Village Pub & Grill - Village Hotel Warrington
Had to wait ten minutes to order Food for my 5 year old son. They were more interested in serving alcohol as the football was starting. I was chatting to a couple next to me, I said it’s annoying being ignored while people are doing nothing. I was heard by who I assume was the bar manager, he asked what I said. I repeated it, and he said I shouldn’t be rude. I explained I was talking to the couple next to me, and so was not being rude. However, being ignored at the bar by his staff (without someone even saying “I will be with you in a few minutes”) was rude and poor customer service. Rather than apologising about my wait and understanding from a customers point of view that no communication is being ignored and poor customer service, he went straight into defence/attack mode. He is not cut out for bar/restaurant work. As his customer service is shocking. Even as a black card member I won’t be eating there if he is working. He needs to be retrained by management or moved into another role that isn’t customer facing.
The food was delicious so thank you to the kitchen team.
Unfortunately the service was poor. The staff were either untrained, under trained or just didn’t care about their jobs apart from the person who was in charge who was very organised and efficient. When we arrived for our pre booked meal, we first had to wait 10 mins while they had a staff meeting. Then another member of staff arrived late. The person leading the meeting then told them it was unacceptable on the restaurant floor.
We then waited 15 minutes for our drinks to be told by the staff ‘we don’t have any pina to make your drink’.
We have been to many Village hotels and had food but unfortunately this time it was let down by the staff who didn’t seem interested or like previously said were untrained.
Thank you to the kitchen staff and manager for sorting us out. Our feedback will be passed onto the hotel when we receive the phone call back from the manager.
Arrived at location, no reserved table as it was presumed we'd cancel because of the weather (why?) and no starters were ready.
Had to ask for a plate from behind the bard when they were. On a previous visit the person behind the bar came over to our table to explain how the system works and what choices were available. This didn't happen occasion.
Sta on a table next a large family group who were offered the privilege of having the meal explained to them but then decided that rather than sit down they'd spend the next 30 minutes standing about two feet away from the table we were sat at affording us no privacy whatsoever.
Main course took at about 45 minutes to arrive, actually quite nice. The two young waitresses were helpful and pleasant. Deserts looked like left overs from breakfast so didn't bother.
Terrible, booked a table online and when we arrived it was full as the match was on. We where then told our reserved sign had been removed by someone. Finally seated 45 mins later for at best! pub food and twice the price. This used to be an experience coming here but now just feels like an expensive sports bar. Wont be returning.
The village has really gone downhill since last time i was there, now looks and feels like one of the old Pontins holiday camp restaurants, except the food was better at Pontins. The food was awful, most of the starters were fish and left out on a table in the heat and the soup was coloured water with salt added to taste. The main meal was just as bad the meat was covered in fat and the Yorkshire pudding was like a hard biscuit and for sweet you had the choice of a croissant or muffin. Service was very slow also and there didn't seem to be any supervisor around. For the prices they charge you can get far better at many other places, so won't be going there again.
We stayed here about 3 years ago & had a pleasant experience in the restaurant. It has now changed to more of a sport's bar which serves food. Nobody came to take our order & I couldn't get served at the bar so I went & found a staff member in the hotel reception area for help. Eventually a waitress appeared & we ordered our food.
We then ordered a bottle of house white only to be told they had sold out!! Food was lovely, so compliments to the chef, but service awful. This is run as a bar which sells food, not a restaurant.
The Sunday Carvery has been taken off the menu which is a big shame! There did not appear to be enough staff on & there were long delays between the mains coming out!
Food was great as always but the service was poor. Shame as we frequent this resturant alot and the service is nowhere like it used to be. Were likely to return half as often as we used to.
Great place to watch sport
Only issue on Saturday was the plates were left for a while after we had finished eating (approx 45mins) I went and asked for the table to be cleared
Great first visit will return for more food and drinks
Although the food was very nice, we had reserved a table and when we arrived it was close to the bar. We were mid way through our meal when a large party arrived and literally gathered around us putting things on our table passing drinks over us. I was furious as it was our Anniversary we were not just there for a few drinks in a bar. It totally ruined our evening so instead of staying in the restaurant we went back to our room. It was very disappointing.
Friendly staff . Lovely food .pleasant atmosphere Thank you
Overall disappointing, website said it would be traditional Sunday roast so we booked a table. However we arrived to a noisy pub full of Liverpool fans watching football, our booking was acknowledged but no table was ready and we were led to a sticky messy table with mess on the floor too. We were further let down when told they weren’t serving Sunday roast! Service was basic, several members of staff but they looked tired and hassled, so it took a while to be served at the bar. We understand it’s now more of a sports bar but it would be nice to have an area that appeals to a broader customer base and not just noisy football fans, as it was difficult to enjoy our dinner. On the plus side the burgers were good and once the football had finished it got a bit quieter. I definitely wouldn’t go back in the evening or when a sporting event takes president over general dining customers.
Used to be a proper restaurant with a separate bar. Now been mashed together and in trying to be everything does nothing well. Average pub menu in a brightly lit environment doesn’t make for any intimacy. A totally forgettable experience
I would recommend for the general menu and for watching the footbal and/or sports, we however where there for the Sunday carvery, the new format is horrible as are the newish selection of starters, unless you like oily fish or avocado, also the carvery buffet is gone, and now replaced with options of the menu, and the desert selection was terrible, the ice cream station has disappeared much to the kids disappointment, along with all that the cost has now increased, wont bother with the village as a Sunday destination going forward.
