Virgil's Real Barbecue at Tioga Downs Casino
My suggestion to have dinner at Virgil's. My friend ordered the rib and brisket. Both meats were so fatty she could hardly eat them, unfortunately. I encouraged her to send it back.
I had pulled chicken and pork. The chicken was very good, the pork...........way too fatty.
Our waitress was awesome. Service was excellent.
Ordered 2 grilled chicken dinners. It took about an hour after ordering to get the food. Both chicken dinners were undercooked and returned. We were offered a brisket sandwich instead but refused anything else. The manager was apologetic but the server and hostess seemed to think it was humorous. They also tried to seat us in the middle of the room when there were numerous booths available. I have given them several chances in the past when service was poor but never again.
When we got our meals 2 of the 4 had to be returned. The 2 grilled chicken dinners were raw in the middle. When they were returned they were so over done they could not be eaten. The waitress deleted the 2 chicken dinners from our bill. Still very disappointing as it was a special occasion.
Yes, the food is good. But like many reviews on Google, the service is terrible. Our waitress was incredibly condescending. My friend asked for a Honey Jack and Coke. She said, "It doesn't exist". Are you serious? Then our food was totally wrong. She acted like it was our fault! We "didn't order correctly". Wow. Really? Nah, not going back. I get better service at our local bar. Too bad. The food is good. No respect from wait staff.
Have been to Virgil’s previously and the food was good . There were five in our party and 4 of us ordered the barbeque chicken, all of us thought the chicken had little or no taste and very tough. We ordered the hush puppies not sure if u got a new vendor they were terrible. We will not be coming back anytime soon. Not sue if the concert had anything to do with meal we had.
Service seemed to be so low for the amount of patrons
Virgil's Real Barbecue is a western looking restaurant. It is decorated quite nicely and fits the theme. The menu caters to the theme also, which is exactly what it is called. The food was very good and they were able to cater to a gluten free order. The portions were very adequate. The service was quick, friendly and active, but not overbearing. Everyone at our table really enjoyed themselves.
our party was seated immediately and then sat for 10-12 minutes waiting for a waitress to come and take a drink order. Finally we waved down the hostess who took our drink and dinner order. Jen was very helpful and attentive once she realized that no one had come over. Food was good.
Our waitress Mikalia, did a great job. Unfortunately our food took at least an hour & half if not more to be prepared & delivered to us. Fried chicken was still red in center & was sent back. Ribs were skimpy
My wife and snuck out for a dinner alone
One complaint. I ordered takeout for my son. He was supposed to get grilled chicken with mashed potatoes, macaroni and cheese, and a cornbread muffin. When I got the order home the potatoes and muffin weren't in the box, there was just a piece of grilled chicken breast and a little takeout container of mac and cheese.
Thursday night buffet always the best. Good food at a great price!
Friendly staff, good bbq food with good selection. Waited for booth seating, chairs at tables very uncomfortable. Hostess very understanding and accommodating.
We made Father’s Day reservations. With my 91 year old father, we stood over 1/2 waiting to be seated at an appropriate table. Staff constantly walking by us, no one saying anything until someone else in our party showed up and spoke up again.
Food was terrible, the steaks chewy, the ribs did not taste the greatest, the veggie was dry and tasteless. Service was bad, however she told us she was pulled from another part of the casino. The manager was made aware and took a percentage off our bill.
Standard BBQ food but Food was very tasty. Service was on par. Parking was right there. No wait, but still easy to make reservation.
Server excellent but no burger takes 30min with only 3 tables dinning would not want to be here when crowded. Not severs fault kitchen is slow.
The waitress gave us starters without plates. After sitting and waiting for 5 minutes, she finally brought the plates. Food was okay. Nice atmosphere. I wish the waitress would have returned after she delivered the main course. My guests had to wait until they were finished eating before begging for a refill while taking away the dirty plates and asking for dessert.
Great parking and potential to be a destination restaurant. They aren't quite there yet.
Service was attentive and friendly, not rushed. We arrived early and were seated immediately. Wine list varied and well priced. Pinot Grigio was excellent. The steak was cooked perfectly and very tender. The shrimp were huge and delicious. We will definitely return and likely order the steak-shrimp combo again. This is s great place with a casual relaxed atmosphere. Everyone can feel welcome from seniors to toddlers( mac and cheese can be ordered as a side.)
Hostess was terrific and so was our waitress. My wife ordered the 1/2 Rack of Ribs and I had the Prime Rib. Both meals were excellent. Would recommend the restaurant and the food!!
Ribs were very tough and not eaten. Wings exceptionally peppery it overpowered taste of other foods, Mac and cheese pasty and resembled warmed up left overs. Beer and Sprite was good.
This was the first time going here. My family and I went to celebrate my dads birthday and they didnt even say anything to him after I mentioned it when making the reservation and telling the server. I had the trainwreck fries which were amazing but could use more bacon on them. My boyfriend had the southwestern burger which was amazing as well. However I had the southwestern chicken caesar salad and that was the worst I've ever had. The croutons were chewy and the chicken was overcooked and dried out with a bitter flavor. The best part of the salad was the roasted corn on it. I would not go back here for dinner or any special occasion. Maybe just the bar for some fries and a drink and that would be it.
