   Disappointed. We'd read decent reviews but we had a poor experience Maybe an off day, maybe trouble in kitchen. To be fair 2 of our party arrived 20 minutes late but it took 55 minutes to get our food. 3 of the 8 main courses on the menu were not available. 3 of the dishes arrived cold. 1 glass of wine ordered didn't arrive. Staff were pleasant enough but no real apology.

   Arrived 19.15 , ordered starters and main , 3 hours later no main , arrives and cold , shame as starters was tasty , clearly not enough staff in kitchen to cope , not happy that we removed service charge , avoid when busy.

In reparation, we comped nearly £150 off your bill. Regarding service charge, you asked for this to be removed, as your server had to get a manager to remove it from your bill. This is a shame as service goes to the staff. We also offered you a complimentary bottle of bubbles on your next visit. We are 😢 therefore you felt we still deserved a one star review.

   When we arrived we were greeted very warmly and seated swiftly. Initial impression was how cosy yet visually appealing the restaurant was. Some lovely artwork on the walls and the lighting is wonderful. Only slight negative was that the dining room we were seated in was bordering on cramped and you do get very friendly with your neighbours if seated by the window. I believe our table is quite often joined with another to make a 4 person setting. The food was wonderful. We ordered sardine pate and croquettes to start. The pate was delicious and took us straight back to Lisbon. The croquettes were packed full of ham hock and seasoned to perfection. We both ordered the piri piri chicken for our mains and were not disappointed. Beautiful flavour and the chicken was incredibly succulent. The accompanying chips were crisp and tasty. To finish the meal we ordered coffee and a classic pastel de nata. This was good as any we had had in Belém. The food could not be faulted the service however needs tweaking. There were plenty of staff available but they seemed confused as to who was covering which table. We were not in a hurry but waiting over 20 mins for drinks and to order our food seemed too long. Attention on drinks refills and course clearing could be improved. All the staff were friendly and were super helpful when they came to our table. Prices reflect the quality of the ingredients and we found the main portions generous. We did feel though that the dessert however delicious was overpriced.

   Went to Volta do Mar with my friend Barry who lives in Brazil. The decor is modern and arty. The service was excellent, we were given two wines to taste to choose one for our meal. I had sardine pâté and Barry chicken wings. We then had the fish of the day for 2 which was a wonderful choice: large sea bass fried with spices and orange. Absolutely delicious. We had a side of Mozambique green rice, also delicious. Highly recommended, I hope to be back before too long.

   Outstanding demonstration of Portuguese cuisine and fantastic service by the team here. We enjoyed the fish mains. The sardine paté is delightful. Hits the spot! I will certainly recommend it to friends and family.

   Service good. Decor good. Food disappointing. The baked salt cod with mashed potato was fish pie and ought to have been described as such in the menu. The fish stew had two prawns and one small piece of fish, smothered in a bowl of creamy sauce. In each case the server recommended an added side, presumably so that the main could be bulked up. A side should always be an optional extra and not a near necessity to making up the dish. There is a lot of competition in Covent Garden!

   we were welcomed from a list of items sold out on the menu saturday night 8pm, which was quite surprising , as it is the beginning of the weekend and they already finish off half of the food on the menu. although surprising it was not really an issue as we order other dishes. we liked better the starters in particularly the piri piri sauce on the chichen wings, and we liked the croquettes, but the smoked sausage was nothing special a part from the presentation on flames. the mains were not really satisfying, i was really looking fwd to eat moqueqa but this was far from the one i had in brasil, it was basically 2 prawns and 1 puece of white fish in coconut milk, what i had in brasil was a very different thing, although basically a seafood stew in coconut, but the flavour and the quantity and variety of seafood was at another leval. the desserts were not particularly good a part from the mango sorbet served with the strawberry cake which was very mango tasting. as also the wine list has very limited choices available, we had to have a 60£ bottle rather than a £30 bottle as we intended, which was delicious, but increased the bill

    Attractive restaurant. Welcoming, friendly staff. Service was a little slow, but it was a busy Saturday night. Delicious food, although a tad overpriced for what was essentially a posh Nando's.

    The food was fantastic, really reminded me of being back in Portugal. The waitress was lovely. The only thing that was slightly annoying, there was a party happening in the next room and we could really hear ourselves talk by the end of the evening.

    I had such high expectations for this meal and unfortunately the service really fell flat . Water for the table took 20 mins to arrive, starters another 20 mins after this. Food and drinks which weren't for us kept arriving at the table rather than our own orders. It felt like everything that could go wrong did which was a shame because the food itself was great! VdMar just really needs to sort out their staff and service

    Food was nice, portions not that big and it took literally ages for food and drinks to come. The guys were nice, but disorganised. Special thanks for Vittoria who was very attentive and kind. Manager took out all the desserts because of the waiting time we had, didn't request it, but truly appreciated. Recommended.

