Inspired by world travels and the memories collected from them, Chef Roaya Saleh opened the first Villa Mamas in Bahrain as an extension of her own kitchen. In September of 2017, we opened in London to share the warmth of Khaleeji food and hospitality with an international audience.

At VML, you will be able to taste traditional Bahraini and Gulf dishes with a twist. We like to think of ourselves as a Middle Eastern style, Mediterranean, Persian and Fusion cuisine.

Food was ok but the mash didn’t compliment the lamb shank and the sauce was way too heavy. £40 for a lamb shank was way overpriced.

Lovely little restaurant - and I would go again. Cosy on a rainy lunchtime, the staff are excellent. The starters were deliciou - the hummus, baba ganoush, vine leaves in particular. But don't order a main if you don't like lots of rice! My friends and I all ordered dishes that had meat and included a side of rice. It is a LOT of rice in comparison to the amount of meats, and therefore doesn't seem very good value for money.

An expensive bottle of wine was served warm. We had to ask for ice - which rather defeated the point. Service was largely friendly but hurried. Starters had to be prevented from being whisked off the table before they’d been finished, and main courses arrived with breathless speed. The intention is warm, Middle Eastern hospitality. The effect, however, is more like eating in the urgent, hurried atmosphere of an impending sandstorm.

We booked a table on a Friday night, not too late. When we came in we weren’t greeted especially well. We then came to order and the waitress rattled off a very long list of dishes that were not available, all of which were the vegetarian options. With one of us a vegetarian and given this is a restaurant on the higher end in terms of cost, we just didn’t feel great about staying and left. Staff didn’t seem bothered at all. Really disappointing as we were looking forward to eating here and think it’s pretty reasonable to expect for a restaurant to not have so many dishes unavailable on a Friday night, especially at that price point.
