We had food from the lunch time menu, which is good value. Sadly we were the only people in there for the whole duration of stay, so the atmosphere was a little subdued.
Our food was bland, and not exactly as described. Cocktails tasted a bit watered down too. The hosting was good, and they did what they could to rectify the problems when we let them know.
Nice food, excellent friendly staff that made all the difference.
Will go again 😋
Rather bizarre "computer says 'no'" moment when we asked to have a drink in the bar before our meal. If the restaurant was full, I could understand, but there was only 4-5 other diners in. Food very average.
Loved it here! Had the best time will definitely go again
It was amazing best service all staff where polite and down to earth this made me feel so much better considering how amazing the restaurant looked and the food was 10/10 so amazing could not fault a thing there was one gentleman who’s name I have forgot but he was so polite and got us all the best deals and recommended the best food
Great food and great service! And the fish and chips were to die for, I’ll be back!
Let down by the service. Food average, expensive though!
Sorry its been a long time since we've been here so decided to go.... Food average, felt like we put the waitress out by asking for salt etc and was shocked to watch 2 men waiting to be seated tell the waitress when she approached them, they had checked in and took their temperature which they said was fine. Waitress shown them to their table! Surley it should all be witnessed like it was for us when the waiter booked us in? My view is not Covid secure when staff not following the rules so won't be re visiting.
Food was not great quality considering the cost. Small portions got the bruschetta and the taco heaven is just a farce. Coupled with a Maitre'd who made ageist comments I would not recommend.
Perfect. Exactly how it was meant to go
Fantastic service, food and drinks were amazing. Our waiter was brilliant, me and my son really enjoyed it.
Food was lovely. Staff was polite and chatty and offered recommendations .. brill cocktails.
Note that the 30% discount for September 2020 only applies on Monday to Thursday. This was not made clear when booking the reservation online.
Fried Chicken and Chicken Burger were fantastic. Our server Scott was super friendly and attentive. Thanks for a great night!
Great location on Canal St. Food was good and big portions. The service (from Scott) was excellent, timely and informative.
Hi Swamptiger, Thank you for your nice review. We passed your word to Scott as well. Hopefully we will see you soon again, but till then stay safe. Regards, Velvet Team
Food and service were good, staff clearly making an effort with social distancing. Even took Temperature when we went in and we felt safe. When we booked there is a 30% off food offer between 1st - 30th Sept which I marked up to have, only when we got the bill did they tell us it's not on Fridays. There was also an option to choose if it's for an occasion so we ticked birthday, seemed pointless as made no difference to anything. Disappointed tbh
Felt very safe. Temperature taken on arrival. Guests socially distanced but staff at counter weren't.
Food was delicious and great value.
Covid has definatley impacted on service. Staff were slow and needed prompting to take initial drink order, provide cutlery when food arrived, provide condements. We asked for the candle on the table to be lit, the waiter forgot to return. The food was OK but rushed in cooking process - example: the calamari was not rested to drain off the deep fried cooking oil! The experience was standard so not what you expected from a top rated brasserie! We wish them luck in improving standards now we are back in action - we won't be returning soon.
All good. And Jan is a fun waiter!
It was “Pride” weekend, but never the less, thought I’d treat my better half to dinner for her birthday. Assumed the restaurant would be equipped for the reservations they took on. Table booked for 7:30, we got settled... and waited. We didn’t get a drink until 7:50. Had to flag someone down who it appeared had forgotten all about us. Host apologised and offered us an additional shot of gin, which was nice. Wasn’t looking for anything, but food and some drinks! Seemed apologetic and we carried on. We ordered food at the same time as drinks. 20 minutes later and finally the bread for the table came... and then nothing. For a about an hour. Just about managed to get another drinks. The staff were very attentive, to large groups, however couples, it would appear were left to their own devices. I can’t count the number of times the waiter in the shorts actually looked towards us, then saw we were without drinks, then proceeded to walk away! Woe betide that group needing another shot and their pictures taken for the third time! Food arrived. Missing bits. Burnt buns and burger. Steak Sauce arriving 5 mins after order was given to us. We ate quickly because of reservations at a bar, but then couldn’t get someone to come bring the bill. After another 10 minutes (short waiter glances x amount of times at us, but never mind the couple - large group awaits)! I stood up and waited near the door. It’s the second time we have eaten there since restrictions were lifted a little and tbh, it would have to be something special to go there again! Saw another couple with the same exhausted look on their face!
