Unfortunately we do not take reservations for our outdoor cafe.
the food was decent but the service was just so awful it ruined the experience. would not recommend or return.
Despite somewhat mixed reviews, I found the food interesting and very tasty. The restaurant week special of 4 tapas size portions with matching wines was great value. Hanger steak was one of the best I have had and mini-Sunday was memorable. Service despite midweek emptiness was just ok. Views are lovely. Would go back even without restaurant week specials.
Went for restaurant week and it was a great 4-course meal for $29. Amazing food and large enough portions where we both ended up having to take food home. I hope you never stop making that churro sundae, it was divine!
Our second visit to this restaurant. It was a lot louder than I remembered when we walked in but then it actually got a little better once we were seated. Very eclectic menu with some hits and misses. The snack nuts with rosemary and other spices was really yummy as were the way they cooked my salmon and my husband's octopus. The meatball bao bun was scarfed down by my husband before I could get a bite, so I'll take that as also a positive. The goat cheese/ fig flat bread was not only tasty, but beautifully presented. The misses would be the cucumber salad (with avocado) that sounded delish and looked delish but really had no flavor and my husband's salad (which is escaping me right now what it was). Our waiter was super friendly and brutally honest (lol). Great location on the water. Would definitely recommend for small plates and some drinks. Just not over-the-top impressive, which is a little disappointing when you know there is always great food across the water in Manhattan!!
Food is good always but the huge mimosa at brunch is a rip off - all orange juice !!
Loved the Toasts! We got all the Toasts and they were fabulous!
Meh! They gave us great seating, but it was insanely loud!the first half of our service was good but then the waiter never returned after our coffee to deliver our check. We had to get it ( the bill) from another waiter and then had it split incorrectly by the manager. Ultimately, for the price you can do better. ps $18 for a split (a glass and a half) of Moët, is a ridiculous price for brunch in Hoboken.
The food was great. Service was terrible.
We went for a family dinner on New Years Day. It was probably much quieter than usual. There were ten people in our group and everyone liked their meal. Very interesting food choices, well prepared, and offered with excellent service. Will definitely recommend and return. I’m happy since I found this place via Open Table as the location worked well for everyone.
Its was ok. Definitely didn't like the kale with capers and raisins...yuck. service was good
The food was not good. We immediately felt sick after eating the $29 brunch items. The items on the menu were strange with no flow of a brunch menu. The "undrinkable" mimosas were just okay and overfilled with orange juice. The mimosas should be poured by glass and not into a huge pitcher. Someone should be walking around pouring the mimosas. I will not return to this restaurant. It was a disappointment.
Not a good experience, service is terrible. Had the scallops, plural because there were two, smaller than the diameter of a quarter for $14. So loud that my ears are still ringing but the place was only about a third full on a Saturday evening. They definitely need to work on the acoustics.
Decent food, slower service, drinks were BIG but not that strong
Late drinks mixed poorly, bad oysters, cold lobster risotto that tasted old, cold 38oz porter house steak. Just a terrible experience, we asked for check early and did not take food with us. Went on 8/29 in early evening.
I sat outside with a group of 6, we had a reservation for a Monday night and the place was pretty much empty. We sat outside and the skyline view was nice. Each of us only had one drink because the drinks were weak and expensive, and we had to keep putting in orders because the small plates were not small, but tiny. Even the ones listed on the menu as 'for the group' were not enough food. In the end we each spent roughly $50 and were still starving and sober. I wouldn't recommend this place - there are way better options nearby.
I hope Union Hall is known for something other than Sunday Brunch.
We were staying at the W across the street and found the look of the restaurant appealing. We had an 11:00 AM reservation and was able to sit outside in a shady section (late-July), right on the street and with a view of the water & where there was a nice breeze. Unfortunately, that's where the visit peaked.
- Some in our party ordered coffee and tea. Waitress did not bring over any spoons. Asked for a spoon at 11:15 AM. 11:30 AM, still no spoon. 12:00 Noon, after the food was delivered, still no spoon.
- We had kids (ages in range of 5-12) in our party. A kids menu was offered to us only *after* we started ordering.
- Little to no modifications were allowed. Although there were several menu items that included Tater Tots, we could not order Tater Tots as a side dish.
- Ordered a Breakfast Burrito with the Pico de Gallo on the side. That was the only request for that dish. It came with eggs and Pico de Gallo in a small burrito that wasn't even heated (adding a protein almost doubled the price).
- Once the order was taken, the waitress was nowhere to be found. The food was delivered by other wait staff. We had to go into the restaurant to track down the waitress, to give the universal check-signing motion.
Food was underwhelming, lackluster and lacked flavor. Service was worse. Again, I hope they're known for something other than Sunday Brunch....
We tried this restaurant during Hudson County Restaurant week and are very glad we did. We had a great server, great food, great atmosphere and a great time with family. We will be back!!
The food here is always fantastic, but I have always had extremely average service, and portions that leave much to be desired. In addition, I have never been to Union Hall without at least one, but usually two or more, item being unavailable. Three stars because of the taste, but disappointed not to be leaving a four star rating.
Excellent Atmosphere, Excellent Experience, Excellent Choice.
