Great place to eat with friends, good service, good food. Deserts are overpriced.
Preferred the older pub even though the new bar/grill looks amazing. Booked at table for mother in laws 70th Birthday and was disappointed to say the least. The pub was very busy and too loud as we could not even hold a conversation. The service we received was very could and eventually we were moved tables as the table we were sat at was not suitable. Once moved we were happy until the music was turned up and we were sat directly underneath it unfortunately. The food was average and both food and drinks were quite expensive for what we had. Would not visit again as it seems to be more of a sports bar & drinking place rather than a dining place for a special Birthday. To be fair I thought I was booking the old pub and did not realise it had changed. If I had realised I would not of booked it.
Food, service both great. Its just too noisy to enjoy s meal and catch up with friends. Its a brilliant sports bar but it's a shame that there isn't a separate quieter place to eat. I used to go regularly with family for Sunday lunch, but won't be doing that in the future as we wouldn't be able to hear ourselves speak. I live the village and recommend to everyone. But this latest upgrade isn't one of their best....it just needs a quieter option for eating, afternoon teas etc
The food was ok but not much choice for young children I would go again but not with my kids
We have been many times before but this time we were not impressed since changes to the pub the carvery has less choice the meat was not fresh and they cleared away desserts before we had finished, also for the first time ever our membership advantage discount was not applied to our bill we were advised no longer applicable
We were on the love the weekend deal so had a 2 course meal with fizz included. The food portions were huge considering it is a prepaid for meal so after the starter we did struggle to eat more than half of the dinner, but better that than walk out hungry. The service was very slow due to the volume of people dining and we had finished our meal and had to ask again for the fizz that we were meant to have with our meal as it had still not been brought over.
Also now the pub and restaurant have merged into one after being sperate during our last visit, we found the noise level way too much when trying to have a nice meal. You have football and rugby on the TVs and numerous people shouting and singing as well as a lot of people in for just drinks so it does take away now from the dining experience.
I was surprised to find that my credit card was required to be locked away prior to receiving my order, I was also surprised when the member of staff was shocked that I wanted to open a tab and wasn't staying in the hotel even though I am a member of the Village. Overall the meal was good and the service was good, I was just disappointed with the level of trust aimed at the paying customer.
Meal was lovely although a band started to play at 8.30pm whilst we were eating our meal!, could do with a restaurant area for food!, we also did not receive our free drink of bubbly we should have with our love the weekend deal!
The food was great, we all had the carvery because we thought this was the only option, weren't brought any menus or told we could order off the menu, I didn't mind as love a good Sunday roast, but my hubby had some meat and a Yorkshire pudding, so value for money not had there. Would recommend although can be a tad noisy so can't have a conversation if your with a bigger party of people.
Great place to eat, drink and watch the football with screens all around. Used the the village app to order food and drink which was convenient with busy bar.
Had a lovely 5 course carvery and a catch up with a friend. Food was lovely. Staff were amazing. Would definitely go back. Good value for money £27.90 for both of us and that included a drink.
Great staff, especially Jason Whittingham, what a star!
There was a game on when we were there, is a bit odd people peering over your head to whatch it but I guess if you position yourself better then this wont happen, we had reserved a table and it would seem these tables are allocated between the TV and a seating area so this maybe needs thought out a bit better. Can't fault the food, prefer it on a proper plate but that's just down to personal taste.
Breakfast was ok, would be nice to have a choice of egg's, but the rest was fine.
The staff and the company you are with make it though, so all in all great!
I would certainly recommend the village Grill, we all had the fish & chips the batter was so light and the chips were very nice not these dry tasteless ones you get. The staff were very helpful.
Not a restaurant, just a table in a noisy sports bar environment not great.
Very good value for money especially with membership discount. Little disorganised, but it was the first carvery in new restaurant so only to be expected. Staff friendly. Especially the chef. Meat excellent quality. Extra choice of hot pudding would have been a bonus. House wine expensive.
Just opened after a re-fit, very noisy, only red meat at the carvery. Very much a sports bar not a restaurant. Would not go again to eat on a match day.
Tasty food good value no complaints baby chair provided. Excellent staff
We were lucky to go at a fairly quiet time, 1pm on Sunday. Service was friendly and not overwhelming. Food was delicious, lovely and hot. My only slight criticism was the beef was too rare for me, however, I was happy with the meats I had.
Absolutely terrible food was over priced and cold I have emailed a complaint no response to noisy staff to busy talking amongst them selves shocking
I clicked the link to book for the Sunday carvery, it offered the time of 7.30pm. when we arrived the carvery had finished so we had to order from the normal menu which was a fair bit more expensive, especially for 7 people. The humous starter was drowned in pesto and the beef skewers were unavailable. I ordered the chicken skewers - only one skewer and the chunky chips were undercooked. Overall not impressed - expensive for what you got
Really enjoy our family roast, great food and friendly staff.
