The service and food were excellent so enjoyed dining in the restaurant. Just a shame that the food took quite a while to come out and we had to chase the staff on this matter. There were not many diners as we had booked towards the end of the evening so really more than a 20 minute wait was a bit excessive.
We visited for Sunday brunch with family.
Enjoyed the chefs table and the roast was great. We all enjoyed our visit. Would definitely return.
We had a voucher and I also had a discount for being a leisure club member 👍🏻
Nice environment food was nice fantastic service by all staff would definitely recommend Village Pub
The food was very good once it came. We ordered at 1.30 just 2 simple meals unfortunately the food did not arrive till 2.35.
This was my second visit for Sunday lunch. First visit week before was excellent. This time not so good. There was no staff to show us to a table so we found our own. No one came to take our order we had to ask. When food came it was very poor e.g soggy old veg on our Sunday lunch had to ask for salt pepper. Was given mayonnaise and red sauce !!
Understaffed very noisy with football match in screen. No cutlery for desert had to ask. Spoke to duty manager who agreed with our feedback. Full refund given.
Change of how they do the Sunday carvery. Does not flow as well as it used it. Limited main options and not hot pudding choice. Very disappointed. Service was slow.
Took ages to get served and had to ask several times for plates, cutlery etc. One person had the vegetarian nut roast and was horrified to find it had been served with a pigs in blanket! The noise from the football cane they a speaker right above our table and was very loud so difficult to have a conversation with everyone on table. Asked if could be turned down but never was. Tried to pay bill individually and we worked out what each person had to pay but staff could not put it through the till right. Food was nice although one person was sick on night so not sure if this was from food here.
I hated trying to eat my Sunday lunch from a wooden chopping board. Unhygienic and difficult eating liquid food such as gravy and cauliflower cheese from wood. It also made the food cold quickly. Whoever thought this was a good idea needs seriously questioning. I just kept looking at the knife grooves in the board from other eaters and kept thinking what bacteria is lurking in those grooves? Put me off. Couldn't eat it. Waste of money. I have been coming for years and that is a bad idea. Won't have Sunday lunch again unless it's on a clean hot plate. Could probably just about understand if it was steak and chips but roast dinner? Seriously?
What a shame! This used to be a brilliant carvery, however the restaurant has changed and now only offers food off the menu. There were 6 of us eating and we all ordered roast dinners (hoping it would compare to the amazing carvery), some child and some adult sized. 4 of us had our food after around 25 mins and the other 2 were nowhere to be seen, so we went and informed the bar staff and 15 minutes later the other food came. Half of the poorly portioned veg was raw, we were given no gravy or sauces and weirdly the children’s portion was bigger than the adult portion (served on a piece of wood) which is double the price. Sorry but it was Just generally not a good experience! Initially when we ordered 6 drinks at the bar, the guy at the bar said “yep, that’s £87” obviously we said that can’t be right and it took 5 minutes of arguing with him for him to realise that was somebody else’s bill. It felt like we had to manage the staff so that we could get our food, condiments, drinks and pay the right amount. It was really loud in there, however the football was on so I get that the staff can’t help if people watching celebrate. But if you’re after a decent Sunday lunch with a relaxed family atmosphere this isn’t the place.
We are regular visitors to the Village hotel groups for weekend breaks and meals. As we knew this was a lovely place to have lunch we decided to book a surprise celebration for my mums birthday. I booked this over a week before online for 4pm and 9people. I called several times to check the booking and no response the receptionist couldn’t get through either. We turned up early as planned and the waiter took us to our table. Our guests slowly arrived and sat for dinner. After asking three times a drink order was started - the waiter was polite and nice but said sorry he didn’t come sooner he had to clear tables and use a small tray and was having a bad day. This was fine we can understand job pressures. We then had starters which were lovely and a nice selection. The mugs were not there for soup so we had to ask for clean ones which were quickly brought over. As we question for carvery half the group at a time. Three adults had a carvery lunch but said no mash available. The other guests came up including the birthday girl and I and my daughter. There was only gammon left no other meat. No mash and no gravy not enough to make a plate of food. We asked to speak to someone but the response was their is only what is left. Eventually we were given chips for my daughter and some sliced oily wet turkey. Again no gravy and another couple waiting for food. No puddings left. We were told it was as the day was ending. I had booked this in advance so didn’t feel this was acceptable. We all ended up going to a local shop for snacks and back to my mums after a 40minute wait for them to bring her surprise cake out as the waitress initially asked had gone home. One waitress came with this and didn’t even join in the signing or wish happy birthday
Very good food, great value for money! All you can eat starters, carvery (including unlimited meat) and desserts. Also a hot desert included in this if you ask.
Service for drinks was a little slow but it was busy. Waiters and waitresses were all working hard.
It is loud now restaurant and bar have merged but as long as you aren't going for a quite/romantic meal it's fine.
But will definitely go again and have recommended to family and friends.
I was very disappointed as I had been before and was very impressed but this visit was a huge let down. We waited ten minutes for the chef to serve us at the carvery, he then had to keep running back and forth topping things up. The veg wasn’t topped up, Yorkshire puddings cold and soggy, gravy thick and lumpy. The servery area was a mess, puddings were not topped up at all. Overall it was not what I expected when paying £100 for a family meal.
The staff were lovely and friendly but either there weren’t enough of them or tasks were not efficiently delegated. A huge shame.
