The (traditional or vegetarian) haggis with whisky sauce seems to be a favourite - and justifiably so.
The cocktails are rather modest in size for their price.
Service attentive and quick.
The 25% discount on food was not applied so make sure you insist if you got one.
I booked this restaurant because the menu looked good and they offered a wide selection of whiskeys. Ultimately however, this place is a bit of a tourist trap. The food was okay, decent, but nothing I would rave about or remember. Service was nothing special, and the general atmosphere was a bit "underwhelming", perhaps the other diners felt the same as we did. There are pubs in the area ordering similar food of better quality, at a better price.
Enjoyed dinner on holiday. We had a delightful young waitress and an attentive bar staff that made for a very special evening.
Gentleman working probably as the manager (or waiter lead) of this place wasn’t too friendly.
Waiters were nice though.
I also think the place is overrated in regards to the food.
Lovely food waitress was very nice and recommended dishes on the menu. Will be returning my only moan is that the restaurant was cold it could have done with some extra heating as it was cold and wet outside. Apart from that worth a visit
It was good food and service although place looked dirty, floor, table bases, shelves and toilets were not tidy.
We came here for lunch with two young children. It was nice a quiet in the day. The staff were very helpful and friendly. The food was delicious!! The only negative is that the set lunch menu was not on that day and this was not communicated online but other than that we have no complaints. It was a really lovely experience and we would eat here again.
The food was excellent (with the only cavate that an order was slightly wrong). The sirloin steak with Ardbeg sauce is my new favourite...
Delicious food & whisky. I was disappointed to find out that the kitchen was next to the toilets but luckily it was after I had eaten.
It explains the few tiny mosquitos flying around in the restaurant area.
If wasn’t for that I would’ve given 5 stars.
Very friendly staff and great value for money... Food was of a very good standard.
Nice food. Shame the vegetarian haggis wasn’t home-made for the price. Ambiance was lovely, staff were very friendly.
Post torchlight procession
Centrally located. Reasonable food and friendly service. Given location very busy which impacts on how quickly food arrived. But clean plates all around!
The food was wonderful. Great presentation as well as delicious. The service was delightful. Would look forward to returning when/if ever in Edinburgh again.
Perfect, the service was great same as the view.
The food was very delicious, especially the lamb starter
We were disappointed in the selection of scotch. For dinner, we had fish and chips. It was tasty but we had much better at other restaurants at a far lower price. Overall, I think the place is a lot of hype and you can do just as well finding a small local restaurant with ambiance and a more local flavor.
There was nothing wrong with the food, but it it was by no means memorable. We had the Cullen Skink at The Doric the day prior, and at a pub somewhere in highland earlier this year, so our expectations were high, but the Cullen Skink at this place was rather mediocre, not as rich or flavorful.
My ribeye: I asked for medium rare but got a medium. Sure I could have asked for a new one but it was just too much of a hassle and I didn't want my son to wait for me to eat or for us to eat separately. It was thin and dry, not the thicker cut and juicy steak I was hoping for.
The service was great, on the other hand. Our server, Peter, was very friendly and attentive. It's not his fault at all the food was just meh, but he definitely made things better.
I wouldn't say avoid this restaurant, because all the food was edible good quality. It just wasn't impressive for my taste and as a foodie I want every meal to be a memorable experience.
The food at the Whiski Rooms was the worst we had in Edinburgh. A £19.99 lobster mac and cheese was overcooked, boiled pasta with overcooked fish (which I’d have said was crayfish rather than lobster) and runny, bland, under seasoned sauce (assume from the water the pasta was boiled in). The steak and ale pie was completely inedible! A very sweet sauce full of mustard, it tasted like they had mixed salt with sugar! The steak was so tough I couldn’t chew it. Neither of these meals were eaten and were refunded. My husband ate his meal, though only due to the fact that he knew the chances of getting something else after 9pm during the Christmas markets was slim to none. His lamb was slow cooked but completely overdone, and the sauce was like water! We had sides with the first two meals but had to demand that we would not pay for them as we had nothing to eat them with, we weren’t even offered condiments. All in all the meal (one that was consumed), plus a bottle of average wine and 2 cocktails came to £85!!!! A very expensive night considering only one out of three of us ate something. I think this place is a tourist trap that on a good day produces average food, and on a bad day produces food that is completely inedible! The fact that the restaurant is decorated very elegantly I think helps them to get away more than they potentially should. Would not recommend at all.