Food was lovely. I was upset that i paid £55 up front and only had a set menu. The total of the food and drinks came to £57 but because the drinks wasnt included i had to pay another £10 so it costed me £65 for a £57 meal. Never pay upfront. Apart from that food was amazing
Very nice enjoyable dining with friends.
Food value for money but drinks very overpriced.
A pity we weren't offered a drinks menu as 4 glasses of wine were far more expensive than a bottle of wine.
2 cokes £7. Is ridiculous. Can't imagine wanting to drink anything other than water if I come again
Excellent meal very tastie good value pleasant staff
The choice on the fixed menu is limited if an alternative is available them it should be offered with a credit allowed from the set menu price.
There is no quiet lounge ad the television sets seem to use surround sound so regardless of where you sit the television is predominate.
The rest of the hotel was faultless for the money and would definitely stay again
Food was ok, but was warm not hot. This spoiled it for my wife.
Food was bland no taste
Burger was dry
Was not impressed with the food
Food was amazing. Cooked perfectly. Can’t fault the staff
Food what can I say went for 4 course cavery! Soup cold, other starters to be desired prawn cocktail had skin on it with 2 prawns, salmon had a crust. cavery no veg pudding only thing left apple crumble. Disappointed also put on it was Birthday/Anniversary nothing was mentioned and when I mentioned it got a look of gloom
Great food and choices
Waitress service and was looked after really well.
Would highly recommend
Sunday Carvery was very good, food well presented and well cooked with a good selection, Apple crumble and custard superb. very pleasant staff and very efficient. my only complaint was the price of your drinks over £4 for a pint of shandy ???? I would certainly return but not for drinks.
Every single member of staff are to be commended on, nothing was to much trouble! I hardly go out because of my disabilities and they didn’t make me feel in the slightest awkward.
We went for my sons birthday and they made it!
The food was fantastic and great because they cater for those who can only eat a little and those who have a bigger appetite (ie my son).
Will definitely be back very soon- just don’t change something that really works well.
Thank you for all your hard work.
Me and my husband decided to try out the Sunday carvery with our children as a special treat for a celebration of some good new we had received.
The restaurant it’s self was nice and clean and well presented, we were seated by a young lady and asked if we would like any drinks.
We were then told when ready we could go up and help ourselves to starters, but we thought the waitress was not very confident in explaining what to do and where things were so we had to call her back and ask again.
The starters were ok although not much choice for children. My younger son ended up having bread rolls.
The carvery itself I thought was very poor, the mash potatoes reminded us of school mash , tasted awful and salty. The roast potatoes were not nice, they were soggy, all the veg was dry and the gravy was like water. The meat was dry too.
The deserts were the only thing worth eating in all honesty, again not much choice though.
We asked where the ice cream was and the waitress went into the kitchen and came out with frozen ice cream sundae bowls with what looked like already made up ice cream portions which they stored in the freezer ready for when someone asked for one, I didn’t find this very fresh at all and it put us off eating it.
All in all I don’t think we will return as we thought it was too expensive for the quality of the food. And the drinks were far too expensive too.
Sorry Village hotel Wirral but I think Toby carvery beats hands down, but with a few tweaks it could be a lovely afternoon lunch experience for future for new potential customers.
We went for our anniversary as we had been told the restaurant was amazing. The food was good however the service was not, we only got asked if we wanted a drink once when we got seated, we didn’t get asked if we wanted another when our glasses were empty, we didn’t get offered a dessert menu either or if we wanted the bill which we wasn’t happy about, the staff started setting up for breakfast round us and closing up while we was eating which made us feel like we was being pushed out. Overall we would not go back.
Went for my mum's Birthday. Love this place as you can choose how much or little you eat. Lovely service.
Ver pleasant staff and Sunday Carvery, three courses, good value for the price. However, the restaurant itself was in need of a make-over. The walls were covered in black and white 'Italian' photographs, a lot depicting very bizarre subjects?!? (i.e.pictures of a large naked obese person and large picture over 'starter' area of a criminal with police officers with a completey bandaged face?! to name just a few) ...bit depressing, not my idea of 'cheery' Italian vibe! Could look so much better with a few changes.
Fantastic value for money!! For adults the choice of food was fantastic. The options for children could be improved More child friendly, for example plain meat with no coating. Will definitely return though.
We had the Sunday carvery here- 3 course meal and kids go free. Lovely meal, great food and service. Highly recommend it.
Our waitress was lovely but service was incredibly slow!
We didn’t see her for nearly 30mins, it took 15mibs to bring big our drinks then ages after we had finished eating to remove plates.
My main course (halloumi skewers) was delicious but the tiramisu was the worst I’ve ever had. Very thick and stodgy, not the light desert I thought I would be getting. The biscuit crumb on top was like eating dust.
The cocktails were reasonably priced but not cold enough, I had to ask for a glass of ice.
The food was overpriced.
We wouldn’t return or recommend due to the slow service and high food prices.
Really good. Staff were helpful and food was lovely.
