bashed neeps, mashed potato, crispy leeks, whisky sauce (Whisky - Ardbeg Uigeadail - spicy and deep smoky flavours - £9.50)
Scottish beef burger topped with haggis, chunky chips
sautéed potatoes, caramelised braised red cabbage, baby carrots, pea shoot red wine and tarragon jus (Whisky – Bowmore 12 YO - peaty notes goes well! - £7.50)
Nice decor with ambient lighting. However, as we were here for our anniversary (noted on table booking), we were seated on a table in the middle of the room, so can't say it was romantic.
Menu is kept simple - personally I like that there isn't a huge selection. I'd describe it as upmarket pub grub. We both opted for haggis spring rolls - absolutely delicious! Good sized portion. I then chose the steak and ale pie - lovely thick gravy, soft meat. Good sized portion - couldn't finish this on top of the starter. Husband opted for the haggis burger - big portion of haggis on this with the chips, husband also couldn't finish it all. Cannot comment on the dessert menu as we couldn't have eaten anymore.
Although I don't think we'd return, we did enjoy the food and I am happy to recommend.
Had a lovely meal service was great and would recommended it to family and friends.xx
Fabulous Restaurant, staff were incredibly friendly and helpful with advice and recommendations. First time we have eaten Haggis (Starter), it was delicious. Mains were Haddock & Chips and Salmon with Herby Mash. We would loved to have tried a dessert but we're so full from the food.
When we return to Edinburgh we shall definitely return to Whiski Rooms, but next time we will try a Whisky Flight.
Loved the place!
We had a great evening meal at the Whiski Rooms. We choose the Cream of Mushroom Soup and the Cullen Skink for appetizers. Both dishes were very flavorful and served hot and fresh. For the mains, we enjoyed the Braised Perthshire Lamb and the Venison Loin. These dishes were both carefully prepared and beautifully presented. The lamb was delicious, and the venison juicy and tender. The vegetables that accompanied the dishes were also fresh and tasty. We would definitely choose it again. The ambiance in the restaurant was casual, warm, and friendly.
What a beautiful place to eat, very cosy, intimate atmosphere. Characterful decor. Great, friendly service. Delicious food. I had the chicken with a wild mushroom sauce. So glad we booked this in advance, as it proved very popular.
Wonderful food and excellent staff. Try the gingerbread auld fashioned!
Pleasant environment with good service, good food and good value.
I've been several times to The Whiski Rooms and have always enjoyed my meal.
It has always been a must visit for tourists as it is so central to the main tourist trail and has a great whisky selection.Prices have always been slightly higher because of this but I was a bit shocked to see how much they have risen since Covid. I think £9 for a dessert is on the steep side, especially as it had to be returned due to the sticky toffee pudding having been microwaved so much that the spoon couldn't cut into the sponge and the toffee sauce was dangerously hot!
The waitress was very apologetic and it was replaced promptly with a more edible one.
Great Scottish cuisine
Burger excellent as was Lobster Bun
You will be full
We enjoyed an excellent meal of fresh haddock and lobster. The environment is lovely a little noisey when full. Service was friendly and very prompt we will be coming again on our next visit to Edinburgh.
From the location, the service, and especially the food we had a fabulous experience. We will most certainly be back
Very tasty food with a good choice and an excellent selection of drinks.
Delicious treat for us. The meat was succulent and fresh. Service fantastic with a wonderful ambience. Would return. A bit pricey but understandable for the quality.
This was a surprise for my hubby’s birthday. My drink came flat the gas was off, so took them 15mins to replace which came with a glass with a massive chip. The mans comment was not we apologise it was I love chips!!! Then I asked for a steak well done due to being 6months pregnant. It’s came with running of blood! So I end up with a handful of chips as they were in a tin everything else covered in the blood. The place is not what it seems online, very dirty and tired. We came all the way from Glasgow. We wouldn’t recommend
Lovely wee quirky place. Would definitely go back.
Fantasticfood and great service. Waiting staff very attentive regarding allergies.
Great food and great atmosphere! Staff were very accommodating.
Lovely ambiance and great food . Loved the location
Great service, great whisky flights, enjoyable time.
One of the best plates of food i have eaten in the last year. Service excellent, bit dark inside.
Great atmosphere. Great place for whiskey tasting and a taste of authentic Scottish food.
Great restaurant, lovely atmosphere! Fantastic food. Would go back 👍
Had a great time in the Whisky Rooms. The Service and Food was brilliant and atmosphere great. Would highly recommend.
A touristy experience, the food was terrible and expensive.
Great service. Couldn’t have been easy serving us although we weren’t too noisy. The food, and choice, was impressive. Managed to get something gluten free. More gluten free options might be worth looking at? Fantastic whisky menu, as the name would suggest! Great experience.
Lovely dinner with great service and nice atmosphere.
We found this restaurant on Thursday and loved it so much we came again the next day. The food was amazing as was the atmosphere.
Would highly recommend ☺️
We were recommended this restaurant and were not disappointed. Very good menu we had the fish and chips and the fish was delicious, friendly attentive staff. Very enjoyable evening.
We were really looking forward to our meal here as had been recommended to us from several friends. One of the doors was open near where we were seated. It was really windy outside and I was getting quite cold due to the draught from the door. I swapped seats with my partner and he lasted about 10 minutes before he started to feel it. The girl opposite had even put her coat on for a while. When we asked the waitress to shut the door she did, which we were grateful for. What looked the the manager then came through and asked the girl why the door was shut, which she replied the gentleman had asked her. He then replied, what the one with the jacket! We could clearly hear all of the conversation. It made us feel very uncomfortable and as though we had done something wrong. I have to say the food that we had was lovely but for us, we would not recommend due to the rudeness of one member of staff.
Excellent food, service and setting. Lovely evening 🙂
Fabulous place. Lovely helpful waitress. Food amazing. Best risotto I have had in long time. Husband had haddock and chips which he said was just excellent
Fantastic food and drink. Great friendly service. Will be visiting again!
Visited for our anniversary - partner ordered the haggis which was our first time trying it and it was great! The roast chicken with potato dauphinoise was excellent too! Wine was ok but not worth the price tag. Service was fine but quite impersonal.
As soon as we got in, we were extremely confused as there was no clear signage of where we were supposed to wait to be seated. Several staff went past and nobody acknowledged us. Really disappointing first impression. Then we go seated and our waitress was attentive and lovely, and the food was amazing. However, a bit overpriced. Three haggis spring rolls were £9, an old fashioned £10. We could have probably had a better experience elsewhere for less money.
Had diner with husband and 2 family members and unfortunately my steak was really disappointing. Wasn’t medium rare and meat wasn’t the best quite fatty. The chips were like frozen chips and a few limp green leaves with dressing and vine tomatoes was underwhelming. £29 for steak is pretty normal but I have had sooo much nicer for this price range.
Food was decent. Some dishes such as the haggis spring rolls turned out to be delicious, others like the Scottish Salmon were disappointing.
The service was poor, although the servers were helpful, they were clearly understaffed making it hard to get a drink etc, and despite being called “Whiski Rooms” some clearly didn’t understand much about the whiskey on offer.
Decor and atmosphere were both nice, but little things like the place needing a good clean and cutlery being put down on the table without napkins detracted from the kind of experience we were expecting.
Lastly, it was disappointing that some servers were regularly taking their masks off as they walked around.
Very well presented, tasty, quality food. Interesting menu which lots of things to tempt you.
Great food. Great service. Would highly recommend.
Super value for money as we did the set menu. Great friendly service too.
