Had a lovely meal at Union Street Cafe. Beautiful food, attentive service and great ambiance. My friend and I loved that we could actually hear each other and that it wasn't deafening noise levels like so many places are these days. I found it a bit £££ for what we had but the quality really was outstanding. Would return.

The food at Union Street cafe was very average.. We're so spoiled for good restaurant choices in London so there really is no need to have a mediocre dinner especially for the price level (I paid 30 pounds for a main).

The service was fine, cocktails and wine selection too.

Ambiance was similar to the food, but maybe that's what you get on a Saturday around South bank, it's quite touristy. and brings in a random crowd.

The restaurant is a bit tucked away but that didn't seem to put anyone off as it was pretty full by 18.30 on a Saturday. We had the January/February offer of two courses for two people fo £30.00 and it was outstanding value. The food was seasonal and absolutely delicious and the service was perfect, really professional but unobtrusive and genuinely friendly. When we were there our fellow diners ranged from families to glossy ladies rounding off a day's shopping or starting an evening out. I am already arranging a repeat visit for lunch with girlfriends.

Dinner catch up with a friend. The food was delightful - I chose from the a la carte menu - artichoke starter and delicious truffle infused risotto to follow. My friend went from the fixed price menu and had pumpkin and orange soup followed by seam bream with chickpeas. Very generous portions of attractive tasty food at £30 per head excluding service and drinks. Ambience relaxed and buzzy without being too noisy. My second time here and I would recommend.

We arrived early and had a cocktail in the bar downstairs which was pleasant- the barman was friendly and helpful.
Our table was ready and there was a set menu and a la Carte
I found it difficult to choose, I felt there were limited meat free choices - especially for the pasta dishes which I was looking forward to. I chose the baked eggs for a starter which were nice but wasn’t great followed by the risotto which was very liquid. I think I made bad choices. My partner enjoyed the pork ragu pasta although we both found the food salty.
Good wine choice at various prices. We had difficulty paying the bill, all the front of house guys seemed to disappear leaving one very hard working and pleasant woman juggling us and others paying, the cloakroom and new arrivals. The barman popped up again before we left and asked about our evening which was nice.

This was our first visit and in general would recommend. The staff were very helpful with translations of the menu, the food was very good but the experience was tainted by the extremely high cost of the wine and cocktails. Maybe fine in happy hour!

Underwhelming. I guess you get what you pay for. We had the January deal, which meant it was £15/head for two courses. The food was alright but nothing to write home about. Appears to be living off its name - go to any other restaurant in the area and they'll be trying harder and doing a better job.

The band was way too loud. And not very good.

I thought it was inconsiderate for the management to book a band that was unsuited for the space when mostly everyone just wanted to be able to have a chat.

It was truly an awful experience

Disappointing. I went with a close friend for a quiet celebration. We ordered pre-prandial drinks which we planned to have while we looked at the menu. They didn't arrive until we chased them and only after our wine and the first course had arrived. At least we didn't get charged. The puntarelle was excellent but the risotto was nothing to shout home about. Both the monkfish and the guinea fowl we had for mains were over-salted although the guinea fowl was excellently cooked. The pinot nero was also good and this is a restaurant where you can get 500ml carafes, which is about all we wanted. Prices were high for the quality and quantity (£17.00 for an indifferent starter is a bit steep). Staff were friendly and helpful. Decor is interesting but could get noisy if the place had been full (we went around 18:00 so not too busy). Felt as though the Gordon Ramsey name was being used to justify above average prices. Probably won't be going back.

