Not bad value pity no desserts staff friendly. Need a bit more voice of appetisers, too much fish.
What a shame we’ve been to the village before and had a wonderful time. Unfortunately this time round I found the service terrible it took well over a hour for the food to come out we sat for a very long time before our table was cleared the staff was to busy playing with the cutlery. Won’t be returning.
A new format. Tables not laid makes it uninviting. Good quality food. Service mixed. Some great people some not
Having had several enjoyable Sunday carvery meals here in the past, my wife and I invited two friends for a Sunday lunch. We were shown to our table a 1:30pm and we didn’t finish our three courses until 4pm. After getting our starter and finishing it we waited an hour for out main course to arrive. It was luke warm when it arrived and cold when we finished. 30 minutes after we finished this course my wife had to go to the bar and ask staff to clear our table.
We were embarrassed to have brought our friends here. A mistake we will not repeat.
The restaurant has certainly gone down hill.
Sunday lunch. No longer a carvery but brought to you instead. Food was great, hot and generous portions. Delighted to be given extra gravy when requested. Big choice of starters help yourself probably the best feature. No idea about pudding, was too full. If you like the idea of silent sky sports news updates at every angle, you will be happy.
We had a dirty starter plate old food stuck to the bottom. Waited 50 minutes for our roast didn’t come until we asked for it. We all had the turkey roast which was no pleasant at all stuffing balls were hard as rock and one came out missing half the items. Wouldn’t recommend we went ther about 4 years ago and it was amazing real shame.
We booked for Sunday dinner - 6 people at 5pm. Arrived to 3 or 4 gigantic screens showing football. The whole restaurant was heaving with furniture rearranged to face the TV’s. it was so loud you couldn’t hear yourself think. No carvery at all and assume we’d have had to order bar food. We had a tiny table set up for us in the middle of the crowds and noise. We declined to stay and went elsewhere. Dreadful which was disappointing as we’ve been many times over the years. It’s now more like a pub than a restaurant.
Never liked the change to a huge noisy sports bar, but the food was always decent enough and good value. The carvery is now gone, was told we would need to order food at the bar. We had just spent 15 mins at the bar getting a drink and finding a member of staff to get us seated. We was also informed kids no longer eat free. Gutted! This used to be a great value family friendly carvery. We finished our drinks and went elsewhere for our Sunday dinner. We have also cancelled our Black card gym memberships as this was the last straw for us. Both and the gym and the restaurant used to be excellent and the savings we got with the Black card were great. Standards have dropped massively. Such a shame.
Having never been here before I was told there was an amazing carvery which we were very much looking forward to. We had booked with friends, when we got there despite not being busy at all at the time, our table wasn’t ready and we waited following around the staff for a few minutes who didn’t know where they were seating us. They told us the unlimited carvery had gone and now it’s a menu between turkey or beef. We waited for an hour and then went to ask where our food was, of course less than a minute later our food came out. Freezing cold and the beef was wafer thin strips and bright red. After hearing another table was also comparing of cold food twice, we decided to send the food back. The waiter was great and agreed he would send it back too, offering is a refund straight away. He said they have had nothing but complaints since changing the carvery. The unlimited starters were however very lovely, just ruined by the long wait and inedible roast dinner. Such a shame.
Changed from a carvery to a set menu. 1 person behind the bar serving everyone. No staff at all. Food cold and not served all our party at once. Gravy like water. Absolutely loved the value and service of the Carvery and can’t see why they have changed. My advise is don’t go there. Staff did try but fighting a loosing battle
Numerous issues from start to finish! The food order was wrong at till point and we told them 3 times that we wanted 2 beef roasts only to have 1 turkey and 1 beef turn up! The starters were lovely but they were self serve and i think that's the main reason why that part of the meal was plain sailing! Food came out cold, table wasn't cleared, puddings were wrong and the overall service was non existent. The place looked lovely following the refurb but some serious work is required on the food and the service in my opinion.
