Disappointed with the food, Sunday lunch carvery. Meat was on the tough side the veg were undercooked and the roast potatoes were soggy.
We have been twice to this open table and we thoroughly enjoyed the experience.
Good starters, with soup and brilliant starters, well cooked carver meats and plenty of vegetable. Deserts were plentiful and delicious .
This is a treat for families and individuals and reflects a very good value for money
Sunday carvery is nice. the only negative is it said kids eat carvery free but for some reason that wasn't the case for my 3 year old on this Sunday, so i had to pay for her.
it wasn't expensive.
This was the first time we have had a meal at a Village Hotel and we where not disappointed. From the table reservation to paying for the meal everything was easy and very enjoyable. It was a really great Sunday Lunch. Thankyou again Village Hotel.
The restaurant is very welcoming and the service is amazing
Been here many times now and love it; We have even booked to stay over the Xmas period this year; FAB food, staff and Hotel.
Reasonable food. Rather hemmed in by other tables. Somewhat noisy. I went there to please my 17 year old son. I think he enjoyed it. Attentive service. They knocked the costs of our desserts off the bill as I found a piece of plastic in my meal.
I could eat there again but wouldn't go out of my way.
2 course dinner deal with the hotel on a Sunday.. well it was very nice but what I would say is if I was paying i wouldn't like to be sat with the pub crowd as this is supposed to be a restaraunt.. food good but not worth over £20 each
A lovely Sunday lunch with family and great service
The food and service were very good but the decor and the ambiance were too loud. The South African red wine Nyala was excellent quality.
Fabulous food & selection as always, fantastic venue too!
Staff could have been a little more attentive!!
Went for the Sunday roast buffet.
Great value for money with the carvery, starters and deserts included.
Carvery was of a high standard but was sorely missing broccoli and parsnips.
salad starters weren’t labels so had no idea what was in them and some hot ones wouldn’t of go a miss.
Deserts were good but be aware that there are hot options like crumble with custard and Sundaes but you have to ask for them,
Sadly we didn’t find this out till after we had finished.
This was our first visit. Our waitress was friendly but didn't tell us there was more than one option for starters so we had the soup, carvery was good, we were then asked if we wanted crumble for desert which we didn't, no other option was mentioned paid the bill. I then asked about the carvery at the desk and was told we could have had the cold buffet and more choices of deserts in all it would have been a 4 course menu but we were never aware of this, we will return another day as other menus look very interesting
My husband and I were celebrating our wedding anniversary and had saved this as a special treat for the occasion. When we arrived, we waited at the desk in the pub to be shown to our table. The pub had enormous screens showing sport and I asked whether the restaurant was in a different area. My initial relief at being told the restaurant was separate was soon replaced with disappointment when I realised the dining area was just at the other end of the same room as the bar. The decor felt very industrial with the air conditioning pipes and lagging on show in the high ceiling. When asked what we'd like to drink, my husband said "I don't know what you have yet". "We have a wide range" waitress replies brightly. But if you don't drink alcohol they could only offer Becks Blu (apart from juice, coke etc). The starters arrived ok but we waited an age for our mains and had to chase them up. We think we must have been forgotten as we watched another couple arrive, have starters and their mains before any sight of our main course. And when they arrived (we both ordered steak) they were luke warm. We were torn between just eating them - we were hungry - but decided at the prices they were charging that we should send them back. They were soon returned to us re-heated (and now less rare) but the rustic chips (which were not much more than sun-tanned boiled potatoes) had gone cold. The restaurant did acknowledge our bad experience by wiping the total cost of all our drinks from the final bill. We won't be going back in a hurry.
Great food and view to watch the footie , service was brilliant went out of their way to make sure I had a the best seat while eating for the game
Booked into a Club Room and loved the gadgets and contemporary feel of the room. The Tassimo maker, opaque glass to clear glass for the bathroom, Google Alexa and Dyson heater/cooler, as well as the massive TV screen and comfortable large bed were well worth the stay. Very modern indeed! We also loved the food and open restaurant and bar area. Again very contemporary and modern.
The only reason I did not give 5 stars was due to the extra gym tent which had been erected to one side of the car park, quite near to the entrance/building. At just before 8am we were rudely awoken to blaring music and the gym instructor shouting down the microphone as a class began. If you are an early bird on a night away then this is all fine and good but for anyone needing a lay-in or after a late night or had been drinking or gone to the local festival, this really wasn't ideal. It boomed out and echoed around the building.
A real shame as we thoroughly enjoyed our stay otherwise.
I’m a member of village gym Bournemouth but my family live in Portsmouth. I’d said very good things about the Sunday roast so we tried it and the selection was so minimal compared to Bournemouth. I felt like we were sat in a cafe not a restaurant. The turkey wasn’t cooked all the way through with pink around the edges and when we said to the server it wasn’t cooked through she told us that only chicken needs to be cooked through?! When we told the manager she said she was aware it wasn’t cooked through but continued to serve it. The food wasn’t warm and because the ‘restaurant’ was cold and blowing out cold air we were sat eating a cold meal despite moving tables 3 times. We had almost finished our meal before our drinks arrived. Very disappointing after I had high hopes from my experience in Bournemouth. Budget £9 roast dinner at best
The restaurant wasn’t very busy, but it took us ages to get service, the lady was very helpful and polite, when she had time to come over.
Very good value 4-course Sunday lunch made even more reasonable with the use of the gym membership card.
PLEASE get some more waiting staff though - I am not sure how many should have been working the restaurant tables but poor Miriama seemed to be left alone rushing between the tables. This dragged out our meal and also resulted in us going to the bar to pay the bill.