Unfortunately you didn’t like two of the main courses but I do appreciate you enjoyed the venue, service and starters so thank you for explaining this to other readers on Tripadvisor. Your bill was heavily discounted and most of the food that you had eaten and enjoyed was also not charged for as a goodwill gesture. We try our hardest to deliver great food and service to our guests but for your party we didn’t so I can only wish you more success elsewhere in the future.
Absolutely loved this place! Service was amazing thank you stacey!! And we got a wonderful table as it was my sisters birthday! Couldn’t recommend the place highly enough !
Excellent food served by courteous and friendly staff with a good knowledge of what they were serving. Very Scottish in feel and menu. Loved it.
The food was ok however if I am paying £30 for a steak I would like it cooked the way I asked for it to be cooked. The young girl who waited on us for most of the night was excellent, but I can’t say the same for the gentleman who spoke to us when I questioned the frozen grapes served with my cheese and the lack of any crackers with the cheese. Eventually he brought some celery and some extra crackers and basically threw it on the table. Maybe it’s just me but if a party is spending £500 I would expect better service! Disappointing to be honest.
I have been to the WHISKI rooms several times hence why I chose to return. And as expected I wasn’t disappointed I love the view at Christmas time in the evening. Food was excellent my only criticism was that the sauce for the steak and ale pie was very sweet but otherwise no complaints. Staff as usual were attentive and friendly
Fantastic food and service was really good. Lukasz was attentive and knowledgeable , friendly and polite
Lovely restaurant, still nice experience considering it was so close to Christmas. Normally restaurants go down hill around the holidays. I will be back
After having this booked for mths I was very disappointed to find that our table was in bar area and not the restaurant, we did feel comfortable sitting while everybody else was sitting drinking. Think this establishment is over rated food and service was ok but nothing out standing.
Visiting Edinburgh and used trip advisor to find somewhere to eat. So pleased I did and glad I booked too. Fantastic place to eat; food, staff and ambience brilliant. Couldn’t believe how many people were turned away on a Wednesday evening as they were full. Highly recommend.
Excellent food and really nice food. Nice and cozy inside with nice views over the Edinburgh Christmas Market if sat near the windows.
Another beautiful meal at The Whiski Rooms. Third year in a row we have gone there with our friends for our annual Christmas night out. Fabulous food - all of us enjoyed every course. Service was also fantastic. Great night again. Hubby is very picky and he doesn’t want to wait until this time next year for another visit
My partner & I travel to Edinbrugh every year and wouldn’t eat anywhere else during our stay! Everything was perfect, so perfect my partner proposed as whisky rooms is a special place for us! .. just one tiny critism some of the tables are a little too close together spoiling the intamicy of a romantic meal, however everything else amazing!
Great little place in heart of Edinburgh, food and drink couldn’t have been better and they were very accommodating for us with our 4 year old. Service was brilliant (didn’t get our waiters name) but he was good with answering our questions and giving recommendations. It’s our 7th stay in Edinburgh and can’t believe we’ve never been here before. Will certainly be back!
Lovely place with a good varied menu. Service very good - polite and attentive staff. Great wine.
Lovely food, staff very attentive and a lovely Bistro style restaurant. Great location for the Christmas Market.
It was easy to book , the service was polite and the food was delicious
Great food, great service and a wonderful location
Nice atmosphere in the Whiski Rooms. Service was attentive but not overbearing and the food was excellent.
Not overly impressed with food considering price.
Food is lovely and good value for money. Lovely staff and very helpful with choice of whiskeys
Second time was as good as the first. Great atmosphere and great food.
Amazing night. Thank you so much for making my mums birthday so special. Will definitely recommend you
Amazing atmosphere and fantastic food, it’s the third time I’ve been to the restaurant and it’s seems to get better each time... staff were amazing too.
