Our first visit and very happy with the experience. We will be booking again and taking friends to enjoy this little gem of a restaurant. Food delicious with lots of choice and no course was disappointing. We had the early bird menu that was excellent value. Nothing was to much trouble for the friendly staff and when my husband advised that he was torn between starters , the one he hadn't chosen was delivered to our table for us to try, how generous was that! Watson's is definitely a place to visit if you are looking for great food, good value in a relaxed atmosphere away from the usual run of the mill , predictable eateries.
As ever Watsons will always deliver. Fabulous flavours and superb service. Always a very enjoyable evening, great for special occasions or a special treat because you can! ;)
We were not offered any bread to start.
I ordered chicken, my wife beef, the portions were very small. We rarely order a dessert when eating out, however after our tiny mains, we were both still hungry, so we both had afters.
Again, small portions.
Went home and ate a bag of crisps.
Ox cheek - melted in the mouth. Absolutely superb.
Had a lovely anniversary meal on Saturday evening. Food and service was great.
The only downside side a couple sat by us to say the lady was loud I could here her above my husband!! But then that’s not Watson’s fault.
Looking forward to returning for another meal soon.
We booked on line for 3 people. However, when we arrived there was only a table booked for 2. Despite the error the staff accommodated us very well and managed to find us a table after a short wait. The food was very good and the staff pleasant. We enjoyed our evening
We have visited Watson’s numerous times over the past few years and really like the feel and the ambience.
So much so, that on this occasion we brought along a couple of friends who have just moved to Conwy.
However, on our last visit the service felt a little cold and unwelcoming. Hopefully, just an off night?
The food (and the Chenin Blanc!) was of the usual high standard, however, I do feel that the vegetable accompaniments with the various meat and fish dishes should be a little larger.
Certainly the welcome and vegetable accompaniments are far superior at Paysanne!
Amazing atmosphere with brilliant service. It was very good value for money and the starters and desserts in particular were so delicious!
excellent fresh food, cosy little restaurant, didn't give 5stars for service because we asked for the sweet menu it took 30mins to arrive so didn't bother with sweet ,paid the bill and left ,but when in the area again will return.
A gem of a place, we have been going here for years and had our wedding reception here. Food is always excellent and inspiring, the location is great, staff are welcoming, very friendly and service efficient. Keep it up Ian, Ann and the team.
Astonishingly good quality food for the price. Not sure how they do it. Would recommend to anyone,
Lovely birthday meal on our trip . Buzzing atmosphere, attentive staff . Fab menu and specials board reasonable prices . I had veggie starter and main , beautifully presented and light and delicious. We had bottle of Prosecco. No room for pudding . Highly recommended, will be back.
Superb food and lovely atmosphere coupled with great service! One of my favourite places to eat !!!
Lovely staff lovely food and wine. Would return again whenever possible
Amazing food and excellent service, would definitely recommend and would go again!
I had booked this place months in advance, while organising my 11th wedding anniversary trip in North Wales, one of the British areas that we hadn’t yet visited since moving to England nearly 5 years ago. I mentioned in my OpenTable booking that it would have been our wedding anniversary and I had also called them over the phone a week in advance to remind them that we would have appreciated a nice table for that’s special dinner.
However, when getting there perfectly on time, no one appeared to remember why we were there, and we’ve been given a bleak table quite close to the entrance instead of others that I could see in a nicer and definitely more romantic section of the restaurant. Service was provided by a woman apparently not very happy about her job, and quite pretentious nonetheless. The wine menu is unusually divided in a “house wines” section and another section of non-house wines, further split in the usual white/rose/red sections and I had only looked at the second section when ordering a Shiraz. Only later during our dinner, while discussing that our wine wasn’t anything to write home about, we realised that we had been served the house wine Shiraz although no one asked us which Shiraz we wanted.
The food was OK, all menu items are quite eclectic and unusual but overall the plates seem as pretentious as our server without providing the unique experience that other reviewers here and on TripAdvisor have reported.
The night after we went to a pub nearby, where we hadn’t even booked and it was a busy Saturday night, and both service and food have been significantly better, so although this bistro might still be worth a try if you’re staying in the area for a while, it’s not even the best place in its small town. I would definitely ignore the bistro for anything romantic or special, it’s been definitely our worst anniversary dinner so far.
