Very good food for the price & staff were fab. The restaurant is quite nice
Beautiful food and very friendly staff. We had the Friday night deal which was really good value for money.
Decent meal whilst staying over at the hotel - two happy teenagers
We arrived at 2pm to drop off Birthday cake, table booked for 3pm but we didn’t get seated until 15.45, whilst waiting I rec’d email for being no show. I went to the bar 3 times to ask when our table would be ready and was told the same thing each time, we’ll get someone to look into it. The Carvery was cold and horrid. We were given a free drink but as my husband & 2 sons were driving and my daughter in law is nursing a 4 week old baby you got off lightly as they were all on soft drinks. I have been to the hotel on several occasions to hen dos etc and have always had value for money but won’t be coming back.
Very busy because of football. Starters were very nice however mains were a bit disappointing.
Service was extremely slow. Waited 40 minutes and asked 4 times for them to bring out a birthday cake we had dropped off the day before, to then be told they had lost the candles. Due to the delay we missed our train and had to wait an hour for the next one.
Food was good service was good the dessert menu isn’t the best could be a lot better
We had a lovely meal. I think it would be better if they done offers on 2 or 3 course meals. Staff where friendly and service was excellent
Food was amazing and service was excellent. Only downside was that the restaurant is at the back of the bar so it was extremely loud when trying to enjoy our meal.
Sunday carvery lovely and hot
Starters good choice
Where has the Apple pie gone off menu x
The food was lovely and decor impressive. We are members at the gym and receive 25% discount off the bill so found it expensive at £25 per head for one course and one drink when we just wanted a quick bite to eat before going out. Sadly I think we will only be back for drinks and to watch a sports event as there are much better food options locally.
The place looks OK, and I had high expectations from Village.
Unfortunately the food quality was bad.
We did the carvery, buffet on mothers day - 1pm sitting.
The carrots were over cooked and soggy, The cauliflower cheese looked like it had been there for a long time, and wasn't very tasty.
The meat was OK. 2 choices: gammon or beef.
The very worst were the Yorkshire Puddings - horrible stodgy rubbery things - probably the worst I've ever had.
Disappointing from Village - won't be going back.
We weren't aware this was now a "sports bar" and we had to compete with the loud music and massive screen tv's with football on!
The area where the food was served was far too small. With children collecting their own food there were many spillages. My Mother (who's in her seventies) slipped, and feel to the floor banging her head on the wall as she did so, landing on her hip and shoulder. She was helped to her feet by I presume the bar manager who simply wanted to take her name and address to meet your health and safety requirements but nothing else. There were not signs to indicate the floor was wet either.
Very disappointed ,took mum for mithers day in sat 30th .Loud and rowdy. Not a relaxing restaurant area anymore ,no ambience.
Didnt get as far as the food ,we left.
I was bit disappointed to be honest. The main course was excellent cannot fault it. But, the starters and the deserts were rubbish! We've been many times for Sunday lunch and it fell short this time. The set up was all wrong; people squeezing past each other. Had to ask and wait for ages for bread rolls then for the butter to put on it!
Not great. Menu available was not the one advertised. Didn't have our booking. Had to send back food, only after having to find staff to be able to inform them. Seem to be a new team and new system may give them time to settle before trying out.
The Village Hotel has a rep for being high end. Not tonight. It was rowdy and packed with inebriated people. There had been two important sporting fixtures shown on TV and the place was like a back street pub. The menu was not as advertised on the website so we left in disgust. I will definitely NOT be recommending this to anyone.
went for a meal with the wife on 15 march
booked a table for 7pm all ok with that could not get the app on my phone to order food and drink had to order at the the bar it was very bizzy for the staff I ordered the food and drink was told bring it to are table waited about 25 minutes for the food my meal was sent back wrong one sent 10 minutes later got my meal fantastic food but still no drinks had to ask at the bar again come about 10 minutes later as had none behind bar when we got them top was left on had to back to the bar to ask them to remove tops from bottles meal come on a wooden tray plate would have been better service was ok just a bit rushed great evening as the wolves won would recommend the meals fantastic food and staff thank you Mr William Smith
We’ve had Sunday lunch here a few times and the food/staff are great. Last Sunday we were served in s different room as the main restaurant was being refurbished. Not ideal really as the room was very cold and the food wasn’t very hot Either. It was served from portable trays that were lit beneath to keep warm. This method wasn’t very effective. The desserts weren’t displayed very well really. I know it’s only temporary but it could have been much better. The waiting in staff were attentive and lovely as always.
Had it been made clear that the restaurant was closed and the meal was being served in a brightly lit atmosphere free function room using portable food heating equipment I would not have kept my booking.
