Superb Sunday lunch which was amazing value for money. Staff were friendly and efficient, just a little more knowledge needed which will come with time. It is great to have The White Lion back open after such a long time, we can’t wait to return!

Very nice evening the food was lovely the man who served our table was excellent. The only down side to the lovely pub is the manager, who is arrogant and never makes you feel welcome such a shame as he spoils what would be a fabulous place

Overall good service friendly but attention to detail needed no soup spoon, forgot the water, didn’t ask if we wanted more drinks. Lovely renovation food good but more bistro than pub food so more of an event meal than a spur of the moment outing.

We had an early evening booking on a Saturday and the pub appeared busy, with a full car park and plenty of people drinking in the outside area. We were taken to our table and within 10 minutes we had drinks and our food orders had been taken by one of the waitresses. We had previously visited the pub just for drinks and were aware that the Menu choice wasn’t extensive, but this wasn’t a problem. Our meals were served very promptly, one Beef featherblade and one battered Haddock, and were both excellent. The food was both beautifully presented and hot; the only comment we would make is that the portion of Pea Purée with the Haddock could do with being slightly bigger. We subsequently ordered the Sticky Ginger cake dessert, on the recommendation of our waitress, and it was a perfect choice. Our overall experience was excellent. The food and drinks were lovely, the service was friendly and attentive without being overbearing, and the venue itself has been beautifully renovated. Prices are maybe a little higher than other places, particularly some of the starters & desserts, but nothing that would deter us from visiting again. We will definitely be back.

I really enjoyed my meal of feather blade beef & portion size was good. However, my husbands smoked duck salad was more like a starter portion and if it was for the side of chips he’d have gone home hungry. But otherwise we enjoyed our evening. The ginger sponge was excellent! 😊

This is not typical "pub grub". The food is of a high class restaurant quality. The building has been restored to a wonderful high quality standard with no corners cut. I would definitely recommend to anyone looking for a special occasion night out. You will not be disappointed.

We had some excellent food in our meals. The smoked trout starter was a delightful blend of textures and tastes. The smoked duck salad was again full of flavour, very tender and complimented by the new potatoes as a side. Others had the featherblade of beef, a generous portion and beautifully cooked. Finished off with chocolate tortes and fresh strawberry and basil sundaes, we could not fault the food in any way. The service was excellent, Neil was attentive, chatty and knowledgeable about the food and drinks. Well done for a really enjoyable meal.

We really enjoyed our meals at the White Lion. Still a limited menu choice as it is early days yet but we enjoyed the freshly cooked food. I had fish & chips which was huge. It came with peas, tartare and curry sauce in small dishes. My husband had the cheese & caramelised onion pie and he said it was delicious - I will have that next time! The desserts were amazing. I had the ginger pudding with ice cream and it had a really intriguing crunch to it. My husband had the strawberries with basil (yes, basil) which he polished off quickly. We were served by Ellie who was very attentive and nothing at all was too much trouble for her. We were very happy to see the pub so busy and there was a great atmosphere downstairs when we arrived. We sat upstairs and it was quieter than downstairs which was pretty full even before 7pm on a Friday evening. We wish the pub all the very best - the renovation is superb and all done to a very high standard. The car park is discreetly well lit and the gardens are lovely and in no time at all will start to mature. We look forward to sitting in the beer garden as summer progresses as well as joining the quiz night very soon. Thanks Team White Lion!

Staff were still learning it seemed as it took us awhile to order our drinks in fact we’d ordered our food before our drinks order was taken but there lies the big problem saying the Menu was limited was an understatement to be honest it was shocking really, no Steak or Pie or Burger choices and only Fish Patties not Fish and Chips in fact there were 3 starters about 6 mains at the most and about 4 dessert’s. There were 6 in our party and none of us were overly impressed with the whole dining experience, we had expected so much with it been new but were severely disappointed, doubt we’ll be going back.

Having dined here before, had the a la carte menu and thoroughly enjoyed it we had great expectations when booking for a Sunday roast. Unfortunately we were very disappointed on this occasion . We were booked in for 5pm. We were told the beef was sold, out-fair enough, so ordered x2 lamb roasts. When we asked for mint sauce we were told that had all gone too. Whilst the meat was nicely cooked and tender both meat and veg were lukewarm. The Yorkshire pudding was not eaten as very hard and inedible. We like our veg al dente but the cauliflower(cheese sauce seemed to be absent) and broccoli were very undercooked. I did tell a member of staff on paying that we were underwhelmed by the meal, explaining the above. I thought he’d apologise and let the kitchen know but he just shrugged his shoulders. On our previous visit the food was faultless as was the service( waitress Ella was so polite and an asset to you) . However on this occasion both the food and service was poor (waitress really didn’t seem to want to be there). I do hope the management take this on board to ensure there is no inconsistency with service/ food quality in the future.

The White Lion is tastefully decorated and the ambience is, in general, very pleasant. This evening, however, we were blessed with two screaming children on the table adjacent so the hoped for quiet chat over dinner wasn’t on the cards. To some extent this was a situation of our own making as we had elected to forego our reservation for a table on the first floor, which has more of restaurant format, in preference to being seated on the ground floor earlier than our 8.30 reservation. In this regard the staff were very helpful and very attentive in trying to accommodate us and the service was excellent. We have been to the pub for drinks several times previous, which had always been enjoyable, but hadn’t eaten there before. Overall the food was pleasant but uninspiring and over priced for what it was. Cooked well but not really meriting the price tag. Overall, great pub. Finished to a high standard. Excellent service. Well cooked and presented food but over-priced.

Fantastic food of the highest quality, superb presentation and the only slight criticism is that on certain food choices ie ‘pork rib’ is that you have to be prepared to order a ‘side’ ie chips/veg as do not come as one. Fairly small dish sizes but nether the less it does not put me off coming again in the future! It just means enjoying more than one dish! Great atmosphere, service was faultless and loved the interior whilst keeping in traditional elements that compliment the building/ restaurant. Look forward to returning again!

Lovely Sunday roast, meat very tender and vegetables nicely cooked. Menu stated mashed potato but unfortunately not presented on the plate. I’m gluten free and was very happy with the meal, could I point out that sauces and Yorkshire puddings can be made with cornflour, you can’t taste the difference, this would mean the items would not have to be excluded for gluten free clients. Thanks.

Buzzing atmosphere when we arrived helpful bar staff took our drinks orders and quickly guided us to our table. The menu is limited but impressive. The drinks menu could be improved with addition of some well chosen wines. The starters we had were the soup and mussels both of which were excellent. I had the haddock and chips with curried mayonnaise mushy peas and tartere sauce. The haddock was beautiful as were the triple cooked chips. The chicken and mushroom pie got a big thumbs up as well, being as it was a pie in the traditional sense. The artichoke and barley risotto was beautifully cooked but could of benefited from more of pickled artichoke garnish. The sweets were excellent and the pannacotta with sharp sorbet was slightly different but delicious. The ginger cake and maple ice-cream was a big hit. Overall a very pleasant evening in a beautifully refurbished country pub. Friendly staff. Really admire the ethos of local people getting together to open a new business in these uncertain times, good luck with this new venture.

Lunch time menu very limited in choice , even though we were offered a choice from the evening menu. Would like to see a few more everyday meals on the lunch menu and a choice of sandwiches .
