Definitely get the crispy rice!!! It’s not oily like you’d imagine.. at all! The saffron & chili shrimp is just the right amount of savory & sweet because of the figs, then we had the tagliatelle/ spicy tuna sausage.. I’m not a big fan of tuna unless it’s sushi style but this was so different! If you’re pescatarian this is a great choice (I’m not) still good. My boyfriend and I were there for our anniversary and it was a nice touch when the hostess told us “happy anniversary” once she sat us... shows they pay attention to detail. So we had two small plates and a side and it was the perfect amount for just the two of us. We had the chocolate cake w sour cream ganache and wow let me tell you... maybe the best dessert I’ve ever had since leaving Paris!! Bomb... get it... even if you’re already full! I had the ‘got your stars crossed’ cocktail... again great... I was happy to see it served in a martini glass.. at first I thought they accidentally served me just a dirty martini but once I tasted the mezcal I was happy :) great spot for date night, girls night, business dinners or dining solo! Everyone there was very well dressed so that added to the already great ambiance! We had been for just drinks pre covid- glad we came back for dinner. They also give you a zip loc bag w a hand wipe and to hold your mask in while dining. Will def be returning!
Absolutely incredible as always! From the service to the food, they make everyone feel so special!
We had dinner with you last on March 14 and then again this past Thursday. Seemed like we were never away that long. Fourth meal and all excellent! (Christmas party of eight unanimously agreed best restaurant meal ever). Thanks
We had the fluke and hamachi crudos and they were amazing. Our group's favorite was the tuna sausage pasta with broccoli rabe. So creative and delicious.. I hope it stays on the menu for us to have again.
We also had the halibut and salmon entrees. The halibut was light but not a lot of flavor. The salmon was good but not our favorite. Next time I would stick with the crudos and small plates.
Service was a little sparse, compared to previous visits, possibly due to COVID...but hopefully that turns around as that is a big part of what makes this place special.
Broiled oysters and scallops were outstanding. Server did excellent work, despite limitation of mask and face shield.
Food and the service was outstanding, staff made you feel welcome even with a 7 year old child (we were provided with a coloring book and crayons).
Food was expensive, but as an occasional treat, you expect to pay more for a good dining experience.
It just reopened on 10/8/20 and my wife and daughters took me there on Saturday for my birthday. As usual, everything was great with a revamped menu and dining limited to 100 patrons. That fact brought the noise level down considerably from a pre-COVID typical Saturday where the noise level was lively to say the least.
Amazing dinner, excellent service
Vernick Fish picked up where it left off before the shutdown. The Philadelphia oysters and the dorado were excellent. The bar service was excellent too.
We are glad Vernick Fish has reopened for business! Our dinner was fantastic and the service was perfect. Above and beyond sanitation tactics. Time to plan our third visit..
always excellent! we live nearby and go frequently
Food was very good as well as the service. Unfortunately it was quite empty due to cancellations from the coronavirus. We felt badly for the staff.
A very delicious meal. Well paced and attentive service. Expensive but high quality ingredients presented in a special way.
We were recommended to try the Dover Sole, by our Uncle. It was phenomenal!! We split the fish. It was an expensive meal but we expected that and don’t splurge like this very often. We also had oysters, king crab, tuna tartar and the cauliflower. We loved everything!! The only thing that I wouldn’t get again was the king crab, for the price you barely get a leg of crabmeat. We look forward to going back there. We went for a late lunch, perfect time to go there, service was amazing!!!
Simply great food, great service, and all-around great experience. I would not expect anything less from Vernick. The food was so well prepared and delicious. Thank you!
Outstanding by every measure. Totally enjoyable. I look forward to visiting again.
Fabulous dinner. I think we ate all the cold small plates! The oysters were terrific and presented so well. The halibut ceviche was the best I have ever eaten. The bread and flavored butter was delicious. Apple tart for dessert was wonderful too!
Always a great meal and excellent service!
Perfect, as always!
Server had difficulty answering basic questions about style of service in a way that surprised us--we asked if ordering a variety of small plates to share as at Vernick Food and Drink was how Vernick Fish worked and he didn't answer directly nor even seem to understand what we were asking. But the food came plated in a way where it was very clearly designed for sharing.