There are plenty of drinks/beer to pick from. Beautiful location with parking right around the corner. Food was good, certainly not great. Had the Duck tacos... I seemed like I was eating wood duck, literally like eating wood the duck was so dried out. Also got the Lobster risotto... good but the risotto was more like soupy rice rather than a nice thick risotto, almost soup like. Service was pretty good, always someone to help out. Would return but get the burger, the person I was with raved about it.
Food wasn't great, and the service was terrible. Specifically - food was brought out super late, and nothing came together so half our table was done eating before the other half even ate. The waitress was very apologetic, and she was great - however they need more cooks and better management. One guy came to our table and asked if "we asked for water", and then was super weird about giving us a bottle of water, and then we had to ask him to take the empty bottle away. Very bizarre. The food itself was dry and nothing to write home about.
If you are looking for a decent place that’s not too crazy, Union Hall will work. I went there with friends and we ordered all the toasts and a bunch of other stuff. The toasts were overdone and over priced. The Brussels sprouts and the churro oceans cream dessert were delicious.
The food was absolutely delicious ans the drinks were creative and yummy too!
This review is not about the food. The food was good but service was awful. The two stars are to the food only. That being said, when we asked for items such as mayo (that came with the food anyways) on the side, our waiter told us it couldn’t come as a side.
While our group had a lot of questions due to dietary restrictions, we were soon greeted with an abrasive attitude. Our waiter only game to check on our group a handful of times during the 2 1/2 hours we were there. When the time came to pay, our group calculated the bill to split everything g equally. Instead we ended up with one person from our group being charged almost $200, another person being charged close to $100 and the rest of us around $35. Our waiter was not only not apologetic for his mistake but was rude when we raised concerns about the charges on our card. He dismissed our concerns and responded rudely.
While I like Union Hall very much the experience was enough to never come back.
Extremely disappointing. Service was very slow. Small plates all brought out one at a time in very random order and a lot of time in between
Amazing food!! Tapas style but plates aren’t too small! Fried cauliflower rice was amazing!
Good was amazing. Definitely need to try the pork fried cauliflower "rice".
The hostess was extremely rude and difficult to work with, she wouldn't seat our party until we were all there -- which I understand if you are A) a fancy, 5-star restaurant or B) super crowded -- both of these were not the case. It was 1:30pm brunch with half the place full. 4 out of the 5 of our party was present. We want to come to your establishment and begin ordering food and drinks and you wouldn't let us? And then you didn't have an explanation other than "this is the rule." Extremely rude and condensing. Luckily the waiter was awesome and the food was pretty good. Don't think I will be coming back because of how rude the hostess was though, there are plenty of other options in Hoboken that will seat us when we get there in similar circumstances.
Went for brunch. Nice atmosphere on the water. Good food. Huge drinks.
We showed up 30 minutes early and they were unable to accommodate us early, which was rather frustrating, and they couldn't seat us until 10 minutes after our reservation time. It took asking for the manager for them to take care of it. The food was good, and we enjoyed ourselves once we were seated. The service was slow, dinner took 2.5 hours. It was nice they didn't rush us as we were catching up, but the server was also no where to be found multiple times when needed and didn't seem to have a good attitude. It's a complicated tapas menu, but we enjoyed everything we had and the price point for enough food was not too bad.
Union Hall has great food, but the service leaves much to be desired. We were there not long after opening and had made a reservation. Our server told us he forgot we had our section, and we sat for almost twenty minutes at the table before being helped,as other staff members walked past us avoiding eye contact with our table. We received the cursory two bite check in, but were hard pressed to get the servers attention for refills or the check at the end of the meal. I’m not sure if I’d come back.
Service was great and food was delicious!
Great service, great location and great food. Ideal for small get togethers, really good sangria and the bacon egg and cheese truffle flatbread is unreal.
We spent family dinner night at Union Hall and loved it!! The five of us must have ordered a large majority of the menu and everything was delicious. Great cocktails as well. Definitely a must try and great for groups. Thanks for a fun night!!
Very relaxed atmosphere. Staff was very attentive. Food/drinks were great. Would definitely return.
Great idea to have "unfinishable" drinks with 4 small plates- keeps it light and casual. Food was decent- I had the avocado toast, breakfast taco, burratta flatbread & truffle fries. I will say the burratta flatbread was one of the best things I've ever had but the other items were okay. However, I didn't go there for the promise of good food, I went for the experience of getting the unfinishable mimosa which was great! They also offer 1 free refill and were very generous with the refill. The service was okay. My friends and I were fine with it because we were enjoying eachother's company & our drinks/food & it was also Leprecon in Hoboken that day so it was a little crowded, but I could see other guests potentially being bothered by it. I would definitely come back!
This place has the best bar food in Hoboken - highly recommend it!
Food was awesome and so was our server! We went for restaurant week and it was an awesome value. Will recommend to a friend and will eat there again soon.
Wonderful 4 course small plate/tapas dinner with awesome $11 wine pairing option. Nicole the waitress was great; her passion, knowledge and energy was greatly appreciated.
it was really amazing food in a super cute space! pretty cheap considering it was hoboken, my only complaint is that it was sooooo cold and drafty inside i was freezing !
