Food pricey but very tasty. Some warning that the dishes would come out at different times would have been nice. Customer service when available was good, felt where our table was left us a little neglected. We were there for a birthday and even though they asked us prior if it was a celebration there was no mention of it, normally when restaurants ask they give a glass of bubbles or a complimentary sweet but they didn’t make any mention of it. Why ask if you don’t want to make the dining experience a little more special. Overall it was an nice experience.
Went to celebrate my girlfriend’s 21st. Atmosphere was lovely, food was amazing. The only thing at the end they wanted to close so I was rushed and not treated very well unfortunately..would still recommend it though
Very nice restaurant- wait staff was knowledgeable and friendly. Food was all excellent.
Pleasant service & atmosphere - beautiful & delicious fish & shellfish
Really nice atmosphere and the food was great. Went for the small plates options and oysters. Very friendly service. Interior design is great.
Would definitely go again.
superb seafood. good selection of beer and wine.
accommodated younger child
Both the food and service was excellent! We had the sharing platter which could not have been fresher! But lots of other individual plates to choose from. Would definitely recommend and will definitely return.
This restaurant had the most delicious oysters I've eaten anywhere! It was pricey to me (3 pounds an oyster seem steep), but everything was good. They serve mostly small plates, so you can try a number of different dishes which was a great way to get a taste of different types of foods. The noise level was a bit high for me but not too overwhelming. I would definitely recommend.
Absolutely phenomenal meal. Highly recommend. We ordered just about one of everything on the menu of the small plates and everything was outstanding. Service was wonderful. Can’t complain about anything.
Fantastic lunch, oysters and a cooked seafood platter, great bottle of wine, friendly and attentive service. Couldn’t recommend more strongly for an indulgent, fresh lunch.
Our server made our evening out very special but it is difficult to distinguish which wins out the food or the service. We were a party of 4 (2 couples) and we did a shared plate dinner. Each selection was better than the next and we found ourself with great anticipation to see what delight was coming.
The evening was topped off with a fantastic desert recommendation that closed out a wonderful meal and evening.
A must visit when in Edinburgh! Amazing menu
We really enjoyed our evening at the restaurant. Excellent food served with style. Friendly and attentive staff.
I dined alone recently on my short visit to Edinburgh. A very obnoxious man on the table next to me threatened to ruin my experience, but the waitresses were friendly and efficient, and the food was delicious. Will definitely come back!
Food great but we were incredibly rushed and had to wait a while for the food
This was my 4th visit to the White Horse and the most disappointing. I get the concept of small plates, but to find one of our party receiving their first dish some 20 minutes after the first of the party received theirs and the fact the sides of broccoli were received last, caused me to raise the matter with the Manager, who did her best to explain the concept and offer us a free bottle of wine. Fair enough, but a special occasion turned out to be not so special and I wouldn’t go back again at peak time on a Saturday.
Excellent seafood choices & all we chose was wonderful.
Super noisy, was not nice to have a convesation.. very busy service girls, also forgot my drink, got two wrong dishes..
But exelent Oysters!!!
I’ve been coming to Edinburgh on and off fo over 10 years and this is my new favorite restaurant. Incredible food service and value. You must go when you are in Edinburgh
Excellent service and food! Would love to come back
Food was outstanding and the service was great, overall we had a fabulous lunch!
Very expensive for quite ordinary food with micro portions.
Very good seafood restaurant. The oysters are delicious and the beef was perfectly cooked. The lobster and oyster tempura were also quite good
I like this restaurant and have eaten there 3 times in the last 2 months. It has been really good. Good food and great service. So I invited my boss and 3 other senior people in our organisation there for a business lunch and booked well in advance. We were crammed into a booth so small we could not eat without coordinating our movements. The food was good with the exception of the straw fries which in taste and texture felt like they had been reheated or just kept warm for too long. Staff were not attentive. This was an expensive disappointment .
Loved this place! It's quite small so it's probably best to reserve a table. Food is delightful, great ingredients and attention to detail. Waitress was lovely and knowledgeable. Tad on the pricy side but perfect for a special occasion. Will return and recommend.
My second visit and just as good. Great seafood. Very friendly service.
Restaurant is beautiful, the menu enjoyable , the service slow
Outstanding food and service, would highly recommend and will definitely be back!
Food was fine but overpriced very small plates if your looking for a lighter meal and don’t mind paying over the odds this is the place for you.
We had a really great visit to The White Horse, would definitely go again and would definitely recommend.
Great food, brilliant service and staff are very friendly and attentive.
Brother over from the states, very special evening
Amazing seafood, great service that was friendly and attentive without being in your face or pushing sales. The only thing we all agreed on our table of 4 was that the pickled mussels were not a hit.
Will definitely go back
Toller Service, sehr gutes Essen. Die besten Jakobsmuscheln die wir je hatten. Für die exponierte Lage noch moderate Preise.
Had a superb lunch with excellent food and service
Excellent service and great food.
Thought the wine list (white in particular) could be more extensive /interesting with more options and the list just felt like one of the large wine suppliers ‘(alliance, inverleith etc) off the shelf’ lists...
Lovely food as I say, but £19 crabs legs on the pricey side!!
We had a lovely dinner at White Horse recently and would highly recommend it. The food was very well prepared and presented. Make sure to make a reservation especially during the summer.
We booked last minute and we knew we would be in ‘bar seating’ but we ended up in the window bench which wasn’t very comfortable. We ordered oysters which were delicious, and the hot seafood platter to share. This was very tasty but inadequate to share for 2 at £85 for dinner and I think we were paying a premium due to touristy location perhaps. Some bread would have helped fill us up but there are better seafood platters to be had for similar cost in the city where bread etc is not needed due to the volume of the seafood in the dish. I kid you not when I tell you my husband bought a black pudding supper on the way home as he was starving!
Wonderful food in a beautifully appointed space. Just far enough down the royal mile to not be overrun with clickits and still conveniently located.
Not very generous plates and average quality seafood, however excellent cocktails.
