Village Pub & Grill - Village Hotel Maidstone
There was not enough staff, we waited long time to give our drinks order, then waited for drinks.
Staff were difficult to find when needed
Food was fine and it was reasonable with kids being free but the restaurant is way too big @ open if there isn’t any staff. We wouldn’t rush back unfortunately .
The food at the Carvery was good quality but the starters and puddings were small and the choice of puddings was limited at 2pm when we had ours even though the restaurant had not been busy at the time. We had not used the Carvery before and we had no explanation as what to do etc. The waitress served us our drinks but did not come to the table after this. We paid our bill at the bar. The restaurant was quite noisy with TVs etc. We were on a two for one offer. We would use the restaurant again but would not have the Carvery as would not consider the full price good value.
Did not know it was a sports bar, so be prepared...
food was good but no service at the table, ordered at the bar or via app.
Unfortunately this is a sports bar and not a restaurant and if you're looking fir a quiet meal don't choose here unless you can lip read!
Good choice for starters and mains. Lovely meats. Puddings were poor, had to remind staff several times to get ice cream and drinks. No choice of hot puddings and waffle machine not there anymore. Dreadful tv screens everywhere so you can’t enjoy a quiet family meal. Music on top of that was too much as well. A shame because the starters and mains were gorgeous
The new layout is awful. I appreciate the business from football matches however instead of keeping tables eating to one side we were in the middle of all the beer drinking with kids. There was little to no veg on the carvery and when requested was not replenished. Have eaten here several times but this will be the last after it took1 hour for lunch to arrive the day before as well! Very disappointed.
I would recommend for a special occasion dinner , because of the price. The basic bottle of Rose wine was over priced . The food was tepid but well cooked . The staff were pleasant and helpful . We did not see a price list any where which would have been helpful .
We arrived early and was welcomed by two members of staff, who escorted us to a table straight away. Served quickly and our food/drinks order taken. After that it all went down hill! 1hr to receive even our starters by which time everyone around us that had arrived after us had all been fed and some had even left.
Food was lovely when it finally arrived but for the price, we expected service to be much better!
Been here previously,No separate restaurant anymore. Had to order at the bar. Food was from a limited menu but it was ok. Unfortunately no ambience at all, just loud.
After over an hour and a half wait we finally got our food as they had sent it to the wrong table. The booking for the table wasnt needed as we were sat in the bar not a restaurant. Overall bad experience and one I wont be doing again.
Awful way over priced horrible carvery . Soggy roast potatoes. Stuffing balls that could do serious harm so hard . Watery gravy . In edible beef . Watery ice cream . Starters just sat out getting warm prawns how dangerous. Warm trifle coz sat out . All in all pretty disgusting don’t bother
We had a really great experience. The food was beautiful the staff were really friendly and we had a great time.
The only tiny issue we had was that the chilled desserts tended to warm a little on the side which affected the consistency of them.
Very noisey, was not told there would be football on huge telly screens, when there was a goal scored it was even worse. We paid good money for our food and evening there. It was not pleasant sitting in the dining area. We were unable to hear each other talk. Did ask for a quiet area, was told we could sit anywhere, but there was no area without the noise. Bar people who served us, could not give us the time of day. Only one lady who served us was polite. We ordered 4 puddings, only one came we had to chase up the other 3 puddings. We have been here before with no compliant, not sure what has happened, but would not go back
It is a buffet system which was not explained before we sat down. Had to ask for someone to come and take the drinks order and not all drinks arrived together despite the restaurant not being busy at the time. Table was NOT cleared at all until we asked after having had starters, main and dessert and all the plates had been stacked up by us on the table in the middle. It was a party of 7 adults and one child!! Were offered a free drink when we complained which was after the meal so what was the point!! Used to be an amazing place to eat and will probably never return now
Great place, friendly staff, gluten free roll was like a brick but the rest of the food was lovely.
