Best seafood in Edinburgh. Great little place with unique first class food!
Had a fab spot by the window so ate delicious food and people watched all evening. The service was impeccable and we had a lovely evening, will return again!
Lovely service, delicious food. Highlights- fresh oysters, crab skinny fries.
Everything was just great from when you step into the doors to when you leave.
Excellent all round
Although we had to leave at 10 pm since we had an under 18 but manager was very nice and helpful
Food was great
It’s always excellent. Just the right balance of informal, casual but high quality that makes the evening perfect. The plates are terrific and ordering according to how hungry or full you are, as you go along, is great. Terrific wines too and the staff are super friendly and helpful. I’ve been a few times and The White Horse remains top of my list of go-to places in the city and everyone I’ve recommended it to has loved it.
Amazing food! Lovely atmosphere and the staff were amazing! X
If you have not been, then this is a must. if you have been then like my wife and I i'm sure you will be back. We can't fault the White Horse Oyster & Seafood Bar...…....a total 5 star experience
Another lovely lunch at WH&O, favourite restaurant of the moment in Edinburgh seafood is delicious. Good ambiance and good service. Sit back a nice wine in hand and enjoy the food.
First time here but certainly wont be our last. Delicious seafood, lovely staff and buzzing ambience especially as it was a rugby international tournament day. Recommend a visit...
Only a little point but the ahe acoustics and background music meant that it was difficult for them to hear the the whole table. However, they loved the food and will be back and we will also be returning shortly.
Chat grilled sourdough bread to die for; grilled octopus absolutely stunning. Crab scotch egg was ok. Chilli Broccolini and kos salad both fabulous. Very fine selection of white wines. Apple tart with caramel sauce and salted caramel ice cream superb. Service good. Fairly pricey - £150 for 2 on a week night. But overall worth it.
Fourth time I’ve been here and the food has remained amazing, if not better. Really relaxed setup, excellent customer service and reasonable prices. Highly recommend any of the oysters; the satay monkfish; and the chargrilled octopus. The happy hour with the oysters is a very good deal.
We really enjoyed our experience. The food was amazing and the staff were extremely friendly and attentive. We’ll definitely be back.
Great food, good provenance. Wine selection a little underwhelming. Waiting staff were excellent, so very attentive. In terms of service, this was by far the very best I’ve experienced in Edinburgh.
Delicious food, beautifully presented. Enjoyed all the dishes we tried - in particular the crab scotch egg, tuna and sea bass which were outstanding. The wine selection was excellent and the chocolate mousse divine. The service was fast, friendly and efficient. Can thoroughly recommend.
Lovely food, great service. Shame when we were asked if we wanted water at the table we were given revolting tap water! Also mark up on wine was ridiculous! £80 for a bottle of Moët and £40 for a mediocre bottle of Sauvignon Blanc!
A business colleague and I had amazing food - it’s the first time I’ve been to the restaurant @ lunchtime and it was really quite empty - so while this contributed to a lack of a buzz, it didn’t detract from the amazing food - maybe the lesson here is to do a lunchtime offer?
Beautiful food, fantastic service and perfect ambience. Perfect place to meet a friend for dinner and a drink.
Great looking restaurant . Very dark and atmospheric, just like an Old Town eatery should be .
Friendly , helpful staff , that explained the menu and the non traditional aspect of ordering.
The food was outstanding , with the hassle back potatoes and crab straw fries being a particular hit .
The lobster , crab , monkfish and prawns were all cooked to perfection.
We had 4 dishes , 2 sides , 2 desserts , a bottle of wine and 2 cocktails for £127 which we saw as good value for money .
One more thing , they provide you with enough crackers for your cheese , which I’m fairly sure , is a first .
Fantastic food and lovely at staff, well worth a visit
Very, very good food but the service here makes your visit all the more memorable. Lovely ambience in the restaurant, sophisticated dining but not stuffy or overly “posh”. Try the Loch Fyne oysters. A must for any seafood lover in Edinburgh
We had an excellent meal for a really great price, staff were friendly and knowledgeable and on whole the restaurant is warm and welcoming. We will definitely return next time we are in Edinburgh.
The food was amazing. It was Fresh, and the menu was great. I Will definitely be recommending your restaurant to family & friends when I get home.I will also be writing a review on trip advisor.
Fantastic food! Excellent service. Highly recommend!
Fantastic meal, outstanding value and excellent service
Went for my birthday lunch with mu daughter. One of the best lunches I have ever had great food, service and ambience. Will be back with my family for dinner. Also the Japanese stock was so tender and a welcome addition on the menu to balance all the variety of fish.
Great food and service.
Everytime I visit this place I cannot fault it. The produce used is top quality. The flavours / combinations are tasty. If fo nothing else just come for the oysters and champagne. Very intimate place to dine and worth the train from Glasgow and walk up ...come on Glasgow learn from this place its simple but sooooo good.
Great food served in an great little place. Our second Hogmanay visit was just as good as the last! Well done WH&O staff!
Our reservation was made for 17:45. When we arrived the supervisor told us the table was ours until 19:15, which my partner and I were absolutely fine with. The meal was stunning (we recommend the full platter). Unfortunately the only thing that let the experience down was how quickly we were moved from our table once we’d finished eating. We were told by another member of staff at 18:40 that the table was needed for another booking - when we explained that we were told a different time the team were adamant we needed to move. In the meantime we had ordered drinks to finish our meal, which were left at the bar for us to try and find amongst a large crowd of people. We noticed that other diners had been at their tables for a longer time and hadn’t been moved in. We appreciate that New Year’s Eve is a busy night, but my partner and I had saved a lot of money to have this experience - we spent the best part of £150 at the White Horse - so it would have been nice to be able to finish our meal with a drink at the table before we left. Instead we had to rush our drinks at a crowded bar where we were pushed and shoved.
Fantastic food, friendly staff and reasonable prices. We would definately go back!
Excelente noche del 30 de diciembre..la pasamos hermoso y muy rico y buenísimo todo...
I came to the white horse about 2 years ago, and had a great experience. Unfortuantely this time round, was very disappointing. I ordered the monkfish with peanut satay as I thoroughly enjoyed it the first time I came. However it was nowhere near as good, instead of 3 skewers it has been reduced to 2 and so a lot smaller portion size, the satay sauce also, was very spicy..which is shouldnt of been and just didnt taste anywhere near as good. The krab fries also were a big disappointment, they have been changed from normal fries to 'straw' fries and so they were more like crisps, also the dollop of krab meat was tiny. I then ordered a cocktail which turned out to be 75ml, the whole thing! Apparently they didnt do the cocktails they used to and all were changed to being this size. Which for £7/8/9 I thought was ridiculous. Overall service and atmosphere was fine. But food/drink was a massive let down and I wont be returning.
Amazing fish and seafood in a lovely relaxed restaurant. Excellent service and knowledge of the food and wine. One of my favourite places to go for oyster happy hour!
Excellent food and service. Will definitely be returning!
We thoroughly enjoyed our first experience in this restaurant. Staff were knowledgeable of the food and explained how the menu worked. Ambience was perfect and food out of this world!
Nice seafood bar. Small plates were all delicious. The fresh natural oysters were especially nice. The beautiful and tasting dessert also worth a try.
Restaurant too cold and service does not meet the standards for dining on such value restaurant.Food is ok but not worth the value. Dining on an expensive restaurant the atmosphere is considered. Me and my partner had the filling that we had to feel the cold as the fisherman's did while fishing our food.
