Desided to choose this place as a treat even though a little on the pricey side, I was expecting it to be good. And wasn't disappointed really good food and drink. Shame the innes & gunn was out on the draught but managed to fit in some wee dram. Very good place to dine out for a nice treat.
Venison beautifully cooked with perfect grill marks and garnish and great atmosphere.
Myself and my partner had a great experience while on our holiday up to Scotland - we were met by a warm welcome from staff whom were all very friendly and had a great sense of humor. At first we went just for a few drinks and then upon discovering there is vegan haggis on the menu (my partner is vegan) it was a very easy decision as that is where we'd have our dinner that night if they had space for us to do so. We were surprised though that they were able to accommodate us that evening for dinner which was excellent as we'd all but given up finding anywhere else still offering vegan haggis (all closed temporarily due to the covid-19 situation). We returned a couple of hours later for dinner, upon which I informed one of the staff (a lovely and funny gentleman whom I'm afraid I never learnt his name) that we had in those two hour away become engaged after I proposed to my girlfriend (now happy to say is my fiance) and to my surprise he brought out a couple of glasses of bubbly on the house for us which was the nicest touch to such a special evening - thank you again so much for that if you read this!
The food was brilliant; I had the Scottish salmon which was cooked perfectly and the sauce/ jus and accompanying vegetables complimented the salmon perfectly whilst ensuring not to steal the show from the fish. The vegan haggis dish was also perfect; my partner absolutely loved it (and said it was the nicest, softest mash she's ever had). Our waitress was super friendly and lovely, and helped add to making the evening feel special - thank you :)
Overall it was the perfect evening and we had a brilliant experience here, and can highly recommend it to anyone looking to either go for drinks and experience different whisky's, and/ or for the amazing food, you can't go wrong :)
Great service, great food. Would visit again just for the chips!!
Food was amazing as usual and in spite of COVID restrictions the atmosphere and staff were friendly and welcoming
Nice food, lovely atmosphere, service was great. A very enjoyable place to dine.
Really good food- the steak and ale pie was outstanding and the white chocolate creme brûlée memorable! Very good staff service- would definitely recommend and will go back.
Lovely restaurant, fab service from Kim, the food was really good, the rib eye steak just melts in your mouth and the whisky sauce is amazing, we asked for the recipe and Kim got it for us, would definitely visit here again for a lovely experience
Amazing food, certainly the best meal we’ve had in Edinburgh.
The staff were friendly and inviting without being overbearing, and were highly knowledgable and more than able to make suggestions for the huge array of whisky they have available.
Really good traditional food will visit again if able once CoViD situation improves
Lovely place to eat but little expensive for what you get
Lovely restaurant sitting up off the Royal Mile, good selection of food. The restaurant has a nice warm friendly feel and the service was great and food tasted great!
So, we went to the Whiski rooms on Friday as I'd always passed it and thought it looked so cosy and cute. I can say there was nothing cosy or cute about any of it on Friday. We arrived and the place looked gloomy,in need of a makeover and resembled what can only be described as 'an old mans pub'. Both main doors were wide open, which i kind of understand because of COVID, but it made the place chilly and as there were doors on both sides of the restaurant, you couldn't escape the breeze no matter where you sat.
The cocktails were brilliant and couldn't be faulted, but the food left a lot to be desired. I ordered the mac and cheese and my partner got the steak pie. We couldn't finish either because the steak pie was dry and salty and the mac and cheese had a weird bitter aftertaste that tasted like a few scoots of hand-san had been added.
Overall, we were disappointed with the experience won't be back :(
The waitresses where outstanding and the food was top class definitely going back
We have been here before & I booked it for my husband’s birthday. When booking I requested a window seat & as I never had any reply to the contrary I thought this was fine. When we arrived, a man with an Irish accent greeted us & took us to a table. I politely explained that I had requested a window table & he became quite agitated & muttered something about the window tables being for 4 people. It was difficult to make out through his mask. He then gestured towards another table nearer the window & said we could sit there & before we could sit down he then said ‘oh just sit at the window then’. I was quite taken aback at his abrupt manner & I don’t know if he was having a bad day but he certainly lacked in the customer service department & to be honest it made us feel uncomfortable. I had not made any fuss just merely pointed out a request that I had made when booking. Although the waitress was lovely & the food good, our experience on this visit left a bad taste in our mouths. It has put me off coming back.