For food my wife and I could not fault Watsons. The service was very good and it was good see the excellent range of Welsh beers on offer (why people persist on going for foreign mass produced rubbish like Peroni escapes me).
Watsons is let down in two areas - the toilets are very tired and the outside area, visible from where we ate is in dire need of a good tidy up. It looks totally unloved, untidy and generally a mess - not something you really want to look at when you're having a meal.
Another great meal at Watsons, never disappoints will be there again in the future.
Watson's is a very nice restaurant with above average food.
Excellent taste & presentation. Chocolate fondant dessert was outstanding.
Can’t beat food or service and value. The seating area at the side of main restaurant is, however, a little cramped and basic but this should not put anyone off giving it a go and If you do I am sure you will return
Excellent visit once again, food was fantastic. Great service
Brilliant as always. Perfect food perfect service. Nice friendly atmosphere.
Great service. Warm welcome on arrival. Service was well timed and unobtrusive. The food was well cooked and beautifully flavoured. The wine list was extensive.
Overall a very pleasant experience.
My only slight criticism was there was only one vegetarian main course on the evening menu.
50th birthday meal
As always excellent food choice & quality. Great service as always.
Very good well cooked food and effcient friend ly service
Watson’s has never let us down.
The food is excellent and a great choice. The staff are friendly, professional and efficient and looked after us brilliantly.
I have nothing negative to say at all- a real jewel in the crown.
Excellent restaurant and great value, good wine list and is always my go to place in Conwy
We really enjoyed the dishes in the early-bird menu that we chose. The lamb was a bit tough, but the hake was delicious, and so were the smoked haddock risotto and seafood fritters. The desserts were outstanding.
Lovely meal. Staff very friendly and you were not rushed. Looking forward to a return visit very soon.
Lovely staff and delicious home cooked food all locally sourced. Our meal was served quickly and prices are very reasonable, I will go back again on my next visit to Conwy. The only downside for us was the small side room where our table was seemed to lack something, it wasn't very cosy and seemed dark and uninviting, perhaps some pictures or mirrors on the walls would rectify this?
Watson’s Bistro is located in a rather unassuming small building off Chapel Street in Conwy, that’s quite easy to miss. However straight away when you enter you are given a wonderful homely feel and a super warm welcome by the staff. The decor is not over the top, which in my opinion allows food that is served, to shine, and on looking around it was packed with seemingly satisfied patrons.
The Sunday lunch menu was vast, with so much choice. For starter I opted for the Orange & Cointreau chicken liver pate with Nana Thomas’ chutney and homemade bread. What I received was two wonderfully quinelled portions of pate greatness.. super tasty, and as to the chutney!, heavens I have no idea who Nana Thomas is, but wow the taste of that chutney was otherworldly.
For the main course, I decided to go with the Roast rump of beef with thyme scented yorkies, roasting juices and organic watercress. The dish was executed perfectly, with the shine on the sauce divine adding to this dish which was a feast for the eyes.
Following such great eating, my resolve to have just two courses totally evaporated, and I plumped for Lemon and Whiskey Posset. I had no idea what a posset was, but gosh I’m glad I opted for this dream dish, it was so light and a perfect way to complete my meal.
Although I’d love to be selfish and keep Watson’s Bistro to myself, this bistro is simply too wonderful to be kept a secret as it has to be the hottest ticket in town
So a thank you to the chefs and waiting staff at Watson’s for a fantastic meal and wonderful service. I hope the tip I left went somewhat to show the appreciation I felt was deserved for making my meal such a great experience.
As Arnold Schwarzenegger would say.. I will be back.
Visited for a friends birthday. Menu choice was lovely, Many of us would have liked all the items! Really lovely food and nice friendly service too.
We had an excellent evening & a lovely meal.
Service was friendly and efficient. Tables a little too close together so conscience of conversation topics. Food was delicious but the main dishes didn’t vary as much as described on the menu.
It was our first time to the restaurant and we had a lovely meal, the staff were friendly and we would definitely be going again.
Tasty food and great service , definitely go there again. My fella said it was the best food he has had in a long time
Fantastic food and drink. They cater for gluten free. We went mid week and it was busy, always a good sign! Highly recommend the Watson's bistro
