which clearly stated it was available 12-6pm. Not rushing back, my £7.00 sliders today were tastier!!
The black pudding/haggis French toast was amazing!!
Lovely place and friendly staff and food was fantastic
I really enjoyed the environment, and I thought that the food was exceptional. However, the bar seemed understaffed, with long wait times. Although there were very few diners, the food service felt scarce and very uninterested.
All of my previous service experiences have been much better, so perhaps just a bad night.
My fiancé and I visited your restaurant tonight (the rare night out we get after getting a babysitter) and were disappointed with the level of customer service we received.
To start with we had to wait to be seated which is fine, however a member of staff said they would be with us shortly, and said you weren’t busy, after waiting 5 minutes, and the member of staff who was meant to be with us shortly walking past us and not acknowledging us. I then had to get the attention of your waitress and ask to be seated.
We were finally seated, and not offered any drinks. After another wait to get our orders, we had to ask the waiter for drinks as well as our starter and main courses.
The starters were great, unfortunately that’s where it ended.
We ordered the duck and the lamb for mains, the duck had no flavour at all and the lamb although was cooked nice, there wasn’t enough sauce. The three cheese Mac and cheese as a side was also disappointing, you would be lucky if there was 1 cheese in it!
We sat with empty glasses throughout our main meals, and were never offered another drink. We were also not once asked how our food was or if we needed anything else.
We have visited your restaurant a number of times in the past and this was extremely disappointing compared to our previous experiences, especially as you weren’t busy.
For the price we paid for our meal we would expect better quality and service. Especially when having children you don’t get out much to dine is places like your restaurant.
I await your reply.
Very average shame because it has been excellent in the past.
Having dined here on a number of occasions previously, I was very disappointed in my most recent visit on 27 December. My starter of scallops arrived and they were not visible under crispy pancetta! I imagine they were on the small side to begin with but they were grossly overcooked rendering them tiny. I would estimate 1.5 cm maybe 2 cm at a push! I ate half of one and decided not to proceed any further with the remaining 2 morsels, one of my party tried the other half and agreed they were like rubber with no flavour. My plate looked almost untouched yet the waitress never questioned this when clearing the table! I had to point it out to her. I had duck for main course and although it was flavourful it was very tough/chewy. This was a Christmas treat and I did not wish to upset my host any further by pointing this out. The only part of the meal I would recommend would be the dessert, Flaming alaska, worth it for the theatrical serving method. Our bill was just short of £300.00 for 4 people, definitely not worth it on this occasion.
I ordered a steak medium to well done and it was overdone. The vegetables were suggy and pudding was not tasty. It was overpriced for the quality of food delivered.
Had a lovely meal and the service was first class and spotless clean
