Very disappointed I booked it online for a sunday dinner, when I got to the restaurant the lady in charge couldn't find my booking but she said thats fine and gave me a table, she took my order straight away and I ordered my 3 year old a kids meal. The adults went up as its a self service, but nobody was serving the meat eventually after 10 minutes a girl came out to serve us. The food was nice but it was only warm the gravey was only warm which spoilt it, as for the food it was nice but unfortunately warm going cold which is a real let down. The adults had finished but my 3 year old was still waiting, so I went up and asked what was happening with his meal? The same lady who served us, asked if I had ordered a meal for him I said I had gave her my table number and she looked on the computer and apologised said it was her fault the kitchen didn't know? I was angry but sat down and waited for my sons food. The lady didn't offer anything for making the mistake normally you would have a good gesture but she didn't offer anything. I had been to the same village the previous sunday but it was late fore a sunday dinner at 15:30 again nobody was behind serving the meat so the food was only warm. They had no roast potatoes so I told the guy who served me and he said the will be a couple of minutes and said he will bring them over to my table but he must have forgotten as he didn't bring them over. I have used a lot of village hotels normally for weekends away with me and my wife and we really enjoy them. We are booked in to the one in coventry in a couple of weeks to stay for the weekend, so hopefully we wont have any problems as its my wifes birthday. I definitely wont go back to the walsall village for a meal again which is a shame as its the nearest to me.
Good selection of starters and desserts, main carvery good choice and meat was cut thicker than usual carveries, there was a small issue waiting for gravy and Yorkshire puds to come out which meant I had to hang around with my dinner getting a bit cold, but apart from that really enjoyed it and would definitely return
Great meal . Staff very friendly. Food was faultless and very well presented and very good value .
Booked two course set menu amazing value. Only small fault package came with glass of fizz we never got . But all round Brilliant . Would highly recommend
Great service .excellent food . be careful of gravy jug . as I was pouring the lid fell off and went over my hand and over the counter . I asked a server to wipe it up a d she did ..
We went on Sunday as had a £50 off voucher was was nice starter was my favourite park my beef had blood run out of it so put me off a little and think the desserts could be a little better but over all not bad
Been twice now service was brilliant staff were so pleasant and food was beautiful highly recommend the Walsall village
All good but don’t clear tables very quickly staff were nice but think not enough of them
Been many times never had a bad meal an good value
Enjoyed our evening, thank you for the balloons to recognise it was in fact a graduation party. My only slight negative comment is please can you scrap that cheese paste used on the nachos starter, it would of been perfect with normal cheese, really not a fan of the tasteless paste cheese used.
Last time we came you had table service etc this time it was done at the bar which took away from the experience. The food wasn’t amazing, some was barely warm and other trays were empty
We preferred the facility when it was a proper restaurant. However as it has now changed to more of a fast-food outlet, that was fine though we thought the drinks prices were rather on the high side for that type of establishment. The staff are clearly working to a more hands-off, self-service regime; they do an admirable job and are helpful and friendly.
Very pricey for what seems like a casual pub, no table service either, long wait at bar.
Food was very nice but took quite a while to come out, the staff were very plesant and friendly but would of liked table service.
I dont think I would go again when for the same price or cheaper you can go to places like miller and carter.
Sitting eating a meal with the football on and having to go to the bar yourself may as well of had a meal at weatherspoons.
Think the pub needs to decide if its high end or casual. I
Table booked for 8 for fathers day.
Had a confirmation email.
Then on fathers day at 9.40 am i had a call to say u were cancelling my booking as there had been a booking error.
Obviously it was fathers day and we were unabme to get a booking elsewhere .
We are a member of the village hotel and as a family spend over £140 per month and totally disgusted by this service. This is not the service we expect.
This runied my husband day as we was unable to get a table anywhere else.
I have keep all proof of the booking and email confirmation.
This booking i believe should have been honoured. As this was your mistake not ours.
My husband has sent a email of complaint to the village but as yet no reply.
Not happy with this and await a reply asap
All I can say is fantastic. We went on Sunday 9th June 2019. With my husband and 2 granddaughters age 4 and 8 .we were greeted lovely a waitress asked if the girls would like an activity pack then taken to our seat . the starters were lovely the carvery was great the chef was the most happy chef I've seen. I asked if there were any cold plates for my grandchildren. He went and got them straight away .great service by him. Thank him for me.. The deserts were lovely and the girls loved the icecream machine ..then came out the biggest ice cream dessert I've ever seen .one of the waitresses said how well behaved our granddaughters were which was lovely to hear..overall a great Sunday lunch and the waitresses were lovely made us feel welcome thanks to all the staff .well recommended will certainly return..
Celebrated my husbands birthday at the Village hotel pub and grill .Food and service was second to none .Will definitely be back .
Good value for price but down on service as you need to order from bar as no waiter service
The music was very loud. The food was tasteless-salmon with rice and burger were tasteless . Chicken strip starter was average and the chocolate cake was beautiful. I booked on line for Sunday lunch and 2 members of staff who were new knew nothing about the online offer and we then discovered it had finished earlier in the day which was not made clear on site.
In the past I would of always recommended to friends, however not on this occasion, tiny plates for starters, beef like shoe leather and the choice of puddings next to nothing. Add on top of that about half way through our meal the commentary on the football went from silent to deafening leaving us unable to have a conversation. We left as quickly as possible ☹️
A big disappointment overall. No hot puddings, asked about the soup to be told I’ll check but didn’t come back. Don’t know what prompted the change but it’s definitely not for the better Not enough choice of starters or desserts.