The buy one get one free buffet on Thursdays is a great deal! All you can eat exceptional food from salads to desserts. The ribs are amazing!
Virgils does advertise that they have a limited and strange menu on Sundays. It is a unpleasant surprise to go to a "real BBQ" restaurant and when you pick up the menu it says Italian Menu across the top. If I knew about this I would not have gone there. They need to make this known as I am now a dissatisfied customer.
We had not been to Virgil's in at least 18 months and our meals did not meet our expectations.
My wife's catfish could have used a couple more minutes on the grill. Her beans and cheesy grits looked like sauces when her plate arrived. My collard greens were excessively salty and my beans looked like a sauce as well.
Our previous dining experiences were excellent. Maybe you have changed management or chefs but we did not have a pleasing meal the other night. We will try again, but it will be awhile.
Thank you for the opportunity to respond.
Hate the chairs at tables but love the Booth's. Food came out with our dinner salads first instead of our appetizer but was good. Love the prime rib here one of the best I have ever eaten.
My boyfriend and I went to the Thursday night buffet special Two for $18. We even had milkshakes which were not included. With my discount it came to $22 what a deal! Great food quick waiters and of course the slot machines
Virgils should stick to barbecue, not offer Italian. The Italian soup was not good. The food took 30 minutes to be served and the restaurant was not busy at all for a Sunday afternoon. Service was poor, had to leave money in the table for the boil, waitress no where to be seen.
Another thing that bothered us was how noisy it was. When the casino paged or announced, it was so loud and made
We ordered an appetizer that came with our dinner so we did not get a chance to really enjoy it -top it off [they were the fries] - most of the cheese and fries were burnt and we had to send back. The waitress was friendly. Quiet evening - not very busy for a Saturday night.
Cocktails weren't great, service was really fast and order was correct. The pulled pork was really very vinegary tasting. The ribs weren't fall off the bone, and we had to use a steak knife to cut the meat off. Grits and cornbread were really good as was the brisket. All in all, nothing really special. I doubt we'll go here again.
Everything was amazing! The food, the service, the drinks! Thank goodness we were staying in the hotel because I'm fairly certain I would've passed in a food coma if I had driven home after.
We have eaten at Virgils before and have had a good experience. However, this particular evening was awful. We had three couples getting together for dinner prior to the Tusk concert. Our reservations were for 6:45 and the concert was at 8:00. We got our drinks and ordered, and I noticed that it was 7:35 and we had not received our dinners yet, and we needed to get over to the concert to get seats. So I left to stand in line and the other five waited to get the food and asked the server to put the dinners in take out boxes so they could also get to the concert. They continued to wait, and finally asked for the check - and then the server got the drink orders mixed up on the three checks AND cancelled the food order. My husband went to talk to the manager and he said that the food had gotten thrown out because we cancelled the orders. We never cancelled the orders - they were simply so late that we needed to get going and wanted to take them with us. I felt very bad because this was a first time to Tioga Downs for one of the couples and I was hoping to share a really good experience with them. And they certainly did not see that.
In the past, I have had fine meals at Virgil's, however, this time not only was the service terrible the food was below par as well. I have been in the restaurant business for most of my life; to be completely honest, this place needs a manager to go in and do some training! We sat at our table for at least a half hour before anyone even acknowledged us, then the waitress came over to ask if anyone was waiting on us yet, when we said no she apologized and blamed it on the fact that she just got an 8 top. We then told the waitress that we only had an hour to eat before our show. She then looked at us like we were crazy to think that we could order and eat before then...really? I asked her to check with the kitchen to make sure we had time and it took her 20 minutes to do that because she was afraid she would get yelled at by the kitchen staff. I'm sorry, I may go back to have a drink since the atmosphere is so good but I don't' think I'll be eating there again anytime soon. Managers need to train their staff!
Waitress needs to know the beers, about them and the names of them. Better training needed.
Food was excellent and portions were more than satisfying, you do not leave hungry! Service was excellent and prices very reasonable. Highly recommend
Waitress did not give attention. Also the buffet item went empty and had to tell staff. Staff should be on top of this.
2 tries at cooking a burger was unsuccessful. First one was burnt to a hockey puck. Second attempt was raw inside.
GREAT FOOD AT A GREAT PRICE. THE COOKS/SERVERS WERE VERY ATTENTIVE TO THE BUFFET. HIGHLY RECOMMEND, WILL VISIT AGAIN.
food was good lots of it and service was awesome . well will be back and are telling everyone
Open table allowed us to make a reservation that wasn’t available, but we were seated and served well. Food was excellent and the two plates plenty enough for four people.
The first time that we went the food was real good. This last time we went on 3/9/19 our experience was poor, The nachos we ordered were soggy and the meat was hard. My husband ordered barbecue sandwich and it wasn't a sandwich that he ordered. The waitress told us when we ordered cause there was seven of us to put on one bill and that she would separate it for us. Well that didn't not happen we had to do it ourselves. Our friend asked for a drink and had to wait quite a while for his drink. We wouldn't have gotten it if we didn't speak up. My step daughter over heard her talking to other staff about our party. I will not be eating there again. We were very disappointed this time