Abouslty terrible food was cild and some stuff uncooked gammon ran out and was told 3 4 mins 15 mins later still no gammon was told another 5 mins ended up with dry turkey. When when we left gammon was still not out had to wait 5 mins for gravy. And area very messy. Very noise environment more like being in the middle of a pub rather than gone out for a nice meal was a total embarrassment as this was for my mother birthday. Would never return and would not advise any one who was thinking of going
We arrived at 5pm to be told there was no meat left on the calvary that we had booked for!
Manager offered to cook chicken but we said no we should get the choice, as it’s a Calvary.
So we had Calvary with NO meat! We then had vegetables etc, which was cold and tasteless. NO gravy and very very hard Yorkshire’s to the point you couldn’t eat them. We did complain and we wasn’t the only family to complain. The manager squashed our Calvary bill and we only paid for drinks!
We had a brilliant meal at the Village Hotel for Fathers Day, the food was amazing I would like to have seen more of a selection of Starters and pudding. As the hotel has been refurbished recently i was hoping the menu would have changed too. I was ok with the starters but my Partner and daughter just sat there while i tried the food as there was nothing that they like apart from a Bread roll.
Sunday carvery was appalling and a complete rip off!
Have complained to head office and will not be returning
When we arrived at 1 pm it was relatively quiet; however, the noise became intolerable by 2 pm so we did not hang around. The starters were OK, the main meal was good (but went cold quickly), but the desserts were extremely disappointing, i.e. jelly not set in the trifles, Eton mess had something red and runny in it and nothing else was available at the time. The ice cream melted almost immediately so got very messy with our 3-year-old.
The biggest disappointment was expecting to pay £13.95 per adult but being charged £19.95 as it was Father's Day. The best surprise was the free beer for the 2 dads and the future use vouchers.
We will probably visit again, but not on a special day.
Sunday carvery - Great choice of good quality food. Really tasty.
Poor. They've turned it into a "sports bar". Very limited choice for set menu and want an extra £5 for a steak. Long wait at the bar to order food, staff clearly stretched. I'd advise the pubs in Bearsted instead!
Dining experience was completely overthrown by multiple TV screens showing sports. Dinner and loud yobbo’s cheering does not make a relaxed dining experience. Clearly this place is trying to appeal to too many niche markets. Food was mediocre.
Great sports bar. Food mediocre. Buffet style. Soup cold. Carvery good, desserts not so much. Website says cost from 13.95 for carvery from being operative word I appreciate but is 18.95 think this should be made more obvious.
Good food, however we went for a quiet lunch and was sat by the bar right next to huge TV's. I went for a meal not to watch TV. Staff friendly though.
Yes for the food, no for the service. Clearing of plates took far too long- we cleared these ourselves and put them on the next table. Upon booking a table, I requested a high chair and we were allocated a high table and chairs with no high chair. Once asked for, a high chair appeared however the table was not an ideal height with a little one in a high chair accompanying us. It was also very loud.
First time we booked for Sunday roast and we were not disappointed!!
Its a large seating area and modern - the staff were very helpful and explained everything to us
Its an unlimited three course Sunday roast for £18.95 per person
The unlimited starters ranged from small prawn cocktails, tomato and red pepper soup, pate, cheeses, mackerel
The roast meat was beef, turkey and gammon
The veg was sprouts, cabbage, carrots, cauliflower cheese, roast pots and mash
All of the above were excellent and if you wanted any more of the above then you just go back for more meat, veg and starters!!
There were small fresh fruit pots, trifle, cheese etc... for pudding
Excellent value, great staff and lovely venue
Nice food, good service, ruined by the noise levels. Music too loud, sound carried in the room since they’ve updated it and merged the pub and restaurant - very noisy, could barely hear people at my table speaking. Won’t return, shame cos the food is good
Food was cold, and not as on menu was very loud even with few people in. Tables not cleared and dirty.