Service could have been much better initially as we had to ask about the offers, the menu etc. The carvery tasted lovely however could have been a lot warmer and more of a selection for the veg and no sage. Good value for money with the amount of food you could have with unlimited salad, carvery and desserts.
It was mother’s day but quite chaotic I felt .the soup and prawn sauce were very spicy and not a lot of choice or actual desserts
Very poor service. We wandered into the seated area and the staff had not set an area out for us even though this was Pre booked. We had to place our own drink orders at the bar as no one took our orders and were then expected to collect them from the bar! The food was completely cold and the sports bar area was incredibly loud due to a large group of 10 men or so laughing and shouting
The meal itself is very good value for money and the food plentiful but how this can be called a ‘Restaurant’ since the refurb is against the trades description act it is like having a meal in a football sports bar complete with loud spectators and various HD video screens you cannot hear yourself speak (the staff cannot hear you either ) and there is nowhere to escape it’s even complete with cinema chairs and loud spectators- I have no issue with football in a sports bar but not in a HOTEL RESTAURANT it’s clearly been designed for maximum revenue what is ridiculous is the old bar which has also been refurbished is beautiful and lying empty except for special events ?? It needs noise calming measures at a bare minimum afraid we won’t be going back - on a positive note staff were trying their best but it was at best organised chaos
Lovely food huge portions. Layout has changed huge refurb since we last went not as quiet in restaurant sadly as it used to be. Staff are amazing super friendly
The food was cold. We’ve been a few times and you just can’t get hot soup, custard or even gravy. Such a let down because it has the opportunity to be amazing.
Been before it wasnt too bad but when I went with a friend the other night I found very poor. The waitress did serve our meal but when other people came in we waited for over 3/4an hour for her to ask if we needed another drink or a sweet. We had to call her over. The day after my meal which was salmon with black bean rice and teryaki sauce which I thought was ok. I was really poorly the next day. I will most definately not be returning.
20 minute wait to be served at bar, 45 minute wait for starter and another 35 minute wait for main course! Steak over cooked, roasted tomatoes missing from both meals and no bacon on the mixed greens. We were then charged £13 for two cocktails we never had!! All in all a disaster and at £81 plus drinks very expensive. We won’t be coming again
Pleasantly surprised at quality of food. Good value. Attentive waitress. Good family atmosphere
Excellent Food and service, would highly recommend.
Absolutely disgraceful I booked a table for 2pm and we arrived at 1:45 and was told to wait a while and get a drink . We was waiting for a table that we was told we was getting that was occupied by another couple and they was just seated so we waited 15 min and they was only just getting up for there main meal and was told to look out for another table so we dicided to leave after 30 mins and went else where!
Poor service and incredibly expensive. Not value for money and had to pay high end restaurant prices to sit in a noisy with football blasting. We are members and will not return again. Very disappointing
Long wait to order as I asked to wait for my colleague to arrive - after he got in, we waited at least 10-15 minutes before being serviced.
After 3 times confirming that I would like to just have the meal billed to my room, I ended up paying by card.
Nothing bad to say about the food though.
Yes I would... nice location and the refurbishment has made the venue more inviting m. Food was ok but too peppery
I really didn’t enjoy my meal here.
Booked on a 2 can dine for 29 voucher.
The menu was very limited, what I chose was small portioned and not very warm and quite tasteless - apart from the chicken.
The dessert wasn’t pleasant either despite being one of my favourite flavour combinations. The wine was good but after a 6 hour drive to the hotel I was really hoping for a lovely warm meal and was dissatisfied.
Also the staff didn’t really understand the voucher at first, our server had to consult someone for every question that we had and showed us the main menu, before correcting their mistake and giving us the select menu which had nothing really that appealed!
I wish we’d eaten a la Carte and had the menu been shown when I was purchasing the voucher I would not have bought it
We have eaten at the village many times however this Sunday was different.
First of all no one came to seat us, once we had asked at the bar we were left waiting even though we had a reservation. I understand requests cannot always be given but we asked for a high chair in the booking but one wasn't given.
We weren't asked if we wanted the soup starter. The whole duration of our meal not one person asked if we wanted a drink. We wasn't served or asked about desert then when I asked for some custard a girl brought it to the table but with no bowl. Our starter plates were still out when we helped our self to ice cream, however one lady who took the plates did apologise at the time for this.
Cheap but not very organised. Food not very warm and just seemed like a playground for children. I feel like it not very comfortable too much like a market hall rather than a hotel .
Family Sunday lunch for husbands birthday. Great food and good value. Everyone enjoyed
Went with the hubby after working on Sunday.... couldn't fault the meal at all .. will definately be going back
We have dined here several times but this was the first time since the refurbishment. The changes are all excellent but for one major difference. The food, prices, staff and quality of the refurb are all top notch but the restaurant has done away with the alcoves and small seating areas in favour of a totally open dining area. To me this has ruined our dining experience as it is now too noisy. We found it hard to communicate clearly and as several nearby tables were occupied by families who allowed their kids to run around the area at will it spoilt our meal. The open dining decision for me was a big mistake and we will not be returning.
The carvery was awful. Very limited selection. Cold. Unappetising. Didn’t look very hygienic. That goes for all courses of the Sunday lunch.