The food was uneven, also. All the Pristinely Raw selections we ordered were absolutely terrific. The rest varied significantly, some to the point of being unmemorable.
Wedding anniversary - servers were very attentive. Bartenders were terrific. Manager was hands-on as well.
Not many options for brunch
A beautiful space where the food is the star. Perfectly executed seafood. We loved every bite. Also, the cocktails are fantastic.
Great dinner at Vernick Fish. Food, service, and atmosphere were all excellent. Loved the variety and styles of seafood, definitely offered some very unique dishes.
Was a great restaurant, food was good, service was spectacular
What a wonderful restaurant.Everthing was perfect.Cannot wait to return.
All around great food, interesting and inventive menu, comfortable environment and topnotch service from a friendly and well informed team who clearly love what they do and have a passion for food. I would definitely go back.
Wonderful seafood restaurant for a special occasion.
Beautiful restaurant, perfect service, absolutely delicious meal. Our every need was attended to, cannot wait to return.
Food was fantastic. Everything else was sub-par. My friend has celiac and is gluten free. Our server originally said most everything can be prepared gluten-free. We ordered drinks, crudos, and entrees. Our server came back 3 separate times to relay that our selections couldn’t be prepared GF. There was not one entree that could be GF. She ended up getting a piece of steamed fish and rice. After saying she really was looking forward to one dish because of the mushrooms, the server (our 2nd for some reason), said they do a small side of trumpet mushrooms. The bill comes, nothing is adjusted, and shockingly there was a charge for the side of mushrooms. We would have left before ordering had we known the menu would be so limiting. My GF-friend has eaten at Vernick Fish for lunch atleast 3 times and had zero trouble. Again, my non-GF food was great. I expect MUCH more on the service side when prices are slightly higher than most seafood restaurants in Philly and it’s location in a service-first Mecca of Four Seasons. Tons of medium and higher-end restaurants have plenty of options for GF. We were stunned that Vernick Fish has such a hard time. The bill was slightly reduced after we asked for it to be. Go elsewhere if you want excellent service or are GF.
Amazing! Enough said.
Fabulous! Food and drinks were innovative and delicious - from beginning to end.
My basic issue with restaurants is where we are seated
We were four
When we were to be seated there were many options
Instead of asking if we had a preference
We were to be seated in the black in an isolated area separated by a glass wall
When we asked for the other options the hostess had to go back and get permission
Otherwise all was satisfactory
Very corporate and sterile. Food is fine, but so I’d 100 other restaurants in Philly. Service was ok, distant not friendly. Great place if you’re on an expense account and don’t care about money or atmosphere
This is definitely a new favorite restaurant. The food was amazing and the menu was so interesting! Wish they had a chef's special so that we didn't have to make decisions, too many great choices. The food came out a little fast and we felt a little rushed. The overall price is high but in my opinion worth it. I will be back many times, can't wait to try the rest of the menu!
Meal was superb and interesting. Wait staff provided plenty of breathing room to peruse the menu and visit. Ambiance was uplifting.
If you love fish I wish we had room to sample more. I love oysters, and their selection is outstanding, but I decided not to blow my appetite that, although I did try two of the most-recommended varieties (and they were great!). Our waitperson was a fount of good advice on what to order - the most outstanding dish (IMHO) was a square of smoked salmon, topped with a panko-encrusted poached quail's egg - you have to put it in your mouth in one "go" and then crunch down. It's heaven. The dish comes with 3 of these, but we're glad we added the 4th. The ceviche was out-of-this-world; also the smoked trout rillettes with sourdough bread. We ate about as much as we could manage, and left a tiny bit of room for the shared dessert of chocolate ganache cake. Surprisingly for such a great variety and quantity of totally amazing food, including a glass of wine apiece, the dinner came to under $100 each. I know that's not a cheap meal, but we had budgeted more than that, considering the praise we'd heard about the excellence of the experience. By the way, we chose counter seating, and watch the food being prepared -- lots of fun; but if you want a more intimate experience, there are normal tables.
Very good! Love the place our server was excellent. Desserts need a bit of work did not impress me as much as the food. Will go back!
Fabulous food, great service
