Each plate of food had its own unique delicious taste! The cocktail menu is great, different from the usual and delicious. Even wine by the glass was good.
Had a very tasty lunch and because we booked on a Tuesday we brought our own wine and paid corkage.Food was fresh and well presented and service by the staff was attentive but not overbearing. Would recommend this for fresh seafood.
Loved the food, option to bring your own wine is a winner, great for a special occasion ....we wee bit pricy but the food , service and ambiance were just first class. We will be back.
Excellent food and a lovely evening but could probably do with one more member of staff on the floor
Excellent atmosphere and food first class with a menu presented a bit differently with sharing plates
I received a voucher from my daughter as a birthday gift, had a fantastic selection of seafood and good beer, great service and pleasant atmosphere, I’ll be back.
A real honest seafood bar with outstanding ingredients. Come early for the oyster "Happy Hour". My wife and I shared the chargrilled mackerel (outstanding), crab and crayfish toast (very yummy), the salmon (excellent), and the mussels (I am a mussel aficionado and was a bit disappointed). The potatoes were amazing.
Excellent seafood served by polite and welcoming staff.
I can honestly say we had a great experience dining staff were super friendly and helpful with choices food was awesome will defo be back
Delicious local seafood.Keep your eyes peeled or your phone on to find the place..its easy to walk straight past. Very attentive staff who understood the food they were serving.
One of my favourite restaurants. Food is spectacular, staff are very friendly. The wine list is great, as are the cocktails. It is my main recommendation to friends and colleagues for amazing seafood. Personal favourites are Monkfish Satay, Tempura Prawns & the Octopus. Push the boat out and try the Tempura Oysters - amazing!
A great meal with some of the best fish and seafood I’ve had in a long time. Fantastic ingredients and the friendliest of service too!
Simply a great find. Will definitely be back. Staff were extremely helpful. The food will not disappoint
Phenomenal restaurant for seafood. The house platter is perfect for 2 and the Loch oysters are fantastic. A little pricey but overall a great place to eat seafood In Edinburgh. Really good old fashioneds as well!
Love the food, the people, the atmosphere, the music, love everything about this place. I wish there was a White Horse in London where I live.
Went with my partner on our visit to Edinburgh. Not amazing value, but the quality of food and service was fantastic!
Discovered this restaurant during our summer holiday, just had to come back again for the fantastic food. You guys are true food artists!
Fabulous. Great food. Lovely service. Nice atmosphere. Recommend it highly
The Horse is a great venue with great service and I've been four times and really enjoyed it. The last meal I had was just a little disappointing given the hight standards set. I couldn't taste grapefruit against the tuna, the one-razor-clam-dish was lost in chorizo and a bit meagre, the crab scotch egg was very good, subtle and tasty, the chocolate dessert was ordinary and the coffee luke warm. I will try again but I'm not quite so in love.
Great menu, great service! Try the tempura oysters.
We had another absolutely outstanding night in the restaurant and bar - this is fast becoming my very favourite restaurant in Edinburgh. It has great food and a brilliant atmosphere. Looking forward to my next visit.
Superb fish and seafood menu, with well-prepared, rich tasting dishes. To start, the oysters were well selected and presented, then the sharing plates were great as well as the tempura. Great service too.
Good food. Was very impressed at how delicious it was. Locally sourced ingredients, all the staff were helpful and relaxed. Will be back!
One of my favourite places the food is the best I’ve tasted king crab legs are amazing alongside the scallops , staff are so friendly and attentive can not say enough good things about this place !!! 5 stars 🌟
Enjoyed the sharing plates idea alongside various sizes of seafood platters. High quality food and excellent range of wine by the glass.
Food was amazing, in particular the monkfish satay. As soon as we left, we booked again for next month!
Great food and service, mackerel, beetroot and horseradish cream was top of the list. Will be back.
Food was great... Small portions and expensive for what you get. Nice atmosphere.
Quite nice fusion seafood. House platter was a bit small for the price, but seafood was fresh.
My second visit, and just as impressive. Nice ambience and good well trained and arrentive staff, but you go for the food and it is magnificent. I’ll be back, JOHN
Second time here and didn’t disappoint - fantastic seafood, good wine, lovely atmosphere and great service. Highly recommend!

Very welcoming staff and nice ambience. Didn't get to try the cocktails (driving) but the cocktail menu was very tempting. We ordered some small plates instead of a platter. Oysters very fresh and delicious; octopus and merguez extremely goo; crab scotch egg OK; scallops beautiful; tempura squid and oyster not great, the batter was way too thick; straw fries and sourdough very nice. All in all a good meal with great service. Would go back and definitely try the cocktails but steer clear of the tempura.
MY wife’s birthday. Just a fantastic place, great food and lovely staff
While a bit expensive, go for the "tapas" option as the seafood platters are disappointing
Was SOOOO looking forward to eating here having followed the place on Instagram and was very excited about the food I had seen. However in reality - ah isn't it always the case? - food wasn't quite up to the hype. We went on a Sunday night - maybe usual chef not in? Tempura batter was definitely not tempura - it was a beer batter. The squid was deep fried in the orange "chip shop" batter making it greasy and chewy, and not light as tempura should be. I wish I had said something - but I figured maybe I was wrong about tempura. I should have gone with my instinct, as the very next day they posted an image of the tempura squid dish which was definitely tempura. Light, delicate....not at all what we had been served. Gutted!!). Lobster tail at £14 was tiny and a little tough - too much money for such a small piece. However the flat iron and charred mackerel was good and the gorgeous hasselback potatoes were a highlight. Burrata portion was a little mean and sliced up into little pieces rather than a nice, proud ball. Cocktails were delicious - we stayed on longer to have a few as the atmosphere was conducive to having a couple of nightcaps. Service was good throughout, though it fell at the last hurdle by making us wait 15 minutes to pay after receiving our bill and having to ask twice for our coats (we would happily have got them ourselves but weren't shown where they were). If I went back I would have the seafood platters rather than the small plates. Although seemingly pricy, I think they would be much better value for money and eating seafood at its stripped back best would almost certainly have been a better experience here.
This is a great restaurant - a brilliant find. The menu is very varied and if there is one thing to go for, it would have to be the monkfish which is just incredible.
The prices are reasonable and the staff couldn’t be more helpful. The ambience and decor of the restaurant is fantastic.
This now ranks as my favourite restaurant in Edinburgh - I absolutely loved it.
Creative fish dishes beautifully presented, stylish surroundings and the most personable staff. I rarely visit a restaurant in Edinburgh twice, but with this place I make an exception.
interesting tapas style dining menu, most of the dishes were well cooked and tasty, with the exception of the tempura squid which was a bit too greasy and chewy. some portion sizes seemed a bit small v the price of the dish
This was fourth or fifth visit. Food is imaginative and well-prepared; staff are enthusiastic and friendly. Not cheap but not expensive either: probably about right. Sharing plates is the best way to experience the full range of dishes on offer. Perhaps a bit too much background noise for your Granny but an excellent venue for all other occasions.
