Was SOOOO looking forward to eating here having followed the place on Instagram and was very excited about the food I had seen. However in reality - ah isn't it always the case? - food wasn't quite up to the hype. We went on a Sunday night - maybe usual chef not in? Tempura batter was definitely not tempura - it was a beer batter. The squid was deep fried in the orange "chip shop" batter making it greasy and chewy, and not light as tempura should be. I wish I had said something - but I figured maybe I was wrong about tempura. I should have gone with my instinct, as the very next day they posted an image of the tempura squid dish which was definitely tempura. Light, delicate....not at all what we had been served. Gutted!!). Lobster tail at £14 was tiny and a little tough - too much money for such a small piece. However the flat iron and charred mackerel was good and the gorgeous hasselback potatoes were a highlight. Burrata portion was a little mean and sliced up into little pieces rather than a nice, proud ball. Cocktails were delicious - we stayed on longer to have a few as the atmosphere was conducive to having a couple of nightcaps. Service was good throughout, though it fell at the last hurdle by making us wait 15 minutes to pay after receiving our bill and having to ask twice for our coats (we would happily have got them ourselves but weren't shown where they were). If I went back I would have the seafood platters rather than the small plates. Although seemingly pricy, I think they would be much better value for money and eating seafood at its stripped back best would almost certainly have been a better experience here.
This is a great restaurant - a brilliant find. The menu is very varied and if there is one thing to go for, it would have to be the monkfish which is just incredible.
The prices are reasonable and the staff couldn’t be more helpful. The ambience and decor of the restaurant is fantastic.
This now ranks as my favourite restaurant in Edinburgh - I absolutely loved it.
Creative fish dishes beautifully presented, stylish surroundings and the most personable staff. I rarely visit a restaurant in Edinburgh twice, but with this place I make an exception.
interesting tapas style dining menu, most of the dishes were well cooked and tasty, with the exception of the tempura squid which was a bit too greasy and chewy. some portion sizes seemed a bit small v the price of the dish
This was fourth or fifth visit. Food is imaginative and well-prepared; staff are enthusiastic and friendly. Not cheap but not expensive either: probably about right. Sharing plates is the best way to experience the full range of dishes on offer. Perhaps a bit too much background noise for your Granny but an excellent venue for all other occasions.
Fabulous seafood feast. The lobster tail and octopus with merguez were winners but we loved everything. A superb birthday meal
This is a tapas place. We loved the tomato and burrata. It had a lot of flavor. The monkfish satay with peanut sauce was excellent. The sesame tuna was very veiny and had no flavor.
Loved the size of food for sharing and everything was very tasty.
Always good. Has become a regular spot for lunch and dinner.
Very busy restaurant which tells you that the food must be good. everything was well cooked , but my mother did not enjoy her hasselback poatoes not crispy enough. this must be my favourite restaurant
Food was outstanding. Everything was done perfectly. Ambiance much more cool and contempary than anticipated.
Really enjoyable night!
Food was gorgeous except the tempura which was disappointing.
Service was amazing, really lovely staff!
I have been here twice now and had a great experience on each occasion, food in fantastic and staff are very knowledgeable.
Had Hugh hopes as we are big supporter of the other restaurants in the chain. We really tried to like it and there were too many things that just didn’t stack up. Service was patchy to say the least. We had to ask for water 3 times, the bill twice and then chase up our change (despite the fact we’d already tipped). Some of the dishes were nice, none were excellent and one was dreadful. When we queried the ingredients (tasted like very strong aniseed) it was received as a real pain and even though the whole dish was left practically untouched we weren’t asked why. A light lunch was £70; not expensive necessarily by Ed standards and yet very poor value indeed for the quality/service.
Highly recommend! Service & food was outstanding! Warm welcome and friendly service which continued throughout!
Casual and slightly understated but really good quality. Nice seafood restaurant, interesting sharing plates menu. One of my top choices for a meal out in Edinburgh.
The restaurant is lively, the food excellent. Will definitely go again.
It was very deliciou meals. The atmosphere was great and staff very kindly.
We came here for our anniversary. Had the hot seafood platter and it was amazing! Beautiful little restaurant and the staff there are fantastic. Will be back for more delicious seafood!
We love Seafood and after a quick search on recommended Seafood Restaurants in Edinburgh we booked the White Horse. We had a starter of 6 Oysters and a Hot Platter. It was not cheap but the quality of the food and the service justified the price in spades. Everything well presented and cooked.
We came here for lunch not knowing what to expect and were pleasantly surprised. The seafood offerings were wonderful and the prices were very reasonable for the quality and quantity of food. Service was excellent.
First visit and we loved the place. Food was excellent and we are keen to go back. Appears to be an issue with the wine list with friends telling me that the wine I chose and was unavailable was unavailable for them a few weeks ago. Get the list updated!
Good luck to all concerned as you've got something good to build on.
Amazing flavours and friendly attentive service.
Seafood was fresh and deserts a perfect finish.
Amazing food, imaginative and creative. Couldn't ask for more. Butter kimchi grilled oysters were to die for. And the grilled octopus - seems to have managed to get crispy caramelised on the outside and soft and succulent inside, simply amazing! Would rate within top 3 Edinburgh restaurants, even go as far as to say UK. Really enjoyed it.
Awesome seafood, very friendly staff and a lovely atmosphere. Top marks.
Happend upon this place when walking down the mile. The menu looked good so we decided to make reservations. The staff was very attentive but they seemed disorganized. They wanted to please but seemed to be running around to catch up rather then being thoughtful about service. The food was good but the hectic service made it less than enjoyable. Again, the staff wanted to be attentive but they needed more direction.
Very good food but waiter will try to yourself you be careful
Bellissimo posto, raffinato e tranquillo!
Birra Oyster eccezionale!
Delicious! Top notch service, wine and food. Will return.
Excellent service and food. The Monkfish Satay is out of this world!
Great restaurant with fantastic food. Would highly recommend with every platter top quality and very tasty from the various oysters to the monkfish in satay sauce. You can't fail to be impressed by the quality and flavour of the various platters. Tempura squid witu the wasabi mayonaise was a personal favourite.
Fantastic experience. Food was great and staff was extremely friendly. I definitely recommend this restaurant.
The only complaint would be it was overly noisy but the food was excellent.
Lovely experience. Sharing plates so no big plates loaded with food. Nice staff serving. Only small gripe is that the table for two was a bit cramped.
Crab was disappointing
One of the best meals I've had in Edinburgh, thanks so much. Highly recommend!
Amazing seafood platter, more than enough for 2 greedy seafood addicts!
The food was excellent, but we were largely neglected by our waitperson.
Had lunch here whilst attending Edinburgh fringe, it was very quiet however I would guess its more of an evening restaurant, so there was no atmosphere . The staff were charming and the fish delicious. So yes I would recommend it.
Amazing Amazing Amazing