    Overall quite good. Service was charming and helpful. Food wise - would have preferred more imaginative use of salt cod - tasted like average fish pie. Would have liked to see octopus and sardines on the menu. Sardine pate was delicious. Tasted friend's pork which was lovely.

    The food was good but the waiters were all over the show. Slow, wrong food. Heard the phrase miscommunication about 5 times as an excuse. We had a Portuguese speaking guest also so good luck if you just speak English. Food was small but nice but overpriced for what it was. Wouldnt go back

    Was really disappointing. You could see staff is in distress but cold food, salty rice, waiting 50min for appetisers is a bit too much.

About the rice please let us know before you finish all so we can try and check. The staff was distress because a customer physical attack one of the staff which the police was called, so is normal that staff were worried.     I was willing to go to this resturant for a while as the photos of the food look appealing. I called the restaurant to confirm my booking and I inquired about the 25 pound pp set menu that was displayed online, and they told me that the products might finish accordingly the demand and, that they do not assume any responsablity on replacing different menu options. The answer took me by surprise. However, I was curious about the restaurant, and I decided to give it a try. Upon arrival, they headed us to our table. However, no one suggested to drop our coats in the cloakroom, even that I realised afterwards the service beeing provided to other customers. The dining service was slow (30' since we got our starters), but it was okay as we were not on a rush. Overall, the dishes were really disappointed, mostly because of quantity: a main of cod fish was served in a tiny layer on a dessert bowl; bread has a starter was a single slice of bread (..). On a positive note, the music and envionment was really good and I must say that the dessert baba camelo was superb. Overall, I felt that the high pricing do not match the service, nor quantities and quality of the food, which was unfortunately, disappointed. However, I think that the place has a great potential and they can definetly improve if they serve more generous portions and provide a more attentive service.

    We arrived at 6pm for our pre theatre supper. We waited 10 minutes before we asked to have our order taken. Our main course did not arrive till 7.20pm. We had 3 minutes to finish a third of it before we had to dash off for our show. The bill came immediately, it was a shame the food didn't. We went to the show with an empty stomach and a much lighter wallet (£87 including 12.5% service charge).

It is really hard when people leave reviews with no real names because we have all the timings of courses when they arrived and what time orders were taking so we could have a look and see what happen, that is not possible this time. Our Set menus are affordable at £25 3 courses and £30 for 4 courses and the portions are for individuals and not for sharing on the table.     Booked after seeing on the Michelin website. Had been to other Bib Gourmand restaurants in Bristol and thought would be a nice meal while we visited London. My Mum and I had the pre theatre menu and each course was delightful. Fresh and full of flavour, service was incredible with sound knowledge of all dishes and able to accommodate my mums needs. We stepped foot in the door and the music and ambience was delightful. There were families, single diners and couples all enjoying the cuisine and service. Would come back again and will recommend to all friends visiting London. Whipped butter was delightful, baked salted cod was so full of flavour. Lettuce salad was a bowl of lettuce but so crisp and fresh and a great cleanser after my sardine pate. Desert was impeccable. Will be back to try the chicken and other dishes.

    The prix fixe menu wasn’t offered to us (or anyone else who arrived) we had to ask for it. Although the snacks and starter were perfectly acceptable for a pre-theatre menu, the ‘main’ course was unacceptably tiny. Served in a small brûlée dish it was 1/4 inch deep serving of fish pie which was certainly no more than 2 tablespoons, served on its own with nothing else accompanying it. I realise that some adjustments are made to reflect the price point of the pre theatre offers, but this was beyond the pale, and could never be described as a ‘main’ course in anyones book. I wouldn’t return.

    Food really tasty and staff friendly. However, we came for a pre-theatre dinner and we were not offered the pre-theatre menu, we then requested it and the portions were tiny. We were told set menu portions were 2/3 that of normal -what’s the point of a set menu if it’s no better value (due to portion size) and the options are just more limited to the normal menu, plus it’s not the filling meal you came for?

    Fish of the day (seabass) wash horribly dry and overcooked. Chicken and pork were nice, but fundamentally really simple and not worth what I was charged. I don't mind paying for good quality ingredients, skill, and ambience — but when I do pay, I do expect all three. All I got was ambience.

Cooking with the highest quality ingredients is something we take great pride in, and sourcing the best available is what we strive to do. Our fish is from Wright Brothers and our meat from HG Walter. We're also very cost conscious, which is why we keep our prices super keen, especially for Central London. We wish you had mentioned the Sea Bass on the night - it's hard for us to react if no comments are made and the dish in question has been eaten completely.
