Lovely prawns in the tempura, nice lobster and good cocktails. The staff are very friendly but there’s just something about the place that I can’t put my finger on which means I won’t be rushing back.

All the seafood was delicious. Lovely sauces too. Only good gripe was the straw fries weren’t very warm. Biggest issue for them though is we were the only two customers for lunch! How they get more, the food deserves it!

Staff very helpful and efficient, attentive and friendly to customers.

Food was very nice unfortunately the portions were so small more like tapas size, but charging main meal prices. Oyster good value in the happy hour.

Had to get something to eat later that night.

BYOB on Mondays and Tuesdays is a real boon. But it was very quiet. Not that that impacted the food quality, which is consistently high. Use it or lose it, fellow diners...

The place is very nice. However, tha waitres are not even. I mean that some of them don’t know how to deal with wine or how to serve the food. Moreover, as oysters are absolutely perfect than food from the menu is not event. We ordered twice the octopus and one plate was beautiful and portion was fair, in the second one it was very smal portion of the octopus compared with the first plate. For sure the compay meed to work more on the dessert card. I tried the chocolate one wirh rasperry ice cream, the dessert was hard to eat, the ice creme wasn’t tasty. So, overall oysters 9/10, menu food 6/10, Desserts 2/10, drinks 7/10, service 3/10. Is definitely missing the good service, nobody sayings goodbye to the guest, they just leaving, and I will say is not very professional if the chef help coming on the floor to serve the food with his dirty apron. Nevertheless, We might fo back there for Oysters only, I doubt that we will give another chance to the menu food. And if they are asking for the special comment at the reservation section, it would be nice if someone will say something about it, like happy anniversary, happy birthday or similar. I did special comment to our reservation because we had anniversary, and in my opinion my request wasn’t take. Seriously or even at all. Regards

4 adults are here for a celebration meal. From start to finish the experience was wonderful. Second time at the restaurant and it didn’t disappoint. We took advantage of the buck a shuck offer and had plenty oysters for £1 each! The waiter was really nice in explaining all the different types. We then went on to have the hot seafood platter which was to die for! This is the best seafood food restaurant in edinburgh!

Be careful with the menu, with so many delicious sharing dishes you can get sucked into an expensive bill!
Highly recommended.

Lovely selection of seafood, beautifully presented. We had plates of oysters, tempura squid, crab scotch egg and scallops. The seaweed salad was full of flavour. Good selection of drinks to accompany these dishes. Very high quality food in an atmospheric room, with attentive service made this a great supper for us.

I absolutely love this place!
I'm the Reservations Manager for the Dunstane Houses and I regularly recommend the White Horse Oyster Bar to my guests as it never fails to disappoints!
My most recent personl visit firmed this up as my favourite restaurant in Edinburgh. It's trendy, it's personal, it's quaint but buzzing, it's creative and... it has "Buck-a-Shuck", need I say more! The staff are attentive and the bar menu is anything but dull and it's in a part of town that's away from the hustle n bustle but by no means off the beaten track.
Keep up the great work guys!
Lisa

What should have been a perfect meal ended up a big disappointment. We were met by a lovely hostess but it went downhill from there. We ordered the hot seafood platter which at £89 we thought was extremely expensive but decided to splash out for the night that was in it. Unfortunately our fries came out a few minutes after the platter & they were burnt. We had to ask twice for our bread which was to accompany the platter. It just didn’t run smoothly. I was also waiting quite a while for my second drink. I know it was New Year’s Eve but for the prices we paid we expected a better experience.

Five of us were visiting Edinburgh for the week of New Year's Eve from Florida. We booked our NYE reservation on Open Table for an early dining at 5:30pm, so that we could enjoy a leisurely visit and then head to the Hogsmanay Street Party. White Horse Oyster & Seafood Bar was the perfect venue! The staff and restaurant ambiance was friendly, inviting, and comfortable. We loved the tapas/appetizer/shared plates concept - versus a regular meal w/entree. We ordered an amazing assortment of dishes - sharing them between the 5 of us. Each and every dish was delicious and beautifully presented and prepared. We wrapped up with delectable desserts, both food and drinks. Such an awesome way to kick off the New Year!

Went for the deal on the oysters between 4-6 Mon to Thurs, great value at £1 per oyster and choice of 4 sources. The oysters were beautifully presented and were very fresh and tasty. The service was great, each choice explained by the waiting staff and very attentive without being overbearing. Will definitely come again.

This place is a an absolute gem! It’s gorgeous inside and the food options are amazing. We had oysters to begin then the hot platter and we loved every thing. Super tasty!

The only draw back was that it was really dark. Really dark! We needed to get our phones out to read the wine list. And the waiting staff were a little unnatentive. We had to keep asking them over and they were rather slow. So so pleasant and friendly but just need to be on the ball a little more.

Overall, absolutely loved it and can’t wait for next time.

Excellent seafood and shellfish. Simply put, one of the best meals I've ever had in Edinburgh. The care and quality of service and food is excellent. Service is attentive without being overbearing. The food is served promptly and is exceptionally good. The raw and cooked oysters are great, the scallops are sublime. I highly recommend this to anyone who likes seafood. The sharing plates are served tapas style, and are perfect for sharing with your dining partner(s).

I brought my own bottle of wine because the website said for a £5 corkage it was possible. Once there, I was told only on monday and tuesday I could bring my own wine. We also informed the restaurant that we were celebrating a birthday and nothing special was done. So I didn't think it was a good value to eat there. Drinks over priced. Food good, ambiance good. Service was okay. Kind of phony.

We had a fantastic anniversary meal at White Horse. It was perfect for such an occasion. We began with oysters and Prosecco, the oysters were fresh and the hot platter we had as a main was lovely, varied and plentiful. We finished with cheese and we particularly liked the blue cheese on the list. Atmosphere, service, value, I can’t fault anything in that experience. Highly recommended.
