Very nice place, warm and welcoming. Could not fault the food or the service. Was not rushed in and out and enjoyed our evening out. Would have no hesitation of using again or recommending to others.
This was our 3rd visit
Lack of service is unacceptable.
Every time we had to wait a very long time to be seated. Staff just ignored us.
On our first visit we had Sunday lunch , Veg looked lovely but meat had a lot to improve . 3 thin slices of cooked meat ( looked like cooked sliced beef / cooked turkey you get in Tesco ), food was served on the wooden board , it was warm. Our daughters received their food after good few minutes during this time our food got completely cold . We didn’t complain.
This Sunday waitresses and manager spend more time in the kitchen than on the floor.
They didn’t even clean the tables around us.
We had to ask girl from the bar to clean our plates. Then after about 20 minutes had to go and ask to serve us. So disappointed
Such a lovely place and good chefs as we see improvement in Sunday’s lunch . All you need is good waitresses/ waiters on the floor.
Have been previously and everything was great when there was a cavery. This time was for my birthday and we were both very very disappointed. The starters were not labelled prior to service and weren’t until we were leaving so had no idea what most were. Main courses were lukewarm at the most, I had a roast and my daughter the steak frites, the roast was mainly cold, I have never seen white stuffing balls ah that was because they couldn’t have been in the oven for more than 5 minutes, carrots and Brussels were almost raw as was the limp cabbage that had graced the plate along with 3 roast potatoes that couldn’t be described as roast more boiled than anything, gravy was watery and served in a thermos flask. My daughters steak was very tough and fatty with cold chips also no mushrooms as noted in the menu. The waiting staff were polite when they appeared but very inexperienced as didn’t know anything about the menu really. I did complain as I didn’t eat very much of the food and our drinks (soft) were removed from the bill but still felt that £27 was steep for what we were served. Back to Toby cavery for us which is such a shame as also members at the gym and enjoyed a swim and then lunch there on a Sunday
Whilst i understand that this is a hotel, the price for a plain burger and fries at £10 and rising to £14 is scandalous judging by the size of the burger.
Otherwise staff and ambiance of the dining room were great.
We have been to a Sunday Carvery before which we enjoyed. Your advert notes all day dining it does not mention that there is a pub like menu for the afternoon and a different menu if there is one for the evening that’s if there is a different menu for the evening. It was our wedding anniversary and we wanted to try something different, whilst the food we chose was good the menu choice was limited not having waitress service, going to the bar to be served I felt was poor, in fact with that and the limited menu choice we nearly left to go elsewhere, waiting a while at the bar to pay our bill (no staff for at least 5 mins) was quite frankly annoying fortunately there were no other customers waiting, overall very disappointing
Great food, delicious, though we were disappointed that there were no deserts left. So they had to bring out these tiny and dry chocolate brownies which needed cream of something at very least. Book early slot to avoid disappointment!
When we arrived there was no starters out and we had to ask, our roast dinner was warm not hot had to send back to be hotter had to ask for the sauce and the gravy they took ages to clear plates had to ask for them to take them so we could have deserts, picked deserts and they were not nice very warm and runny which cheese cake shouldn’t be like that! The other deserts were the same not nice at all, service very slow and needed prompting!
Lively fun venue. Staff excellent. Meals well cooked and presented. Reason for 4 stars not 5 is menu could be a bit more wide ranging.
Ordered drinks on arrival and didn't receive them for 20 mins. Ordered 5 meals 1 of the meals without onions as the person ordering has an allergy. When his meal arrived it had onions in the side salad and in the burger. The waiter said the chef didn't think a red onion was an onion..... There was also onions on the burger. Ordered a different meal and this one arrived without onion about 15 mins later than the rest of the meals. Although this was then not charged it spoilt the evening.
Food was poor service not great, this is second time we’ve had a bad experience here thought we’d give it another go.
Won’t be back !
More like sitting in a pub than a restaraunt but Sunday lunch buffet was very good. Service not that good, had to ask for a waitress more than once, but if you can accept that (which we did) it is definitely worth a visit
The whole experience was poor. They ran out of food for the roast which meant two of our party didn't have meat. They ran out of parsnips and greens. I plated my meal for them to run out of gravy and then had to wait 10 minutes for more gravy. It was a truly poor experience and I will never go there again.