Other than the beef, which was very nice, the rest of the carvery food was awful, with the potatoes in particular being cold and inedible.
The table booking was made on line. There was no information given about the fact that the restaurant was closed for refurbishment and that dining would be in a large function room that had little atmosphere and too large for the number of diners present. Food was good and value for money. The service was ok except that the waiter cleared the table before all of the diners had finished eating. This made us feel uncomfortable. I will probably use the restaurant again once the refurb has been completed but feel that I should have been made aware of the situation before booking
We came on a recommendation for the carvery and also following a meeting that the GM had attended.
I booked a table for 4pm, on arrival noticed that the normal main restaurant was closed due to renovation so was sent to a function room down the bottom end.
When we came into the room it was very noisey due to being in a compact space there was a very large table with lots of young children on it. This was not the fault of the restaurant that they were out of control but they were running around.
My husband ordered the soup and the rest of us went to the self service area for a starter. Was a little concerned that it was not refrigerated as it was prawns, pate etc.
The waitress brought the soup which was cold and taste burnt. My husband told her and she said sorry, later coming back stating it had been caught in the pan.
The carvery itself the meat was all dried up and the veg and potatoes didn’t look nice at all. I asked was there fresh meat and if the veg would be topped up.
Fresh meat was brought out but no fresh veg or potatoes, the chef tried to carve the meat but his knife was not sharp enough so proceeded to hack at the meat to get some off. The beef was almost black and very dry. We left the majority of the main meal.
The pudding was not much better it was spotted dick which must be left under a hot plate in the kitchen in which could not be even cut with a knife!! So would not recommend this restaurant at all!!
Myself and my family have been coming to this hotel for years and we love it staff amazing can’t fault anything or anyone and New Year’s Eve was great although I’m not a late night person so was in bed for 10.30 but really enjoyed every minute .
Excellent carvery sunday lunch. Have been many times and every time has been excellent. Will book again soon
Price is the thing that let's it down every time
Nice food, pleasant serving staff and an excellent and friendly restaurant manageress.
Went as a treat for my grandson and his fiance. Carvery was very good as well as starters and afters. My members discount of 25% brought cost down. Will go again.
Sunday lunch carvery very good. Buffet starters and deserts nice. Drinks service very slow.
Lovely staff. Great value as I had a two for one voucher for the carvery. However, £16 full price not bad for all you get and the quality of the main course roast was fantastic. Lovely selection of starters from the buffet and very good dessert choice to. My only issue with the dessert was my lemon cheesecake (from the buffet table) was not at all chilled. The staff were constantly filling up the starter and dessert buffet tables but I am unsure that there was any system to ensure items didn't sit out too long? My mum had a fabulous hot pudding though - jam roly poly. I think there should be a separate price for small children as I was not really OK paying £7.95 for my 4 year old who ate such a small amount. Great price for bigger children up to early teens. I like it when you get 2 children's menus/prices in restaurants.
It was a nice meal but I felt it was overpriced for what you received and the service could have been better I believe! But we did enjoy it
Nice Sunday dinner carvery with a great selection of starters and deserts.
Sunday roast - great for kids as no waiting involved due to it being buffet style. Food was very good for the price.
Excellent food, best carvery we have had in a long time! Service by Ben was excellent
We booked from the special 2 course for 2 @ £29.Great value for the money. Celebrate birthday.
Not much too chose from. Expensive.
Missed the carvery very limited menu. Disappointed over all
Nice Sunday Carvery. Excellent manageress who appeared to be going out of her way to look after customers and other servers young but friendly.
Nice vegggie curry ..with lovely accompliments.staff very friendly and helpful.
Nice family Sunday lunch. Waitress and waiter were very friendly and approachable. I explained i had a nut allergy and He checked what i could and couldn't eat.
Great value for the carvery which is just one of the many courses included. Self service for a range of starters and waiter/ress service for the Soup. Also self service on some desserts but also some options that they will serve for you too. Children eating free is a great option and its a nice restaurant. Friendly staff and clean and food of good quality - especially the carvery itself. Starters include peppered mackerel, soup of the day, pate, prawn cocktail, tomato & mozzarella, etc. You can have as many starters as you wish but don't spoil the carvery. Desserts are nice - include Ice Cream Sundae, Eton Mess, Chocolate Mousse and Lemon Cheesecake. If they had a cheeseboard option it would be perfect. Waiter/ress service is good for drinks too.
Service was poor, not enough staff for early a full afternoon restaurant. Getting your own drinks is not why we go the restaurant and plates from starters there for a while. Food and place is great!
Great setting lovely atmosphere and great friendly staff