The table we reserved for 8 was sat at by 2 people eating sandwiches - we had to sit at a different table by the window - which was cold!
Table not cleared. Long time for food/drinks to come out, service very poor - need more staff!
The roast dinner was awful, cold, dry and microwaved. Got a full refund
Food was freezing cold on a wooden block kids roast veg were sprouts and cabbage. Desserts were NOT desserts they were continental breakfast.. yoghurt, croissants and muffins that was it!
Despite making a reservation, receiving an email confirmation and a 2nd email asking me to confirm that I still required the reservation, there was no table reserved for our party of 4. I know that it was the rugby final but there was nowhere near enough staff on duty, minimum 25 mins. to get a drink. When we finally got to the breakfast buffet there were no eggs, bacon, mushrooms or sausages left. They were replenished later but the queue was so long that the food continued to run out. It was obvious that there was no control as many people were just helping themselves without paying. I would have asked for a refund but despite asking at the time of handing over £40 I was not given a receipt.
Although I booked a table when we got there we were told to go and sit anywhere and then go to the bar to order food.
No, I'm afraid not. The music was over the top loud, so not the sort of atmosphere to enjoy a leisurely Sunday lunch. I don't like the idea of serving a Sunday roast on wooden boards - not hygienic and not good for holding the gravy. I asked for a plate, which my request was granted by very helpful and friendly staff. I have never seen a prawn cocktail with just prawns and sauce in a glass jar! Not very good at all. The roast turkey was very dry and so was the cauliflower cheese, which was a solid lump. It was not good value - luckily I had a 2 for 1 voucher (which the staff didn't know what to do with it) but I would not have been happy to pay full price for this dinner.
There was not enough staff, we waited long time to give our drinks order, then waited for drinks.
Staff were difficult to find when needed
Food was fine and it was reasonable with kids being free but the restaurant is way too big @ open if there isn’t any staff. We wouldn’t rush back unfortunately .
The food at the Carvery was good quality but the starters and puddings were small and the choice of puddings was limited at 2pm when we had ours even though the restaurant had not been busy at the time. We had not used the Carvery before and we had no explanation as what to do etc. The waitress served us our drinks but did not come to the table after this. We paid our bill at the bar. The restaurant was quite noisy with TVs etc. We were on a two for one offer. We would use the restaurant again but would not have the Carvery as would not consider the full price good value.
Did not know it was a sports bar, so be prepared...
food was good but no service at the table, ordered at the bar or via app.
Unfortunately this is a sports bar and not a restaurant and if you're looking fir a quiet meal don't choose here unless you can lip read!
Good choice for starters and mains. Lovely meats. Puddings were poor, had to remind staff several times to get ice cream and drinks. No choice of hot puddings and waffle machine not there anymore. Dreadful tv screens everywhere so you can’t enjoy a quiet family meal. Music on top of that was too much as well. A shame because the starters and mains were gorgeous
The new layout is awful. I appreciate the business from football matches however instead of keeping tables eating to one side we were in the middle of all the beer drinking with kids. There was little to no veg on the carvery and when requested was not replenished. Have eaten here several times but this will be the last after it took1 hour for lunch to arrive the day before as well! Very disappointed.
I would recommend for a special occasion dinner , because of the price. The basic bottle of Rose wine was over priced . The food was tepid but well cooked . The staff were pleasant and helpful . We did not see a price list any where which would have been helpful .
We arrived early and was welcomed by two members of staff, who escorted us to a table straight away. Served quickly and our food/drinks order taken. After that it all went down hill! 1hr to receive even our starters by which time everyone around us that had arrived after us had all been fed and some had even left.
Food was lovely when it finally arrived but for the price, we expected service to be much better!
Been here previously,No separate restaurant anymore. Had to order at the bar. Food was from a limited menu but it was ok. Unfortunately no ambience at all, just loud.