Really great food at a very affordable price. There weren’t too many people whilst we were eating and nothing seemed rush unlike other carvery’s locally.
My First time for a Sunday Carvery at the Village Hotel and I wasn’t disappointed. There was a very choice of starters the Roast dinner was very good I chose the Roast Beef which was really tasty and very tender my only complaint was the roast potatoes and parsnips had lost there crispness but this is only a minor complaint overall the meal was tasty and unlimited. A good choice of deserts too I chose the Ice cream sundae and the Cheese cake both of which were very nice. My wife who was vegetarian was offered the nut roast which she thoroughly enjoyed. Overall a very pleasant Sunday Roast and will definitely return in the near future
Sunday roast very poor all hard and cold could not eat it had full refund
Beef was super tough - inedible. Staff friendly and attentive. Drinks over priced
We had sunday lunch, great value for what you can get and the kids eat free which is great news! Food wasn't as good as last time though, wonder if it was because we ate later this time, meat a bit tough and the cauliflower cheese was really stodgy
Fantastic service and good will be coming again for sure
Lovely meal, waiter brought a complimentary glass of champagne for me
And my partner as it was her birthday , nice touch from the.
Would recommend the meal and the hotel , lovely atmosphere and building
So good as usual!
Very light and airy, food good, we had lunch and enjoyed the experience.
Arrived and shown to a table, straight away asked what we want to drink without being shown a menu. Waited for 10/15 minutes with no menu still. We asked to have a carvery but were not instructed how it works or if we had to wait for a plate etc. So had to grab a waitress to ask if we could go help ourselves. The pood was very poor, had no flavour and was dried up. The sundae was just ice cream with a bit of chocolate sauce drizzled over (mainly on the outside of the glass). Nobody asked us how our meal was at any point. When the bill came we were shocked at the price of the carvery and also the drinks (a tea and coffee nearly £6) as we hadn’t been given a menu the whole time we were there. Complained to the waitress about our experience but nothing was resolved so we paid and left never to return.
Bright and airy restaurant with comfortable seating. Good selection of staters and main meal was hot and tasty. Will return.
Very good food and fast service
Had second thoughts when given a tablet to order you food and drinks on but easy to use plus staff very helpful. We had fish and chunky chips . Chips were chunky and hot plus fish just fell apart when cut into.
Had chocolate cake and cream for desert the caje was to die for . Top marks all around .
Good service but let down by tough roast Beef and absence of horseradish.
Carvory was ok, nothing special, the meat portion was very small one slice of beef and one turkey, the beef was far to raw, just brown on the edges, and raw in the middle the sausages had run out and told that was it, veg average nothing special.
Waitress didn’t explain starters/main / desert to us just left us to it. No option for just mains, and one party member wanted just veg and potatoes no meat or starter/desert and they didn’t offer this, when booking it said limited time at table etc due to being busy, we were the only table?!? overall I wouldn’t rush back
We went for my birthday and maybe because the table was booked quite late for Sunday carvery 15:30, I found the vegetables disappointing, the meat was delicious. There wasn't much in the way of desserts left either. Will go again but a lot earlier.