I really enjoyed our visit to Village Brasserie on the Saturday of none pride 2020. We arrived and we seated promptly with excellent measures around checking temperature and taking track and trace details. The food was delicious and good value for money and the cocktails were amazing. There was a bit of a party atmosphere which we didn’t mind at all given pride has been cancelled this year. Will definitely visit again :)
Myself and my boyfriend came for a nice meal on Saturday. The food was absolutely amazing the best we have had in a long time, portion sizes were great definitely filling. The staff were supper friendly and helpful finder us tables to have drinks at after despite not booking for drinks. The service was quite slow, but the environment friendly staff and amazing cocktails and food made up for it. Would definitely come again, and have recommended to family and friends already.
The restaurant decor is quite good. The social distancing is maintained well between tables. The only unfortunate item, was that the menu is fairly limited.
The food was fabulous as were the cocktails. Staff were on the ball and pleasant as ever - we really enjoyed our meal and will come back again.
Service was a little slow. Menu just ok. Food only basic.
The whole experience from entering until leaving was beyond impeccable. My only critique would be that the meal was too filling. It was amazing. I’ll definitely come again. Thank you
First class COVID Safe protocols without being intrusive.
Food was excellent. Staff was very accommodating. It's a shame inclement weather caused a minor leak of rain water into the restaurant though, but this would not put me off eating here again as the overall experience was lovely.
We stayed at the velvet hotel and had a meal here food and drinks were really nice Good value couldn’t fault it
This was our first visit to the Village Brasserie after seeing an ad on Facebook showing their deal for the Eat Out to Help Out scheme. We were excited to give it a go! They had a set course menu and the standard A La Carte which we opted for, and we got starters and mains. We had the garlic flatbread and the popcorn shrimp to start and the Filthy Burger and the Chicken Tikka Skewers for main. Though the food was fairly good, it lacked real flavour and was probably closer to pub grub than anything else. The service we received was okay, but it was hard to get service from the waiters and there were many things I the menu unavailable. The prices without the scheme seem far too high, and if not for the scheme we would have been wholly disappointed. We likely won’t visit again which is super disappointing because we are so keen to find somewhere we like to eat in the village!
Food quality was really high, we took advantage of eat out to help out and could not have been more pleased
The worst restaurant I’ve ever been too, never asked if we wanted drinks, had to walk out after an hour because of no service. Will never go back
The check-in process was super easy, temperature checks and hand sanitiser station at the desk when we arrived. The wait staff were very attentive and informative about the menu. The food was absolutely delicious - we ordered steak and as part of the Eat Out to Help Out scheme - we knew we had to pay extra, which was fine. The steaks were cooked exactly to our liking, so tender and seared perfectly. I ordered the cabbage pancetta as well which was delicious. I didn't eat my fries as I'm trying to lose lockdown weight and the waiter said I should have told them when I ordered and they would have substituted them for salad or something else suitable - which was good to know. We ordered extra drinks and had a lovely evening. All tables in the restaurant were suitably distanced and other diners were respectful when taking their tables. All in all a fabulous night and we'll definitely be back. Thanks so much.
Arrived for the meal myself and my partners temperature was taken under Covid guidelines we were seated by a lovely waiter the service was fast and the food was excellent
I ordered the mussels for starter and they were cooked beautifully
My main I had the fish and chips the portion was very large i tried my best to eat as much as I could as it was so enjoyable, sorry to say I didn’t finish it all
The cocktail offer 2 for £12 was good and the raspberry mojitos went down quite nicely
I will be returning 😀lovely place, lovely service and lovely food
Was met at the door and shown to our table . On booking details the advertisement was a bit ambiguous about the ear out to help out scheme . It looked like two separate offers only tii Oi be told it was the same so no special offer. Food was tasty but took a while to arrive . No offer for delay only a very delayed apology . Shame as food was so delicious and good value . Ambiance was great too
Lovely food, arrived really fast and the service was very friendly!
I haven't eaten here for a while but I am so glad we went on Saturday. The service was quick but not rushed. The food was outstanding and the drinks were extremely good value. 2 cocktails for £12? Excellent! Can't recommend strongly enough
We waited half an hour before being acknowledged with a drinks order. It was over an hour before the starters came. Groups of people who came after us were served and given their food way before us. The food itself was very greasy and made me ill that night. That’s not to say all the menu is like that, but my choices were. Had I been confident I could’ve gone to another restaurant without a booking, I would have left.
We waited 40 minutes for our first drink and an hour for our starter. After starters we waited another 30 minutes for mains which was very Underwhelming. One of our guests ordered a meal that wasn’t described as a pizza and it was cold so had to be sent back. When asking for the bill it took a total of three times for it to be correct, being overcharged for things we didn’t have. In general a really unorganised establishment and we was all very disappointed unfortunately
