Arrived in Vice, the bar, which looked amazing, great cocktails and gave a real sense of excitement for dinner. Unfortunately went to Virtue, the restaurant where there was no ambience whatsoever and the food was ridiculous for the money,no flavour and I’ve eaten in quite a few fine dining restaurants. What on earth makes a slice of bread with mackerel pate and some flowers on top worth a lot of money???, and the tiniest prawn ever with a bit of foam. Recommend the bar but the restaurant is not worth it
I was expecting amazing things from this restaurant, and while the service was good and some of the food amazing, the dining room was bland, bare and distinctly unimpressive. My dentists waiting room is nicer and more interesting. I wasn’t sure why I should spend so much on a meal when no effort at all had been made on decor and ambiance. Very unspecial. I can think of loads of other places I would rather give my custom to. Sorry.
Absolutely bloomin brilliant!!! Probably one of the best meals I've ever had and I've eaten in a lot of places. 15 course tasting menu with drinks pairing was the way forward. Knowledge of everything was amazing and the work force were great from start to finish!@
Open table website allowed me to book a table for 12pm on a Sunday and when we arrived we found the restaurant shut! Having checked online the opening time is in fact listed for 5pm. Information needs updating on the booking link to avoid unhappy customers in future.
Excellent food and Service! It certainly lived up to the reviews.
I visited Vice & Virtue for the first time with my girlfriend to celebrate our first anniversary last week. We had the Sunday tasting menu and were both blown away by the food and drinks and the service was second to none! All the dishes and drinks pairings were described really well and the flavour combinations were really exciting and adventurous. Our joint favourites we're actually the twist on a cheese course and the final desert, which was some of the best food we've ever eaten! The only thing that wasn't as expected was the surroundings. The Sunday tasting menu is served in the downstairs bar, not the restaurant. Although at first this seemed to be a downside, we quickly settled in to the illegal prohibition style decor and it became part of the experience... Would fully recommend. We'll definitely be going back!!
Food good, wine very good but ambience and service just not good enough at this price point.
Our table was 8pm and we arrived just after 7.30pm, the bar waitress told us to take a seat and she'd be straight over. After a longish wait I beckoned her over as she was busy chatting to her colleague.
The ambience of the place is poor though and we felt like the restaurant was being packed up around us with two courses to go. V&V have come back on my google review pointing out that we didn't leave till 11.45pm. This is correct but THEY were in charge of the pacing of the meal not us.
It wasn't 'clearing tables' that we were objecting to however, no one would object to a restaurant doing that. Our problem was that the waitress was noisily packing the cutlery away in drawers. Even a curtain in front of her pack up area might have helped I think.
Everything should be as close to perfect as possible and I'm afraid our experience at V&V just wasn't up to scratch in this regard.
Update to reply (further correspondence wouldn’t be public, let’s keep this public!)
If only positive reviews were allowed then it wouldn’t be much of a reviews process would it!
Tranquillo, you’re still ranked very highly in the main. Our experience wasn’t that great but I tried to make a constructive suggestion in my review, which you’ve clearly not even bothered to read.
Cutlery being polished doesn’t make much noise in my kitchen, but if it’s being noisily put away it can make a bit of a racket.
Your ‘2 hour clearing hold’ is inaccurate, we certainly didn’t complain at 10pm and our bill confirms that we left before midnight. To repeat myself, we didn’t object to tables being cleared, it was the packing up and putting away which made us feel uncomfortable.
As for our behaviour being aggressive and disrespectful this is just not true. Responding to a negative review with a complete fabrication to try and discredit said review is at best unprofessional, at worst slanderous.
Food ok but not mind blowing for these prices
Just not enough food. 5 course option left us both very hungry afterwards
The service, ambiance, drink and food were all exceptional. From the minute we arrived we were treated brilliantly, the bar manager is incredibly knowledgeable about flavour blending in cocktails and then the tasting menu was all of the highest quality. Well worth a visit.
Our third visit to Vice and Virtue, we love this place. Fresh, seasonal and original tasting menu. Outstanding customer service. Cannot fault in any way.
Very good tasting menu. Nice presentation on the plate. Varied flavours between dishes.
Unfortunately, towards the end of our night, the restaurant got really cold. We did not report this at the time. Overall very good experience.
Excellent food yet again!! A thoroughly enjoyable evening. Drinks were unusually slow arriving in the bar which meant we had only just got them when we were taken upstairs to eat. Alert from that little hiccup a flawless evening. Thank you.
We visited with our son. He lives away so we like to have something special when he comes over. The decor wasn't what we were expecting - it had a bare stage at the back and up a flight of stairs that were a little run down.
We had the fixed three course menu, which was not too pricey at £30 per head, with a selection of complimentary entrees on the table between the three of us.
We found the complimentary entrees to be OK, but no more than that.
Our starters were nice - my curried quail Kiev was lovely - but portion sizes miniscule.
The main courses were also nice, but again portion sizes minimalist.
There was a long wait for dessert and all were fine, not spectacular.
The cocktails were superb but didn't really make up the experience for us....which was just OK overall.
Left us feeling rather hungry I'm afraid.
Vegan friendly. 💖
7 course vegan taster meal.... delicious!!
We loved every minute.