The rooms in the hotel are well equipped with lots of gadgets but the actual size of the rooms are really small (mine was on the 5th floor). Whilst ironing I almost had to stand on the bed...there is no place to put/store anything. Quirky I think is how best to describe the rooms....it’s like they had too many ideas for each room and have tried to cram them all in a quite compact space. We ate in the restaurant and the food was nice and tasty but the service was absolutely abysmal. I got the idea that the staff didn’t really know what they should be doing and it was 75 mins before we were eating our mains.....we ordered 4 beers. They were poured and left on a tray on the side for what seemed like an eternity. In the end one of us went and got them ourselves
The staff were very nice but the actual service was both disorganised and chaotic. We had to wait a considerable time for both our drinks and my poor 10 year old son had to eat his meal alone after his order was not actually sent to the kitchen: from the start of the evening we
Unfortunately had to ask if our drinks were coming after waiting 20 minutes, we then had to also remind staff what our drinks were, indicating they had not been done in the first place and again had to wait. Secondly, my sons main food order was completely forgotten and we had to ask staff if it was coming after receiving all ours and waiting for his. Again it was apparent the order had not been done as the head waiter ran to the kitchen then ran to the till to get the order, then after a few minutes came back out with an excuse that the delay was because the ‘chef had made the sauce for the pasta too hot and would have to re-do it!!’, so it had to be quickly cooked resulting in him eating his food alone as we had all finished ours way before hand. Although staff were very apologetic, it did ruin the evening in that we had to keep asking for both our drinks and food order and in particular we couldn’t all eat at the same time because my sons order had not been communicated to the kitchen staff
I have already sent an e mail of complaint.1-only 2 meat choices when 3 are advertised on your website.2- Yorkshire’s were rock hard.3- roast potatoes were hardly roasted at all.4- the gravy was in thermos flasks and congealed when you poured it out.5- the starters & sweets were not covered or on a coldplate, they included meats, cheese & cream so would not have been the correct temperature.I never complain but this was the worst carvery i’ve ever had.My husband agrees & he’ll eat anything.
Disappointed with the selection, the chef who carved the meat didn’t look like he wanted to be there.
My family and I love it at the village for breakfast and Sunday carvery
Friendly service. Atmosphere of a sports bar rather than a restaueant.
Food ok. Served quickly and of a reasonable standard.
Amazing food, good atmosphere and lovely service. Very modern.
The carvery meat was very good but the vegetables were overcooked and very uninspired and not hot enough and the gravy was more or less cold. Our waitress was lovely and informative. Wouldn't rush back for a carvery but would try other things on the menu.
Restaurant was very busy due to the cannon ball run also taking place at the hotel. Disappointed with the delivery of mains to the table - we hadn’t yet finished the starters and the main course was “plonked” in front of us. No offer of apology was made, and no offer of any sauces. This wasn’t just to our table that this happened too.
We went on a very noisey day due to Portsmouth playing at Wembley which normally would of very annoying but that ended up being the best part of the meal. The food was below standard, constantly running out of stuff, very very dry, starters and deserts not fresh/ not changed regularly. Service was very very slow, I constantly had to raise my hand to get attention which I find ridiculous and rude. It’s a shame because we had been before and everything was great and had recommended it to people but after that - I won’t bother.
Mother’s Day is definitely not a good day to have carvery at village grill. Food wasn’t up to it’s usual standard.
Beef was tough, grisly and almost cremated. Turkey was dry and tasteless. Although I love my food; I left more than half of my plate. All in all, the meal was not a good value for money.
We will avoid busy special occasions in the future .
Disappointed by the dining experience for the following reasons:
1) Service and communication by all members of bar & restaurant staff was extremely poor.
2) The cutlery was dirty, the water glasses were stained with water marks and finger prints, and the tables were sticky.
3) The Carvery menu and website menu all listed specific meats for Sunday lunch, but not all meats were available
4) A regular menu item; Fish & Chips had sold out and the server was not sure when the item would return
5) Ordered a cappuccino and asked what selection of milk was available and the reply was “only regular, but if you want something different than you can always go across the hallway to Starbucks”.
The bar, pub and restaurant staff are all disorganized, disinterested and severely lack customer service experience.
As usual had to wait over 10minutes for the Maitre De ( or anyone!!) to welcome us and and show us to booked table but this is quite usual for this restaurant - having been before several times and really enjoyed their Grill style food it didn’t matter. We had taken friends for their first visit so thankfully they knew no different as the food standard has taken a massive nose dive. Apparently they’ve just changed their menu - which meant not everything was available as they were between menus but we weren’t even told this til we tried to order!!! Then although garlic bread was nice, when the skewered chicken arrived it looked & tasted like one long piece of processed meat not like the previous fresh chunks they used to serve. The chips were now a pile of cold skinny fries on a bread board whereas before they were hand made chunky fries in a side bowl to keep them warm & the chicken Kiev was dry, tasteless, with a dry green salad and again cold skinny fries - very disappointed although our waitress was very attentive & friendly. BUT sadly we won’t be going back again ☹️
