What Insiders Are Saying
Want low-key cool in Highbury? Westerns Laundry is a modern wine bar & restaurant in a converted garage that does brilliant small plates.
Nothing bad but only the John Dory was better than ok. Service was fine if a bit unfriendly and the stools at the counter not very comfortable. Lots of hard services so even at lunchtime the restaurant was loud.
Terrific evening, our third visit. It never disappoints.
We had a delicious lunch, but we were a bit surprised by how expensive the wine list is. Usually you'd expect to have a few options under £45 but there was none and only about 3 options under £50 a bottle.
Our party of 6 was unlucky with the service. My partner asked her to explain how things worked in terms of ordering and she just said that she had already explained it to another diner in our party. Given the considerable noise levels (partially due to diners being seated very close to one another), this was not a constructive answer.
I'd urge the place to take out a few covers in order to allow diners some space to enjoy the great food and interior.
Food was delicious - unique dishes and really fresh ingredients
Not great value for money, food creativity, quality or cooking didn't blow us away. Service was quick and efficient but cold. Wine list needs to be reconsidered, huge jump from house to bottled.
Great food, great service, great building. Bit noisy but I am old.
This was my second visit to Western’s Laundry. The first was fantastic - delicious food, interesting menu, good service. This last visit, for my birthday dinner, wasn’t great. The menu wasn’t as good, the food not as delicious, and the waitress was verging on rude.
Really looking forward to the Fowey opening we desperately need a foodie venue
Consistently great food. Atmosphere is on point. Just love this place it's faultless.
Brilliant experience as always. First time for Sunday Lunch which was so relaxing and good fun. I really feel privileged to have found Westerns Laundry the staff are wonderful and hugely informed about the food and wine. Incidentally I don’t understand why some critics have slated the choice of offering ‘Unfiltered Wine’ Personally I absolutely loved the sparking Lambrusco....but hey what do I know?!? Thank You Westerns Laundry
One of the best restaurants I have been to and I have been to many all over the world. Been here six times over the last 12 months and food has always been amazing and the place cozy and friendly. Best stuff: the plain untouched oysters, marinated olives, whatever ham selection they have, croquettes, most of the fish dishes and of course the rum baba.
Great food, shame about the moody waitress. The wine was overpriced for its quality.
Incredible dinner, interesting amazing dishes and lovely atmosphere. We’ll definitely be back!
Consistently excellent, with great food, interesting wines and fabulous service. Come hungry and be prepared to try something new – either an ingredient or a new combination of ingredients – always shared. Love this place.
Great atmosphere, food is amazing, overall enjoyable experience - I have been a few times and will definitely be back. One of my Top 3 restaurants not only local but in London.
Exceptional. I’ve been in London 9 years and it’s as good as you will find. Very thoughtful dishes which are tasty and not over-done. Great ambience and service. Congratulations- I never post reviews but this is so deserving
It was a lovely atmosphere - in spite of the poor acoustics (which meant we had to shout).
Service was very efficient but a little partronising.
The food wasn’t anything special, and the individual plates were so tiny that you needed to order 3 each to feel full. Which ended up being poor value.
Lovely food. Great ambience. Will definitely be back.
Another splendid evening at Westerns Laundry. Delicious food always changing and always fresh and very tasty. Great wine selection too. The staff are always warm, welcoming and very professional.
Love this restaurant. Delicious food, great ambience, friendly staff. Fantastic.
Very romantic candlelit restaurant - amazing ambience, staff and most importantly, food! We had a really interesting selection of small plates and you could taste the quality of ingredients and each dish was imaginative and delicious. Can’t wait to come back!
Lovely space but a little surprised to see three people we didn’t know attached to our table of eight - especially as there seemed to be room for them at other smaller tables. Some dishes much more successful than others but overall a fun experience and some interesting tastes. V much liked chilled ambience and light airy space - perfect for Sunday lunch.
Another excellent meal. Service fantastic. One definite step forward is that wine by the glass has come down in price markedly making the whole meal far better value all round. It's not cheap but the food is really superb and always piping hot. Will be back again.
Great service, food and ambiance, very enjoyable evening.
The service was attentive and informative without being over the top, the food was just superb and the wines we tried were really great - I had been a bit apprehensive because of other reviews, but everything we had was brilliant. We had a great evening and will be back.
Anywhere that serves rum baba to share is all right by me! Delicious food, love the sharing tables and general ambiance, stellar service. Would definitely come back!
Food was delicious and tasty. Great ambience
THIS PLACE IS CONSISTENT. WE GO REGULARLY AS MY HUSBAND IS A FAN OF THE SEA FOOD THERE. IT IS INDEED VERY GOOD! WE LOVE THE CONCEPT OF SHARING FOOD AND SHARED TABLES AND IT'S LOCAL TO US. HOWEVER, THE SERVICE RUINS OUR EXPERIENCE ALMOST EVERY TIME. THE STAFF IS QUITE RUDE AND ALWAYS OVERWHELMED EVEN WHEN THE PLACE IS HALF EMPTY. THEY COULD USE A CHILL PILL.
Excellent food and wine in a lovely room. Really enjoyed and will definitely be back.
Great off beat location, very cool entrance and ambience - good value for money, although we only really needed 3 dishes!
Have to admit I am so sad to write this review as have heard only good things about western laundry. However our experience was disappointing, although the venue looked amazing when we arrived the service wasn’t friendly, our waitress seemed almost irritated by us when we asked questions about the food. Also the food was a little hit and miss - loved the oysters, dory and the cauliflower dish, but we weren’t keen on the ox tongue and a fennel pasta dish.
It’s a shame as this was going to be a great, but we thought it was going to be better to be honest.
Food was excellent as usual
Troisieme fois que j'y vais, je ne m'en lasse pas, un vrai Bonheur culinaire. Je recommande fortement cet endroit
The food was perfectly pleasant, but underwhelming for the price.
Really enjoyed this. I visited with a vegetarian so we went for all the vegie dishes - they were tasty, interesting and varied. Service was great - relaxed and friendly, but also attentive and the dishes were well paced. Overall, really excellent food and a good atmosphere. It's right in Pop Brixton so we were then well placed for some post-dinner drinks.
Just excellent food and service in a relaxed informal setting.
Amazing restaurant, quality of the food was incredible and service was top. A couple of considerations would be that the table was slightly too small for 3 people and the blackboard with the menu was difficult to read for anyone sat facing the opposite way. We'll be back!
The food was imaginative, but the quality of the ingredients didn't quite seem to carry it.
A hidden gem in Islington. Been a few times now and the food and wine was just as amazing as the first time. Found out they allow dogs too so Mr Red will soon be a regular 😍