In the middle of a snow storm this is the place to be! Started off with v good cocktails in the bar and the experience continued in the same vein all evening. We had the 10 course menu and wine pairing which delivered on every single course. The front of house staff were knowledgable and friendly and helped bring the meal to life. Go now whilst you can still get a table !!!
Fantastic food great service and amazing cocktails
Everything about our experience was top notch.....food, drink, staff amazing! Marked our 1st anniversary and my wife’s birthday perfectly.
Also, make sure you use the cocktail lounge before and/or after.
Fantastic food and service
Friendly greeting and excellent food and service. Would definitely recommend.
Superb experience - the 10 course prestige menu was outstanding and the drinks package complimented the courses beautifully. Staff were knowledgeable and attentive without being intrusive.
Really great evening. Restaurant Manager is excellent as is the food.
Amazing tasting menu, great vegetarian option too, £50 a head but they basically force you to buy a cocktail on the way in and the matched drinks are a bit pricey. However food and service are outstanding
Excellent attentive service. Wonderful food and a great selection of cocktails . . . they are happy you make a custom drink if nothing on the menu appeals!
The 10 course tasting menu was superb and with the accompanying drinks package it made it a very special occasion.
We had the 7 course tasting menu, we were disappointed! Having been to other tasting menu restaurants and always really enjoyed them , we were really looking forward to going to Vice & Virtue as the reviews were good. But we found the food either bland or 1 flavour taking over the whole dish, we though the flavour combinations were unimaginative, and we felt rushed, they did not leave enough time between courses. Overall a disappointing meal out.
The food was good and courses felt good value for money, the restaurant was quite quiet so felt this affected the ambience and would expect some of the waiters to be more well kept/dressed for the type of audience this is going for... with the drinks package there wasn’t enough wine we had to buy more to see us through the courses and the waits between. I’d pay more and go to man behind the curtain if a special occasion came up again.
If you like creative cocktails, good food elegantly presented in art deco surroundings, and impeccable service, then this is the place for you.
Food was great overall. Crab cake - 10/10. Truffle Arancini - 10/10 Swordfish - 10/10. Boar Scotch Egg - 10/10. The black pizza was such a let down, way too salty. 0/10 - They knocked this off the bill however, so all is good, good service.
Had a few problems with not having items on the menu, only to be told after ordering, which is always a little annoying.
Overall - would return for cocktails and light bites
Wonderful to be wowed by food, wine matching and serene service.
We went for my fiancé’s birthday and had the chefs menu with the standard drinks package. The menu was different to the website as it had just changed over but was delicious. Service (especially from Ross, our waiter) was amazing and staff knew their stuff about food and drinks. We had a lovely time.
Superb. This was our second New Year's Eve doing the taster menu and wine pairing and it was excellent both times. The service, the food, the wine, the cocktails, even the fancy cutlery, everything was brilliant. Try it!
Unusual location and understated entrance to Vice and Virtue but inside a great welcome from every member of staff. We chose the 7 course tasting menu for a family celebration but chose our own wine and not the selections offered. Food wash beautifully prepared and promptly served. Staff were attentive and cleared glasses etc. speedily. Very smooth. The menu was nicely balanced with the high points being the chicken with an amazingly light black pudding, followed by tender venison. If anything, the background music was slightly loud for our preference but other diners seemed happy so it would have been unreasonable to ask for a change. We would be very happy to return to Vice and Virtue soon. Thanks to all who made the evening special
My first tasting menu & it will most definitely not be my last!
Amazing food, great drinks & fabulous service!
This restaurant provides a fine dining experience on a level one would expect to find in the posh quarters of London. The Chef's Tasting Menu we chose was a journey through a great variety of courses each of them bringing out the best of flavours and textures of the main ingredient on the plate. Paired with this one can choose from a great selection of fine wines , etc. A dinner here is the main event of an evening out - one needs to bring time to enjoy. Great team work as well providing an excellent and friendly service.
Good cocktails in the bar and great choice. Food was OK, but the restaurant is trying to be something that the chefs do not have the skills to bring to fruition. Did the 7 course tasting menu.
Decor looks like it has been done on the cheap in places and a single unisex toilet in the dining area is poor. As said, food was OK but won't be returning
Excellent food with excellent service. Food delivery very efficiently
It’s not just about putting pretty food on a plate, there are many more elements to consider to bring things together, however the enthusiasm and passion of the staff was refreshing apart from a number of table etiquette faux pas. With further refinement I can see much potential in elevating the overall dining experience, particularly clarity of place, identity and intelligent planning of the menu. One immediate improvement should be investment in a kitchen fume extraction system that works, this would avoid an unacceptable level of cooking fumes in the restaurant. Not what you expect from a fine dining experience. Nor do I wish to see people drinking from bottled beer at tables or coats hung over the backs of chairs due to the lack of a cloak room, it just looks scruffy.
Ten out of ten. Ross manager superb and Dean. Will be going back
This place is amazing. By the time i was halfway through our meal i was wondering when i could come back!
The service was second to none, witty and polite staff that cannot do enough for you. The food was incredible, well presented and absolutely delicious.
We will be back for sure.
Fantastic food and service. Great drinks menu and brilliant food. Would highly recommend.
Went to V&V just prior to going to the theatre. Had the taster menu with a drinks package. It was delicious. Good food, very nice drinks and excellent staff. While it was expensive I do think it was well priced.
We'll be going again for sure where we'll likely try the a la carte menu...