I must say I was highly disappointed with our meal. I was treating my partner and friends for a night out with a bite to eat and a couple of glasses of wine. When we ordered at the bar for our food I was using some vouchers I had and upon payment I was told I couldn't use two vouchers in the one transaction, which fair enough was okay so we did 2 separate transactions as there was 2 couples. We sat down had a glass of wine and then my friends starters came, they wouldn't eat until ours came so I popped up to ask was ours coming? At this point I had asked could we get all of our mains together which the lady said no problem. We were waiting 15mins for our starter and our friends were now cold at this point, so needless to say I was disappointed. Thankfully our mains cam together. Both mine and my friends sweet potato fries came to us cold in which we had asked a waitress could they be replaced. My steak I asked for medium-rare and it came out well done so I returned that too. In the meantime our chips came out which were clearly just put back in the deep frier as they were over cooked! My partners chicken kebab was cold on chewy as the chicken was over cooked, my friends burger was over cooked also. Overall it wasn't a great experience and has put me off coming back again. Although I had vouchers to use it's not the point the bill was £127 and it was unacceptable service. When I approached the duty manager in charge whom was a lovely lady but her response was I'll say it to the chef. In my opinion it was unacceptable and highly distressing for us all, I felt terrible that I was treating my friends and partner for a nice meal which turned out to be a disaster. I'm not one to complain as I'm very easy going and I appreciate that sometimes things happen but this upset me to think that the restaurant wasn't even busy and it was okay to hand meals up like this! I definitely won't be back to eat here again.
We celebrated a birthday with family as we have done before at the Village and this was our first visit since the changes and refurbishment. We found the service excellent from the staff but with regard to the ambience, found it very noisy with the big screens etc. It was not possible to really enjoy the atmosphere we expected of the restaurant area. Unfortunately too, although the food was plentiful the roast potatoes were ot cooked long enough to appear roasted and some of the vegetables were over cooked. We always enjoyed our meals at the Village but are not sure we will visit again for a while.
Very noisy as next to the main bar and sports tv etc, limited starters and deserts, beef was very good
Unatentive staff, directed to a table where we sat for nearly 20 minutes before we where even offered drinks. Had to ask 3 times before we could get the bill, very poor service.
So busy... food was cold, overbooked fables so it was super noisy I could hear the people I was sat with. It’s become more of a sports bar, when we first arrived we couldn’t get through to the table due to crowds. Watching sport. This ruined the atmosphere The drinks were ridiculously priced, £9.55 for a double vodka... no Thankyou! Throughout our meal we didn’t have a single waitress meaning we collected and ordered our own drinks the. We’re expected to pay a service charge. All staff are young, under trained and a little clueless. I have eaten here before and every time I go it seems to be declining
The Carvery was really nice and perfectly cooked.
Unfortunately that was the only part that I wouldn’t fault. There was no one on meet and greet, the server went awol and we had main course plates on our table till we finished. Had to go and ask for the bill.
It’s a nice place but the staff need sorting out and need to have a passion for customer service. We will go again but not for a special occasion.
We had to queue to bed seated but that was not too bad but when we sat down we had to wait 15 minutes to be asked if we wanted drinks. The rest of the service was not bad
Hi there we was made to wait 40 mins before we had a drink are table was ready at 1pm there was no service had to look and ask other customers were everything was and how is works we left at 3.15 on my having 1 drink in that whole time had to pay on wait out. Food was lovely but the worst service ever.
This is no longer a quiet hotel restaurant but an extremely noisy sports bar! It was dreadful, we arrived for my birthday, a quiet night away without the children, as soon as we arrived for our meal, we had to find someone to be seated and asked if this was the only restaurant as it definitely didn't have the ambiance I wanted for a couple's night away, we waited 40 minutes for a drink, they had no pineapple juice for my 1st choice of drink and the stella had to be changed over, when the food arrived it was lovely, although I didn't get the bread roll I had asked for, never again! The revamp has changed to whole vibe for the worse.
Since the redesign the dining area has merged into the bar. This meant we couldn't hear a thing whilst eating dinner as it sounded like we were at a football ground. The roast dinner is okay but it is not a nice atmosphere, certainly not somewhere you could take young children.
The restaurant was much too noisy and we will never go there again. There was music through one set of speakers and too huge televisions broadcasting different sports channels and four televisions above the bar in the middle of the restaurant. We met up with friends and we just could not talk with them. There was no way we could enjoy coffee at the table after lunch. The refurbishment has totally changed this hotel.
