Food was disappointing as we’ve been before and was so much better, there was a very small amount of veg to choose from as it needed replenishing and dessert was an apple crumble unfortunately it tasted more like apple sauce which should of been served with custard but by the time that arrived the crumble was cold. We was also sat next to the bar and there was the England and Croatia match playing so was very noisy and rowdy.
The website stated a four course meal for the Sunday lunch. A starter, dinner and dessert was three courses. The staff although very pleasant had obviously not been briefed on what the fourth course was. Apparently there are two starters! The food was nice, as we have always found it at the Village Hotels. Screaming kids didn't help the ambience though.
We did not eat. We left as menu was for a noisy sports bar. Not for a restaurant
Really good love the new layout.
Just one thing the gravy on the carvery was a bit thin and watery! But could not fault the meats and everything else. Will be back
Good food at a very good price , been going there for along time never been disappointed .
It was our first visit to The Village Grill and enjoyed great food at a great price.
Good Friendly service and look forward to a return visit soon.
My niece and myself really enjoyed our Sunday lunch here. The staff were very friendly, welcoming and helpful. The only thing is I would like to see the return of a hot pudding option.
So loud now and not a relaxing place for Sunday lunch. Waitress service slow and comes with attitude. Food reasonable but will not return.
We didn’t stop to eat, it was a Saturday evening and football on numerous big screens , there was people littered everywhere looking at the screens, the noise was deafening, definatly not a place to enjoy a nice evening meal, ok for watching sport and a burger and beer.
Restaurant recently refurbished to meet the needs of the young as a social meeting place to view sports Tv in noisy bar atmosphere. Unfortunately not the place to be for a Super Sunday dinner anymore, shan't be returning again under this regime...
Was a little surprised by how much this had changed since the last time we were here - had I realised what is was now we wouldn't have booked.
The food is still good; however, the layout, noise and the fact that there are giant tvs etc means we won't be back.
Waiting around for drinks after ordered and had to collect from bar unfortunately we were on a time schedule which didn’t help. Fried food soggy and oily.
tables are constantly being moved, not much space between tables, soup was ok but nothing wow, would of been better if it was hotter.
Selection of starters was very good, no complaints.
Carvery was awful, served on cold plates, Turkey was ok but the gammon was far to salty, frozen sprouts and cabbage cut like coleslaw yuk, had to wait for gravey and whoever made the Yorkshire puddings shouldn't be working in a kitchen, very bland and the wrong texture.
Noise was so bad that we cancelled our booking and took our friends elsewhere to a quieter environment. Not at all what we expected.
Had to show 'poor' above as survey would not be submitted - but only had experience of breakfast which was good.
Had not been for Sunday lunch for a while used to come quite often. They have now moved the pub into the restaurant with massive tv screens everywhere. The atmosphere is awful couldn't hear yourself think you can hear everyone conversations and the tv screens are intrusive. Not a relaxing Sunday lunch anymore. The quality of the food is not as good the soup was cold the bread was hard. Not a good experience shame it used to be a nice place to go. Would not recommend.
Food was very freshly prepared and nice presentation
Restaurant merged with pub in same room. Noisy dining atmosphere. Unsuitable for family of 5 as small tables, noise and we were unable to get pushchair through restaurant easily. Child’s dinner fell to floor as high chair tray not on correctly. Staff replaced promptly as it was their error. Starter arrived with main meal and we got told we should have requested it as a starter as their till doesn’t recognise that it is a starter not a side dish, despite the item being on the starter menu. Waited for over 50 minutes for children’s dessert. The dessert never arrived and there was a quibble regarding refunding this cost. Staff friendly and helpful but poor dining experience overall. I would not recommend for families.
I booked for Sunday lunch for my family and friend from the US. The quality of food was extremely poor, the meat was dry, Yorkshire puddings cold and dry and poor selection of vegetables.
I tables very noisy incorrect food from the menus we were shown
Awful. This is not a restaurant it is a bar complete with massive sky sports screens and shouting. Totally inappropriate for family dinner.
Service was exexcellent food was plentiful and good.
But there was a football match on Hull City vs Aston Villa and there was much vocal support for the local club during our meal and afterwards until after midnight. ..which kept us awake unfortunately.