This is one of the most over-priced restaurants we’ve ever visited and with very restricted choice, 4 dishes in both the Primi and Secondi lists. We decided that we would only have one course because of the cost, and my husband chose a risotto for £21. This was when the next nasty surprise hit. The risotto was about a quarter of an inch deep in a smaller than average size bowl. Five mouthfuls and it was gone. There was nothing on the Secondi menu that I wanted, so I decided to go for something from the Primi list because there was the possibility of having a main course size instead, as there were two prices next to each dish. Except there wasn’t on the open ravioli that I chose for £15, the smallest meal ever, which I had to supplement with cauliflower fritti, which was the best bit....small pieces of cauliflower, fried in batter, although the cheese fondu that was alleged to come with it was not evident. Nice-tasting food, but oh soooo little of it.
Another gripe: we had seen that there was a festive menu from the end of November till the end of December and so asked to see it. But hey, it isn’t available on a Saturday apparently, as we found out, so why didn’t it say that on the website?
And the servers. All I can think is that they were embarrassed by the teeny dishes with the massive price. Or maybe they just weren’t interested, but I have not often experienced servers who were quite so offhand.
Whatever, a main for my husband, a starter for me with cauliflower as a side, a bread basket with 2 pieces each and a dribble of olive oil, 2 small bottles of lager and a half carafe of the cheapest red wine came to £75, with a ‘discretionary’ service charge of 12.5%. We felt ripped off. It was Saturday evening at the busiest time of the year and yet the restaurant was far from full. Understandably.

A thudding drum sound from the music piped through the restaurant makes this more like an adolescent club than a civilised dining place. The decor is grunge and so is the sound. If you like that this is for you. I hate it as it provokes migraine. I asked the waiters to change this but was just told it would be turned down. Horrible music forced on you is not conducive to a lovely meal. The lighting is strip and industrial. It really is murky and miserable in its setting.
The food is very good although the pintade I chose was from the breast and tasteless. They might have added herbs or garlic. However I would have preferred the leg or a juicier part of the bird. I informed the restaurant that this was a birthday lunch. They did nothing to mark this whereas many restaurants provide a special something extra. The coffee is execrable. I sent it back. It is bitter and seems very cheap. This place does not make it for atmosphere, lighting, sound or decor. Service starts well but then the waiters forget you need attention. Food is reasonably good and coffee undrinkable. I won't return.

Our party of 9 had a lovely time, the service was great. We were looked after and every wish catered for, I couldn't have asked for better waiting staff. The food was very good also: excellent buratta and a perfectly cooked fillet of sea bass. I would recommend for anyone looking for an upmarket venue with excellent service and good food and wine list. Thank you

We were seated behind the main dining area so it was quiet but dark, I couldn’t see my main course very well at all. The crab starter was fresh but very delicately flavoured so not very crabby. The truffle taste wasn’t at all noticeable with the guinea fowl. Taking the alcohol off the bill and considering only 2 of 4 had desserts, it was £60 a head. Not at all value for money. Disappointing and the ladies toilets were appalling, had I visited them before my meal I may have walked out. Big let down.

Last minute booking for the lunchtime special offer. Food was lovely, very tasty. It took rather a long time for anyone to notice us between serving us our tap water and taking our order for any other drinks or food, but after that the service was good. We would go back - it was a nice, relaxed vibe.

Great venue with vibrant atmosphere.
The lunch menu is good value at just under £20 for 2 courses and £25 for 3 excluding service. Vegetables /salad is extra .Nice choice of food and was delicious. Excellent cocktail and wine list. However wine worked out expensive as we ordered by the glass rather than bottle. However when we asked for another glass and mentioned that the carafe would have been cheaper he brought carafe rather then two glasses! With 2 coffees our bill for 2 came to £103 which was double what we originally thought we would spend! For me I will still return as love this place. However my brother was not impressed with the drinks bill and won’t be returning. A shame as the food is good.

Stepped into Union Street Cafe about 3 years ago and have been a regular ever since! The staff were incredibly friendly, always attentive, and the food is fantastic! Their menu is seasonal - so it is based on what foods are in season. This is really wonderful because even though I am a regular, the menu changes all the time. The staff work very hard to make sure that all the guests are happy and comfortable in the restaurant. There is also a fabulous bar downstairs, along with a massive room for business meetings or for a bigger group of people. Highly recommend!
