Could be a little gem, as it’s a characterful place, with great friendly staff. But the food lets it down, burger was exceedingly pink and the cod was insipid. No colour or garnish on the plates, poor presentation. But the servers are wonderful and their friendliness somewhat made up for a disappointing meal.
Well placed for London theatres and galleries. Great food at reasonable prices.
Very popular so book.
Tricky to write about ambience and noise because we were the only two diners where we were seated. Who cares, though! We really enjoyed our food and the service was really friendly. We're even thinking of bringing a group to dine one evening for my birthday.
My dietary requirements were accommodated with a change to my cabbage and everything tasted lovely.
Nevertheless I definitely would recommend and will return.
Restaurant area was separate from the tables for those just drinking and so the noise level was kept down. Not many people eating but I prefer that to a packed place. The food was fine with a few unusual touches in the starters (eg ndujah and dukkah). My fishcake was a bit rich with the hollandaise and the egg but that was what I chose. Would go again if going to the Trafalgar Studios afterwards.
3 of us had a Main Course before going to the theatre directly opposite - perfect location.
At 6.30pm, the pub (separated from the restaurant) was heaving but the restaurant was empty - just us.
Chatty and helpful waiter.
Food very tasty but the portion sizes seemed odd. Beef & Mushroom Pie: big, lots of other stuff, too. Smoked Salmon Fishcake: just a small fishcake on a few bits of spinach underneath with a poached egg and sauce on top. Therefore, the 2 of us with the fishcakes felt short-changed.
The 1 glass of red wine was corked but the waiter sorted that out efficiently and knocked something off the bill. Perfect.
I'd probably go again though.
Great lunch
The reason for this poor review is that we arrived on time for our 6:15 pre theater reservation but the door was locked. We saw a server working at the bar and tapped on the window but she ignored us. The entrance is not on the street but down the alley-hard to find but clearly labeled “entrance” on the threshold and clearly locked so we went next door.
This lunch was booked quick as my friend and I was looking for a vegetarian venue and this place seemed very good.
The food didnt dissappiont service very good as well as the staff would recommend this place to friends
My friend and I booked a pre-theatre supper which we both enjoyed with a glass of Prosecco and finishing up with an excellent Irish coffee. We liked the ambiance and the music and after the theatre we came back for a quick drink before heading home. We ended up staying till closing time. The manager remembered us and was especially charming, making us feel quite special and we felt that if we lived or worked near Whitehall, it would become our local. We will be looking for an excuse to go back there again soon.
We went super early so not many people but the food and wine were lovely
Restaurant was very cold. Everything else was average.
Needed somewhere for pre-theatre. all ok, just not startling in any way. Fair pub grub. Good service. very quiet.
Food was good. Service was prompt. Staff was kind.
It was basically just a normal London pub with basic bar food. When I booked it through Top Table with a name like Walkers of Whitehall we expected more of a restaurant which it certainly isn’t.
I had a Caesar salad and to be honest it didn’t taste great. Chicken was over cooked (dry) and salad itself was tasteless...
Very handy for Trafalgar studios. Good pub grub type menu
It was a great start to our New Year Eve celebration.
Food was nice and service was pleasant but we were tucked away in a separate area and thus ignored all evening. We had to get up several times in order to attract attention and items were missed off orders. It took 30 minutes for our wine to arrive, long after our starters and only after I asked for it. Disappointing.
Nice quiet pub and restaurant in a mews set back from busy Trafalgar Square. Perfect for our group of friends having pre-theatre lunch before the Trafalgar Studios nearby. Food was only average though, small portions and overpriced. Still worth it though for the peace and quiet compared to alternatives in the area. Staff attentive and pleasant.
Birthday celebration
Decided to go prior to the theatre. The starters were small and flavourless and the burger unexciting.
At Walkers ... great dive for drinks after work or meetin friends pre evening out. Very limited menu i.e. One veggie, one fish and 2 meat mains.
I booked this restaurant after reading the reviews thought it was a bit of a 'foodie' restaurant.
we arrived early but were accommodated at a small table between 2 family parties, almost in a corridor. The Saturday lunch menu was very limited and the 2 of us decided on the same and were disappointed that they had run out, must admit we did then struggle to choose a replacement. the food was well cooked and enjoyable but this is not a foodie restaurant. staff pleasant. it would have been better to have been seated in the main areas but on the restaurants side we were half an hour early. they did have a good selection of draught ales and as I do like a good 'bitter' was a definite +.
From our experience here this is a good casual restaurant in the heart of London, if you want anything a bit special then somewhere else would be better.
Lovely place hidden away in a central location. Perfect for pre dinner for the Trafalgar Studios.
Lovely food and service. I would definitely eat here again.
Very good. Not too busy as it is set back from Whitehall, but much much better than most nearby offerings, which are very touristy. The only real criticism is that the banquette tables downstairs were very tight.
Really good service and really good food in a great location. Staff were really friendly especially the waitress who served us. We had a great time.
Food was not as good as the high price. Service was very slow. But the place is very nice, especially for the touristy area.