The poor service was due to the lack of apparent staff - Miriama gets 5 stars! 😄
Good choice of food, great value as children eat free. Three courses and as much as you want. Great for family gathering. Friendly staff, very obliging.
Enjoyed a Sunday Carvery with friends and the value for money was very good, especially if you enjoy watching sport on the large screen TV’s
2nd time of having a carvary from here and both times the food has been amazing with a very wide variety of starters, veg and desserts however I did find that another meat would have been better such as gammon or pork as I don’t particularly like turkey or beef.
I don’t often go to the effort of complaining but on this particular instance, I feel as if I should. My girlfriend and I had been looking forward to a carvery at your Portsmouth hotel. Once we arrived we felt as if we had made a mistake. We ordered our drinks and collected our food. There wasn’t much on offer at all. Very little variety but we guessed it may have been busy before our arrival so we sat down and ate what we could get. Over 15 minutes since being seated, our drinks still hadn’t arrived. I went to the bar and placed another order. It wasn’t even particularly busy. Staff didn’t seem too motivated to work either as many of them were just wondering around. I went back up to get more food and still no additional vegetables had arrived. I would have questioned staff about this but there weren’t many of them about. I felt that £15.95 for a carvery with the selection on offer was very very extortionate. Also, as advertised online, no ice cream. The one bit of table service we received the whole time we were there was when we asked for the bill. This experience has put me off wanting to try further facilities at the hotel such as purchasing a gym membership or staying in one of your rooms.
Carvery very disappointing and expensive. 1 slice of meat pet person. Luke warm overcooked vegetables. Instant mash, soggy roasts, watery flavourless gravy. Soup so thick and luke warm it was like eating gruel.
Ordered drinks as soon as we sat down, were almost finished our main course and had to go to bar to ask where they were. Arrived just as I finished eating and then the order was wrkng! Staff never came to check on us, tried to catch their attention but they seem to deliberately ignore eye contact.
Guests who came in later seemed to have been given as much meat as they wanted as their plates were piled high.
We were looking forward to eating here after seeing the email they sent showing photos and the description of the food. Absolutely dire, with drinks the bull was over £45 for 2 just got Sunday lunch and 3 of the 4 drinks we had were coke.
We won't be back and we certainly won't be recommended here.
Terrible service terrible food!!!!! Children waiter over an hour fir food, no plates to eat starters, drinks took over 20 mins from the bar right behind us, the supposed fillets steak skewers were Luke wam and forgot the children's chips
Disappointed with food, although it was only 7pm they had already run out of swordfish. Burgers were quite dry and chewy. Overall it was very overpriced for what it is. Main meals would have been about half the price in a decent pub.
Group of 6-age range 16 to 78-Stayed for 1 night. Everyone enjoyed the whole experience. Modern, clean, hotel with excellent rooms and staff and very good food.
Had Sunday carvery on Father’s Day. Food was good quality. With good options for starter and dessert. Booked online a week or so before for 8 of us. What made this excellent for me was the staff who were attentive, thorough in their explanation of service/ food choices. They were friendly approachable and whilst busy didn’t seem too busy. So good customer to server ratio. V good and will be back!!
Sunday dinner was lovely didn’t really like the ice cream sundae it tasted like there was loads ice in it but I was full from my roast so was ok will be coming again
This was an excellent value Sunday Lunch. The staff were welcoming and friendly. I felt the vegetables were overcooked, but my partner prefers them this way. You cant please everybody.
A very pleasant and relaxed dining experience overall. We will return.
A most enjoying and relaxing dining experience.
My only reservation, albeit a small one, is the tables could be cleared sooner. The food was delicious and plentiful. The staff were professional and friendly making the occasion memorable.
Had a very nice time but disappointed as asked for table to be dressed nice with balloons etc when rang to check they could do this the lady called Kelly said they could do this when turned up nothing I did explain it was my parents wedding anniversary and also my mums birthday so wanted something nice to turn up to but nothing!! So wasn’t happy! When informed the gentleman he didn’t seem bothered!
We had a very appetising Sunday carvery. A young lively staff provided super service..A most enjoyable experience..not to mention GREAT value ! Well done Village Hotel!
The venue is good and staff friendly but the service was disorganised, lack of communication and attention to detail unfotunately a negative effect on our experience. Although we did not complain one of the waiters overheard our conversation and did apologise he also reduced our bill.
A friend recommended this restaurant so decided to try it took some friends with us and they can be very fussy but what a surprise they thoughrly enjoyed it and have already booked another meal
Good value and enjoyable.
Wider selection of carveries would be better.
Excellent service excellent food not rushed , great value plenty of parking
It was our first time dining at Village Hotel. We had booked a table in advance thinking we could get a carvery in the evening, but it turns out they stop serving the cavery around 4pm, which was a little disappointing given that was the reason we went in the first place.
Regardless, we were very impressed by the decor and the bar/restaurant in general, and the service was initially very good, the lady that seated us took our drinks order and was very chatty and friendly.
Sadly our drinks and food took some time to arrive each time, considering there were only 3-4 other tables being waited that evening it seemed to be quite slow.
The food was very good, we both had a burger and we couldn't resist a dessert! We opted for the choc fudge cake and sticky toffee pudding.
I would definitely recommend the bar/restaurant to others as overall we had a good time!
Good service, nice and clean, food was tasty and hot enjoyed the evening meal.
Breakfast was fine would have liked an option of fried eggs from main dishes.
Lively vibrant atmosphere shame the Thursday night set menu for2 promotion was on a football night it was quite noisey the service was good the staff are very attentive & friendly but The food took ages to arrive (45 min) my partner ordered the burger which was very dry tasteless & hard round the edges can only assume it was microwaved from frozen i had the salmon which was very nice
