What Insiders Are Saying
Want low-key cool in Highbury? Westerns Laundry is a modern wine bar & restaurant in a converted garage that does brilliant small plates.
We enjoyed our meal at westerns laundry.
Main waitress was excellent, but there seemed to be a language barrier with or second waiter.
Food was very good, but not as special in their sister restaurant, primeur.
My biggest concern was the wine. We ordered a cava as aperitif and we got something that was pesticide free and made using low tech methods. It tasted nothing like usual champagne or cava and I think the staff should have pointed this out at the beginning and we would have enjoyed it more or just ordered something more mainstream. My friend didn’t drink hers, shame!
Amazing food and great service! Highly recommend!
Some very good dishes - in particular the cuttlefish croquette. This was the second time we came, the first time the food was better but would still re visits as the menu changes regularly!
Lovely food and service but very expensive wine list.
first visit and food of good standard although generally oversalted. Excellent Rum Baba , not at all sweet. and keen to see if they had wine at below £30 following the Jay Rayner review. They had a few . However no details on the fact they have Natural Wines which was odd as that is how they have justified higher prices. The ambience was difficult as extremely high noise levels due to loud music and everyone having to shout to be heard. and this was 7.30 on a wednesday. Although booked 4 weeks ago we had uncomfortable bench area seating not conducive to being able to communicate with all our party easily. I recommend reading Fay Maschler on how to reduce noise levels in modern style restaurants.
Delicious food reasonable prices, bit too noisy for conversation
Great place. Very lucky to live nearby..Super friendly service, laid back vibe, sensational tastes in an exciting and imaginative menu, and a seriously well thought out wine list. Decor is cool and perfect for the building/ space. Love it.
Our favourite restaurant in London. The food is absolutely amazing (we have never had a dish we didn’t enjoy!). Staff are always very helpful and friendly. Would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone.
Amazing. Such a great eating and drinking experience. The service was perfect and we all had a great time. Thanks so much Mat and team for looking after us and the dogs. Big ups. X
I had my birthday here with a table of 6 and the food was brilliant. I love this place for its ambiance and wide range of flavours they use in the cooking. Highly recommend the lobster.
Always good. There’s not much more to add.
I love it.
It was a get together with some friends. Great food!
This was the second time we had been. We invited friends and booked for 8pm. The service was very slow and the food when it arrived was ok but nothing special. Having waited ages for the food I was then told that the table was needed back at 10pm. I had to speak to the manager, Ben, who was indifferent and rude. Shan’t be returning. Very average food and poor service.
We had a very nice evening with delicious food and a nice obliging service. Experienced some real new meals that convinced us.
Every item on the menu tasted delicious and that started with the bread. The food was fresh and tasty - and interesting. The staff knew the content of the menu and the dishes.
Our only complaint was the price of the wine - the cheapest was £27 - the next one up was £33 for 750ml and that clearly came in a bulk supply - it was ok - but it was not brilliant.
The desert wines were delicious and interesting but very small portion.
The food though was great.
Not enough vegetables on menue. Ones on the menue not particularly interesting as before (fresh courgette for example ).
Very inspired food and great wine options. The staff was also very useful in helping us choose our food and wine combination. Highly recommended!
Delicious fresh food - just the ticket. Good portion sizes. V naughty puddings...
The selection of natural wine is excellent.
The food was very nice.
The service was really awful... very pushy.
And finally, despite I paid the gratuity, I asked a receipt including the gratuity, and we explained to me very roughly that it was impossible without looking for a solution and to be nice at the minimum.
I am in London for the real wine fair, I just went to Lyle s and 40th Maltby Street... No comparaison, I absolutely do not recommend the Western Laundry... It is a pity because twice I had very good experience at Primeurs 2 years and last year...
Another wonderful meal at WL.. Always a treat - fabulous service and wonderful food! X
The food and experience were better than expected. However I found that the wine was overpriced and when attempting to order a cheaper 2nd bottle I was persuaded to go for a higher priced one. Apart from that it was a lovely dinner and would definitely go back
Best for ambience and food in North London by miles
Delicious food, cool atmosphere and setting. Wines were good although quite expensive once we’d figured out which one to go for.
Absolutely loved the whole experience - will be back!
Great food and buzzy vibe - super for a team night out!
Butterbeans for £11? Terrible. Too many "sharing plates" had the same cloying white sauce. No personal space. Dishes too small or too expensive. Far better alternatives close by.
Fantastic experience - great atmosphere, good selection of unusual wine and exceptional food & service.
Excellent food ( best lamb chops !! ), lovely service and very cool atmosphere. Even loved the communal tables. Will def be back !
Went here following 2 amazing meals at Primeur. Our server smelled overwhelmingly of smoke, appeared to know nothing about the menu and offered no suggestions (‘sure, that’s probably fine’ to whatever we said).
The menu is severely lacking in vegetables and greens. That being said - the two meat dishes we had (beef and lamb) were great.
Will absolutely return to Primeur, will give this one a miss in the future.
I’ve not been for lunch. The food was most excellent as always. Thank you
Absolutely amazing, freshest fish, delicious vegetables and relaxed atmosphere
Beautiful ambiance. Shared tables. Excellent service. Selection of wines is very good. Small dishes, nice variety.
The wine list is the worst.
Fabulous food. Wonderful service. Beautifully designed restaurant.
Excellent restaurant. Been here now around seven times and it's always been amazing. One of the best restaurants I've been to.
Everything from interior to the food was perfect.
Nothing posh and a good atmosphere
Nothing bad but only the John Dory was better than ok. Service was fine if a bit unfriendly and the stools at the counter not very comfortable. Lots of hard services so even at lunchtime the restaurant was loud.
Terrific evening, our third visit. It never disappoints.
We had a delicious lunch, but we were a bit surprised by how expensive the wine list is. Usually you'd expect to have a few options under £45 but there was none and only about 3 options under £50 a bottle.
Our party of 6 was unlucky with the service. My partner asked her to explain how things worked in terms of ordering and she just said that she had already explained it to another diner in our party. Given the considerable noise levels (partially due to diners being seated very close to one another), this was not a constructive answer.
I'd urge the place to take out a few covers in order to allow diners some space to enjoy the great food and interior.
