Food was ok.. Very little presentation on the starters which I felt were average and overpriced. Main courses were better, but again felt like frozen food that had just been reheated. Service was pretty slow, but that wasn't the fault of the service staff, I think it was simply too busy for the number of colleagues on duty. Would I eat here again? Probably not. Would I recommend it to friends, no.

The food was tasty and cooked well. The only major let down was the staff. No smiles, no checking if everything was ok, greeted with "you can only have house wine" fine but can we have red white or rose. It was if we were an inconvenience to them to be there.

We ate outside service was below average from 3 different waiters. Steak was tiny but well cooked. Wouldn't rush back for the service. Definitely not worth a 10% service charge.

Lovely food and friendly service. The set Sunday menu offers a good choice of starters and desserts and both the roast beef and chicken are lovely.

My friend and I both went for lunch. Was the first time we had been here for lunch. We sat outside and staff were nice enough. We ordered food and a drink each. Whist eating our lunch half way through the waitress interrupted us too pay for the meal. I asked why as usually you would pay at the end. But she said it was restaurant policy. My friend and I are both hard working nurses and have families with young children. This was a rare occasion we got out by ourselves and it was completely ruined. We were really offended and insulted that we were interrupted whilst eating to pay for the meal. I will never be back.

Dear Linda, Thank you for your feedback, and we're sorry to hear your visit didn’t meet expectations. To clarify, guests dining in the restaurant pay at the end of their meal. The terrace, while still part of the restaurant, is managed through the bar and mainly serves bar guests, so food and drinks are paid for at the time of ordering to help keep service running smoothly during busy periods. In your case, a new team member wasn’t aware of this and returned to take payment once they realised. We understand this may have felt disruptive, but it was not personal, and we apologise for the interruption. We truly appreciate the work you do and regret that your time out was affected. Kind Regards, Joshua A. Velvet Hotel, Bar & Brasserie

I don’t usually write reviews, but this place truly deserves one. From the moment we arrived, we were warmly welcomed by our host, who promptly seated us and gave a helpful overview of the menu and what to expect. As non-alcoholic drinkers, my friend and I appreciated the thoughtful range of alternative drink options that were offered without hesitation. The food was outstanding—fresh, flavourful, and served in generous portions. The atmosphere was elegant yet comfortable, with spotless facilities and just the right balance of background noise—lively but not overwhelming. I’d definitely recommend this place to anyone looking for a quality dining experience.

Dear Amar, Thank you so much for taking the time to share such a thoughtful review. We're thrilled to hear that you felt warmly welcomed and well looked after throughout your visit. It's great to know our non-alcoholic options stood out, and that the food, atmosphere, and service all made a positive impression. Your kind words mean a lot to the whole team—we’re genuinely grateful for your recommendation and hope to welcome you back again soon. Kind Regards, Joshua A. Velvet Hotel, Bar & Brasserie

Always used to visit here years ago. But due to moving out of the area visiting has become less regular. So it was a nice surprise to still see some original staff from years ago! To food was nice the ribs nice and the duck salad a refreshing change with fresh salad and not wilting as is the norm these days. The lamb was tender and flavour some and the steak also was cooked just right. The menu is not overcrowded and so makes it manageable. Will definitely visit again when back in town.

Dear Christopher, Thank you for your lovely review—it's always a pleasure to welcome back familiar faces, and we're so glad you enjoyed your return visit. It's great to hear the food hit the mark, especially the ribs, duck salad, lamb, and steak, and that the simpler menu made for an enjoyable experience. We’ll be sure to pass your kind words on to the team, especially those who’ve been here over the years. We look forward to seeing you again whenever you're back in town. Kind Regards, Joshua A.
