Violets is a quintessentially British neighbourhood bistro, located in the heart of the Historical Newcastle Quayside and a stones throw away from the iconic Tyne Bridge.
We serve breakfast, lunch and daily bakes throughout the day. Dinner offers a more relaxed bistro style dining with an emphasis on natural, seasonal & sustainable produce.
Our dishes are full of thought but most importantly full of flavour, offering the same focus of high quality cooking, wine and service as our sister restaurant House of Tides around the corner.
We look forward to welcoming you
Very nice Ambiente.
Good price value.
Very friendly staff.
Very good food and service hhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
We booked late through Open Table and unfortunately the booking hadn't been registered at the restaurant and they were just about to close when we arrived. They immediately apologised for being unaware of the booking and made us feel very welcome . We both had the taster menu and the food was superb, some of the best I've had and I've travelled the world and eaten in some outstanding venues during my life. Similarly, all the staff were were knowledgeable, friendly and polite. The venue was retro bistro, comfortably warm and the lighting added to the ambience. All in all, fine dining without the pretentiousness, brilliant . Both our thanks to the staff for enabling us to enjoy a memorable experience.
Excellent food, and service. I highly recommend this restaurant, the food was faultless - even on a very quiet Sunday night. The décor was a bit strange but don't let this put you off!!
Very high quality food and service. Good value considering the quality of the food. It was quiet but it was the end of January pre pay day. Will certainly be back.
Outstanding food! 3 courses of some of the best food you can sample in Newcastle. Deserving of Bib Gourmand!
Absolutely amazing food and also service! A real treat. Everyone must go!
We visited Violets following recommendation by some foodie friends and we were not disappointed. We booked for an early dinner on an unusually quiet night as it was in early January. The food was delicious with a choice of three dishes for each course. My only problem was that I hadn't informed them, in advance, that I can't eat cows milk products, they adapted the first two courses but all desserts were off limits. This is often the case in restaurants unless they cater for Vegans and they did offer to make me a fruit salad. They are not contactable by phone, so communication has to be by e mail. The staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful and we will definitely go back.
We had a lovely meal. The only thing I would say is that £3.50 for 2 slices of bread is a bit steep!
Unplanned trip to violets was well chosen, staff were great and food was delicious, the wife and I had a lovely meal thank you
The best food we have had in such a long time! Lovely staff and great wine. What a find! We will be back
We would not recommend to a friend, as there is competition around Newcastle, where menus r more interesting and a better atmosphere. Maybe some low level music would help, as there were only 5 people in restaurant that night.
Our first visit for a meal. Everything was really good apart from the fact we were the only diners which made for a subdued atmosphere. The quality of the food was excellent - beautifully cooked, with a lovely taste and startlingly presented. The staff who looked after us were efficient and friendly. Overall a pleasurable experience.
Amazing tasty food, beautifully presented and attentive but not intrusive service. Would definitely recommend.
Outstanding food !!!
Service was excellent and atmosphere was very pleasant...looking forward to my next visit...
Outstanding value for money, gorgeous food and a very professional service.
Unreal food, very well thought out and cooked to perfection. Service was just right, friendly enough but not over familiar.
What a beautiful supper we had on Saturday evening. First time visitors but will certainly return. Tried Violets on the back of a couple of visits to House of Tides and found that the quality of the food stood up well when compared to that. Service was great, just the right mix of professional and informal, and was even able to give the kitchen staff a wave on the way out.
All the food was fabulous, from the bread and olives through to the treats with coffee. Loads of highlights- sourdough bread, the cod, the purée inside the little onion pieces, the chocolate pave, and the violet macaroon - all fantastic.
One slightly negative comment about the food - not a complaint but something I think could be looked at - the main course portion size! This isn't a tasting menu, and the starter and dessert didn't suggest it was, but the main course was disappointingly small. Come on Kenny, just a slightly more generous main course and I would give a perfect score, and believe me, that's a rare breed!
Thanks to all your team for a lovely evening; without doubt we will be back!
Small restaurant with fine dining. Cosy and unpretentious .
Staff friendly and helpful. Food delicious. Small menu but good variety. Beautifully presented tasty food. Good wine selection by glass or bottle.
The food was extremely tasty but there just wasn’t enough of it! My portion of cod loin was much smaller than my partners. The three course for £27 would have been exceptional value if the the portions had been an average size! They were minuscule! I went home having spent £112 per couple hungry!
The welcoming atmosphere was palpable on arrival. We enjoyed a beautiful meal - each dish was a mini-masterpiece! Already recommended to friends and will be back for more - soon!
Beautiful food, friendly, attentive staff, great wine selection. Highly recommend!
What a treat, we were really well looked after. The food was gorgeous.
Superb food in a great location. This is some of the most intensely flavoured, skilfully prepared food in Newcastle. Run by wife of House of Tides owner - the cooking skill is top-notch.
Dont tell too many people - I still want to be able to book easily! Great wines to match
Cosy and relaxed but with excellent food and quality service.
Amazing loved it everything about it !!!!!!!!!
They have it right the vibe the ambiance and most important the food fabulous.
Wow - fantastic food influenced by Michelin-starred House of Tides team. Superb flavours / nice wine list - great friendly service - a real little gem!
Just fabulous! Every course was perfect.