The restaurant is part of the bar.....
I tried to look for a way to contact you when I got home on Sunday but could not see a contact form.
The manager was particularly friendly and helpful. We had a elderly person with us who eats very little and I was able to get a reduced rate. The service from all who spoke to us was excellent. I only missed the hot puddings that used to be there.
Overall good experience but a few staff need extra training at the bar as they seem unsure what they are doing. Mash a little watery compared to previous experience and seemed to be slightly less choice than previous visits
Way too loud, made the eating experience most uncomfortable. We are due to meet up with friends soon and tried out the Village on our own. we will not be returning with our friends as we will want to be able to converse without having to compete with the level of noise in the bar area. Goodness knows what the level of noise rises to when the football season kicks off!! We were considering rejoining the gym/swimming pool membership, but after our experience on Sunday we have decided not to do that.
We used to use the restaurant regularly, but unfortunately hate the new design, noisy, unfriendly and bad service. Will not be goi g again
My only comments was gravy was very thin and watery
Service was fine nothing you wouldn’t expect anywhere however the food was to a very poor standard, basic frozen overpriced pub grub.
My better half expressed an allergy to mushrooms and the kitchen staff thought it was fine to just remove the mushrooms and return a cross contaminated dish back to her,she was ill all evening and thusly we had a miserable experience, even now 3days later she is still having abdominal pain due to wrenching so violently.I also believe the staff who dealt with us was more interested in covering their own backsides and hoping we would go away,I also believe we were lied to on more than 1 occasion. This incident had the potential to be life threatening, myself and my partner couldn’t be more disappointed and angry.
The new bar/restaurant is lovely, really warm and inviting. A much needed makeover and much better than the previous formal dining experience, more relaxed. The staff were really nice and attentive. The food was lovely, again much better than the previous menu. My only issue was the mussels i had, they were really tasty, but quite a few of the shell's had broken so i kept getting little bits of shell in my mouth :-/
No high chair ready for us or kids stuff such as crayons, menu and table mat offered despite it being clear on reservation that these would be required. Staff generally ok, but service was average at best. Food was really good.
Food was poor on this visit cold potatoes and vegetables and meat was tough, new layout doesn’t work well as starters etc are to close to the end of the carvery counter so becomes very crowded
Plates were cold which cooled the food down rapidly! Vegetables were not cooked sufficiently. My beef was quite tough albeit I had asked for some more well done as the blood was still running when cut which I do not like.
Great service and fantastic food
Great selection of food
Served quickly and waitress was lovely and friendly
Far too loud and busy. Food was cold and below average.
The restaurant has been refurbished but unfortunately as it is now completely open plan, the noise level was really high, such a shame as it was really nice before. I don’t know whether it was because it was Father’s Day but it seemed a bit chaotic. The drinks took ages to come and they came separately rather than together, we had to ask if we could have soup rather than our server asking us. We weren’t offered the promotional voucher when u paid the bill either. Food is nice though and it has been fine on previous occasions.
We were over charged for drinks, drought beer was off and had to be changed twice and drinks are very overpriced. There was not enough choice for carvery option compared to previous visits. Overall an ok time but probably won’t go back.
It’s the first time we have been there for a carvery and I have to say I would go back again.. the lady that served us was very friendly and was always asking if every thing was ok and if she could get us any thing.. the food was very nice I thought there could of been more selection of puddings but the puddings that was there was ok..
This was my first visit with my partner and son. The food was lovely, lots of choice at an excellent price and kids eat free. The 4 course unlimited meal option for Sunday Carvery dining is worth it. I believe from signage that the room currently used is only temporary as there is renovation going on in the usual dining area. Will be nice to go back a see it completed.
Food was great but the temporary room that was been used for dining was dark and dingy.
Spoke to manager about quality of food and setting. Tables were left dirty, food cold. Staff started removing tables before we had finished. Paid over £60 for poor food and was hoping with the temporary set up the manager may have invited us back for a complimentary meal to regain faith. But manager nowhere to be seen when settling up bill. Very disappointed. Stale bread. Hardly any variety and could count the carrots left. Mashed potatoes very unpleasant. Totally disappointed.
Only eaten at the Carvery and have not been disappointed
