Food was generally good. Oysters excellent but tempura poor- just batter. Service very poor. Lady in charge ignored us all night and we had to constantly ask for drinks, food.

Fab cocktails to start with the oysters, we has a SurfSide Tommy's each. We ordered the house platter which was awesome, the tuna tartar is amazing! had a lovely bottle of NZ sauvignon blanc to wash it all down. great wee place, good atmosphere, nice and chilled. I will be back!

Celebrated my birthday in the Whitehorse, and I had an amazing night. When we arrived to our table they gave us complimentary drinks of bubbles. The food was delicious ordered the seafood platter and wanted to have more but need a space for dessert lol. The ambiance was great, staff was very friendly and warm, overall they made my birthday unforgettable. Thank you so much.

Fabulous Fathers Day lunch. Food was excellent and staff were welcoming and knowledgeable. Only downside was booths are rather tight for 4 adults and a 13 year old.

If you love seafood i would recommend getting just oysters. A plate of 6 maybe. We got the Full house, the oysters were the best, the rest was just salty.

Food was delicious, service not great. Probably best for lunch. Definitely go back but service could be a bit better, our only criticism. They also had run out of dessert wines?
But good cocktail selection.

I have to say I was disappointed. The tapas was very small for what was charged & the trout was bland & the straw fries cold & too thin. I also didn’t enjoy the coupling if fries with brown crab mayo. It didn’t work for me. The tempura however was fantastic & with the pickled ginger & dipping sauce it was really memorable. The cocktails were good but too small!

Despite requesting a round table at the time when I booked, we were initially shown to a booth! This was rectified when I pointed this out! The service was very good and all the waitresses were working very hard. We received our starters relatively quickly from ordering but after we ordered our next course there was quite a wait! The overall experience was good and we will return particularly because the waiting staff were so friendly and helpful.

Beautiful setting
Very high quality of the seafood
Modern interpretation of the recipes
The only defect found, the poor aspiration of the room, due to which the clothes became impregnated with the smell of cooking

Food was delicious however to feel satisfied after dining here you would require quite a few dishes which will work out to be an expensive night and that is no including any drinks.
That being said we thoroughly enjoyed our evening and will go back

So pleased to see this place busy last night - last time it was empty and I worried for its viability.

The food is just spot on: simple, well cooked seafood, tapas style, to share. Oyster happy hour at5-6pm each day is awesome at £1 per oyster. Good wines by he glass, helpful staff.

But the seafood is the centrepiece. Gorgeous cured sea trout, sweet unctuous lobster salad, monkfish satay all stood out. And the oysters... love this place.

Table was too small to accommodate all the plates which arrived randomly. Small helpings. Billed as sharing plates but basically were starter sizes. Lobster salad was tasteless and rubbery. Crab scotch egg had no crab in it that I could taste. When I told the waitress she was not interested. I expected she would of at least offered to pass my comment onto the chef. No-one asked if we enjoyed our meal at any point. When the bill came I asked a different waitress if she was intending to ask us if we had enjoyed it. She said that as I had complained earlier she was not going to ask.
I wouldn't go back and would not recommend it. There are dozens of better places to eat in Edinburgh.

This was my second experience of the White Horse and once again we were delighted. The concept of smaller dishes is really good as it enables you to experiment. Top fir me was the razor clams with chorizo and chilli, which was superb. All in all 5/5.

We had the happy hour oysters which were £1 each and great value. They were so fresh and tasty. The service was amazing, and the place was quiet enough to hear eachother. My only problem was the rest of the menu was far too expensive for small plates and so I would only dine here for oysters.

Great location, excellent service and well cooked food.

Sharer plates - not exactly sharers, more like small plates. Quite misleading.

I’d like to see more on the plate for the price point.

Great, charming place, the white horse is a great spot to appreciate sea food. With the crab baskets on the wall and the menu made into a pick and match sort of thing makes Your eyes just pop while glancing at all the lovely choices. I would recommend taking 4 options per person. Then that's over 50 quid. Bit on the pricey side it seems so be aware. It is fine dining seafood at its finest. Very friendly staff, yet a place more for a special occasion

Great food and great service - we arrived early but we were able to get our table. We loved the range of sharing plates/tapas style dishes and could have easily eaten the same again. A small problem with one of our drinks was efficiently and effortlessly dealt with. All in all, a great birthday meal!!!