Great personable and attentive staff with a good knowledge of the menu and whisky collection - we had a very enjoyable evening
The staff was professional and attentive. The food really tasty and good portions
Taste of Scotland menu 3 course for £25 was delicious and very good value. Limited tables due to covid 19 precautions but we had booked in advance. Excellent service, very efficient and our meal was served very quickly. We would certainly go back as it was one of the nicest meals we've had.
Cannot fault anything at this place. the food is amazing and great value for set menu. Quiet because of current climate but not uncomfortably so.......first time we have been here but we will definitely return soon and wouldn't hesitate recommending it to anyone!
I have been here for food and drinks a few years back and was looking forward to coming back again.
Service was abrupt even though not busy, not very welcoming staff, shown to a table and left to it.
The whisky has rocketed in price compared to before, with whisky flights containing nothing incredibly special upwards of £30 for 4 single measures - that means one, for example, offering a Balvenie Caribbean Cask alongside some other supermarket available whiskies was £7 a measure.
The food was the biggest disappointment. My wife ordered fish and chips - the fish appeared to have been frozen and was still cold through the middle. Peas seemed to be the same. I ordered steak and although ok, it was very pricey for what it was.
So after not being asked how the food was at any point by staff, and being mightily underwhelmed, the finale was the 15% service charge the card machine suggested we added for the lacklustre experience.
Shame, as it was a beautiful place in the past, I hope this is feedback that can see the Whiski Rooms return to its former glory for excellent attentive and knowledgeable service, fine quality food and a place that serves the locals, not somewhere that traps the tourists wandering off the Royal Mile in the future.
A very good selection of whiskies including committee bottlings of Ardbeg. Cozy place. Definetly recommend for a good drams
Lovely meal, lovely location, attentive staff. Will return
The Set Menu was amazing, good value for money and one of the best meals I have every eaten. Would highly recommend and would definitely return time and time again
Food is lovely but atmosphere was ruined slightly by a waiter being abruptly rude a few times to another couple opposite us
Food was very nice would recommend and would definitely return.
Beautiful. Very well organised. Great celebration!!!
Absolutely fantastic food, had the set menu, good value and superb tasting Scottish grub! Highly recommended.
Amazing food staff very friendly felt very vivid safe. If you wanna try whisky they do flights too which were great
Friendly warm service with nice food. Cullen Skink to start and Rib eye steak for main. Both were tasty and well portioned. Followed by Cranachan. From the offer menu, good value
Gorgeous food, great service and a lovely atmosphere. Would certainly recommend for any occasion.
It was a delightful experience. Ambience was lovely, food sensational. Highly recommended. Very busy Saturday night so maybe more staff required as we had to wait a while for food and drinks, the bill etc. It didn’t bother us though as it was such a lovely dining experience. Very enjoyable.
Waiter was brilliant (Didn’t catch his name), had a good joke with him and food was exceptional! We chose it as a lunch stop but it would have been ideal for a 3 Course evening meal. Had the Cullen skink which was amazing and Perthshire lamb shoulder - Highly recommend!
Typical Scottish meals worth to try.
The food was out of this world, had starters and mains and both packed a punch, service was prompt. Overall had a very pleasant dining experience
We had a very pleasant birthday meal. The ambiance felt a bit touristy (We're locals), but the food was good and the service impeccable, friendly and spot on.
Lots of lovely vegetables with delicious salmon. Venison also excellent and starters were tasty
Service was terrible when we visited. The waiters are a bit rude.
Lovely food, great setting and delicious cocktails.
Great Scottish fare and plenty of Whiskey flights to choose from. Try the Haggis spring rolls for starters and venison as main dish.
Wonderful food. Staff perfect. Lovely atmosphere.
