1st visit and it won't be the last. We visited Village Portsmouth for a weekend away and after a day shopping we couldn't be bothered to look elsewhere so we booked the table from our room, onarrival the bar was absolutely heaving but we were quickly shown to our table and the service was quick and efficient even though it was really busy.
Parsnips, roast potatoes were very over cooked and dry. Other veg was over cooked. Meet was very dry. It as was pretty much cold. Deserts were laughable they might as well been tiny tubs of cream. Eten mess had no macaroons. It would have been over priced at the normal price. Very disappointed.
After passing this hotel on many occasions and like trying different places to recommend. We finally had the opportunity to give it a visit. Not having any recommendations from our friends and family. We thought for our wedding anniversary, we would try it out. Our first impressions was, sports bar! Not hotel. We looked over dressed and definitely not a place to take my mother. Ordering food, was not clearly explained .My husband asked what came with the sea bass? Told it was rice. (It didn’t) luckily, we ordered sides. Which was rustic chips and salad. They both came in tin pots. I expect chips but not a salad. Would we visit again. Well definitely not or recommend. Sounds like it’s catering for people who like sports/watching. Many public houses cater in this area for this. Shame! ( budget hotel look) Thought you were a hotel.
Had the pre-booked set menu deal with a room booking. Good choice and very tasty with fresh ingredients. Staff were attentive and friendly, without being overly so.
16 of us, 8 kids, 8 adults for Sunday Lunch (carvery), fantastic value, great food and the buffet service was very professional.
Will be going back.
Excellent value. We had the two course offer as part of the room.
A long table for 8 is hard for everyone to join a broup discussion bit the meals were really good and a lovely waitress who made the evening even better. Very professional and friendly great job
Made booking for 3.30 arrived on time but table not vacated by previous diners so had to wait. Once we had our starters we had to ask our table to be cleared so we could have main meal. Surprised on 2 small slices of meat per person. Had to ask for gravy flasks to be refilled as all empty likewise with the sauces! Ordered drinks and had to ask 2 waitresses to see where they were and was told they were short staffed that day. Also was disappointed to see as we were eating our lunch the staff were closing down Buffett so when grandson asked for some gravy we couldn’t get him some as it was all cleared away. They took our choice of the only hot dessert and then told us they had run out! Not impressed at all. If when we made our booking for 3.30 we should have been told that we would have the end of the service with regards to food etc. Shame because we expected so much more as this was a new hotel.
Great place for food and drink and we have eaten here before. However, the chicken was caked in pepper and inedible and the fries were totally burnt and so we didn’t eat them. We were very disappointed as usually the food is great. The staff were great and replaced the chips however we did not have to to wait for replacement meal.
Staff need more training. Our table was not cleared very quickly and when it was cleared only half the table was done. Also the carvery was not checked if items needed restocking
The food was well presented, but is expensive. We didn’t get what we had ordered, but were happy to keep what we received, and didn’t tell the waitress, which was our choice.
We went out for a meal to celebrate our Wedding Anniversary.
It was busy when we arrived the service was good, although I was a little disappointed that a few things went wrong with our drinks and food order but the team quickly put things right for my fussy Husband.
A great value meal as a member of the gym; 25% off normally and 50% in January.
Good food and service; unfortunately the chef carving the meat was slightly rude when one of my guests returned for a second helping. That is the only negative.
Staff were excellent friendly attentive but not intrusive , food lovely
Slow service, food ok but very overpriced and small portions.
Went for the Sunday carvery with friends, very good selection, would definitely go again & recommend it to others
Was staring at hotel and decided to use restaurant.
Was pleasantly surprised with food, which was enjoyable. service was excellent.
choice for sunday dinner was not as good as previous. Roast potatoes were chewy and had to clear our table ourselves between courses although empty tables were being tended!
Gent who showed us to our table did not know what beers they sell. High table and stool not suitable and every time you moved the stool cushion moved. Chips not fully cooked. Desert was very good. The decor is not great as very industrial look which is not too my taste
Excellent food though service could be improved, which I’m sure is due to training of new staff as they only opened 8 weeks ago.
Poor service, staff seemed aloof and rather disinterested. Meat on ribs had to be hacked off - it should fall off the bone. Far too many cardamom pods in the rice.
I booked a special offer 2 dine for £29 and nobody had a clue what that deal was we ended up having to choose from the festive menu which was £20 per person. When the 1st course eventually arrived after 1 hour 20 mins the roast turkey dinner consisted of 1 slice of what looked like a bernard Mathews turkey roll a tiny stuffing ball 3 small roast potatoes 6 carrots a few parsnips and 5 sprouts! Then my mum and 2 sisters had pineapple crumble which was tepid and literally tasted like sick! So overall what was supposed to be an enjoyable birthday meal ended up with us all wanting to stop off at McDonald's on the way home! Not a good experience at All!
Nuce sunday lunch carvery, wide selection and good quality.
Bright modern restaurant, Helpful staff.
Staff you cannot fault but Sunday carvery was one of the worse I have had....watery tasteless gravy, dry tasteless beef, watery carrots, cauliflower cheese which u couldn't taste the cheese, stuffing balls very dry & Yorkshire puddings stone cold. Starters were a hit & miss mediocre pate etc. Pudding apple crumble & custard wasn't that bad but had alot better elsewhere. Paid £15 per person not worth the money.
One of the worst Sunday lunches I have ever had. I wouldn’t recommend it to any one.
Food was great, service was great but it was let down from a set up and a delivery perspective
we waited for over an hr after starter was finished to the main course being served. Free drinks or a reduction in the bill would have helped swallow that.
The bar is not yet stocked or set up fully, 2 draught beers off and some of the wine list not available or in the fridge
it has potential but it needs some management and planning to get it spot on
Very nice choice of menu and we enjoyed the atmosphere it was cosy on our table for two by window.
My husband was disappointed with the cappuccino.