Our experience on Sunday was a complete disaster and ruined my husbands birthday celebration. We had booked for the carvery.
The noise level was unbearable, we couldn't hear ourselves talking.
The restaurant was very short on staff, I assume that was a management problem.
The service was terrible, there were no plates, the food ran out and also there were no desserts.
Other parties were also complaining and either refusing to pay or demanding a refund.
This is the very first negative review I have ever given any restaurant .
Pleasant atmosphere and a good range of foods to choose from. Good quality food
The food was lovely. We asked for our vegetables to be cooked more than normal and the kitchen did this for us. We were very grateful. The choice was good. The food was hot. There was a bit of a wait at the bar and it’s noisy in there which is a shame.
Our waiter couldn’t do anymore for us very polite and helpful, unfortunately I couldn’t eat much of afternoon tea as there was no allergy box when booked table and I’m allergic to peanuts and the peanut brownies where to close to other food, but what I did eat it was lovely,
I'm sorry to say this was one of the worst carvery' s that I have had. Nice that you have choice of 3 courses but the standard of the main was terrible. The beef was very tough, all the vegetables were under cooked and hard to eat, gravy was slightly brown water.
This is a real shame as I think it is done out beautifully so would only return for a drink and avoid the food.
Lovely food as always, great value, service was a bit slow but it was extremely busy so to be expected really. Thank you
Last minute booking we were shown to our table quickly and made to feel welcome staff explained how carvery worked as we had not been since they had refurbishment (which is very nice) food was lovely and staff friendly and attentive thanks
Been twice now and both occasions proved more staff are needed.
We waited 10 minutes to be acknowledged to be seated, the guy was flustered and rushed, our food arrived before drinks - 2 orders were wrong and had to be sent back!!! And they also ran out of 2 other items.
Brilliant food brilliant staff outstanding going again would not go any where else
Had a fantastic Sunday lunch with great selection of starters and deserts . Staff were very attentive and could not do enough for us making us feel valued and welcome throughout .
This was our second visit to the new layout and the new way of service... The first time was fantastic could not fault anything, service and food was amazing.. The second visit service was a little bit slower and we had to ask for our plates, but the food was still very good. We will definitely go again and would certainly recommend.
great selection of food friendly staff refurbished restaurant looks great
Great starter’s a good selection to choose from. Roast beef excellent all veg was well prepared. Best part roast potatoes. Deserts were excellent. Apart from the lemon sorbet was not keen on that. Ice cream lovely with chocolate topping. Definitely value for money will be going back again chris hadley
Eaten at the village hotel Dudley on a Sunday frequently in the past when it was the Verve . We have eaten once on a evening since refurb was good and expected it to be like a sports bar , decided to try it for a late Sunday lunch . We were extremely disappointed you could not hold a conversation because of the noise of tvs showing football . All the staff we encountered were new and struggled to keep up with customer demands .
Lovely atmosphere, love the new decor. Food good as always. However since the refurbishing there is no longer a hot desert option (used to love the apple crumble) and the waiting staff give you all your plates at the table when you order, which I found a bit strange. Had to ask for the dinner plates to be heated as they were cold but it wasn't a problem. Apart from this all good.
Love the refurb it feels so much better to eat in the restaurant. Food has improved a lot also. Staff friendly but you do have to wait a while for drinks they don’t rush. I only have two complaints no I have warm plates and no 2 do away with gravy jugs and bring back the pot with the ladle.
We found when we returned to our table after collecting our starters, plates for our mains had been left on the table, so when we made our way to be served at the counter for food the plates were cold, consequently the food when we arrived back at our table was going cold, there was always warm plates by the counter before the alterations. Also the table we were shown to was in the path of people trying to get through to the Bar and other places this was not very comfortable for us, in the end we had to move to another table.
Hope you will take this as constructive criticism.
Fantastic great afternoon food and staff fabulous will definitely be returning just missed the hot pudding
Staff are lovely and friendly in the restaurant. Great atmosphere
The service was shocking I’ve tried to email to complain not having much luck with that either
It was great food and friendly atmosphere just a little busy as u would expect on mothers day.
The roast potatoes were hard, there was green net in my sons mash potatoes we did report it to the staff member and my son was offered a drink.
I have been to the village hotel before and had a lovely time, but I must say it was disappointing.
Food was a warm not hot, but i appreciate how busy it was that day.
Always enjoy the carvery. Plenty of choice and fresh. Staff are so friendly and willing to help with whatever you need. Can't wait to try the new restaurant.
We are a group of cousins who live in different areas of the country & regularly meet for Sunday lunch at the Village in Dudley.
The carvery was in another room due to the renovation aim the main restaurant. The staff worked really hard to make our meal enjoyable & couldn’t have been more helpful, they were excellent!
The food was lovely as usual & we had a great time thank you. We look forward to the next time!!
Enjoyed as always staff really friendly and happy despite them being temporarily in a different area making their job more difficult whilst refurbishment taking place. We were made to feel very welcome as were out two small children. Thank you
Restaurant closed for refurbishment. Should have been informed when reservation was made!!!!!
Although the restaurant was under construction-the alternative room we were sent to was not adequate to be used as a restaurant. The staff were slow and all complained about each other and not being happy about the current situation. There is no doubt this situation was not normal but still the whole temporary restaurant has been poorly planned.
