Excellent food, service and setting. Lovely evening 🙂
Fabulous place. Lovely helpful waitress. Food amazing. Best risotto I have had in long time. Husband had haddock and chips which he said was just excellent
Fantastic food and drink. Great friendly service. Will be visiting again!
Visited for our anniversary - partner ordered the haggis which was our first time trying it and it was great! The roast chicken with potato dauphinoise was excellent too! Wine was ok but not worth the price tag. Service was fine but quite impersonal.
As soon as we got in, we were extremely confused as there was no clear signage of where we were supposed to wait to be seated. Several staff went past and nobody acknowledged us. Really disappointing first impression. Then we go seated and our waitress was attentive and lovely, and the food was amazing. However, a bit overpriced. Three haggis spring rolls were £9, an old fashioned £10. We could have probably had a better experience elsewhere for less money.
Had diner with husband and 2 family members and unfortunately my steak was really disappointing. Wasn’t medium rare and meat wasn’t the best quite fatty. The chips were like frozen chips and a few limp green leaves with dressing and vine tomatoes was underwhelming. £29 for steak is pretty normal but I have had sooo much nicer for this price range.
Food was decent. Some dishes such as the haggis spring rolls turned out to be delicious, others like the Scottish Salmon were disappointing.
The service was poor, although the servers were helpful, they were clearly understaffed making it hard to get a drink etc, and despite being called “Whiski Rooms” some clearly didn’t understand much about the whiskey on offer.
Decor and atmosphere were both nice, but little things like the place needing a good clean and cutlery being put down on the table without napkins detracted from the kind of experience we were expecting.
Lastly, it was disappointing that some servers were regularly taking their masks off as they walked around.
Very well presented, tasty, quality food. Interesting menu which lots of things to tempt you.
Great food. Great service. Would highly recommend.
Super value for money as we did the set menu. Great friendly service too.
Lighting was really dark and there wasn’t much atmosphere or music. We had 2 courses and 2 alcoholic drinks but was in and out within the hour. Staff was studenty and lacked experience of the menus despite it costing £80 over all just for two people. Wouldn’t recommend.
Would return for the quality of food ambience and good service in that order. All above the average. Great experience all round.
Food was the best I’ve had in a very long time. Great atmosphere, cocktails were delicious and the food outstanding from taste, amount, presentation
Very lovely restaurant, food was excellent and we sat at a window table, so enjoyed the view.
We were in Scotland celebrating our first year anniversary together. I had booked this a month in advance to take him out for a special dinner. Before we traveled to Scotland, my boyfriend had proposed and asked me to marry him so our Scottish trip was extra special. The lovely lady who served us was extremely kind and gave us both a free glass of Prosecco to congratulate us when my fiancé had told her what happened. Lovely staff and lovely food! He really enjoyed the steak!
Scottish tasting menu very good overall, but would have preferred Haggis to be a bit more 'rustic' & peppery (my taste). I would recommend this restaurant.
Visited on Tuesday 7th September 2021, found the restaurant to have a warm and inviting atmosphere, the staff were very welcoming and attentive! Above all the food and drinks were amazing! I highly recommend this place
We always visit this restaurant when we come to Edinburgh. Would highly recommend the food is amazing.
First visit to Edinburgh, this place was recommended by my daughter and it lived up to expectations. We had a great meal and I finished off with a flight of regional whiskeys, delicious 😋
Friendly, efficient staff making it a great night out
Fantastic! Friendly staff and wonderful food.
Great food, good selection and fantastic surroundings. A really enjoyable experience all round.
Everything was fine apart from the choice of loud music which was inappropriate for dining. We go out to talk to each other not have to shout at each other! They did turn it down however when asked in all fairness
On our little Edinburgh road trip , Originally we didn't have a booking here but due to our reservation elsewhere being cancelled we stumble across this little gem . Arrived at 6pm so not to busy , the food was Gorgeous , ambience was perfect , .. all in all very very good!!! . Thank you x
Great wee find. Thoroughly enjoyed our visit , definitely be back.
Was there with friends for my birthday meal. The service and food was so good, will definitely be back.
Very nice steaks and cocktails, visited several times and never disappointed
Both the food and drinks were amazing. The staff were great too.
Central location on The Mound, 5/8 mins from Waverly station. ElNice atmosphere with friendly staff. Very good whisky selection and excellent food: recommend the lobster mac and cheese, beautifully balanced and plenty lobster. Book before you go especially at the weekend as its very popular. Would definately use again.
Overall a lovely experience, we were welcomed by a lovely
Gentleman and sat on a nice table with two girls serving us. Their service was efficient and friendly and one the the girls (black long ish hair) was very funny! (:
Venison was cooked medium rare which was very much appreciated and had a smooth overall flavour.
Haggis was a first for my OH and says it was delicious. The only let down were the desserts, unfortunately, not well balanced and overall too sweet.
Creme brûlée felt too heavy, more like custard consistency (possible because of the white chocolate - which also wasn’t very prominent) and the Whiski Crananchan also too sweet and sauce overpowering.
Overall though, absolute purely enjoyable experience. Thank you.
Booked here because everywhere else was full. Really glad of this because the food, service and atmosphere were amazing!
Friendly staff, prompt service. Food well cooked and plated. As good as it always was!
Good food, some meals (steak) on the smaller side. Fantastic meal selection though. Chicken was a bit burnt from the grill, little charcoley on the top but otherwise juicy and delicious. Staff was nice but service was quite slow. Asked for the bill and had to go get the waiter ourselves after 25 mins of waiting for him to come with the terminal. Amazing location, central. Went for a dinner to celebrate graduation.
Great food, friendly attentive staff and lovely restaurant. Would recoded the charcuterie and lobster.
Amazing food and incredible whiskey selection! Loved it
Salmon starter very good. Chicken very basic on menu which was on the bone - very basic dish for £18.
Also no sauvingnon blanc and no vinegar! Disappointing.
Always a favourite place to visit in Edinburgh! Great atmosphere & drinks. Food is incredible! Highly recommend.
Scottish good done very well. The Cullen skink and veggie haggis were great.
The food was beaut and the staff really friendly ….,..,,,,,,
Food was average compared to my last visit in June 21. I got the fish and chips but the fish was very, very dry. I was with 6 others who all but one had the fish and they said the same. It didn't help that the restaurant ran out of vinegar!!!! For a Glaswegian that is sacrilege for you fish supper lol. Seriously though apart from running out of vinegar they also ran out of Brandy, my mother was seriously unimpressed with that! What I can't understand was why no one could go to the nearest convenience shop and buy a bottle of vinegar (cause lots of west coasters do visit the east!!!) and a bottle of Brandy rather than telling customers they don't have any. When I worked in a bar if we ran out of stuff we ran to the nearest shop to replace the item to keep the customer happy. We enjoyed the rest of the meal, but this did leave a bad taste, no pun intended.
Stunning location and one of the best meals we had in Edinburgh. Could not fault the food, Cullen Skink is a must! We loved the whisky flights which was fun! Service slow but this was acknowledged and
given a reduction on the bill. We could not get booked in until 9:30 and therefore was very quiet in the restaurant and lacked atmosphere compared to the bar next door. Would try and book earlier next time. A must visit, right by the royal mile with a few Scottish pubs nearby if fancied a wee nightcap.