We thoroughly enjoyed our meal at The Village, everything was good, however we had huge problems booking a table. There was no answer on the phone number provided, and the number provided on the booking confirmation was invalid! We could only book online for 1, 2, 3 or 4 people, but not for 5 as we wanted. We booked for 4 then had to go there to request adding one, only to find out that we were the only booking they had anyway! Apparently the phone is in the office which is neither manned, or heard, when the restaurant is open. I’m afraid The Village are going to lose a lot of business if they don’t put this right quickly. Such a shame as everything else was perfect.....the food was really good, all 5 meals, great presentation, good quantities, lovely presentation, the service was great and the restaurant has a lovely atmosphere. We will definitely go back, if they answer the phone, or allow more than a 4 person booking online!
Food not ready when we arrived, serving main course on wood is not acceptable not only is it unhealthy but our plates would spin around as we are trying to cut up our food. It is certainly not a place that I would be recommending to anyone
The carvery is a great choice of starters (re-visit as many times as you like) and then the carvery itself which is great plus there is then a great choice of desserts and an ice cream machine (the kids love this obviously). It is a vibrant bar atmosphere now with lots of sports screens so good atmosphere and you can still have conversations without the noise taking over. Staff are very helpful and friendly if sometimes a little under the cosh at times so can mean you wait at the bar can be longer than normal.
Good food though in a good location - ideal for football on Sundays too.
Love this place, amazing food with amazing staff - Thank you Village
Lovely lunch carvery with the family. Two choices of meat. Usually have three I think. Small choice of about four vegetables. Enough for us. Good value with my club membership.
Four of us all had carveries. The soup was really nice and the selection of starters like prawn cocktail , mozzarella plus others were very tasty and unlimited. Carvery meats were excellent and the vegetables hot and tasty. Selection of sweets and ice cream. Good value too especially with members discount.
Excellent as usual, the only disappointment that there were only beef and turkey on the carvery (lamb and gammon being my favourite).
Carvery is excellent, lots of choice! The only downfall was that the veg was not hot enough
Very happy with the service and the food was brilliant.
Great atmosphere and good value, lots of variety to choose from, could do with mixing up the veg and deserts as we have visited twice now
We have visited here in the past where it was table service and a nice calm atmosphere. This time however, we had to order drinks at the bar where there were not enough bar staff and the food was dried and seemed like it had been sat out for ages. The restaurant has a diner/canteen type feel with music blaring at times and the noise level was really high due to people trying to talk over the music. Desserts... Nothing hot, although the brownies where nice. The ice cream machine was good if you could work out how to use it as it kept switching off and needed all buttons pressing by a staff member before it could be used. This visit was a child free meal for us since our second child arrived but it didn't feel relaxing or like a treat at all...
We have stayed at various village hotels in the past and found it a welcome experience. However not this time totally changed fee for leisure use , no proper restaurant as in past not somewhere you would invite a guest to eat , it was like a MacDonald with rooms, and they left a lot to be desired, no wardrobe no where I. Room to apply make up bed and pillows hard and uncomfortable. We were booked for 2 nights however one was enough. Won’t be back . I filled the previous page re dining to get to here but we cancelled our dining reservation and ate elsewhere.
Modern feel with a wide lunch selection
Didn't really get a hostess feel on arrival, and kept having to go to the bar to ask how we ordered etc. Might just have been us, but other than that food was good and nice atmosphere
The starters and desserts were left out and not chilled, and there was a lot of fish that should have been chilled, I've of the parties did have a really bad stomach all that night and we think this was the reason why, also not much choice for desserts as just seemed like cheap mouses had been made, dinner was nice but gravy was too watery.
Great food and venue with good service and friendly staff
Lovely decor and great staff. The upgrade to steak as a main meal was poor. The steak was SO thin it was shocking, about 7mm thick. I would have been embarrassed to serve it.
The other issue is this is a sports bar so you are surrounded by lots of noisy televisions. The volume and distraction was not condusive to a pleasant meal.
If you want drinks only then it was a great place to be, especially if you are a sports fan.
Very good food for the price & staff were fab. The restaurant is quite nice
Beautiful food and very friendly staff. We had the Friday night deal which was really good value for money.
Decent meal whilst staying over at the hotel - two happy teenagers
We arrived at 2pm to drop off Birthday cake, table booked for 3pm but we didn’t get seated until 15.45, whilst waiting I rec’d email for being no show. I went to the bar 3 times to ask when our table would be ready and was told the same thing each time, we’ll get someone to look into it. The Carvery was cold and horrid. We were given a free drink but as my husband & 2 sons were driving and my daughter in law is nursing a 4 week old baby you got off lightly as they were all on soft drinks. I have been to the hotel on several occasions to hen dos etc and have always had value for money but won’t be coming back.
Very busy because of football. Starters were very nice however mains were a bit disappointing.
Service was extremely slow. Waited 40 minutes and asked 4 times for them to bring out a birthday cake we had dropped off the day before, to then be told they had lost the candles. Due to the delay we missed our train and had to wait an hour for the next one.
Food was good service was good the dessert menu isn’t the best could be a lot better
We had a lovely meal. I think it would be better if they done offers on 2 or 3 course meals. Staff where friendly and service was excellent
Food was amazing and service was excellent. Only downside was that the restaurant is at the back of the bar so it was extremely loud when trying to enjoy our meal.
Sunday carvery lovely and hot
Starters good choice
Where has the Apple pie gone off menu x