After over an hour and a half wait we finally got our food as they had sent it to the wrong table. The booking for the table wasnt needed as we were sat in the bar not a restaurant. Overall bad experience and one I wont be doing again.
Awful way over priced horrible carvery . Soggy roast potatoes. Stuffing balls that could do serious harm so hard . Watery gravy . In edible beef . Watery ice cream . Starters just sat out getting warm prawns how dangerous. Warm trifle coz sat out . All in all pretty disgusting don’t bother
We had a really great experience. The food was beautiful the staff were really friendly and we had a great time.
The only tiny issue we had was that the chilled desserts tended to warm a little on the side which affected the consistency of them.
Very noisey, was not told there would be football on huge telly screens, when there was a goal scored it was even worse. We paid good money for our food and evening there. It was not pleasant sitting in the dining area. We were unable to hear each other talk. Did ask for a quiet area, was told we could sit anywhere, but there was no area without the noise. Bar people who served us, could not give us the time of day. Only one lady who served us was polite. We ordered 4 puddings, only one came we had to chase up the other 3 puddings. We have been here before with no compliant, not sure what has happened, but would not go back
It is a buffet system which was not explained before we sat down. Had to ask for someone to come and take the drinks order and not all drinks arrived together despite the restaurant not being busy at the time. Table was NOT cleared at all until we asked after having had starters, main and dessert and all the plates had been stacked up by us on the table in the middle. It was a party of 7 adults and one child!! Were offered a free drink when we complained which was after the meal so what was the point!! Used to be an amazing place to eat and will probably never return now
Great place, friendly staff, gluten free roll was like a brick but the rest of the food was lovely.
Abouslty terrible food was cild and some stuff uncooked gammon ran out and was told 3 4 mins 15 mins later still no gammon was told another 5 mins ended up with dry turkey. When when we left gammon was still not out had to wait 5 mins for gravy. And area very messy. Very noise environment more like being in the middle of a pub rather than gone out for a nice meal was a total embarrassment as this was for my mother birthday. Would never return and would not advise any one who was thinking of going
We arrived at 5pm to be told there was no meat left on the calvary that we had booked for!
Manager offered to cook chicken but we said no we should get the choice, as it’s a Calvary.
So we had Calvary with NO meat! We then had vegetables etc, which was cold and tasteless. NO gravy and very very hard Yorkshire’s to the point you couldn’t eat them. We did complain and we wasn’t the only family to complain. The manager squashed our Calvary bill and we only paid for drinks!
We had a brilliant meal at the Village Hotel for Fathers Day, the food was amazing I would like to have seen more of a selection of Starters and pudding. As the hotel has been refurbished recently i was hoping the menu would have changed too. I was ok with the starters but my Partner and daughter just sat there while i tried the food as there was nothing that they like apart from a Bread roll.
Sunday carvery was appalling and a complete rip off!
Have complained to head office and will not be returning
When we arrived at 1 pm it was relatively quiet; however, the noise became intolerable by 2 pm so we did not hang around. The starters were OK, the main meal was good (but went cold quickly), but the desserts were extremely disappointing, i.e. jelly not set in the trifles, Eton mess had something red and runny in it and nothing else was available at the time. The ice cream melted almost immediately so got very messy with our 3-year-old.
The biggest disappointment was expecting to pay £13.95 per adult but being charged £19.95 as it was Father's Day. The best surprise was the free beer for the 2 dads and the future use vouchers.
We will probably visit again, but not on a special day.
Sunday carvery - Great choice of good quality food. Really tasty.
Poor. They've turned it into a "sports bar". Very limited choice for set menu and want an extra £5 for a steak. Long wait at the bar to order food, staff clearly stretched. I'd advise the pubs in Bearsted instead!
Dining experience was completely overthrown by multiple TV screens showing sports. Dinner and loud yobbo’s cheering does not make a relaxed dining experience. Clearly this place is trying to appeal to too many niche markets. Food was mediocre.
